I can do pretty well on Rookie difficulty, and have gotten the "Is this too easy for you" message a couple of times, but when I bumped the diff. up to Pro I get my butt handed to me every game, no matter how lopsided the match-up is in my favor. I've tried all three controller layouts, adjusting the speed, pass aim assist, etc. Nothing helps. Very frustrating, since I've been playing hockey games since EA NHL 93 on the Sega.

Any tips?

Lots of one-timers on offense.

On Defense concentrate on the passing lanes more then the puck carrier.

Play your position: for example don't bring the left winger across to the right side. Don't bring up your D on offense.

Learn to use L2 button to block passes and shots (turn auto puck grab off).

Pass to your players using the flip-pass in front of the net so it doesn't get intercepted as much.

Don't just shoot on offense, actually try to set up scoring chances.

Let the cpu help you, don't overuse the a button to change player nearest to the puck, cause each time you do that the cpu has to adjust position and it creates hole for the opposite team, and most of the time its too late the puck is gone so.....cpu is quite good on defense.....there you go...

It may seem backwards, but keeping the game speed at default is probably the easiest way to play, otherwise the AI Defense is just killer and you can only get a few shots off, and many times the puck will get intercepted.

Typical things I try to do; watch where the forewards are playing on defense, if the your defensemen are open for a pass, try giving it to them and then down to one of your forewards for a one timer. Also, take the puck around the back of the net with a winger, and try to set up a two pass one timer to get the goalie moving around a lot.

I have to say that I'm in need of some help too. It seems like I can't play offense well at all. Does speed boosting reduce puck control? I'm almost always trying to close the scoring gap during games and frankly its frustrating. Also, when I play D my players always seem to get in my goalie's way, or don't play aggressive enough to make much of a difference. Any more tips?

Indeed.

I ran an experimental game just to see how I would do on different settings against the same team, and here's how it turned out:

Edmonton vs. Vancouver (me playing Edmonton)

1st period on Rookie

Shots: 18 (me) 0 (CPU)
Score: 1-0

2nd period on Pro

Shots: 25 (me) 2 (CPU)
Score: 2-0

WTF

3rd period (still Pro)

Shots: 28 (me) 18 (CPU)
Score: 2-1 (because I'm a tard who should never EVER try to have the goalie pass the puck)

WTF I still won. LIES.
