DOOMS DAY DEFENSE League Rejuvenated!

How do you rate your offense between 1-10? Is that rating the same if you had no skilled position players in the Gold or Silver Tiers? It is easy to say you have a great offense when you have a Gold and Silver offense but a true APF 2K8 offensive guru would not need a Gold and Silver offense. Can you take a Bronze offense and still move the ball? Test your Offensive skills in this defensive league. In this league you will have to spend your Gold & Silver picks on defense. If you would like to join a league that makes you think when you play offense than post below that you want in and your team you will use. You can use any player in the game or off my CAP legend list to create your team set up.

Human and Computer controlled players Coverage, Pursuit, and Tackling will all be at 90 on the slider scale as well as Fumbles and Interceptions at 100.

Here are the rules I have updated today....

League Rules updated 8-7-08

Game play:

1: Sportsmanship is a must not an option in my leagues. If your up big than run the ball and don't run the score up at all.

2: Replays are limited to 3 a half unless your opponent doesn't mind.

3: If you lose to some shady gameplay please take a day to reflect on it when your not so upset before you call someone out or send me a complaint. I will not consider your issue unless a day has passed.


Substitutions:

O-Line are interchangeable

D-Line are Interchangeable

LB are Interchangeable and LB's with a Pass Rush Attribute like Sack Master or Pass Rush can play DE in Nickle and Dime Packages.

CB, FS, & SS are all interchangeble and can play any secondary position.

RB's & FB's are interchangeable

TE's can only play at TE & WR

WR's can only play as a WR

There no 2 way players allowed at all so don't ask.


4th Down attempts:

1: 4th down and 1 or less can be attempted any where and at anytime during the game no matter the situation.

2: 4th down in between the 30 & 40 or your opponents side of the field is the gray area of the field where it is too short for a punt and too long for a FG attempt. In this situation you can go for it no matter how far the distance for a 1st down is.

3: 4th down no matter what the down and distance is when your down 21 points or more.

Blitzing:

1: 5-2 Middle LB Blitz is legal since it can be countered. Shotgun Formation, Flat to RB, Slant pass, Max Protect with RB's staying in to block, PA roll outs can counter this blitz well.

2: Secondary players blitzing can be done as much as you want as long as you are not manually controlling them at anytime during the blitz.

3: LB's can be used manually to blitz but can not move closer to line of scrimmage than they are already automatically set at.

Defensive Lineman:

1: You can use any D-Lineman but you can not use the DE to run a stunt and come in untouched at all. This is a known glitch in the game.

2: You can not move a D-Lineman manually at all whether your moving him off the line or back and into coverage before the snap of the ball.

3: D-Lineman special moves like Swim, Rip, Club, Bull Rush, and Spin are allowed and are encouraged for you to use since it is part of the game.

Motion Running:

1: You can use motion running as long as the guy you motion clears the end of the line whether it is the Tackle or TE.

2: You can not hike the ball unless your guy has cleared the end of the last person on your O-Line.

Bump Man 2 Man defense:

1: You can play this as much as you want.

2: To counter Bump man you are allowed to put your WR in motion and can snap the ball only when your WR is set 100% to get off the bump like a real NFL team would do. You do not have to wait for the CB to be set but you must allow the CB to at least get in front of the WR.

3: You can also motion your WR off the line of scrimmage to get him a free release off the line by him backing off of the LOS.

Screen passes:

1: You can not run one way and throw back the other way on a screen pass because the camera will be cut off to the point where you can not see the RB to manually cover him.

2: You are allowed 3 screen passes a half so use them wisely.

WR routes that are questionable to many players:

1: Out Routes, Hot Routed fade pattern, Middle post, Double move post should all be used in moderation. I will not ban these routes because there are ways to defend everyone of them even if you like it or not. If the out route and the hot route fade pattern is all your opponent has in his offensive arsenal than you should be able to defend it pretty easy. If you need help learning how to defend these plays or plays that work against them than let me know. Here are a few.

Defending the out route:

1: Shade your CB's to the out side in man 2 man.
2: Cover 2 Hard for short out routes with your CB's shaded to the outside.
3: Cover 2 soft for the deeper out routes with your CB's shaded to the outside.
4: Manually jumping the route and defending it.

Defending the hot route fade:

1: Man coverage on your strong side CB
2: Hot zone your Safety to a low zone.
3: Manually jumping the route and defending it.

Defending the Middle post:

1: Hot zone your safety to cover the middle of the field.
2: Hot zone your ILB to cover the deep middle.
3: Manually jumping the route and defending it.

Defending the Double Move route:

1: Cover 12
2: Manually jumping the route and defending it.

All of these issues are not as huge if you have a pass rush.

