View Full Version : NHL 2K10 Idea List

Hey all,
Please limit your responses for game features and ideas as opposed to "please improve online issues" or "where's the patch?" etc. The patch is being worked on. We know what the bugs are in 2K9 and we are addressing them. I would rather this be about new ideas. Let's get creative! This thread could be much more impactful in providing long term features for the NHL 2K Franchise.

I've asked questions on three other threads about the possibility of giving gamers the option of playing on-line games (league play and in lobbies, which I hope come back) with injuries "on" and I've never received one answer or comment. Is it possible? is it likely? Is it difficult?
I enjoy the personnel management part of hockey gaming, especially fantasy drafts and trading. If you added the option of playing on-line seasons with injuries "on" you would create another dynamic in the area of trades and fantasy drafts (which I hope you bring back in NHL2k10). Do you trade an 80 with a good durability rating for an 84 with a poor durability rating? It would simply add anothe interesting element and, as we all know, injuries are very much a part of an NHL season. Why have durability ratings if we're not going to be allowed to use them? I would also suggest that if you add this capability that it be flexible. For instance, it would be a plus to have two slider settings to work with in order to customize your season.. "Lenth of injuries" and also "Frequency of injuries" would be usefull options, depending on the preferences of the gamers and on the lenth of season selected. Adding and expanding this feature would give you something EA doesn't have. Please consider this suggestion and respond in some way if possible. Thank you.

Make goalies smarter. I am not sure if you have the ability to do this or not but if someone is doing the same thing over and over again the goalie would know that or the cpu d would pick up on that and play accordingly. I am not sure if that is possible for a game or just limit the ammount of goals that have a high prob of going in. Like have the team 2k guy like myself test a downloadable beta before hand and see if there is anything in the game gameplay wise that could be fixed up. Who better to do that then the guys who are supposed to be the 20 best.

I agree that some pre-release testing by actual gamers is a good idea but I'm not so sure about your evaluation of who should be chosen for this task.
The 20 best players may be the 20 people who know the most about replicating hockey... or they may not be. Good reflexes and manual dexterity are not necessarily the answer to every question. The 20 best players may be the 20 most clever innovators ... and then again, maybe not.
I would imagine a game company would want to know what the 375th best player is thinking about the game more than the 3rd best player because there are lot more people who buy the game that are going to share the concerns of the 375th best player.
Just one (old) man's opinion.

Generally speaking, I always believed that one of the most important strengths of 2K's hockey games was versatility, flexibility and the ability for each gamer to customize the game to mirror his/her image of what hockey should look like. I think this goes for sliders, options and almost everything else. In this regard, I believe it is important to provide as many controller options as possible, including the controversial 2K8 controller options that many of us enjoyed. I also think it is very important to provide us with the ability to customize our controller button maps. I believe the use of the left trigger as a modifier for shot/slap shot or pass/ flip pass is much better than this year's option (press button or hold button down). If you give your customers both a pick-up-and-play option AND some slightly more exotic options I believe you have a better chance to please more people.

Goalies are going to need so many more animations. They really need to bring in Roberto Luongo and mo-cap him in an NHL Exhibition game or something, or in practice. Sometimes the goalies are so dum in all the NHL games like they come way out on a certain shot that guys can do everytime that makes the goalie come so far out of the net it makes no sense. The goalies have been a problem from the beginning, but don't go the EA route of super goalies. I want to see more animations more saves. Too many times the goalies just do things that boggle my mind.
Bring back free agency of 2k8, scouting players worldwide.
Make create a team better and give more options for creating teams like 2k8 like arena's make more of them and maybe custom painting around the arena? Having a create a team league online. Bringing back a chance to remake the Winnipeg Jets. Allowing expansion as well for up to 4 teams or something instead of replacing a team. Being able to use those logos again is huge, but bring back all that customization and more. Making the anouncers say the cities names too, and being able to be used in franchise mode again.
Keep up the create a player and improve upon it. Maybe copy ea's be a pro mode like they copied deflections, sim hockey and online leagues (as well as much more) from you 2K.
AHL TEAMS AHL TEAMS AHL TEAMS. Bring back minor leagues as well so we can send guys down.
Keep improving on the sim aspect and have some NHL players or former players helping out with the feel between different sliders like before and get more of an idea from them for what realistic hockey is. Keep improving on it, and also we all know you can make arcade hockey with a snap of a finger like every year so that really doesn't need to be worked on.
Since EA stole some things, take stick lifts and then double that with too much stick lifting equals a miss sometimes and high sticking.
Better collision detection.
And maybe hire a whole bunch of people more that are really good at physics and have them help. Lets get a big team on this minimize bugs and blow EA out the water, which is even possible with a good patch this year.
Bring in other leagues, RUssia, all the EA leagues and then some, like maybe Canadian hockey league juniors like WHL, QMJHL, and OHL which all have US teams.
Get the rights to the names of the classic teams. Maybe sit all those players and families down with the fans of this game and the fans of them and tell them that its important to us and that we'd really appreciate their names in the game and their faces. That would really destroy EA. It can be done, ALl pro did it, NBA does it, NHL can too. Spend money to make money.

online leagues that span multiple seasons and have full blown drafts and free agent periods
a intenational play mode where you get to select your team... if im playing as team USA, let me pick from all the available USA players in the game to build my team.. olympics or world championships.. does not matter.. both would be awesome obviously.... then instead of a simple tournament... full blown round robin.. just like how they really play them
EA already has rights to the AHL... so go a step further. Canadian junior hockey registration... NCAA.. all playable

As posted in this thread (http://2ksports.com/forums/showthread.php?t=183792):
- I read the first German reviews for NHL 09 and 2K9 and one thing that is again mentioned as a pro in EAs game are European Leagues and the lack of them is explicitly mentioned as a negative point for 2K9 - this obviously matters for a number of Europeans.
I understand that VC won't spent money in licences, but why not following PESs way? Total customization for teams. Being able to create and save lots of them, letting the fans replace the licence. So the CAT needs at least 2K8s options and on top of that photo/image-import and a good logo creator tool - I'm sick of just be given some pre-constructed logos.
Next thing would be being able to share full teams of created players. You could split the uploaded roster files in seperate packages (like all NHL teams and two 30 team packs for created teams) or up/download single teams.
- 2K8s Pro Stick should return, at least for the defense.
- Things from 2K8 like fantasy draft and sharing Gamer Styles need to be there.
- Coach mode like in NBA 2K8.
sports ticker for franchise mode; compounded with real world sports ticker
One great thing about 2k9 to me is the implementation of the real world sports news ticker. Two more are the streamlined simulation for games, which takes less than a second and the generated news on the franchise mode.
Why not bringing those things together?
You could choose to turn on franchise/fantasy NHL news on the ticker menu. Before the franchise match starts, all other of todays games should be simulated in advance. Then bit-by-bit happenings and scores of the other games are shown on the ticker right next to the other sports real world live coverage. Add to that rumours, injury reports and other stuff from your franchise league.

How can EA have exlusive rights to a league that is the NHL's minor league? That doesn't make any sense, they're all affiliated with NHL teams. IF this is somehow true definitely do this
ALl juniour leagues that are scouted worldwide, and all those teams playable. World juniour teams. NCAA too with their full face cages. Then have those players make their way up through those league and scout how they progress during their season and draft them.

I would like to have:
No zambonis before OT starts
Have the ref move his mouth when saying the penalties
Have the ref not take a "detour" when he is putting the net back on after it comes off
Not have the announcers and fans get into the zamboni mini-game (like getting excited about it and cheering)
REAL AUTHENTIC goal songs (The Sharks' hey song is the wrong one)
The "Bad Boys" music needs to go (Not every arena would play it anyway after each penalty on the away team)
WAY TOO MANY TRIPPING CALLS (I made a check along the boards, and it was called tripping: When we said we wanted more tripping calls, we didn't mean have every call be tripping)
More sliders and options
REAL AUTHENTIC arenas (The dashers are the wrong color in most arenas, and in some arenas, the logo is facing the opposite way)
Not every team should have a sound after announcing goals and assists (Only SOME teams have them in the real NHL)
Less space between the front row seat and the boards

First off, Thanks 2k for your hard work. I know you read all the negativity, but keep your chins up and lets continue to make a great hockey game!
New Idea #1
-CUSTOMIZED 1 on 1 and DEKE MOVES-
I mean, I really can only do a handful of them, such as R-Thumb: left, right, up or down. So, how about letting the user 'map' a certain move that they like (out of the entire list) to the 4 directions of the
R-Thumb. ( and the L-Thumb, too )
That way, it's like the user has that in their 'arsenal' . Other users will have mapped different ones.
And save it to our User Profiles.
Don't get me wrong, I love ALL the moves in the game, it's just that i'd like to have certain ones 'in my pocket' as it were. (especially some of the L+R Thumb ones that are difficult to do in the heat of a game.)
PLUS as an example for all the 'hockey purists' out there, if someone doesn't like the Spin-o-Rama move, they can map say, a toe drag left, or any other different move to it's direction slot.
This doesn't mean, getting rid of all the moves on both L+R Thumb, keep them all defaulted there as in 2k9. But allow the option to do this in perhaps a new:
CREATION ZONE - I know, I know EA has this name - just call it something else.
- in this CREATION ZONE - would be held all the create players, teams, moves, etc.
for this Customize SuperMove, I envision this would take place in the practice rink.
Some of my friends play on the Classic control setting, and love simply tapping the L1 for the random move, so definately keep that. But for others it's about the OPTION to play the game the way they'd like to.
For the DEKES, I like the system in place right now, how it detects when it is time to do the DEKES in the slot. Again, a nice customizable set-up would be COOL!
Thanks, I will post some more ideas when they come to my brain.

Link's in my sig. It's mostly based on 2K8 so whatever. 5v5's finally here so I'm mostly happy but we need a list of all players online and an unobtrusive way of inviting them to play a big Team Up game.
Other than that... I'm sure the dev team has seen my wishlist.

- NEXT GEN GRAPHICS -
Overall, the #1 attention grabber in previews and hype for print and internet are:
GRAPHICS.
To this, I say, at least, make the graphics for 2K10 , AT LEAST, on par with EA NHL09 -- and try to even surpass them.
Keep the models for 2K9 for the Wii - but give everyone else, true 'next-gen' graphics.
after that, how about this:
- UPLOAD YOUR FACE INTO THE GAME -
For reference, the benchmark is now Tiger Woods 09.
It allows you to take a photo of yourself, and upload it onto a player model, and it works intuitively, simply and easily.
NO console hockey game has done it yet! (although I will gamble that EA will allow this feature in their next NHL game).
Be the first to market with this feature, it will be a Unique Selling Point!
... more ideas are swimming in my head...

New Idea #3
-CUSTOM SOUNDTRACKS for PS3-
I know this is in the X-box version, but from what I've read, it doesn't work properly all the time.
Plus, it's not on PS3 yet... so...
An easy, fluid, intuitive CUSTOM SOUNDTRACK would be great!
for reference - look at SONY's MLB 08 The Show. it's as simple as choosing 'custom playlist' and 'adding' songs to said playlist. Hockey obviously has different aspects, though, and it would be nice to simply drop songs into specific categories;
HOME TEAM - Player Entrances, Goal Horn, Penalty, Fight. etc.
AWAY TEAM - Goal, Penalty etc...
and of course, MENU SONGS
example: NHL09 xbox 360 Custom Soundtracks:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVkgpenr9jE
example Burnout Paradise Custom Soundtrack:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tf7NCH2odGg
Over on 2khockey.net all the actual goal horns are available...
SONY must have some middleware development tools available to do this without any bugs.(?)
it would be another 'back of the box' feature that would help sell the game..
Peace.

