View Full Version : Americas Game in APF????

I love NFL Networks show Americas game! IT cronicles the Superbowls teams journey to the big game and the players are the people narrating it. I was wondering why isnt there a league set up with this in mind? I know many players have tried starting a league that consist of the best teams from different eras but never really took off. I am wondering how many would be interested in this league and take it seriously? I will be making this league and yes I will be running 3 leagues but DL9 is the only league that requires much work at all so DDD and Americas Game would be simple to run with the help off some members. This game is all about Legends so lets take it to the next level and put them where they belong, Together with there team mates. Can your 70's Steelers beat the 90's Cowboys? Can your St. Louis Rams of 2000 beat the Patriots of 2000 in a rematch? Stop talking and get in the game!

Here is how this will work. You can use as many Legends the game has to offer for your team and than some CAPs to complete that team. Your team must have went to the Superbowl to be in this league but they didnt have to win it, just be in it. Post your team and go by the league rules on player creation and your good to go. Obviously you will have to figure who will be your Gold - Bronzes so dropping a players tier that is in the game is understandable but if you create a player that is already in this game they must have the height, weight, and you have to use the attributes the game has listed for that player. So if you choose John Elway but drop him to Silver you can but you have to use 2 out of the 5 attributes that are listed for him.

Banned attributes for your CAPs

Branching Tackles
Workhorse
Route God
Signal Stealer
Cadence
You can give only 1 type of speed attribute to your player, You can not layer speed on a player.

If you are using a player in this game that has those banned attributes than that is ok. These banned attributes are only applicable when you creat a player.

When you are using CAPs you must make them to there exact specs. This is where I will go to check your CAP player for accuracy on height and weight.

I've very very interested in this one! So I'm calling dibs on the Boys!

Okay, so my question is how would I go about making the early 90's Cowboys? For instance, your data-base has Woodson as a Gold (no complaints there) but how would I incorporate him into a team where there are more deserving Golds (Emmitt, Irvin, Aikman, etc)? I guess my question is how flexible would you be with CAPs, Legends & tier rankings seeing as some teams would practically come pre-made with in-game players.

(EXAMPLE BUILD)

G: Aikman / Irvin (CAP) / Deion (?)
G: Smith

S: Johnston
S: Novacek / Woodson (?)
S: Aikman (CAP) / Irvin (CAP) / Woodson (?) / Deion (?)

When you are talking about a Superbowl team you most likely will have multiple options at Gold and Silver Tier placement. Just move down whoever you want to a lower tier but keep the attributes that are lkisted for them. Like when I made the Bears you see how I moved Walter Payton down to silver and gave him 2 of the attributes he has listed in the game. Other smart moves would be like tjspeaks Ravens moving Sharpe down to Silver since he has only 2 attributes as a gold. I hope this answers your question.

I have a question to everyone. Does it bother you at all that I have my messages in Bold letters? Valdarez edited my post and took out the bold letters and asked me if my Bold button was stuck. If this bothers you let me know because I dont want to offend any of our Forum Members.

Its funny also about it because all my regular messages are not in Bold Text. I only have a Team setup in Bold or a league announcement in Bold. I think someone has more things to worry about than me having Bold text. If this is such a problem maybe you forum moderators should take out that option.

Yes, I just watch the Missing Rings for the 1990 Bills...That team was amazing. They actually was the first team to do the No huddle offense as a regular Offense. They led the league in scoring. Jim Kelly was the first QB allowed to run the offense. That team was great. So sad they could not win atleast one superbowl...I must admit that team is one of the best teams of all time..they are overlooked because they lost the superbowl...I admire the Bills organization

Jim Kelly was the first QB allowed to run the offense.
Not exactly they used to run the offesne al the time before Joe Montana and Walsh made it vogue for the coach to call the plays.

But yeah they wer ea great team. If it was college football they would have been national champs 4 years in a row.