Banned plays:

1: Cadence

2: Bunny Hopping

3: Switching defenders in a Flickering kind of way as fast as you can to confuse blockers.

4: Kickoffs can not be kicked off to the side of the field to stop return man from getting to the ball at all. If you don't want him to return it than kick it out of bounds without it hitting the ground. You must kick it down the middle, slightly to the left or right.

5: Punting can not be punted short for the purpose of a muffed punt because you can not take control of your player to stop him from going for the punt.

1: You can not quit for any reason at all.

2: If there is an issue with game play contact an admin a day after your game has passed.

3: No negative feedback can be given at anytime.

6 Legends have to be on defense and unless you are going to use a kicker they all must be Gold & Silver with the last 1-2 Bronze.

I saw the error I had about the TE and fixed it.

The issue with the Gold or Silver QB's is that the difference between a Bronze - Gold is dramatic. You are the first one to have a concern about it. I will put a poll up about it though.

This is a NFL game not a CFL game. Nothing against him but if he was so good he wouldnt have been a back up to mediocre QB's in the NFL.
But its the same reasoning why Steve Young over Montana, Tom Brady over Drew Bledsoe, Aaron Rogers over Bret Farve... Flutie was in his late 30's early 40's and teams where thinking about ther future instead of whats best for them now. Flutie often always had to come in and save the day which he did numerous times for Bills and Chargers

But its the same reasoning why Steve Young over Montana, Tom Brady over Drew Bledsoe, Aaron Rogers over Bret Farve... Flutie was in his late 30's early 40's and teams where thinking about ther future instead of whats best for them now. He might be retired. I didnt hear about it is all I was saying and I dont count what a player did in a CFL, Arena League, or Europe leagues because they were not playing against the highest level in world so there for there numbers can easy be a lot worse if they did. If a player like Flutie was not good enough to play as a 3rd string QB in the NFL early in his career than there is no way with him being a solid backup later in his career for me to make him a Gold. That is a slap in the face to Montana, Young, Marino and the others.

I agree to your Bronze Flutie exactly as you posted and if you would like to use him you can but don't stop playing once you find out a CAP Bronze QB that doesn't have Rocket arm will suck for you. I remember you hating Stabler in your streaming videos and I can only imagine what it will be like with Flutie lol.

Those are the 3 players that everyone seems to feel play higher than a Bronze on every down. I only put Clark and Ricky Sanders on my team because they have clutch other than that they would not be on my team. In the interest of Clark I will remove him off my team but I wont make anyone else do this.

Some of the people had a Silver and Gold QB's but after the vote on 2kforums we went with Bronze QB's only so they havent made the change yet but they will.

No Gold or Silver offense allowed at all including O-Lineman even though I like the idea it would be easy to call screens to Floyd Little with Legends leading the way. If you want O-Line you can always select them from the Bronze Tier.

I see no problem with you haveing a Gold - Bronze level Kicker if you wanted but you still need to have at least 6 Legends on defense.

This in the past has been a very fun and rewarding league and if your looking for that I suggest you give it a chance and join.

It is easy to say you have a great offense when you have a Gold and Silver offense but a true APF 2K8 offensive guru would not need a Gold and Silver offense. Can you take a Bronze offense and still move the ball? Test your Offensive skills in this defensive league. In this league you will have to spend your Gold & Silver picks on defense. If you would like to join a league that makes you think when you play offense than post below that you want in and your team you will use. You can use any player in the game or off my CAP legend list to create your team set up.

hitman I changed ronnie lott to mel blount simply cuz zohan has him and I imagine juice might pick him as well. N then I changed my scheme to a nickel package by taking out carl banks and placing Cory Chavous in instead. Also my first team was built around stabler being on offense as a silver pick

You cant have Montana. Only a bronze offense is allowed so you need to make a couple changes if you still want in. All Gold and Silver must be Defense with at least 1 more player on bronze defense.

First off I dont know if you were half asleep or drunk but both players were bronze and matched up identically to a bronze cap from your list. I have never used a gold TE or HB and dont have any teams created with gold TE's or HB's.

I used this team against several people from this league who Im sure also saw post 38 since they asked me to scrimmage them. Im sure they would have noticed if my TE and HB were gold.

Gunther you trying to work magic to see who told me? LOL. I never told you who told me you had gold players, I only told you 2 members let me know you joined and your team was a CAP Browns team. Jamal Lewis and Kellen Winslow was on that team. I have found out that it seems to be an issue with the 2k system I think showing some owners teams that didnt join. Kind of like the issue with looking at teams, You hardly will ever get the team of the guy who you clicked on to check there team.

It's much funner when you have a little bit of a rivalry going with the person you are playing....There's a few rivalries I have on here....And I consider you to be one of them because I love the little bit of a temper you have when you lose. This league along with NFLP3 and CFL will be my main 3 leagues. DLx depends on my time commitments.