Presentation:
One word... NFL2k5... (ok, it's really 4 letters and 2 numbers) you guys made it, go back and play through a season or two...
NFL2k5 wasn't fantastic because during halftime you can take control of the grounds team and push down divots on the field. It was fantastic because it is so immersive with great pre-game elements, halftime (intermission) elements, post-game elements, and more. There are things in that game that even today put "Madden" to shame.
That being said, presentation-wise, I feel that you're almost there with 2k9. You have an audio-only intermission report, you have the announce team throwing it down to the sideline reporter, and a pretty nifty post-game wrap. All of those just need pushed a little further and a bit of polish and they'll be great.
Add a weekly "2kSports Tuesday Night Hockey Show" during the franchise (just like the SportsCenter show from NFL2k5). During that show, talk about the top games that week (rivalry games, top teams, etc). Rundown any injuries, trades, free agency signings, waiver pickups, hot streaks, cold streaks). When it's getting close to playoffs, do a "If the Season Ended Today segment). When the draft is approaching, discuss the top prospects of the draft. You've done this all before, just make it happen with hockey. Go out and get the license for Versus, or for Hockey night in Canada, or TSN, or heck even FSN. Watch and, most importantly, Listen to them and discover what makes them an engaging experience for the viewer.
Franchise Ideas:
I'm not going to get into a rant on how there should be minor leagues, contract extensions, scouting, etc... because I realize that you probably already know that and just couldn't get them in for this year.
But how about letting us play through the pre-season? I've read this mentioned before on here and/or on other message boards. Again, we were able to do this in NFL2k5. You could play them all, sim through them, etc... but please let the player decide, don't force them to do one or the other.
Gameplay:
I'm not sure i've played enough of 2k9 to say much on this subject and I'm sure anything I would have a problem with at this time will be remedied with the patch you mentioned at the start of this thread.
I've read a lot over the past years about having broken sticks in the game and I'm not totally sold on that, not to say it wouldn't be totally cool, just that I think it will end up P******g off a lot of players when it happens, especially if implemented incorrectly. Seems like it would be super-tough to implement.
Scrums - they are a big big part of hockey. Not sure if your license with the NHL even allows you to put in things like that, Lord knows how the league looks upon the pugilists in the sport. This can be user initiated or CPU initiated.
Celebs - so close it hurts. keep doing what you're doing and just push the envelope a little further, you're almost there. The beginning celebs of what you have now is so natural looking, it just falls apart after the first 5 seconds, but it's there, it just needs to be realized fully. (again, maybe it will be and you ran out of time the first go around, just saying).
What ever happened to goals that were waived off for kicking it in or other violations? I seem to remember some sweet looking over-the-net cam that showed a goal or no-goal.
GFX - you should already know so I shouldn't have to say.
Controls - I have to agree with the folks who posted before me and allow us to map our own controls. I don't mind the new ones and having a basic option was good. But since everyone plays differently and thinks differently, let them map their own controls (FPS's got this figured out a long time ago and they did it for a reason).
Fighting - absolutely the closest representation to actual hockey fighting ever this year. No game has come this close before. Just need to smooth out the transition from the end of the fight to the players going to the box. have the linesmen take each player. So so so so close this year. Truly was the reason I chose 2k over EA.
Thanks for bearing with me, it's a long read, but I think it's worth it. and I basically second everything else in this thread prior to my post, you guys really have some good ideas up there!

NHL 2K9 is a good game, so thanks for that. I don't have the time to write about gameplay tings right now, so i keep this simple:
It would be awesome if the arenas would not always be 100% full. If you play Franchise and lose too many games, it would be cool to see lots of empty seats. Also when new period starts, it would be cool to see some emty seats and the crowd slowly getting back to their seats after intermission. :D
NHL 2K9 has the best SideCam ever in hockey gaming history, hope you make it even better next year.

kingsfan29; fantastic outline. I can't imagine why scrums could not be a part of the game considering fighting is allowed per the NHL. I am playing EA this year because of the 2k9 debacle; and every game I play of 09, it makes me miss 2k8 more and more. So I'm switching between 2k8 and EA. For next year; VC needs to focus on where they can beat out EA on features. This is competition driven, and if they beat out EA on key aspects; we can see the resurrection of 2k hockey.
2k10:
Scrums - should be able to started by either player/CPU and can escalate from nothing to minor penalties to fights
Goalies - 2k8 goalies were pretty darn good; compared to NHL09; 2k8 wins hands down.
Presentation - the couple of games I played 2k9 it was very apparent this was a key focus for development this past year and they did a nice job.
Controls - I really hate shooting with the right thumbstick. I can do it properly and still score, don't get me wrong, but if 2k8 controls were in 2k10; I'd be happier than a pig in ****.
Hitting - Keep the hitting power to a minimum; and for defense, give me the option to clutch my opponent and drive him into the boards. If i do it too long, give me a holding penalty.
Penalties - Having all the penalties in the game would be really great. On top of that; I havent had more than 4 power plays in a game since 2k7. 09 this year is just as bad as 2k8 for the lack of calling penalties. I like having powerplays. They're fun, and having 1 every 3 games is not very ****ing realistic.
Post Game - Whether it is the full week of hockey, or just highlights from that night in hockey; an in depth (3-5minute) post game wrap up with highlights from that game plus other NHL games that night would be pretty slick. I seem to remember post game interviews in 2k football .. ON THE DREAMCAST. First star of the game gets an interview?
Cup Presentation - Skating around with the cup sounds pretty cool; but just like first person shooters can have significant cut scene action; a little cutscene ... and I'm not asking for much ... 5 minutes? Let's get the pile up at the net; the championship hats; Conn Smythe player interview.
Home Opener - Watching a number of NHL home openers this year; alot of these teams go all out. The Oilers, for example, projected the images of each player on the ice prior to introducing the entire active roster. Again; this is obvious overkill for a video game; but introducing each player as they skate out to the blue line wouldn't be a bad idea.
AHL / European Leagues - Steal it from EA, plain and simple. I can play through both the Oilers' and Springfield Falcons' season. Brilliant, simply brilliant.
Do not steal from EA: Anything to do with their goaltending or fights, or BeAPro. Beapro is the most retarded waste of time ever. Not only will your player average 45 minutes of icetime per game; even on the most difficult level; you end up with 50 goals in 20 games and 3 assists because your linemates are incompetant. Not only that; but you are highly likely to see CPU make trades suck as: Ales Hemsky for Danny Sabourin. Yes it happened. Please don't waste your time with this feature 2k; let EA keep it.

This is for the Playstation 3 Game Console.
NHL 2K9 had some cool stuff built inside the little disk. Playoff Beards! Zamboni Races! I mean, it was like they didn't want you to purchase this game. And what did I do?
I purchased the game. And promptly sold it back and taking a net loss of $30.
So what happened? The gameplay was improved, but it didn't have the flavor EA Sports was spicing in. Franchise? A joke of epic proportions. The game lacked some of the luster it once had back when ESPN NHL 2K5 was spanking NHL 2005 with a knife. The deathblows were forcoming, but the game lacked the big-named feature that can put it over the top.
Not to mention, but they stripped down the franchise mode that made EA's NHL 09 look like Eastside Hockey Manager. The free agency is a joke, and the lack of minors is troubling.
Let's build on the positives.
1) Hybrid Controls- Keep em. Those were the best controls I've experienced in a hockey game since the days of A, B, C when playing NHL 95.
2) Player Photos!- They were updated. I mean, it was weird seeing Teemu Selanne wearing a Colorado Avalanche jersey in last seasons edition.
3) Keep the classic jerseys, and stay classy sir.
4) Playoff Beards and Zamboni shall remain.
5) Nice touch adding Ralph Wilson Stadium into the game. I am awaiting Wrigley Field next year. Also, keep the fighting engine.
So now, with those said, here are the five improvements I hope for that would give NHL 2k10 an edge over those pesky *******s from Vancouver.
1) Steal:
Steal? Isn't that against the law? Well sir or ma'am, you surly haven't seen the features EA used to steal from 2k. Stick lifts? Bring em' to 2k. How about some flavor too, in terms of the AHL. I mean, if I can play as AAA teams in both MLB 08: The Show, and MLB 2k8, then it's possible to add into the game. You don't need to steal Be-A-Pro, but the EASHL? Consider it a well placed idea, then snatch it like taking a sucker from a five-year old.
Even if the AHL becomes unavailable, be creative! Make some sick nasty minor leagues that are playable. Or even get the ECHL rights, and do that. It would suck though, if I ws the Edmonton Oilers, and my farm club was the Mississippi Sea Wolves. That would be some long *** travel.
2) Franchise:
Ok, so you toned down the amount of moves? Great, but wait a second. Are there any moves at all? Find a middle ground. However, please don't tone it back up then seeing Vincent Lecaviler on the Ducks. We know it will never happened, so make sure of that.
And why can I get Anze Kopitar via free agency? He would be a RFA, but someone of Kopitar's caliber should never be a free agent. That's for the Rory Fitzpatrick's and Jim Dowd's of the world. Players DO re-sign with there organization, so make a note of that.
Finally, Waiver system. In 2k8 it was flawed. Zach Parise would never be waived. Since the tone-down of 2k9 prevented anything, for 2k10, be sure to make sure this doesn't happen. Also, bring back the International Scouting system, and no, I shouldn't see 50 chinese NHL players. It doesn't happen.
3) Graphics
Ok, we aren't supposed to care about graphics, but we do. NHL 2k9 could have been the greatest game ever, but if it looked like NHL Powerplay 96, nobody would give a ****. The player models looked robotic, and I was shocked not to see a single Styx song in the game menu. NHL 2k7 and NHL 2k8 looked MUCH better then 2k9 (2k7 looked the best, imo).
Make them look pretty, and dammit, fix the fonts on the jerseys. It's like you gave me a job as a graphic designer despite knowing **** about graphics. C'mon, do I need a Richard Simmons video to pump you guys up?
4) In Game Soundtracks.
For the Playstation 3, I was disappointed to notice the absence of the in-game soundtrack. I like to use that to place some classic songs like "Rock Star" by Miley Cirus* and "Burnin Up" by the Jonas Brothers*, and what do I get? The cops theme before a penalty? Boring much? Maybe I want to mix it up with some techno beats, or maybe the theme song for Law and Order. I mean, c'mon, it allows the user to be creative.
Plus, I could place "Cotton Eyed Joe" for the Sabres during breaks in the action, and nobody would complain.
5) Presentation
Let's face it, when I saw the BankAtlantic Center FULL for a game, I thought the crowd must be seeing *******. Instead, they saw the Florida Panthers. All hockey games are guilty of this, but let's make this realistic. Presentation, I mean, let's add some sickness factor to the game. I almost pee'd myself when I saw that Chris Berman was giving analysis on ESPN NFL 2k5, and I know it's possible in a hockey game.
Imagine getting ready to play, when BOOM, here comes Matthew Barnaby or Jim Hughston (or even Don Taylor) give you the scoop on tonight's contest? It would be sick, then add a Sportscentre (notice I used the Canuck version), and I'd doubt I'd leave my living room.
I'd like to add before I end this bad boy that I hope 2k10 is a great effort, and returns to the roots of the glory days with NHL 2k3-NHL 2k7. If they do this, then I will be happy. Almost as happy like the time when Ted Nolan nodded at me.
*- Kidding!

With the old XBox games, you used to be able to purchase various kinds of controllers, some of which you could program. I'm not sure of the terminology but, for lack of a better description, you could assign button functions to the "push down" action of either the right thumb stick or the left thumb stick. In NHL2k9, for instance, you can execute a stick-down-to-the-ice sweep check by pushing down on the right thumb stick. I believe it would be interesting if you experimented with a control system in which the two "push down" options were highlighted. For instance, if you used the right thumb stick for stickhandling (the left stick would still be used for move player) and the right thumb stick "push down" for shot (or maybe even deke) it would create a lifelike feel. One of the things I believe you should be aware of if you do go back to using the right thumbstick for stickhandling is to allow the gamer to keep his right thumb there for ease of operation. WIthout taking the right thumb off the right thumbstick, either the right bumper, the left bumper or the right thumbstick pushed down could be shoot.
Utilizing the left thumbstick push down is something I don't think has been done in next gen hockey games and I am guessing that it could be an added function, just like in the old XBox days. I believe the NHL2K8 controls were good but I got the impression that people didn't want to stickhandle with the right stick and then have to take their thumb off the right thumbstick to hit a button in order to shoot, I hope you can follow all that but, generally, I believe further utilization of the "push down" functions of the right and left thumb sticks will give you more developmental options.