Scooter, you can do something like this:

WR James Lofton
RB Thurman Thomas

WR Andre Reed
QB Jim Kelly (CAP)
DE Bruce Smith (CAP)

WR Steve Tasker
TE Pete Metzelaars
SS Henry Jones (CAP)
CB Nate Odomes (CAP)
OLB Cornelius Bennett (CAP)
OLB Daryl Talley (CAP)

Not sure on abilities, though. This is using all of the possible players in APF, but if you want to mix up tiers or get rid of players like Steve Tasker, go ahead.

You dont need another pass rushing LB? Ok than remove Pepper johnson or Banks and add L.T.. If you don't like how the league is set up and the guidlines that go with the Superbowl Teams than I guess you won't be joining. If you want to create a 91 Giants team without L.T. than do so but it won't be in this league.

Larry Little was a great player for the Dolphins but he wasnt the face of the franchise. Many players are not on these Superbowl teams but everyone one of them have the Face of those Superbowl teams on them.

This is like creating the Patriots and using Matt Cassell and leaving Tom Brady off the team. This isn't a do what you want to do league. There are restrictions and everyone else seems ok with it but you. I should have known better than to invite into a league.

1991 NY Giants are available now.

Ummm the Championship game was called Championship game before it was called Superbowl.

Yes you can use any team within the history of the game of NFL Football that was in the Championship game or Superbowl as we know it now.

1991 NY Giants are available now. u have created seahawks teams without walter jones becuz u wanted more on defense..so count me out

Seattle Seahawks (NFLHITMAN)

DE Patrick Kerney ( Leadership Bonus, Club, Strength Bonus )

If your referring to my first post in this thread of my 2005 Seahawks Superbowl team than you should probably also know that I had Walter Jones and Steve Hutchinson on that team.

I want the player on that team to be the starters or in the case of the older teams to have the player with the most stats.

If you want...

2 CB's pick the 2 with highest stats

2 - 4 LB's the ones with the most stats

In the case of a team like my 2005 Seahawks than if a O-Lineman is considered there best player than he should be on that team. If you don't want a Dolphins team with a Larry Little on it than pick a different team. Not saying you did twosilk because I saw your Dolphins team and you had Little on it.

How could you even think of a Giants team that vegas posted without L.T. honestly????

Nobody said he had to pick that team but if he does than L.T. needs to be on it. Not saying he would have to be his Gold but he does have to be on it.

So I proved you wrong and your going to say this?? LOL

In league play I will have Walter Jones on my team and in non league play who cares. This league was set up to create the Superbowl / Championship teams of yesteryear and go to face 2 face and see who would win. I have never even heard of the players you had listed as your Gold players on that Giants team you posted LOL.

This league is called Americas Game and if you show me one video of 1991 Giants from the Americas Game that does not talk about Lawrence Taylor than you can have him off your team.

He's got a point there, in fact, Hitman has 2-4 players on the o & d-lines for that team which puts him in an uphill battle from the start, so you have to respect someone who's playing the game for the fun of it and not building a team to win.

I want the 93' Cowboys, I wish they weren't so top heavy on offense, but the way the in-Legend players are tiered, I have no choice.

Unless someone takes a real exception to it, I may flip flop Troy Aikman (G) & Michael Irvin (S) in tiers. While both are clearly Gold level players, statistically that year Irvin was much more dominate in every aspect of the game, while Aikman was great but his stats were not out of this world. Irvin was top 3 in almost every important statistical category for a WR, plus he was the leader of those Cowboys teams.

That is fine, You can change players tiers but if you change the tier of a player in the game he has to have the attributes the game gave him. So if you move Troy down to silver you must give 2 of the attributes he has as a gold.

How did u find those attributes for the 85 Bears? Or can you make the team how u want?

I made that teams thread to show how many of that superbowl teams player are in the game incase people were looking at that because they didnt want to create CAPS. You don't have to use those players for the Bears but you must use Starters from that bears team. When I created that Bears team I made Richard Dent my Gold along with Silgletary and dropped Walter Payton down to the Silver tier and gave him Leadership and Finesse & Power. Just to give you an idea of how I did it.