Here are the rules I have updated today....

League Rules updated 8-7-08

Game play:

1: Sportsmanship is a must not an option in my leagues. If your up big than run the ball and don't run the score up at all.

2: Replays are limited to 3 a half unless your opponent doesn't mind.

3: If you lose to some shady gameplay please take a day to reflect on it when your not so upset before you call someone out or send me a complaint. I will not consider your issue unless a day has passed.


Substitutions:

O-Line are interchangeable

D-Line are Interchangeable

LB are Interchangeable and LB's with a Pass Rush Attribute like Sack Master or Pass Rush can play DE in Nickle and Dime Packages.

CB, FS, & SS are all interchangeble and can play any secondary position.

RB's & FB's are interchangeable

TE's can only play at TE & WR

WR's can only play as a WR

There no 2 way players allowed at all so don't ask.


4th Down attempts:

1: 4th down and 1 or less can be attempted any where and at anytime during the game no matter the situation.

2: 4th down in between the 30 & 40 or your opponents side of the field is the gray area of the field where it is too short for a punt and too long for a FG attempt. In this situation you can go for it no matter how far the distance for a 1st down is.

3: 4th down no matter what the down and distance is when your down 21 points or more.

Blitzing:

1: 5-2 Middle LB Blitz is legal since it can be countered. Shotgun Formation, Flat to RB, Slant pass, Max Protect with RB's staying in to block, PA roll outs can counter this blitz well.

2: Secondary players blitzing can be done as much as you want as long as you are not manually controlling them at anytime during the blitz.

3: LB's can be used manually to blitz but can not move closer to line of scrimmage than they are already automatically set at.

Defensive Lineman:

1: You can use any D-Lineman but you can not use the DE to run a stunt and come in untouched at all. This is a known glitch in the game.

2: You can not move a D-Lineman manually at all whether your moving him off the line or back and into coverage before the snap of the ball.

3: D-Lineman special moves like Swim, Rip, Club, Bull Rush, and Spin are allowed and are encouraged for you to use since it is part of the game.

Motion Running:

1: You can use motion running as long as the guy you motion clears the end of the line whether it is the Tackle or TE.

2: You can not hike the ball unless your guy has cleared the end of the last person on your O-Line.

Bump Man 2 Man defense:

1: You can play this as much as you want.

2: To counter Bump man you are allowed to put your WR in motion and can snap the ball only when your WR is set 100% to get off the bump like a real NFL team would do. You do not have to wait for the CB to be set but you must allow the CB to at least get in front of the WR.

3: You can also motion your WR off the line of scrimmage to get him a free release off the line by him backing off of the LOS.

Screen passes:

1: You can not run one way and throw back the other way on a screen pass because the camera will be cut off to the point where you can not see the RB to manually cover him.

2: You are allowed 3 screen passes a half so use them wisely.

WR routes that are questionable to many players:

1: Out Routes, Hot Routed fade pattern, Middle post, Double move post should all be used in moderation. I will not ban these routes because there are ways to defend everyone of them even if you like it or not. If the out route and the hot route fade pattern is all your opponent has in his offensive arsenal than you should be able to defend it pretty easy. If you need help learning how to defend these plays or plays that work against them than let me know. Here are a few.

Defending the out route:

1: Shade your CB's to the out side in man 2 man.
2: Cover 2 Hard for short out routes with your CB's shaded to the outside.
3: Cover 2 soft for the deeper out routes with your CB's shaded to the outside.
4: Manually jumping the route and defending it.

Defending the hot route fade:

1: Man coverage on your strong side CB
2: Hot zone your Safety to a low zone.
3: Manually jumping the route and defending it.

Defending the Middle post:

1: Hot zone your safety to cover the middle of the field.
2: Hot zone your ILB to cover the deep middle.
3: Manually jumping the route and defending it.

Defending the Double Move route:

1: Cover 12
2: Manually jumping the route and defending it.

All of these issues are not as huge if you have a pass rush.

Banned plays:

1: Cadence

2: Bunny Hopping

3: Switching defenders in a Flickering kind of way as fast as you can to confuse blockers.

4: Kickoffs can not be kicked off to the side of the field to stop return man from getting to the ball at all. If you don't want him to return it than kick it out of bounds without it hitting the ground. You must kick it down the middle, slightly to the left or right.

5: Punting can not be punted short for the purpose of a muffed punt because you can not take control of your player to stop him from going for the punt.

1: You can not quit for any reason at all.

2: If there is an issue with game play contact an admin a day after your game has passed.

3: No negative feedback can be given at anytime.

