Question on Association

This will be my first year playing the 2k series on 360, and I was wondering if you have an association can you invite an online player to play that game with you? It seems like it should be possible, but I can't find info about this anywhere.

Any answers or links would be appreciated.

you couldnt in 2k8 I doubt it will happen in 2k9