Ogden would be a gold... I wouldn't waste a bronze pick on an Olineman.

The reason I had no problem with Ogden not being on that team was because that Ravens team was not known for a left tackle even as great as he is. That team had one of the best defenses the NFL had ever seen. I would have to say that the offense of the 2000 Ravens was not known except for the load mouth of Shannon Sharpe. They were in there not to make a mistake and let the Defense win the game for them. If I was the 2000 Ravens I would have made the team this way....

G: Ray Ray Lewis ILB ( Leadership Bonus, Run Coverage, Loose Ball Magnet, Coverage Bonus, Closing Speed )
G: Rod Woodson FS
S: Shannon Sharpe TE ( Speed Burner, Route God )
S: Chris McCalister CB ( Ball Hawk, Coverage Bonus )
S: Peter Boulware OLB ( Pass Rush Bonus, Closing Speed )
B: Trent Dilfer QB ( Leadership Bonus or Laser Arm )
B: Jamal Lewis RB ( Finesse & Power )
B: Jamie Sharper OLB ( Run Reader )
B: Duane Starke CB ( Ball Hawk )
B: Qadry Ismail WR ( Speed Burner )

way tjspeaks likes his team would be a little different.....

ok that was my point, ogden was probably their best offensive player, along with ismail and you chose not to use them, so we either build the teams the way we want, or have set guidelines

There are set guidelines and tjspeaks has followed them.

You have to use Starters and you have to make sure the face of that Superbowl team is on that team. If you made the Dolphins without Little that would not have been an issue for me at all. If I was to create the 2005 Seahawks than Steve Hutchinson and Walter Jones IMO would have had to be on it because they were being treated like rock stars in the press and thats why my 2005 Seahawks team that I posted looked like this.

G: Shaun Alexander RB
G: Lofa Tatupu ILB
S: Matt Hasselbeck QB
S: Marcus Trufant CB
S: Darrell Jackson WR
B: Walter Jones T
B: Steve Hutchinson G
B: Mack Strong FB
B: Michael Boulware SS

What's your gamertag? Maybe we can get in a scrimmage today?

I tested mine out and I cannot for the life of me get used to a non-charged QB. Aikman has accuracy & velocity, but the lack of the vibration really throws off my timing immensly. How was he not given Laser Arm when he was considered one of the most efficient QBs in league history?

See I would rather have a QB without Laser Arm because when you do Pump Fakes, Roll Outs, Play Action it will not allow you to charge him so you limit yourself in that aspect especially if you have a Rocket Arm QB.

ElGreazy78
October 8th, 2008, 12:43 PM
Yeah, you got a point. I guess I'm more accustomed to the short dink n dunk passes of a West Coast Offense. Still having that rumble there to physically let you know "get rid of the ball!" is always a nice advantage.

Good point. I gave Brad Johnson laser arm, and I am thinking I should have given him leadership. I rarely charge my throws anyway. It distracts me.

The best ability that you can have for a Bronze CAP QB is Quick Release with Leadership being a close 2nd. I don't like the quick release just because it gets the ball out quick but I like it because it is accurate, and they can throw a long ball ok.

Look for the highlighted parts for any new rules. This is just to everyone can refresh there memory on the rules.......

Here are the rules I have updated today....

League Rules updated 10-9-08

Game play:

1: Sportsmanship is a must not an option in my leagues. If your up big than run the ball and don't run the score up at all.

2: Replays are limited to 3 a half unless your opponent doesn't mind.

3: If you lose to some shady gameplay please take a day to reflect on it when your not so upset before you call someone out or send me a complaint. I will not consider your issue unless a day has passed.

Substitutions:

O-Line are interchangeable

D-Line are Interchangeable

LB are Interchangeable and LB's with a Pass Rush Attribute like Sack Master or Pass Rush can play DE in Nickle and Dime Packages.