I've got a lot of ideas, and some of them may have been said already but:
first off everything that was in 2k8 and not in 2k9 needs to be put back. Secondly, some of the stuff that I sugeested for 2k9 would be nice:
I have a lot of things I'd like to see in the new game, and a lot of them have probably been said already but, here they are:
1. Customizable goal celebrations, either a set celebration for each player or a different one for each button (ie: X-Ovechkin wall slam R1- Go down on 1 knee and pump fists etc)
2. Include players from vintage teams in team creations, I wanna make an all-time team with Gretzky, Howe, Lemieux, Bossy and all the other greats
3. Actual goal songs for each team
4. More realistic defense, I hate that stinking 'magnetic puck' as they call it, it repels your sticks and attracts those of the coms. Every time I get checked I get slammed down to the ice and lose the puck but I can have 3 men on the same guy (rated like 68 overall) and he does this crazy move (that Gretzky would have been envious of) and scores! WHAT IS WITH THAT!?!
5. Why can't I take players off other teams waivers in franchise mode? This is a horrible defect and must be fixed!
6. Bring back the All-Star Skills competition, this should never have been taken out!!!
7. Highlight reels at the end of every game, week, and season
8. Elaborate Stanley Cup Victory Ceremonies that get bigger and better based on seasonal/playoff preformance and how many cups have been won before (ie first cup in several decades will have a more intense party). The ability to control players as they celebrate should also be included.
9. Customizable leagues with set numbers of teams (6, 10, 30 etc) and allow for expansion teams to be added.
10. Relocating/ expanding arenas in franchise mode
11. Expansion mode where you start out as a small expansion team with a small arena (and I mean like Nassau Colisseum small) as your team improves you can build it up and become an NHL powerhouse.
12. Have the announcers mention when a player reaches a milestone or sets a record and have the player's celebration reflect this, maybe a reaction from the crowd (ie balloons with the number '500' on them fall when a player reaches 500 goals or '1,000' for 1000 points.
12b. In francise mode I had a player on my team (the Islanders) score 187 goals and 98Assists for 285 points on the season, however the season record for points did not change, if this is a glitch please fix it.
13. If they're not going to add any new vintage teams then at least let us carry over our rosters from the old games, it is SOOOOOOO ANNOYING to earn every team and uniform and fix the names and have to redo them every year. Have a carry over feature so that
2k8 rosters can be used in 2k9 or something to that effect so that i dont have to edit all the old teams like i do every year.
14. Try to add referees challenging goals every couple of games
15. Allow for more in-depth create-a-character
16. More depth for create-a-team
17. GRAPHICS need to be improved, this is the one field where you're trailing EA, please improve them and your game will be perfect
18. Fix the goalies, the same moves beat the goalies every time and the other moves never work
19. If you're going to include the Superstar moves MAKE THEM POSSIBLE I think I can get them to work once out of every hundred times I try (no exageration)
20. One Timers, they're way too hard now make them a little easier so that it doesn't take me 25 trys to get one to work
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!!!! put all of this on the PS2, PS2's are six times as common as 360's and PS3's put together. If you don't put all of these features on the PS2 you'll lose so much possible revenue from fans.
If all of these features are included then NHL 2k8 would be the GREATEST GAME EVER!!!!
Another cool idea, why not add any REALLY old teams from before the expansion era (like 1950's 1940's 1930's and even the 1920's). That way we could appreciate the talents of guys like Eddie Shore, Georges Vezina, Art Ross and Jack Adams who are otherwise forgotten in comparison to more recent players like Gordie Howe, Mike Bossy, Mario Lemieux, Rocket Richard, Guy Lafleur, Patrick Roy and (of course) Wayne Gretzky.
Also:
1. Allow us to use vintage teams/ Olympic teams in Franchise mode (also, has anyone else noticed that we still can't control all 30 teams like they said)
2. Let us see our players take their trophies at the end of the season when they're awarded
3. Let us retire jersey numbers of retired players in franchise mode (I'm like 5 years into one chise and 8 years into another and I had so many great guys retire)
4. If we get far enough into franchise mode, mention when our old players are inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame
In addition, the realism problems need to be fixed. The problems with 2K's realism (that are within reason for them to fix) are:
> Injuries are totally random
> Coms NEVER fall when you check them
> Coms never MOVE when you check them
> Coms never lose the puck when you check them
> Your player ALWAYS, falls over, stays down for 6 seconds and loses the puck when checked
> When the other team DOES fall down they manage to trap the puck underneath them
>When the other team poke-checks you the puck ALWAYS slides to a player on their team in perfect position to score
> When you poke-check the coms the puck always slides to someone else on their team.
> When you get a powerplay the coms suddenly get 500x better
> When the other team gets a powerplay they suddenly get 10,000x better
> One-timers from the point NEVER work
> Dekes in on the goalie ALWAYS work
> The above statement is NEVER true on breakaways
> When you're up by more than 4 goals, everything the other team shoots will go in
> Goalies never get injured
> The crowd cheers when you win the cup...on the road

Utilizing the left thumbstick push down is something I don't think has been done in next gen hockey games and I am guessing that it could be an added function, just like in the old XBox days. I believe the NHL2K8 controls were good but I got the impression that people didn't want to stickhandle with the right stick and then have to take their thumb off the right thumbstick to hit a button in order to shoot, I hope you can follow all that but, generally, I believe further utilization of the "push down" functions of the right and left thumb sticks will give you more developmental options.
You didn't have to take your thumb off of the sticks in 2K8 to shoot. It was mapped to RB by default.

-Add NBA 2k like Signature Style
-Add jersey physics
-Better Create-a-Player
-2kshare
-Player Lock camera from NBA 2k9
-User-Contolled pre-game warmups and pre-game skate
-NAtional Anthem before games
-International team jerseys
-Better Create a Team
-All Star Skills Competition(maybe even all star weekend) For the skills comp make it sort of like NBA BLacktop where you play the competitions but not in the all star weekend
-User Controlled dekes.

Jesus: I totally forgot about the anthem! I really really miss the anthems in hockey games. Why not bring them back, we don't need the whole entire thing (although it wouldn't be bad either), but bring them back. Make them part of the pre-game presentation, but make them skippable if the user wants to.
and I totally second (or third) the return of the skills competition for the all star weekend.
On a side note, it's interesting to think that ESPN NFL2k5 was so successful and was such a great product that EA felt so threatened by it that they went and got the exclusive license. Did the team that made that game go on to the NBA series?

Kingfan makes a good point; whoever developed NFL2K5 really had a good feel for video sports gaming. I don't think I know one person who didn't enjoy that game. If that person (perssons) still work for 2K, please direct him (them) to the hockey department.

Sorry if some of these are repeats, but here goes...
- Make 2K8 Pro control stick one of the controller options
- Bring back custom controller mapping
- Fantasy draft option
- Ability to extend players contracts during the last year of their current contract
- Draft day trading
- Three way trades
- Hats on the ice for a hat trick! Don't know if it's a glitch for me , but I get no hats on the ice!
- Show assists in the on-screen goal scoring box
- Disclaimer: This one is really nit picky! Goal light shouldn't go on instantly when the puck goes in the net. There needs to be a second or two delay.
- Net needs to move when puck hits it!
- For line changes, show all lines in the window at once. This way you don't have to cycle thru to see
which line is least fatigued. This applies to line changes during stoppages in play. On the fly line
changes using the face buttons is a good system IMO.
- Make goaltender movements more like 2K8. This year seems too abrupt. They don't seem to have
momentum behind their movements. They seem to be able to change directions instantaneously.
They "magically" center themselves in the net.
- When goals are announced, it happens almost immediately after the goal is scored. It should be
delayed until the ensuing face off.
Can't think of any more right now. Hopefully some of these will make it into 2K10!

That last suggestion (by Kroginator on the previous page) caught my eye and made me think, especially since I'm watching an NHL game out of the corner of my eye right now. I'd guesstimate that 60 per cent of the passes of more than ten feet in the game I'm watching were not received cleanly, were not received without at least a slight bobble which forced the pass receiver to kind of re-gather the puck before he could completely control it and make a move. Most passes in hockey aren't tape-to-tape without the slightest bobble or re-gathering hestitation. In the game I'm watching, the third and fourth line wingers RARELY receive a pass cleanly and in stride. So it would be an improvement if the game could reflect this NHL reality. The puck spends a lot of time bouncing around between players and not in anybody's complete control/possession. You can increase the reality level by having more loose pucks and scrums for possession along the boards. I'd also suggest that there needs to be more difference in the performance of low rated player and high rated players. I believe the way players receive a pass should be a big factor in the ratings.

I have to agree with Macpuck here but to be honest I have my pass assist down to 45 and I have to adjust often.
My suggestions for 2K10... keep everything you have now!
Give me more defensive move's/options.
Bring back all the Macpuck bells and whistles from 2K8 that everyone seems to miss so much.
Bring back the live netting in the goals.
Please bring back Bob and Harry I miss the laughs.
Let me make move's and skate at the same time.
Give me instructions on how to set up game's online
(took me two hours to figure it out).
I love the scrums idea!
Save my settings and transfer them to online game's even the camera for example.
Please give me control of the zoom live in game.
10 minute misconduct for being an a**hole on the ice.
And lastly more updates during the hockey season PLEASE.

Give us back 2K8 controls. I liked how on d you can poke the stick out first and movei t around THEN you can hit a button to poke check with the stick.
Having the arena anouncer and arena signs anounce when a player has reached a milestone and have a cutscene with him holding up a puck in the dressing room or something, or like a snapshot with a smile.

Allow regular and historical/international team rosters to be saved and loaded separately.
I have no issues with renaming the classic teams (in fact, it's something I look forward to for the sake of nostalgia), but having to wait until the final update of the season to do it so that I don't have to redo them all with every single roster update is a pain in the ***.
The size of the numbers on the jerseys seem a little small compared to actual photos of games. The stretching on the names on the back of jerseys are hideous and do not reflect anything close to what they look like in real life (2K8 had this correct).
Also, include classic arenas (even if you have to name them "Winnipeg Arena" or whatever). Let's face it, playing as the '93 Jets with the giant portrait of the Queen would rock.
Finally, include a Whalers team in the classic teams. I know you can't use any of the Whalers logos, but lookalike jerseys with "HARTFORD" written across them would be enough for me... Or at the very least, give us the ability to create our own classic teams and leagues from scratch. :)

I think that you can't create a good game just adding new things in game. Zamboni, beards, minigames etc. are all irrelevant things. Maybe you can try to sell the game with things like that...
Test the game and finish the game before releasing it.
All the great elements have existed in 2k games, though this year you dropped a few.
Concentrate on sport simulation and don't under estimate players.

"Give pressure to player" -button. If you skate close to player, one button gives pressure to the opponent: small pushes, leaning and stuff like that. Hitting is hitting and pressure is a different thing.
Drop one button super star moves. The moves are great, but you should feel, that it’s you who is doing them. The main thing is stick handling and you could and small things to it with buttons: fake moves (head, shoulder), kick puck to skates, lift puck a bit and stuff like that. I think that you could do some sort of spin-o-ramas etc., but there should be a great risk to it. If you try it with Boogard, you usually fall down and lose a puck. If you try it with Malkin, you can do it, but if opponent hits you while you try it, it should really throw you away and hurt.
In online leagues - Assistant coach who could give advices and feedback: “Pronger has played too much, his getting fatigued and...”, “Samsonov is in slump, maybe some line changes would...”, “Our powerplay is good, lets try...”
More dump the puck plays. It has never worked in 2k-series.
Players skills should vary more. How they act in offensive zone, how fast they are, how hard they hit and what are their personalities (Avery-Briere-Phaneuf...)
Fatigue. If you have too long shift, you skate really slow and your hits are poor.
It would be cool to watch some online games in live (like online leagues finals).
Online leagues for team play.
Make the game a bit more challenching. Limit shot totals and scoring opportunities. Its more fun, if you gain one or score a goal.
Defensive play. It was good in 2k8 though ai was positioning weird, but the tools for player controlled players were good (blocking pass lanes, poke check and stuff like that).
In online leagues - player fatigues in seasons.
Take goalies from 2k8. The game had also good controls and nice variety and realistic balance in how the goals come.
Goalies learn stuff. If you try to score mainly with cross-crease 1-timers or use only one kind of deking (like 2k7’s backhand flip), goalie would learn these things.

I love the real time sports ticker. A really cool feature to add would be to include a real time NHL2k10 ticker. Let the Entire community see final scores, as they come to the server between players, at least the top 25! I don't know if its possible, but it will give you a feature that no other manufacturer has as of yet.

i know they have the technology they do it in tekken when your in a room. Only the top 2 people play and the other people just watch until they move up until there turn. Not saying it should be like that way because tekken is a fighting game and matches don't take 30 minutes just saying the idea seems possible.

It's been a month and a half and I still think this game is utter garbage. Seriously if garbage pickup day was tomorrow, I'd get off my lazy butt and literally walk down to the end of the street just to get rid of this game instead of moan and groan about this game on here. Honestly, this game should have come out in 2001. 2K2 for Dreamcast would have been a vast improvement over this.
An idea for an improvement would be to utilize the Vision camera. Be a trendsetter, don't go back into retro mode where there's no options to do anything. Honestly, the PR's calmed down since the release, did the makers of the game go on strike or something while making this and you had to hire replacements?
Start over from 2K8 and build on that. The only addition I really liked in 2K9 was the zamboni game. Online play is TOTAL crap and thats what I got the game for. It's not the network issues. The network issues have been improved at least for me. Although 2 games tonight were a little laggy.
Don't let Sidney Crosby score from the blue line on every single shot. Have goalies pick up on this. Ya know, if they've seen a move once and got beat by it, how often does the same move beat them again, let alone 4 times in the same period on 5 shots?
MadCartman something just scored 4 goals on me from the blue line with Crosby and Gonchar in the 3rd period. Unbelievable. His other goal in the game came on a breakaway because I attempted to pass it from D-man to D-man in the offensive zone and the pass was clearly going to a forward by the net. His forward intercepts my pass to my unintended forward and while my D-man is taking his time transitioning to play defense, his forward is about 3 player lengths by my Dman who was still sleeping. The offense in this game is terrible. There is no puck movement from anyone I've seen on Live. BIG LIL D, does the same cross move every time in front of the goalie. I'll swipe at the puck using the poke check with my D-men and get called for tripping. or I'll swipe and the stick will go right through the puck. The only puck movement comes when you pass the puck in your D zone and neutral zone. On offense, it's find your best player and give him the puck and have him shoot and score from the blue line or cross in front of the net. This is basically an arcade game with terrible fighting controls.
I bet if I had the right defense out there, I could have blocked the shots, but wait, just wait a second, I can't manually change lines! Actually I lied, I couldn't have blocked with any of my defenders because the dive button is sooooo slooooooooooow. Hmmm, I can manually edit players on lines, but I can't manually make a line change? WHO THOUGHT OF THAT?!?!!? That and the lack of options for controls makes me honestly wonder how this game was even given the OK'd to be released? Games been out in a month and half and I tell everyone I know that I made a mistake buying this game and I tell them to either wait til next year or go get EA's game because its at least made with the future in mind. If I could go back in time, I'd return the game. This game isn't even bargain bin material. I was pro 2K since the Dreamcast days, but this was the worst 2K product I have seen by far.