Make sure everyone reads these updated rules. If there is an issue with a rule being broken during your game than pause your game and let your opponent know and if that didnt work notify me.

No because once you do this your TE or Slot WR will move forward on the LOS. If you have no TE or WR on that side of the field than you have to motion a guy to the side you want to free up someone so he can move up to the LOS. In any case it wont even allow you to highlight your WR unless there is someone there who can move up so the Tackle is covered.

6 games in and I really love this league.

I'm using plays in the playbook I have never considered calling, simply because I needed to find new ways to move the dang ball. Then when I go back and play with a team that haas better firepower, it makes it all the more dangerous.

Took about 4 games for my dang DLs to wake up, the past 2 games, Reggie White, Jermome Brown, and Clyde Simmons have been wrecking some serious havoc.

The next DDD I am going to have some OLs on my team to block some of these beasts out there.:p

DDD is hands down the funnest league to play....

Some of the craziest stuff I've seen is my 4 generic DLineman all being in the top 10-15 for sacks, not to mention, one of them being the #1 guy right now, over people like Donavan and Bethea

My D-Line is great and the only person able to stay away from them was Freak because he was moving around in the pocket. You could tell he was looking at the D-Line and than making his passes LOL. Freak did great with his pocket presence in my game.

Next season I will allow any tier of O-Lineman but you will still have to have 6 on defense so if you do this you will only have 4 Bronze on offense. Gives you an incentive to use the least used guys in this game, I mean even kickers and punters get used more than O-Line.

Glad everyone is having fun and it will continue as long as there are at least 8 people interested.

Yeah my D-Line has been picing up steam as well.

Clyde Simmons has 5 sacks, Reggie White has 4, and Jerome Brown has 5, through 6 games. I have a generic LB with 2 sacks, plus a generic Dt has 1.

Fun times.

In game adjustments that are not in your manual:

1. Defensive Hot Routing for secondary personal only - You hold down the " RB " button and press your right ananlog stick in the direction you want your defender to now cover in a zone. Example..... If you have someone running a post pattern with the TE all game long and your safties are not covering it correctly than you might want to hot route your safety to the middle zone instead of there normal deep zone. If I want my SS to cover in the middle I would hit the " RB " button, press " Y " button, and flick my right analog stick left to cover the middle zone instead of his normal deep zone.

2. Defensive Hot Routing for LB's and DE - Same thing as above but you use the " LB " button.

3. If you want to hot route a blitz - Do the same things as above but use your D pad to press in the direction you want them to blitz. If you press back on your D pad they will do a delayed blitz.

4. Secondary movements - If you hold down your " RB " button you could shade your secondary in/out/press/ or back up by using your right ananlog stick while holding down the " RB " button.

5. Linebacker movements - Same as #4 but you use the " LB " Button.

6. Flipping the direction of a play is going without flipping the whole formation - Press the " Y " button than click your right ananlog stick like a button. If you had a run going right it will now go left without any hint to the defense what you just did. Same thing with your passing routes.

7. Flipping your play to get WR routes that you cant hot route - Say you want to use a up and out pattern or a double post move for your WR on the right instead of the WR on the left. You do it by flipping the play by using the " Y " button and pressing the right analog stick like a button. Now the WR that used to have the route you wanted now has a different route. Hot route him any route you want and than hot route your RB any route you want. Now your WR on both sides will have the same route. Deadly if used right. I will break this down in a simpler form since I didnt understand how this worked when I tried it either.

7a. You come out 4 wide with a double post, fade, or up and out route for only 1 of your WR's on the outside. You would like to have this route for both WR on the outside but know it can't be done with normal hot routing.

7b. You press " Y " Button than click your right ananlog stick like a button. Now your WR that had the Double move that was on the right side now has a different route but your WR on the left side now has the Double move.

7c. To get your WR on the right to get his Double post move back with out your WR on the left side not losing it you must do this. Hot route the WR on the right to any route you want ( This will show you the route you just hot routed to ) and than hot route your RB to any route also. As soon as you hot route your RB your WR on the right will now go back to his original route which was the Double post move. If you want you can still hot route your RB a different route or your slot WR's something else also and it will not effect your WR's on the outside. The WR's will still have there Double Post routes. this will work with any route you want.

8. Hot Routing your WR/TE/FB/RB - Flick your right analog stick in the direction you want your player to go and click the button that coordinates with that player.

If you of anymore helpful hints that the manual left out please post them so everyone has the same opportunity to win in this game.

I was able to pull through with a victory after I'l admit it a lucky pass to Rob Moore into triple coverage.

Good game with Trekie as always... just haven't played him enough. Great opponent and great sportsmanship.

Finally won my 1st league and I am really proud of winning DDD. It was a tough league and really gets down to who can do the most with so little on offense.