CB, FS, & SS are all interchangeble and can play any secondary position.

RB's & FB's are interchangeable.....FB's can play at TE ala Chris Cooley.

TE's can only play at TE & WR

WR's can only play as a WR

There no 2 way players allowed at all so don't ask.

4th Down attempts:

1: 4th down and 1 or less can be attempted any where and at anytime during the game no matter the situation.

2: 4th down in between the 30 & 40 or your opponents side of the field is the gray area of the field where it is too short for a punt and too long for a FG attempt. In this situation you can go for it no matter how far the distance for a 1st down is.

3: 4th down no matter what the down and distance is when your down 21 points or more.

Blitzing:

1: 5-2 Middle LB Blitz is legal since it can be countered. Shotgun Formation, Flat to RB, Slant pass, Max Protect with RB's staying in to block, PA roll outs can counter this blitz well.

2: Secondary players blitzing can be done as much as you want as long as you are not manually controlling them at anytime during the blitz.

3: LB's can be used manually to blitz but can not move closer to line of scrimmage than they are already automatically set at.

Defensive Lineman:

1: You can use any D-Lineman but you can not use the DE to run a stunt and come in untouched at all. This is a known glitch in the game.

2: You can not move a D-Lineman manually at all whether your moving him off the line or back and into coverage before the snap of the ball.

3: D-Lineman special moves like Swim, Rip, Club, Bull Rush, and Spin are allowed and are encouraged for you to use since it is part of the game.

Motion Running:

1: You can use motion running as long as the guy you motion clears the end of the line whether it is the Tackle or TE.

2: You can not hike the ball unless your guy has cleared the end of the last person on your O-Line.

Bump Man 2 Man defense:

1: You can play this as much as you want.

2: To counter Bump man you are allowed to put your WR in motion and can snap the ball only when your WR is set 100% to get off the bump like a real NFL team would do. You do not have to wait for the CB to be set but you must allow the CB to at least get in front of the WR.

3: You can also motion your WR off the line of scrimmage to get him a free release off the line by him backing off of the LOS.

Screen passes:

1: You can not run one way and throw back the other way on a screen pass because the camera will be cut off to the point where you can not see the RB to manually cover him.

2: You are allowed 3 screen passes a half so use them wisely.

WR routes that are questionable to many players:

1: Out Routes, Hot Routed fade pattern, Middle post, Double move post should all be used in moderation. I will not ban these routes because there are ways to defend everyone of them even if you like it or not. If the out route and the hot route fade pattern is all your opponent has in his offensive arsenal than you should be able to defend it pretty easy. If you need help learning how to defend these plays or plays that work against them than let me know. Here are a few.

Defending the out route:

1: Shade your CB's to the out side in man 2 man.
2: Cover 2 Hard for short out routes with your CB's shaded to the outside.
3: Cover 2 soft for the deeper out routes with your CB's shaded to the outside.
4: Manually jumping the route and defending it.

Defending the hot route fade:

1: Man coverage on your strong side CB
2: Hot zone your Safety to a low zone.
3: Manually jumping the route and defending it.

Defending the Middle post:

1: Hot zone your safety to cover the middle of the field.
2: Hot zone your ILB to cover the deep middle.
3: Manually jumping the route and defending it.

Defending the Double Move route:

1: Cover 12
2: Manually jumping the route and defending it.

All of these issues are not as huge if you have a pass rush.

Banned plays or use of certain abilities:

1: Cadence

2: Bunny Hopping

3: Switching defenders in a Flickering kind of way as fast as you can to confuse blockers.

4: Kickoffs can not be kicked off to the side of the field to stop return man from getting to the ball at all. If you don't want him to return it than kick it out of bounds without it hitting the ground. You must kick it down the middle, or between the hashes. If your afraid of a Devin Hester than kick it out of bounds totally without any bounces.

5: Punting can not be punted short for the purpose of a muffed punt because you can not take control of your player to stop him from going for the punt.

6: No Quick Snapping allowed at all.