1. Have all the players celebrate after a goal, the celebrations are funny in a sad and utterly horrid way!
2. Better cup celebration, maybe let us have unlimited time with skating the cup...then press A so they can take the team picture. Maybe have gary bettman make his pointless speech before he hands it off, also add the conn smythe cut scene.
3. During the draft let us see a presentation of who is getting drafted, allow trading during the draft.
4. When creating teams, let us choose our chants, arenas, goal horns, jersey designs and color's.
5.Better goaltending intelligence, it is also horrid.
6. Include winter classic game's and skills competition.
7. more challenge!!!!
8. GM career mode.
9. better graphics, I mean it's almost 2009 not 2001!
Other than that.. the feel of the playoffs are overwhelming, but somehow NHL 07 beats this game.

KingAlfie's suggestion No. 3 is fantastic! A lot of people really enjoyed the fantasy drafts from NHL2K8 and the fact that you could create a league via the draft by using the on line website was excellent. King Alfie's suggestion (being able to trade draft choices) would make it even better. The fantasy draft was an element 2K had over EA. It was part of your marketplace niche. It was something to hang on to and continue to develop!!!!! It is difficult to fill a 30-team league with just the "real" NHL teams. Whoever has the worst rated teams (probably low to mid 70s overall rating) will often have difficulty competing in league play against the top rated teams (usually overall team rating of high 80s or low 90s) and so the playing surface is not level. When you create a team through the fantasy draft, you not only get the enjoyment of picking your favorite players but you also end up with much better balanced league play. And, in terms of in-season roster updates, a league is never "out of date" when it is created through a fantasy draft.

A lot of people complain that there is little or no strategy element in videogame hockey. I beleive that is a problem that could be addressed in way that would please the more "sim" gamers. Endurance is a key element. The last time I looked, the average NHL shift was just over a 80 seconds for first and second line players and less for third and fourth liners. How personnel is utilized is a major element in the built-in strategy of hockey. If the endurance factor is either greatly exaggerated or ignored, then you lose realism and the opportunity for the gamer to employ this portion of hockey strategy. The ease of operation for manual line changing also needs to be improved so that these elements can be more pronounced. Perhaps there could be a quickshift/long shift option by lines. I've never thought that the line matching option really worked very well but perhaps it could be brought back and improved to include just one (checking) line that would go out (if it was rested) against the other team's one (top) line. Also, since some teams only use four or five defensemen, the endurance ratings for the better defensemen who play in many different situations should be much higher.

little to no skill involved in hockey games are you kidding me. If that were the case everyone would be on a lvl playing feild and everyone would be everyone. Oviously some of us have more skill then others at the game. To say it requires no skill is completely insane and I take that to heart. I would like to think my skill is just superior to most others at the game. It takes alot of skill to know how to move around the ice and find ways to put that puck in the back of the net without being smashed and the puck taken away before you get there. If it was so easy people would find it easier to play myself
macpuck
November 2nd, 2008, 08:23 AM
Who said there is no skill requirement? None of the threads above even suggest that there is no skill involved in playing either hockey or video game hockey. Adding a larger element of hockey strategy to video game hockey would not take away from a player's need for manual dexterity or his vision of how the game should be played. I do believe, however, that it would be a more interesting video game for the good, average and below average playerds if the manner in which you adjusted your strategy options had a more obvious and dramatic effect on the way you team actually performed in the game. The extremes, for instance, are not really offered. Yes, you can play a 1-4 or a 1-1-3 but you can't really fall back and trap (nobody forechecks until the puck gets to the neutral zone) if that's your team's best option. If you watch the NHL very often, quite a few teams trap when they are ahead or when they are overmatched. There is also no "jailbreak" type option, short of pulling your goalie for those times when you are willing to take huge gambles offensively.

Make goalies easier to play. If someone continues to score on one move or shot give us the ability to quickly switch to the goalie (maybe R3 button, click down) so we can put him in position to make the save. I would like to be able to play goalie but when I do, they score every time. Make HIM MORE ATHLETIC....I don't like one times, it is too easy for someone to score from the blue line by just passing it back to the D. I would really like to see what happens in a real game with tip in's in front of the net. I would like to see that be a bigger part of the game next year, so if someone takes a slap shot from the blue line it must be tipped in to score. Also, you came out with this great feature of online team up, which i'm dying to play but NOBODY plays it. Make it so people have to play it or get rid of it.....Also, evenout the playing field, don't make teams better then other teams, for example Pitt's is so good and fast that a newbee can win with this team. Make it a level playing field so everyone can play their favorite team instead of playing Pitt's or Det EVERY GAME....I'm tired of playing against them.
PS- Make 2k9 work on line first.........

Here is just one more thing...
How about bring back the scouting that 2k7 had, like where we have our scouts travel all over the world and find players.. what would really make my day is having the ability to look at their numbers and let us claim that player so when you want or need that player, you can call him over from whatever his league is.
Oh and add these leagues in the game, AHL, ECHL, OHL, CHL, QMJHL...these leagues seem to be where people get drafted from the most, although add world leagues.. that'd be cool.

DO NOT make all the teams equal. That wound render the ratings meaningless. Some teams ARE better than others and some players ARE better than others ... a lot better than others. We should be able to see and FEEL the difference between mediocre players and the highly rated superstar players. Whoever did the ratings did go a little crazy with Sid the Kid though. He doesn't do EVERYTHING better than everybody else.

Thought of a few more:
-In franchise mode, update the comments made before the game. I have a chise with the Isles, 4 straight cups, UNBELIEVABLE offense but poor defense and the game still says: "The Isles are a solid team on defense...but little offensive ability (this is with 2K8 but 2K9 is probably the same)
-MORE RECORDS IN FRANCHISE MODE!!! I want stuff like Games Played, goals/assists/points by a D-Man etc. etc. it would make franchise mode more involving
-IMPROVE DRAFTS. Not to be Racist or anything but there are virtually NO black people in the NHL, so the fact that EVERY player in EVERY draft is an african-american is quite confusing to me. Also they ALL look the same and their names make NO SENSE. Vladimir Jones, George Pietrov, honestly!
-SHOW DRAFT: I know it's a stretch but try to make the draft viewable
-THROWBACKS: For each team have 3-5 players/eras that we can host a tribute to
(ie: Islanders: Bossy, Trottier, Potvin and 80's team. Oilers: Gretzky, Messier, Coffey and 80's team. Canadiens: 70's team, Patrick Roy etc.)
-MANAGEMENT: Let us change ticket prices, expand arenas, ,make alternate jerseys and other such management tasks (can be filtered off)
-RETIRED PLAYERS: When a player who has spent most/all of their career with your club retires give us an option to "Keep Player in Management" or "Let Player Go"

I have one tip for 2k. Hire VanHalen and I to oversee the development of 2K10 and make sure that the game is not released until WE (not your stockholders) are satisfied. At the end of the day, the stockholders will disagree with everything we'll want to do but they'll enjoy the extra pump of money when the game is actually good.

When an admin creates a league, consider the possibility of letting him edit the league roster before he initiates the season. This feature might appeal to people who don't like/agree with the player/team ratings, people who want to create a league that has a group of evenly rated teams, people who want to create players to update their own league roster intstead of waiting for 2K to update, etc/, etc. There would have to be some kind of opportunity for the people who are trying to decide which league to join to find out whether the rosters are default or "adjusted" and, if adjusted, what the rosters look like. Maybe you could have a maximum of 30 players that could be altered by the admin and they could be listed, along with their new overall ratings. I'm fairly sure it would be complicated to program such a feature but it would definitely be something unique to 2K. In view of what has happened over the past two years in terms of sales, I believe 2K needs to be creative and innovative.

like in nhl 2k8, when customizing a goalies mask, put in the each teams logo, or better yet, capture an image of each particular tenders mask which EA has seemed to excel at. Also, maybe add each teams goal celebration song that plays after the goal horn. By the way, the refs in 2k9 look retarded when they make certain calls, hooking and interference are just two examples. Maybe 2k should motion capture an official making the "correct" hand signals.

A huge Greate a Team -editor would be awesome. I really would like to see a deep jersey editor, where you could import images to your Xbox/PS harddrive into the game. If we could greate new jerseys to NHL teams, that would also be great. This would get a lot of new gamers into the 2K series. So many people enjoy modding NHL-games, so you could build a deep Forza Motorsport-like editors and also make the roster editing easier.
Umm, Greate a League feature would also be nice. So you could greate example Swedish Elitserien into the game with own jerseys and rosters. But this might be a little too much asked :D.

I would have to say implement the NBA 2K9 Living Rosters feature for both online and offline play. As well as the availability to choose which set of rosters you prefer when creating an online league. This years flex schedule is a mess and really confusing, I would revert back to a similar interface used in NHL 2K8. In my opinion, the menu, edit lines screen and interfaces throughout the game need to all be revamped. They are very difficult to navigate and annoying at some instances. For example, anytime you make a substition in your edit lines screen, if you right click the analog to view another players stats it somehow resets all of your changes. In addtion, this games sliders, especially online are poor and need to be changed. This game is already pretty damm close to becoming a serious simulation game, I think if the more options for the user to adjust both online and off should be a signifigant stride towards a better game. 2K8 frankly was a much better game in some of these regards, however, this game has made some strides and with some tweaking, 2K10 can become extremely better.

On the 2k team random matches need to be change. You should have people pick there team in a menu then randomly search for player so people dont know you they are playing Im finding some of the players that win are guys that wont play a person with winning records so make it not show the name of who you are playing till the end.
The controllers could use a real overhaul some new futures are great the dekes are better then just pushing b and happens which was the biggest problem with the 2k8 pro stick. Bring back pro stick or at least complete control over the stick. The face plant dive should only be allowed in last ditch try not every time a defender gets next to you, when does that happen in hockey. Also bring back controller editing i really liked being able to set up my own controller setting liked to a profile.
I really miss lobbies it has killed the 2k community.
Test the game before you release it to figure out the bugs. the tripping problem, crazy how many shot from the blue line just go in. the goalies could be a little smarter and also the defensive player to. sometimes if your not clicked on the defender they wont even try anything just stand there a let who ever go by.
and last player switch if the guy is making a dash to your net i want to switch to the guy that has a chance to stop him not the guy behind him.

Lol, I just got done with the offseason on this.. honestly the draft and like I said before.. the draft should include trading of draftpicks and players during the draft and have cutscenes of the players getting drafted. Hopefully maybe add like reports on this offseason's most wanted draft prospects.. that'd be cool. Also give us the option to look at the players results in other leagues so we can see if we want him.
Now enough of the draft, make the skating the cup around have unlimited amount of time with it.. and as for the intro it'd be cool if you could see people in the lobby waiting in line for there food, and hopefully have people getting up during the game.
As for in between periods... I think this addition would make playing these seasons a lot more worth it, have the "John" guy give the analysis of the periods and then.. give scores of other games around the league, and maybe show highlights of them.

Since this it the 10th version of the 2K series, put the old 2K, 2K2-2K9 (2k6-2k9 PS2 versions i would assume) all in one nice compilation package with online functionality (single games, tournaments, seasons, stat tracking, etc.). Package it with 2K10 360/PS3 as a Collectors Edition or offer it seperate. I've always wanted a compilation of old hockey games like that from either EA or 2K.

i would say before you get into the shoot out press start and change your goalie or on the last play of ot change your goalie in edit lines. The goalie change doesn't happen until a stoppage of play not like in classic NHL games where they ran to the bench and changed on the fly. I wonder when they changed that?

A few more things that i hate about this game.
1. fighting sucks do the same two player on a team fight every game they play in ?
2. shots from blue line. i can be winning the holl game a then guy puts up couple shots from blue line and be up in seconds wtf.
3. like you guy have or had in the nba games be on D be able to manuelly switch players.
4. goals smarter same goals every time is crap. only way to compete with player like that is do the same shot to which make game boring.
5. If you dont switch to defender the second the puck is stolen they will not get back on D and if they do half the time the comp will skate away from any of the other teams guys.
6. When your defenders are switching out and pick a play your controls stop working till they switch out that drives me crazy.
See everyone next year i'm done with 2k9 sold it back hope 2k10 better going have to rent it first now.