7: Signal Stealer attribute can not be used in league play at all. This attribute shows every assignment of every player and in real life you don't know what each player is doing. You would know what certain player would do from how they line up but not everything. Signal Stealer IMO is a APF 2K8 veteran of the game knowing what he see's and attacking it not a " B " Button.

League issues

1: You can not quit for any reason at all.

2: If there is an issue with game play contact an admin a day after your game has passed.

3: No negative feedback can be given at anytime.

In game adjustments that are not in your manual:

1. Defensive Hot Routing for secondary personal only - You hold down the " RB " button and press your right ananlog stick in the direction you want your defender to now cover in a zone. Example..... If you have someone running a post pattern with the TE all game long and your safties are not covering it correctly than you might want to hot route your safety to the middle zone instead of there normal deep zone. If I want my SS to cover in the middle I would hit the " RB " button, press " Y " button, and flick my right analog stick left to cover the middle zone instead of his normal deep zone.

2. Defensive Hot Routing for LB's and DE - Same thing as above but you use the " LB " button.

3. If you want to hot route a blitz - Do the same things as above but use your D pad to press in the direction you want them to blitz. If you press back on your D pad they will do a delayed blitz.

4. Secondary movements - If you hold down your " RB " button you could shade your secondary in/out/press/ or back up by using your right ananlog stick while holding down the " RB " button.

5. Linebacker movements - Same as #4 but you use the " LB " Button.

6. Flipping the direction of a play is going without flipping the whole formation - Press the " Y " button than click your right ananlog stick like a button. If you had a run going right it will now go left without any hint to the defense what you just did. Same thing with your passing routes.

7. Flipping your play to get WR routes that you cant hot route - Say you want to use a up and out pattern or a double post move for your WR on the right instead of the WR on the left. You do it by flipping the play by using the " Y " button and pressing the right analog stick like a button. Now the WR that used to have the route you wanted now has a different route. Hot route him any route you want and than hot route your RB any route you want. Now your WR on both sides will have the same route. Deadly if used right. I will break this down in a simpler form since I didnt understand how this worked when I tried it either.

7a. You come out 4 wide with a double post, fade, or up and out route for only 1 of your WR's on the outside. You would like to have this route for both WR on the outside but know it can't be done with normal hot routing.

7b. You press " Y " Button than click your right ananlog stick like a button. Now your WR that had the Double move that was on the right side now has a different route but your WR on the left side now has the Double move.

7c. To get your WR on the right to get his Double post move back with out your WR on the left side not losing it you must do this. Hot route the WR on the right to any route you want ( This will show you the route you just hot routed to ) and than hot route your RB to any route also. As soon as you hot route your RB your WR on the right will now go back to his original route which was the Double post move. If you want you can still hot route your RB a different route or your slot WR's something else also and it will not effect your WR's on the outside. The WR's will still have there Double Post routes. this will work with any route you want.

8. Hot Routing your WR/TE/FB/RB - Flick your right analog stick in the direction you want your player to go and click the button that coordinates with that player.

If you of anymore helpful hints that the manual left out please post them so everyone has the same opportunity to win in this game.

I used to know how but I don't know where my manual is and since I use the Rams I think I need to be do formation shifts to better represent the greatest show on turf.

To do fake formation shifts you go to a formation you want to fake the look and you hit your right trigger and than go to the play and formation you reall want and pick it. When you get to the line you hit A when you want to go in to your true formation and play.

#7 probably never should have been shared. It breaks so many defenses it's not even funny. I've known about this since November of last year and never used it in a competitive game. It's not a feature of the game, but a bug that fails to cause the WR to convert back to the proper route.

Whether you use it or not Valdarez is not the point. The point is that I believe every body whould have equal knowledge of this game. How many games have people won in league play knowing these things without telling? This just came out so this could have been used for a long time.

Last 2 games stats:
Trent Dilfer
last game: total passing yards 135 - yards after catch 82
our game: total passing yards 184 - yards after catch 84

Very realistic numbers for him. I am running the ball with Jamal Lewis and throwing short passes with Dilfer (just like the 2000 Ravens). Most of the passing yards are coming after the completion.

Trent Dilfer scouting report....

http://www.sportsnet.ca/football/nfl/players/Trent_Dilfer

http://www.ninersnation.com/story/2007/10/2/172048/953

Dilfer is experienced, smart and tough. He has played in numerous systems during his career. He has a three-quarters delivery but can adjust his arm angle for different routes. He is a solid technician with good mechanics. He has a good setup and delivery. He has above-average arm strength and throws with a stiff front leg. He creates enough velocity and zip to connect on deep comebacks and outside speed cuts. He can throw off his back foot when pressured. He throws a very catchable ball, allowing his receivers to realign and get upfield quickly. He has good pocket presence and can buy himself time. He is mobile enough to get outside the pocket and throw on the move. But Dilfer sometimes holds the ball too long and doesn't always make good decisions in the pocket. He doesn't consistently handle pressure well and will force some throws into tight spots. He isn't a scrambling threat. He is more accurate on short and intermediate throws than on vertical routes.

The more people know about something, the more it will be used, if only because now there's more opportunity for it to be used. Still, at least you're not advocating the use of it. :)

Really? Tpat was the only other person that I thought knew about it. Did you know about it already?

It's in the game manual. So it is not a bug... IT IS A FEATURE of the game.

I also don't understand how it's an exploit.... all it does is flip the play without changing formation and the reason we get opposite routes is because it does a mirror image. It's not like it's making up new routes. It turns in in to an out, a post-corner into a corner-post route. All those routes are in the game.

Really???

Let me try to explain:

1st - When something is broken, it is not a feature Mr. Gates. ;) (read about software bug (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_bug)) When you hot route a player, and then switch another, it should revert to the route it had previously, NOT the route it had before you flipped the play. That is a bug, not a feature.
2nd - It is NOT in the manual. There is nothing in the manual that talks about creating mirror image routes, or even remotely shows you how to perform this little trick.
3rd - Your explanation of what it's doing isn't even accurate, at least now from how I have experienced the bug. As explained, it will create a mirror image of the route on the other side, it doesn't flip the route as you explained, turning an in to an out or vice versa. So if you have a deep post on the right WR, you can have a deep post on the left WR as well. Dual Deep Posts, dual Fade Routes, dual double post moves.
4th - It is very much making up a new route, as it applies to the given play. The play was not designed to have two routes of the same kind, and the makers of the game have limited the types of hot routes that can occur in the game, more than likely due to limitations in the game engine or game itself. There is NO way for you to hot route to the routes that are being created by utilizing this bug.

Good luck at trying to defend against some of the dual routes in the game. The passing game is pretty tough already in the game without adding this bug to the possibility.

Re-read what Hitman posted. Creatinf double-mirror routes in the manner he posted is a bug and I have never used it. Didn't know it existed. The key is creating DOUBLE mirror routes.

I thought he was mentioning flipping the play independently of the formation (basically using Right Bumper but without moving players around). That IS in the manual... (pg 14 end of 1st paragraph).

Makes me wonder how many others don't know about it. It's VERY helpful, especially in the running game when someone goes heavy on you to one side.

The more you guys make a big deal out of it the more people will pay attention to it and try it. Let it rest, not many know about it. Besides the game has been out how long now??? I doubt a bunch of newbies will run to the game now.

Hey I just got this today so I put together a Power Rankings with a Photo Shop type of software.

This is the first thing I did. I will be doing more once I learn more this weekend. This soft ware was only $39.99 also. Wayyy cheaper than Photo Shop and it has web design and everything else :)

The season is winding down on a great league. The Deadline for regular season games will be next Monday November 3rd. You have a week to get caught up if you want a shot at the playoffs. I give playoff spots to teams who have the most games played so get them in ASAP! Here is a link of the standings that tell you how many games you have played compared to the rest.