Issues with the game and ways to fix it:
Nr 1. Controls - players move like giants on skates, with their legs tied together. Manual aiming is nowhere to be found. Can't assing buttons according to one's own wishes.
fix = go back to 2K8 style
Nr 2. Body checks - it's like ringette, a few bumps here, a few there....but non-existing proper HITS
fix = watch every single game during the whole NHL season from pre-season to playoffs, and make notes how players ACTUALLY CHECK IN REAL LIVE HOCKEY! (and maybe a few AHL and other minor league games so you 2K can actually get the fundamentals of hitting in this sport known as I-C-E H-O-C-K-E-Y....)
Nr 3. The menus are horrible! Irritating to read, and annoying to use!
fix = bring back 2K8 style.
Nr 4. Player creation sucks d0nk3y **** - all faces except skin color look the same / some of the new stats are cool and can be included, but, no proper body physique difference (big players and small players differ like David & Goliath)
fix = 2K8 had working player models, get it back!
Nr 5. Create-a-team is horse manure - can't include a created team in franchice, or edit colors like in previous 2K versions.
fix = 2K8 style + improve it slightly (design editor, logo import/creator, jersey editor, arena editor, etc.)
Nr 6. Game freeze (enough said..)
fix = is there a fix for it I wonder...or will it ever be even considered by 2K?
(Just get that **** fixed ASAP!)
Nr 7. Soundtrack - what's up with the damn college/garage rock?
fix = let us import our own music(PS3 & 360)
that's enough for now....

In the shootout or a penalty shot press select when your the goalie. His name will disappear and it will be auto. Making him auto does not make him good a good person playing net is much better. I personally press select and use the auto goalie. But I also find it very easy to score on an auto goalie.

I always play a "BEST OF SEVEN" series online against my friend since 2K7.
Were not into playing the AI in a season to get to the Stanley cup therefore
we'll never see the beards or the cup celebration.
My request for 2K10 is an option to play online in either.....
Regular Season
Play Offs
Game Seven Stanley Cup
If this were possible we'd continue to play as we have but at some point we'd choose the "BIG GAME".
Thank You 2K I am having fun!

Hello (and also sorry if there are many faults in my text)
I would like to send you my ideas but -> I haven´t got the game but played the demo many times (because in Germany it´s hard to get and so I can´t rent it (I rent always the game before buying it)) so I post also ideas which could be in the game
I´ve got just ESPN NHL Hockey and ESPN NHL 2k5 (for Xbox)
First I would like to say that the game isn´t so bad (I think EAs game is still worse , the players do check like at NHL 06 (I´ve got that -> That was a gift to me so I couldn´t do anything))
I like these things
- For example I like the fights I´ve seen at Youtube
- The Motion Capturing with Rick Nash (Puck Handling , Dekes) are impressive (really good I think)
- The Sounds are good (I haven´t seen any games live in an arena but just because I don´t like DEL) listens like Hockey
- I have the feeling that it is easier to score from the blue line with a defenceman also their positioning is good (offensive zone) (incontrast with ESPN NHL 2k5 there you had to wait a longer for the defencemen before the blue line and then they were just a little bit over so if they would shoot a one-timer the puck would go over the blue line to the neutral zone and when they shoot -> Offside just scored 5 times with Defencemen in ESPN NHL 2k5 and I played over 500 games there)
- I have listen to the commentators and they do a great job
- Controlling is easy (as a test I give my brother the gamepad in a game and he played it , if he plays well then it´s easy for everyone -> with EAs game , my brother had much problems)
- Puck physic (but not in 1 part -> see below) seems to be good
But there are also somethings I don´t like :
- Checking isn´t so good like at NHL 2k5 or NHL 2k8 it feels like random , sometimes the player checks the other to the ground , sometimes not , also it looks weird when you press the check button and hold it , it looks like at the Gameboy Wario game
- Player models (I don´t know -> I never seen hockey player real life but) I think they are a little bit blocky and thin , I think they have much equipment on the shoulders etc. I think the player models at NHL 2k8 were perfectly
- The puck seems to go down too fast the puck isn´t on the moon but also not on a planet where everytime 2-5G are , I think when the goalie at NHL 2k5 blocked the puck with the blocker and the puck flied , that was much more realistic
Here my ideas for improving the game (but as I said , played only the demos -> my latest 2K NHL was ESPN NHL 2k5) :
Player models from 2k8 (so they don´t look too fat or too thin just right in my opinion)
Checking like at 2k5 or at 2k8 , also there should be an animation for checks where the players will jump of the ground a little bit , also there should be a counter check (I mean with that when someone will check you but he don´t jump , you will jump a little bit so you haven´t contact with the ground result -> The player who would like to check is down on the ice or won´t check the other player down to the ice)
Keep the Commentators , I like them but when you can´t held them , I would choose Jim Hughson (but only when you can´t held Drew and Randy)
I haven´t experienced any "volleys" like here :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjPWsjp9GEc&eurl=http://www.youtube.com/user/NHLVideo at 0:31-0:32
in the game I think they just held the stick high and then swinged down in 90 degree , they don´t “speared” it into the goal like at the video
Stanley Cup celebration and Playoff beard are good keep them
I liked the "SportsCenter" at NFL 2k5 (in the franchise Chris Berman was there and told about the game and sometimes there was a highlight (ingame graphics) etc.) also when the game loads before a match and Chris Berman sit there and said something -> you can combine it with presenting key players , team stats , team match up (which defence , offense , power play etc. is better like at NHL 2k5 with the stars) or which players are the best in their team in like : Best shooter , Best Enforcer , Best Puck Handler , Best Checker , Best Passer , Star of the Team etc.
Is it possible to get a other sports network like ESPN? Many liked the TV Station presenting of ESPN NHL 2K5 so the presentation will be exellent
Teams , I think you haven´t got to get any European Hockey Club (I can´t see a reason why it´s better to have an NHL game with DEL Teams , but I think it´s important to have Old Teams (like at ESPN NHL 2k5) and International teams , is it maybe possible to get licenses of the "great and good" Hockey nations (Jerseys , maybe Old jerseys and the Roster)? Also I would like to see Teams of Decades (at least 50s , 60s , 70s , 80s , 90s and maybe 2000s) , the classic teams should have fake names like Wayne Grotzky not Center 1 (Gretzky is easy to pick out but the other players not) , is it maybe possible to make also jersey which were planned and made but not used? (I mean with that the “Quebec Nordiques 1996” with the wolf head , "2003 Dallas yellow jersey" , "2001 capitals" (which had very new logos) or the "North Stars 81 black jersey")
Jerseys : historical jerseys are always good to have (also for the All-Star Teams)
In Franchise mode I would like to suggest to hide the other players attributes (so you have to scout them , also scouts should do a Report before a game (Manager favourite tactics (offensive , defensive , physical , Dump and Chase etc.) best players , underrated players who will perform good , youngstars of the team etc.)
The Franchise part should be the best not "Gaming" part (with Gaming I mean the action on the ice) and franchise part should be very much of managing , so I would like to see also training (Regeneration , Condition and Skills training , also maybe weightings of your training everyday (Powerplay , Shorthanded and Even strength , so when you have a higher Powerplay training rating then your Opponents Shorthanded , you should have a better chance to score on powerplay , also it should effect the simulating (some people likes to simulating seasons) and Personal that effects sightly the franchise
I liked the Skybox of ESPN NHL 2k5 with the Minigames (like the Shuffleboard , Airhockey and the trivia) , Unlockables (like the Future Hockey Arena , the Glacier etc.) etc. maybe you can customize the Box like at NFL 2k5 , maybe near the Stanley cup could lay the Stanley cup rings (so you see how often you won the Stanley cup and you see which teams you used to win the Cup)
Fantasy Draft (I know it´s not real and impossible in real life but , it´s better to have things that are fun then nothing)
Create own tournaments are also always good
I liked the many modes of NHL 2k5 (like just playing the Hardest Shot Competition or the Party Mode)
Creating Own Teams (Jerseys should have more interesting Shapes not like at NHL 2k5)
At the Demo I haven´t seen Checks over the boards or glass shattering checks (I think Destroying the Glass with the Puck is still there but for example at NHL 09 I couldn´t check someone over the boards (at NHL 06 wasn´t also there -> I mean EAs game))
The net should swing (haven´t see it) so when the puck lays on the goal the net should go down also when you shoot hard the goal net should swing too (sometimes so hard that the bottle on the net should fall of the goal
Own created players should be named with their Firstname or with their lastname (I remember at 2k5 I named Center 1 Wayne Gretzky , Thorne named the player Gretzky) , so when you name your Player (for example) Adrian Chara , the player should be named Adrian or Chara (but only if the Lastname is there) because Number 22 doesn´t sound well
“Three Stars of the Week” and “Three Stars of the Month” and maybe “Three Stars of the Season” should be in the game as a award (also there should be a picture when the Stars are announced so you don´t miss them)
I couldn´t have a look at the full game but I would like to say that Records and Statistics should be a great part of a game Players could be compared each other (their whole career stats , their career highest stats in every stat , their most successful year , their teams in the past , draft year with the team who picked him also which Awards he won and how many times he was chosen for the All-Star Game and the All-Star Game statistics (I mean with statistics here : goals , assists and points) also Playoff Stats should be there , also a record book with every notable record in NHL history should be in the game so you can see if you broke a real record (maybe it could be a achievement for XBOX 360) , also there should be team stats (Like who is the player of Nashville who collected the Most PIM in Franchise or Season) etc. I think that sports game should have a great Record & Statistics part because it´s fun to chase some records also they give motivation
Also in franchise there should be tracked against which teams you played best and against which teams you played worse (feared opponent)
Broken sticks , stick loss , helmet loss and gloves loss after a hard check is a must for a hockey game
Rin
November 16th, 2008, 03:20 AM
An “Arcade mode” I mean with that a mode like the game NHL Hitz , more action , more goals , harder shots , faster game , big hits , 3on3 (I mean 1 goalie and 3 players) smaller rink , fantasy draft , some “dekes” (like Ovechkins tried shoot at All Star game 2007 I think at the skills competition where he took the puck with his stick -> catapulted the puck to the air and tried hit it and volley the puck to the goal) etc. you can bringing fun back to the game and not interfere the “real game” when you have a Arcade mode Hockey should have a Sim and an Arcade mode , so everyone who likes to play Sim or Arcade has his mode and both player categories have their fun (so also gamers who doesn´t have much to do with hockey could buy this because of fun) or you could make a streethockey mode (EA made NBA , NFL and FIFA Street , not once NHL Street was mentioned 2k has a chance I think to make a fun game in the game)
Franchise -> All Star Game with All Star Competition and with the Young Stars Game should be also there
Maybe in the winter olympics years , there could be a national team tournament (instead of the All-Star Game)
Winter Classic (franchise) there could be randomly picked 2 teams and they should play in a big stadium (with no roof) and with historical that special game should be very visible in the schedule so you don´t miss it (when you have the game)
Team needs in franchise it should be set up which players you are looking for set the position , how good they are (Star , good , backup , young player) and you should set up if you are looking for Draft Picks also you should set up which players you wouldn´t like to trade , so the AI teams won´t offer you trade offers you will never accept
Real retired numbers shouldn´t be given away also it should be possible to retire numbers in franchise mode
Maybe an information before the next game which player could get a milestone in the next game , which player has a streak of points , assists or goals , which player has scored for the last time a point , goal , assist in a row (I mean with that that someone hasn´t scored a goal since 10 games) etc.
More unlockables like :
Glowing Puck which could be used in : Only Replays or In the Game (and also in Replays)
Old historical arenas like Boston Garden , Maple Leafs Garden or Herb Brooks Arena
Streethockey Ball as a puck
Elastic Boards (so the boards will be more elastic and so if the puck hits the board , the board should rebound the puck much more)
Players will wear street clothes (but with the team jersey on)
Player stats (I mean with that the player on the console) like at NHL 2k5 where you see how many times you shot , checked etc.
There should be (XBOX Live Achievements) easier but more Achievements “1500 assists” are for example (every last station of the 100 pointers) too much 1000 assists should be enough but then give just 30 or 50 points (examples could be added to your excisting achievements , I like many achievements but for less gamerscore because you have to do some more things (I remember games with just 5 achievements which could be done easily in 4 minutes) so you can add more achievements for example :
Score a hatrick on Pro or All-Star with 1 player
Special player achievements (like at 2k9 for Spezza , Turco , Thornton and Nash) why shouldn´t players get with Phaneuf a achievement like 5 big hits , 1-2 points (or assists) and 5 PIM (and if you would like harder 1 goal)
Gordie Howe Hatrick
Defenceman goal (Slapshot no Breakaway)
Penalty goal (but should work)
Powerplay goal (but not 3 powerplay goals in one game , 1 or 2 should be enough)
Shootout
Shorthanded goal (so you can also score on 4on5 and get the shorthanded achievement)
Breakaway goal
1st minute goal
Deciding last goal (I mean : when there is a 2-2 and you score in the last 2 minutes of the game and you will win you will get this achievement)
Win by 5 or more goals
Every 3 stars of the game in your team
5 wins in a row
Score 4 or more goals with 1 player
100 Team points or more after the regular season
MVP season award winner
MVP playoff award winner
Conference award winner (Prince of Wales Trophy or Clarence S. Campbell Bowl winner)
Stanley Cup champion
Presidents Trophy winner
Vezina trophy winner
Calder Memorial Trophy winner
Art Ross Trophy winner
Maurice 'Rocket' Richard Trophy winner
Play a game with locked position
Break a NHL record (I mean with that for example Most consecutive games)
Win a fight
Goalie goal
(No Zamboni achievement I think it´s possible but I think you will get earlier a Royal Flush in Poker)
Maybe scenes for giving out the NHL Awards where you see the players getting the Art Ross Trophy for example
At single player 1 game mode maybe you can adjust "Which game you will play" I mean with that : Friendly game , season game , Stanley Cup Finals game , Conference finals game , first playoff game etc. so players could also see things like Playoff beards or the Stanley Cup patch on the jersey
At the XBOX Live Marketplace I´ve seen Themes and Gamerpictures for NHL 2k8 at least , would be good to have some for 2k10
PC version of the game (so when NHL 2010 of EA will be also like NHL 09 which was like NHL 07 , you will have a great market because I think many people are not amused that there is just 1 hockey game and it plays like a previous game , your NBA on PC (I´ve heard) is very good)
At last I would like to mention that this will be a very good game :
Best of NHL 2k5 + Best of NHL 2k8 + Best of NHL 2k9 + Good ideas of the community = The best hockey game on the planet
Sorry for the possible language faults and for the double post
Thank you,

I thought about the control scheme for 2k10
I would combine the pro stick classic used in 2k8 and the pro stick evolution in 2k9:
I would suggest to have Pro stick classic 360° control for most of the time...but when you push r1 or l1 it changes to pro stick evolution and you are able to shoot with the stick.
just a suggestion but i would love it!

In franchise throw in randomly decided Winter Classics and European Games.
You don't need to sya where it is just say
"this game will be decided outdoors in front of 70,000 fans"
or
"Welcome to the NHL Opener, this year coming, for the first time, from Europe"
just make the arenas slightly different (no roof/different size) to reflect this

Controller customization is the bigger thing here. Let us completely map the commands to our controllers so somebody can do what you suggest or even use 2K8's controls if they want to.
My ideal layout would be 2K8's controls with X being Stick Lift without the puck and Protect Puck (counter stick lift) with the puck.
Also, find a way to let goalies skate out with Crease Control (maybe Back = Crease Control, LT + Back = Control goalie to skate out, then RT + Back could be Time Out just to even things out).
And fix OTF coaching, I hate having to press two buttons for my strategies.

I just want to add a suggestion. I don't know if it's been mentioned before but I'd love to see this in the game:
- A win/loss record for each opponent. For example, it would show what the results of my matches with a particular opponent have been (all matches).

i'm sure you are very tired of under performing compared to ea's nhl series.
1) bring players in and get the models correct.
2) fix the physics engine in the game. i have played your game and all i can say it sucks. someone at your department obviously doesn't know how to do math.
3) remove the right analog deke stick and implement the shot stick like in nba 2k9. also allow the right analog stick to be a deke stick. how? make the left trigger a modifier that allows that to become the deke stick.
3 implement smoother dekeing moves so hook up some equipment to rick nash and his stick and record it on your computer. do the same with other star players like iginla, oveckin, crosby and so on. implement the recordings into the game.
4) fix the freaking skating engine because it sucks. its the most unrealistic piece of crap i have ever scene.
5) bring in the ability to be a goalie in the game and get goalies like luongo, kiprosuff, nabokov and broduer to come in and hook equipment onto the and let them make a couple of saves. record the info ono the computer. slightly modify it based on videos for other goalies and implement it into the game.
6) this goes for all 2k games, bring it to the pc like you did with nba 2k9 and wipe out ea from the pc market. Ea is not commited to fulfilling all its duties to all platforms and with customer disatisfaction at an all time high, this would be a good time to make some cash.
7) This will push this game to greatness. people have been complaining about how video game plyers push the left analog stick to the corner to pick the corner. i have got the fix. implement my system. each player shot capability is different in real life so just do this. example, if iginla takes a shot, you can push the left analog stick to the top corner and pick that corner but if someone like dustin boyd takes a shot, if you put it to the top corner, you miss the net. there is like and invisible bar in the configuration of the left analog stick that determines how far you can push the stick till a player picks the corner and if they push it past that point they miss the net. of course, superstars like iginla an ovechkin have smaller bars on their configuration. make it skill relative.
8) take out those stupid button combination dekes. allow my earlier idea to work so when the left trigger is pressed, the deke stick is activated and its fully 360.
9) get the dang equipment ratios right. and use real international jerseys.
10) you need more presentation angles.
11) when i look at a replay of a shot or pass, my stick should actually be touching the puck.
12) bring in be a pro like ea did but call it become a legend.
13) make it possible to play 6v6 online.
14 support your customers with patches and so on. better music as well because you lack taste.
15) make sure you fix your goalie animations like i said earlier. keep management the same, add in ability to create player and give options for equiment and stuff like that.
16) do what i say and you will be successful. also make sure every hit is different because the hitting animation is as terrible as it can be. try not to fail with style this time.

I totally support this. The don't totally agree with the bars idea but the fact that it is harder to aim top corner with less talented players is a good idea. I suggest making the tweak of the analog stick more precise for bad shooters and less precise for good shooters to hit twine.

VanhalenLRband is sticking with the OG theme of the post, which is good. Right on man. Dissect the game.
I just bought this game today, and I've played like EVERY single season since it was ESPN. I buy this series every year because it's better. I have "meh" feelings about the game this year.
For right now i will just say what i've noticed playing the game, not any menus, or offseason stuff or franchise mode.
The first thing that stuck out like a sore thumb, and eventually made me upset and lessened this game to previous years, especially the PS2 version of 2k7, was the veering from the old controller setups.
What happened to the L1 button being the 2ndary function for all the shots in "advanced" mode. To hold the buttons down for Slapshots, Slap dumps, etc. is lame. The buttons aren't customizable. the layout is totally flipped and the instruction manual doesn't even explain this Stick Control mode or whatever it's called when you use the right stick. I played with that for a good hour and couldn't figure it out. ARe we trying to save trees now? like 1 extra page? Make the pages monochrome and only the cover color if we are trying to save money here.
ADVANCED MODE and why this was the best system ever:
Your guy shouldn't need to "THINK" to warm up a slap-shot, -dump, etc. You should just be able to rare back and let it fly. Having to hold a button down so many seconds is slow. L1 + square=Slap. Strong Wrister=square, Flick Shot= Tap Square (I'm not a hockey player. I'm from the south, so i forget the "Flick Shot's" correct nomenclature.)
What's the saying, "If it aint broke, don't fix it." I would think that the 2k7 and 2k8 versions you should NEVER waiver from that. IT WAS PERFECT!!!!
WHAT IS LAY DOWN ON THE ICE FOR DEFENDERS?!?! The L1 and right analog stick for total stick control was awesome. i know it's similar now, without L1.
R2 for speedburst? I don't need an accelerator pedal with the L2 and r2 buttons. I either haul *** or go slow. i don't hit it half way. X= speedburst. They are pressure sensitive buttons. This is without puck obviously.
Triangle should be poke check, X pass, 0 Check, and square shoot. It's the formula for hockey games. It should be about the direction of the action and the ease and quickness to which fingers feel that action. I think up on the button directions (triangle) for poke check. I think speedburst....x. My madden and every other game that's Accelorator based. It's x. Without puck...x. With puck, it's R1.
The referee is really getting on my nerves. Did this guy coach the special olympic games....or did he participate? I run into him like every time down the ice. or he hits my puck. GET TO THE SIDE AND SIT ON THE RAILING, NEWB! I've started to forearm shiver him every time down the ice now. He's like a dumb dog. Hopefully, he'll eventually learn. Who needs them anyways. What happened to gameplay trumps realism? Added feature I don't need. A referee. It's a video game. The computer can tell me when i fouled. Have Carmen Electra come on the screen in a g-string bikini and call tripping. ......that would sell some copies, eh?! (It's what Command and Conquer Red Alert 3 has lowered themselves to do) Point is.... I don't care for the refs being on the ice during play. In real life, from games i've seen, they get out of the way 98 percent of the time, and RARELy do the players SKATE into them.
But Please...Hear my plead, when i say that the controls are JACKED UP! 2k8 and 2k7. Keep it that way. At least give us more options.

So far, there have been 65 posts on this thread over nine pages. At some point it would be nice if somebody from 2K could comment on the merit of what has been suggested here, what is being considered, what is unrealistic and how many changes are possible during one calendar year. A little feedback on our feedback would be stimulating ... and it would also demonstrate that somebody is actually reading this stuff.

well i played NHL 09 and i liked it, i understood what it was all about but i definatley prefer 2K. improvements for the next game in the 2k series in my opinion would include
1) a first person view, with inspiration taken from NFL 2k5, i enjoyed that mode but what made it frustrating was that it was impossible to see all of your players of course in the NFL there are 22 players on the field and in the NHL there are 10 plus the goalies
2) Realistic Stats-just because a player is considered a "superstar" doesnt mean that they are superman, every player has his faults, Sidney Crosby is injury prone for example and he is a wimp most of the times, Most of the best goal scorers cant play defense, i think that the developers are looking at the stats sheet more then they are watching the actual games
3) Micromanaging your Franchise- not sure which edition of NFL it was i believe it was NFL 2004, but the two things that impressed me about that game were the ability to manage the cost of your tickets, food and tons of things that could improve the financial system of your team, it gave a feeling that there was more to the sport then just playing it and this type of mixture is needed to keep the gameplay fresh. the other thing about that game that impressed me was that after each game there was an article written in the newspaper that highlighted the main parts of the game but it was also pretty intuitive. The newspaper should not the hot and cold streaks, injuries, brawls of angry fans, and important and inimportant news from around the league
4) Natural Player evolution- young players (rookies) should not come into the league and score a point a game they should be nervous and their stats should be lower at the beginning of the season and should gradually rise towards the middle as they get more comfortable in the league. and the seasoned vet's should take advantage of this nervousness and have slightly boosted stats. and as you progress through the year the actual things that your player is doing should reflect their ratings such as a d-man scoring a slapper should boost his slap shot rating
theres a bunch more but i think that the ideas that have already been mentioned resemble what i was going to say, and whats thechance that my opinions and ideas make it into the game anyways?

I'd prefer that you tightened up the nuts and bolts before venturing into some of these other, more exotic suggestions. The strategies, for instance, are pretty basic to the game and there aren't too many strategy options. I'd like to see them strengthened so that they are more responsive. If you push the offensive slider up to 90, you should be able to see a change in the way your players perform that reflects an all-out offensive strategy. As it is now, you can move those sliders around and it seems is there very little change in gameplay.

That's a very good point streetster, player evolution (as you call it) is a big part of the game and should also affect salaries (ie: a 33 year old will want more money than a 25 year old of the same ability because of his veteran status and experience. Similarly, a 30+ year old player who you've kept in the minors should REFUSE to resign with you.

Experience of 2K9 from : Nintendo Wii
NHL 2K10 Design.
Why Bring up a topic about Game Design? Cover Art, Intros? Well its because its a main solid to a game and you dont want to look bad. 2K10 is well representing 2010 so go for a very modern look. Colors should be Silver (Ice) And light blue, Something of those colors would be very sleek. The Cover Art I suggest a Change in Font. The Font is huge and bulky which doesnt suit the Future we are comming to. NHL 2K7 has a great font set and I recommend to re-use it for 2K10, it will give the Cover a nice solid look for 2010. Back to in the game, the Ice is very nice though I see your dissapering skate tracks haha, boards you can make more clean and FIX THE GLASS, its a Nightmare.
NHL 2K10 Add Ons.
Create a Team, A full create a Team would be killer, From Jerseys to Arena Design I would just kill to get the game then. A Create a Player wouldnt hurt. How about a Winter Classic Match-up in a Football like stadium with Each team to have a retro like jersey.
NHL 2K10 Keeps.
Keep the Quick Game! I love how quick you can just get a game going. Season and Franchise are musts! Basic Roster Managment and that are Generic Keeps.
NHL 2K10 Get Rid ofs.
Pond Hockey im half with half not. Atleast improve the Outdoor inviroment (see your breath?), Mini Rink, I dont get the point of it.
PLEASE READ ALL OF THESE IDEAS! (we are all wise in our own ways)

Apparently you see great merit in the fact that 2K listened to the wrong people's suggestions and chose to go down a path that made no sense. Similarly, you make no sense. At every turn, it has become pretty obvious -- even to most of the loyalists and apologists -- that 2K has made the wrong choices.

2k screwed up this year. Period. It's funny the the main arguments in defense of 2k that I hear, is the feature of "team up play". Yeah. One feature out of many actually works. If that is what people consider to be an accomplishment, that's bad. It's like having 4 flat tires on your car, but only one tire gets repaired at the auto shop, and you drive off thinking, "Well, at least one tire works!"
Back to what needs to be done:
1 Franchise needs overhauled...if they can't figure out after 4 yrs, why the franchise freezes, give it up.
2 Fix the custom audio.
3 Fix the gameplay (no driving up the middle, players freezing up on powerplays, etc)
4 Fix the Boxscore. The time of the goals is currently "running" time instead of by period (This is hockey, not soccer.) It also doesn't list all the goals or assists during the game.
5 Better presentation...TV style during the opening with stat overlays. After the game, even a generic interview with a player (like NFL2k5 did).
6 Week in review (NHL on the Fly)
7 LISTEN to the CUSTOMERS.
8 WATCH a real hockey game so you know how it should be played.
9 Fix the arenas.
10 Coach mode? Coach from the sideline....call plays, lines, etc... CPU vs CPU...more strategy oriented so players actually play according to their ratings and not some "cheese" you know how to score.
Those are just some...

No, I blame the people who asked 2K to make their best impression of NHL 08. I see no merit in the path 2K has chosen for the series as of now, hence the "two steps back" part when I say that 2K9 is one step forward and two steps back. Get your facts straight, I don't think it's a great game, I'd be immensely happy with 2K8's gameplay, 2K7's defensive play, 2K5's franchise, and 2K9's Team Up.

i have not yet played the game yet i just bought it and am going to play it when i get home. i just wanted to say some things that bug me. first of all im gunna start with the goalies. it is stupid how in 2k8 i could do the same move over and over again and score everytime. like cutting through the crease the goalie doesnt react fast enough. it needs to be more realistic because not every goalie is going to let those in.
Secondly i would like to agree with everyone who has mentioned the farm teams. i personally would like to play some games in the minors. i also think that penalities need to be more real. I will add more things when they come to mind.

my suggestions..... showing a players games played, rank and DNF% before starting a ranked quick match. I just started playing and i dont enjoy playing someone who has 800+ games played. 5 minutes of pause time is too long, 3 minutes would be a better amount of time. Use the 360's integrated virtual keyboard. 2K's keyboard is terrible, and you can't move the cursor to insert letters.
Also, let us save all of our settings for us in online play. I really can't stand people always pausing to change their strategies. It'd be simple to just let them come into the game with their settings already saved.

Hey y'all!
Well, I haven't been here in a while, but since I got THUNDERPUCKED over at 2Khockey.net (because I suggested the NHL 2K team lacks leadership), I guess here's as good as any place.
So what needs to be improved for 2K10? Well, first of all, the game controls need to go back to what they used to be in NHL 2K8. And I'm not just talking about full 360° controls on offense and defense, but the controller schemes need to revert back to what they were from NHL 2K2 to NHL 2K6. Namely:
BASIC: For the NHL noob - Skate with the left thumbstick. Four basic functions are mapped to the face buttons (Shoot, Pass, Dump, Hit). Speed burst mapped to the trigger.
INTERMIDIATE: For the EA Fan - Skate with the Left Thumbstick, Limited Puck control and Shooting mapped bo the Right Thumbstick. Passing and Dumping mapped to the Triggers (no modifiers). And the rest of the options mapped to the remaining face buttons and bumpers. Speed is handled with the analog sticks only (no speed bursting).
ADVANCED: For the 2K8 fan - Skate with teh Left Thumbstick, 360° puck control mapped to the Right Thumbstick. Triggers become modifiers when squeezed together to enter Total Deke mode where your player hunkers down and can perform advanced dekes manually. Shooting and Passing mapped to the bumpers or face buttons. Speed bursting available by pressing the Right Analog Trigger only. Backwards/Precision skating is done by squeezing the Left Analog Trigger only.
The game should also start with either giving you a choice of what level of control you want by making you create your profile on first boot, or it should give you a small tutorial on the game in three steps: BASIC, INTERMIDIATE, ADVANCED. Depending on which ones you complete, new control options open up in the game's options.
The crowd reaction have gotten better, but there still istn't enough cheering or booing going on, especially after a goal. Right now, when you score, you get a 3 second sound bite of the crowd cheering, then silence as the goal horn and music keep playing while the announcers call the play. This needs to change to where the crowd contineously cheers all the way until the ref draws the face-off at center ice again. Along with this, we need appropriate cheering or "booing" cues when the rink announcer calls out the goal scorer (and assists). Lastly, the crowd has to be able to progressively get louder as the home team keeps the puck in the opposition zone, or gets a scoring chance or kills an important penalty. Likewise, if your team is playing at home and you're getting schooled, the crowd should noticeably get upset and even start booing you.
One other idea I had for NHL 2K next year is the option to play CO-OP franchise with up to 3 other players ONLINE (either through XBL or PSN). This isn't supposed to be the same as ONLINE LEAGUES however which is up to 30 users each having their own team, no injuries, no calendars, no off-seasons, nothing. Just one season and then you reset. I'm talking about full blown Franchise mode which includes injuries, off-season trades and signings, training camps, etc. But you can have 4 players (you and 3 of your Online Buddies) control each a team with the host alos having Commish duties (approve trades, co-ordinate vs. matches when they're scheduled by calendar, settings, having games simmed, etc).
I know many people are having a hard-on for EA's "Be A Pro" gimmick, but the problems inherent with that mode would just make it an unnapealing mode in NHL 2K (just look at what happened with the 24/7 mode of NBA 2K games past). The less gimmicks and the more actually usefull options you add to NHL 2K10, the better.

I thought I'd hate the 2K9 controls before and after playing with them but I find the Pro Stick Evolution to be pretty ****** good to be honest. I'm quite comfortable with them and am not sure I'd want to go back to 2k8 controls. However, I'd love to see the deking movement to be a little more realistic. Moving the stick from side to side just doesn't look right.

Anyway, I also have been thinking a lot too about this (not to the point of it taking over my life) but most of the time I am a reader of this forum, and enjoy reading a lot of users posts. I've been reading this thread since page 1, and I agree with a lot of people's suggestions and do feel that I need to repeat some of the suggestions since 2K will be reading this hopefully? (Ronnie made this thread afterall), and repetition is always GOOD. Please assume credit amongst yourselves, since I do not remember all the names of the people who already suggested these ideas:
` General Gameplay/Sliders/Rules
2k9 to me, is by far, the most realistic and fluent hockey game ever played to date in terms of:
- Shooting mechanism/animation
- player motion/animation
- chance/play that needs to be set up to effectively score.
- when with enough practice, and right timing at right situation, proper corresponding superstar dekes/shots fit PERFECTLY and immaculate
- I know macpuck and a few others BEG for the old controls to come back or suggest dearly for more accomodating/comfortable controls, I still say I have absolutely no problems with you guys implementing brand new controls every year... It is one side of my chracterstics as a dynamic gamer (not to say that other guys are not in any way) I always am open to new controls, and they never did me any wrong... 1 week of playing I'm used to it, 2-5 weeks of playing I will master it...
2k needs to further step it up, and make sure some of these following errors, unexplained phenomena and bugged features are OUT of the game:
- Please make sure the players are within "controlled" motion... though I complented the superstar dekes/shots, they somehow seem very "separate" from the regular fluid motion the players have any other time, and BURSTS with some steroid-filled effect (the jump deke)
- unexplained cancellation of the icing call (when clearly iced by the opponent, the icing notification simply disappears and the play continues)
- the uncontrollable force and magnetism of players towards the goalie when he has the puck covered and about to pass it to teammate and the defenseman just drives RIGHT into the net/opponent offencemen poke checking goalie like crazy to get stupid goals. But these things can actually be avoided by patient hockey playing by just holding it for the whistle as I understand... but not most of the people want to hold it.
New suggestion
- Scrums in front of net: Very much suggested by many people here, it is needed... I don't know what kind of a rule or standard you guys use but if fighting is allowed then I really don't see the reason why this cannot be implemented.
- Really work on proper balance and weighting factor and frequency for penalty calls/sliders: This is a very hard thing i know... because in most coding world it must be absolute and not relative which leads to a lot of complications. But I really believe that a new system like maybe referee characteristics as part of the slider feature (say choose between predetermined "strict, moderate, and lenient" modes of referees, we may be able to adjust the penalty frequency sliders according to the level we want it at, much like MLB's slider adjustment system which I really like, where Pro, All-star and hall of fame mode works with the same slider sets but the sliders are adjusted according to the difficulty (pro's puck retention is 80 then AS puck retention is 50, and HoF puck retention is 30 etc), instead of just picking pro/allstar/hof etc and the sliders remain at all 50. This gives better relativity for users to work with and know "oh so that is the effect all-star level has on this particular category of slider" and so on. Hope this isn't too confusing.
This is just the gameplay part of the suggestion. I will add more for other categories of the game later.

The thing I always liked about 2k over EA was the in depth franchise mode. In the past I had a PS2 but this year I got my wife a wii, only because I knew there was a hockey game available. But I've been disappointed with the franchise mode in 2k9. I don't know if the other platforms have this problem but the rosters are so ridgid. I can't trade one of my players for a draft pick because the other team's NHL roster is full! I can't resign my players in the last year of their contract, I can't even resign all my players at the end of the year even though the computer can through simulation! The inability to trade minor leaguers is also frustrating and needs to be included in next year's version. Salary expectations of top prospects are also out of whack when they're demanding 7 million and are still only rated a 73.
Besides the rosters, I'd also like to see some histories. Like who has won the cup in previously played seasons, who has won the awards, etc. And, I don't remember which baseball title it was, but I always liked having a contract as a GM, and at the end of that contract being able to sign with and take control of another team.
And of course, do what you can to improve the in-game graphics. I enjoy the Stanley Cup celebration but I'd enjoy it more if it didn't look like I was sitting in the nosebleeds. How about some close-ups?! And after a player scores a goal the little graphic tells you it's his "1st goal of the game", who cares? How about his goal total for the season and who got the assists on the play? This is just basic stuff that should have been thought of.

Sadly, as I've said elsewhere, the NHL 2K team lacks a leader among them that actually cares about the game of hockey. This has been the problem with the series for, what now, 5 years (ever since the game went out of Treyarch's hands and into VC/Kush)?
Anyone that actually follows hockey on TV can would be able to see that ONE TIMER SHOTS, ZONE POSSESSION, PASS PERCENTAGE, SHOTS/GOALS/SAVES IN SHOOTOUT are NOT a stat that's displayed during a REAL broadcast of an NHL game. Yet there they are. They'd know that the crowd doesn't cheer for 3 seconds after a goal then becomes quiet until the ref drops the puck again 30 seconds later, nor are they silent when the announcer calls out the goal scorer and assits or when their home team is pressuring in the opponent zone for a sustained amount of time...
NHL 2K9 was released to try and cash in on the Wii. Joke's on them I suppose since it didn't really sell all that well either. They fired Kush because they blamed them on 2K8's poor showing because of the "hard to learn controls". Now with them out of the picture, 2K9 hasn't even sold half as much as 2K8 did. So the problem wasn't the devs (Kush), it was their leadership all along.
I hope they learned their lesson and actually find someone that knows and loves hockey for 2K10. They have an uphill battle ahead of them with the EA hype machine pumped up to the max after 2 consecutive years or media and fan adulation. It's not the time to think of what gimmicks they can add to their NHL 2K game next year (like Be a Pro or a "Secret Lives of NHL Wives" mode) but how they bring this series back to its MOST REALISTIC AND AUTHENTIC PLAYING HOCKEY GAME roots.

1 make graphics as good as ea sports
2 make injured players if severe get helped by a trainer
3 make a goalie mode like 09
This is probably the best hockey game i have ever played and is far better than ea

Then why try to make it like EA?
2k has done a great job at cleaning up all the glitch goals and such. Here's whats left to be done:
1. Bring back the lobbies.--I understand the rationale behind taking them out, however you can still eliminate the "Boosting" by having lobbies with no challenges. Or, unranked challenges.
2. Find a way to have a PS3 Tourney.--You already have a feature that allows users to register their game to their gamer tags. Now, you should have a mechanism in place to have this Tourney without worrying about duplicate accounts.
3. Add, don't change--Gameplay and graphics are perfect. Don't change controls and gameplay, but rather, add to them. Add better game sounds, crowd noise, Announcers and such. You can also add by subracting the fighting. I'm not saying loose them all together, but I hate being on a breakaway and the whistle blows because someone in the neutral zone decides to drop the gloves. (not very realistic) Just tone them down.

Sorry, I don't know if it's been mention, but I don't feel like reading through 13 pages.
For next year, could you just stop the cpu team from pulling the goalie when I lead by more then 3 goals, even 2 goals, it's just stupid.
If you want to translate 2k10 in french, could you just send the things you have to translate somewhere in Québec, Canada, where we know hockey and we have all the right expression for hockey.
The graphics needs to be way better, at least as good as 2k8, but better than that would be great.
Bring the camera a little closer to the ice and make the menu clearer, they are really confusing.
Some more customisation for the face of the player, well not really more, but they should be more apparent, you change things and doesn't really show.
More painting for the goalies masks, where are all the teams logos?
Check back the name list, this year my name is in the list, but the announcer calls me Adam Adams when I score, but the commentators say my name right.
That's it for now.

1. When doing a spinarame shot with a left handed player, my player suddenly turns into a righty, FIX THIS
2. Fighting, After a fight the combatants suddenly get their sticks and gloves back on
3. Freezing issue,
4.player models, werent that bad but it can be better
5. Needs to be more variety in pre-made goalie masks since there is no make a mask feture on the wii

Let us create a player and bring him up through the juniors and try and make the NHL roster and go on to the NHL Hockey Hall of Fame. Like they have on Madden and MLB The Show. Let us be able to break all the records like on Madden too, so if we score 11 points in a game we'll break Sittler's record or any of Gretzky's records. I love picking up the controller and playing but I would like to deeper into the game on franchise modes or even seasons. How about the World Junior Championships, the World Cup, CHL, NCAA, even the KHL. Make it so we have to keep our players from leaving to go over there or try and take players from that league. Have an expansion draft, put another team in Winnipeg or Quebec. Let us set ticket prices, advertising, go deeper in franchise mode. How about design a goalie mask?? I hope any of these ideas help.

You're probably thinking of the Gamecenter Live 60 day trial. Google NHL Gamecenter Live, follow the links to sign up for a full year, and enter the code on the card included in the game. It'll run out after February 15th at this point, so when it runs out you'll be charged $30 for the rest of the season (doesn't include playoffs). It's a pretty good deal, though the exact same feeds are available from less-than-reputable websites for free (not gonna link it because I don't know the ToS here, but the NHL doesn't stop people from posting them anywhere).
If you don't know what Gamecenter Live is, it's like Center Ice through the internet. Decent quality, not HD by any means but you can at least see the puck.

EA's game is just more accessible. That means a lot to some people, but the flaws with 2K9 make 09 even more appealing to most. There's still a good game in there somewhere, it's just so rough around the edges (and missing most of its past redeeming qualities) that people are put off by it.
Next year will be interesting.

To build up on something others posted before:
In 2010 we will see a lot of international hockey in the media (unless you live in the US, I guess...).
In february are the olympics and in may the world championships. Why not investing in the official jerseys and name rights of the national teams? You wouldn't have to license the tourneys, only the teams and then offer tourney structures resembling those of the olympics and the WC. That may work good with a small second promo campaign in jan/feb, together with a price cut.
And if there is a graphics guy with too much free time, give a shot at the Veltins-Arena (WC-opener):

I was wondering if next year they would think of including a more in-depth manual that explains how to do certain things like face-offs. As well as maybe explain certain aspects of franchise mode and how to do them. If it would be too big a cost to include a bigger manual with the game, maybe give a website where there would be an online manual?

Are you talking about a visual or audio, and do you mean a cut-scene or a controllable reaction (ie: X to yell at ref, O to argue aimlesslt/X to congratulate player, O to tell them to act like they've scored before, stop humiliating the team and themselves and to get a life.)

1. VC also had to work on NBA 2K6 within a very short dev cycle. NBA 2K6 was built from the ground up with new code. NBA 2K6 went on to be critically acclaimed as the best playing, best looking and most realistic basketball simulation on the planet (at the time). Even though it was rough around the edges and missing a few features. And the best part is that they didn't see fit to include playoff beards or "golf-cart mini-games" or some other similar nonsense to make the game stick...
2. NHL 2K9 does have some things going for it, like the amazing skating engine and the pretty decent team-up online mode, the aformentioned camera angles and the replay clips (although why they only show them at the end of the game instead of right after a save or hit is unknown and just a little bit strange). However, everything else is just subpar. The AI, although questionable in the past, has fallen to abysmal levels as you can't even get it to pass to your teamates now. The goalies, which were impressive in 2K8 in how they looked and reacted, are a huge dissapointment in 2K9 as they've seemed to regress back to NHL 2K3 form and reaction/animations. The commentators, although anemic sounding the last few years, are worse than they've ever been. These two new guys make Cole & Neale sound like Steven Tyler and David Lee Roth by comparison. Then there's the graphics, which again looked sooooooooo kickass in NHL 2K8... I could go on and on (I could fill an entire forum section simply by listing the plethora of crippling bugs the game has), but I believe I've made my point.
3. EA's NHL hasn't changed much since NHL 07, but it hasn't botched things up as bad as NHL 2K has the last 4 years. NHL 2K6 was good (though people missed Thorne and Clement). NHL 2K7 was a joke. NHL 2K8 was amazing, though people hated the controls. Now 2K9 sucks a big fat rotten lemon...
Some have said that it was not feasible for VC and 2K Sports to NOT release a game this year so as to not afford their rival the opportunity to get too far ahead. Well, I believe they failed at that and failed pretty miserably. In fact, there would now be alot less damage to their NHL 2K franchise had 2K9 NOT been released.
That's simply my opinion, not a fact. But... Umh... Well, there it is.

I think that 2k9 was just a horrible FAILURE. Not a sign that 2k doesn't care, not a sign that they're incapable. Just a failure, a fluke. Plain and simple it's a problem that, I feel, 2k is GOING TO FIX!!! Let's hope that they've seen just how HORRIBLE this game was and put that much effort into the next one
At this time I'd like to extend my hopes and best wishes to Trent Hunter (NYI) who was injured tonight when a check into the boards knocked him into an open door on the boards.

I get the feeling that 2K will come back at us with a 2K10 that visually blows us away. I feel the series in general will continue to be a bit misguided (though greatly improved), but after three years of EA dominance (in the eyes of many, at least) I expect a strong showing next year. Better than 2K9 and 2K10 would've been had Kush stayed around, at least (and that would've been damn good).

I got an idea for offline franchise, NHL All-Star player selection
(I HATE the way computer ALWAYS chooses the players with currently highest overalls in the league - even if I play with a guy with an overall of 74, and score 80 points up until the All-Star game, he wont be selected to the roster...****es me off!)
Anyways...
You can call this Voting For All-Stars, All-Star Selection (or whatever)..(and if you dont want this setting, it could be adjusted, just like everything else in the options menu)
1. When the All-Star date approaches, computer will pre-select top 40 forwards from places 1-40 with highest stats (goals, assists, points, etc..) and others below that rank wont be selectable because of low stats (kinda like below "required amount of points", let it be lets say, 50..) And computer would disregard overall rank, no matter if it's Sid the Kid with 99 (with only 44 points), Ovechkin 99 (with 49 points), or other superstars - it would just focus on stats - how well players are in regard of stats. This way you can have a blast with various players, and actually enjoy the All-Star game.
2. From these 40 players, the human controlled player can choose his / her own roster for the East / West (depending on which side you gonna play on) team from that bunch.
The same rule would apply for defenders, except, maybe not that many, maybe just for example, from top 30? (1-30 top stat defenders) And for goalies even less selection, just around 20-25? (top 1-25 most wins, highest save%..etc)
3. After the roster selection you edit lines and move on to the game it self :)
I wouldn't mind having an option like that. From my point of view, this would increase the fun in the game, and make it more re-playable.

Or how about they just include the option of getting the real results from the NHL? It could be part of the 2K Insider feature that's now implemented into NBA 2K9. Heck, they give us live sports scores and news. Why not also include All-Star Vote Balots?
One thing I would like to mention for offline is a revamping of the player/team evolution mechanics. See, right now, doing a practice or a scrimmage is a generic way to boost chemestry or some random stats without any real control over WHAT we want to our team (or individual player) to improve at.
Say I'm playing with the Montreal Canadiens who are struggling on the PP right now. Well, why not allow me to emphasize the Power Play during training or a scrimmage so that my team, as a whole, will improve in that area rather than a general attribute boost (that only last 2-3 games tops). It could be set up like in NBA 2K where you would be assigned a limited number of HOURS per week to train your players or team, then you'd have to run them through the set regiments. As an example, let's extrapolate my PP idea from above:
You'd start the training with a 5 on 4 PP with the PP1 line. You'd have 2 minutes to score a goal. Points would also be given for amount of time you keep the puck in the offensive zone, preventing the opposing team from dumping the puck out and creating scoring chances. You'd lose points if you allow the other team to dump the puck out, if you don't cycle the puck and if you don't capitalize on your scoring chances (like if you have an opening and elect NOT to shoot for some reason). In essence, you'd be trying to reach a point goal by the end of the 2 minutes to succeed (or fail) that particular training. Once the 2 minutes are up (or you score), the next PP line (PP2) comes up to bat, etc. At first, reaching the goal would be rather easy, but it would get harder and harder as the season goes on. Like it would start by your having to reach a total of 10 points the first time you try that particular training, then max out at like 30 points by the time you've done the same training 10 times in a season. If you fail the training, then your team would get a small chemistry loss (rather than an attribute loss).
It could be done for all facets of your team's game like PK, face-offs, defense, offense, passing, skating (speed and agility), puck handling, dumping, line changes (succeed in these drills and your players are more in sync resulting in faster line changes).

In that case, it falls back to something like RoadDoggFL said in his wishlist. But considering that at least 50% of all Xbox owners have a gold account and something like 75% have at least a silver account (and thereby an internet connection) I don't see why it couldn't be implemented. Besides, NBA 2K9 gives you a choice at the start wether you want the NBA 2K Insider to update your rosters with up to date info or not, so it's really up to the user and not a hard set option. Also, seven or eight years ago, people WITHOUT an internet connection may have been the norm. But nowadays, you're more of a rare exception... No offense.

A small thing that bugs me since I played my first games with 2K7 and is still present in 2K9: Why can't I set my offense strategy while being in my own half of the field and in puck posession? The good thing is now, that you can adjust other team settings in game, but still, you can't pick an offense startegy on your half. My understanding is, that this is due to its direct transition from picking to the on-ice action, but why is it not possible to stop the transition a little, say till you cross the offense blue line? So you could set up your game before.
A nice addition this year is the coach interview info after the period breaks like in the NBA series. But how many times have you actually been able to listen to the whole saying? It gets interupted with commentary of the on-ice action; it is too long. Shorten it or find a way to capitalize of its modular structure some more, like the commentators excuse for interupting after their take on the current play and Shrader continues with the part which should have come next afterwards.

Minor Leagues:
One thing that i think alot of people might like but might be hard to incorparate into the game is a wider variety of miner league teams such as The OHL,WHL,AHL.Maybe not to play as during a season but as a minor league to send other players to during Franchise mode because your always seeing guys who get drafted go to WHL and OHL teams before going to there teams AHL team. This would bring something no other NHL game has eer had.
Draft:
I think the NHL Draft should be expanded to maybe be a lot more like the way Madden NFL does it with scouting reports, off field tests etc..Make it possible to trade picks around during the draft and show were a player is expected to go.
Coaches and Off-Season:
Although I like the way the Off-Season has been made i think putting in a little more to it would be better.
I think adding the possibility to fire and hire coaches would be a really good new feature never incorparated into a NHL Game. Also maybe adding Arbitration Hearings as you see right before Free agent season.
Conlcusion:
I think 2K Sports already gives more in depth features than EA Sports but EA has better graphics (A.K.A players faces and expretions) and thats why EA has more "Buyers" than 2K but with some of these ideas incorparated into the NHL 2K10 or 2K11 I think 2K Sports can overtake EA Games.

The only real thing I would like to see in this series is a little more improved graphics, and new commentators. I hate these stupid ones from San Jose, they don't even know what ice is, let alone hockey down there. I would like to see either the TSN commentating duo of Gord Miller and Peirre Miguire, they are the best commentators in the business, or Bob Cole and Harry Neale back. They weren't perfect, but they are better than these stupid americans.

I don't know if its is possible but
WHAT IF ?
2k took hundreds of recorded hours of Foster Hewett
and used him to commentate the game????????
In 1922 Foster Hewitt was only 20 years old when he was assigned to announce the first radio broadcast of a hockey game by his employer, Canada Covers America First!, a radio station owned by the Toronto Star newspaper. Reporting on the game from a cramped glass box far above the ice, it was during this game that Hewitt first uttered his famous phrase, “He shoots, he scores!” After the broadcast, letters from listeners began pouring in; its popularity with listeners was unprecedented.

I would like to see dropped sticks from players and goalies with the ability to press a button to give up your stick for the goalie or defenseman without.
Helmets that fall off and mean something. Increase in chance of injury playing with no helmet. All of these ideas, minus the ability to give up a stick, came from the NHL Breakaway series on the N64.
Also higher dumps, I play a dump and chase offense in this game but when I try to dump to the diagonal corner, it never gets over the defenseman's heads, they always catch it.
PLEASE BRING BACK ICON SWITCHING!!!!!!!!! Wears me out trying to back check with a winger only to have it constantly switch between my 2 defensemen, GARRR!
Also a combination for saucer passes, the extra time it takes to 'hold' down pass usually results in the passing lane closing. I need an LT + pass or something.
I still dig this game. Not perfect, but really fun in my opinion.

The skating engine is great. They just need to do away with the slow-as-molasses turning and the bone-head decisions they made with some things like no skating while stickhandling or poke checking. I was more impressed with it in 2K7, but it mostly feels the same all things considered.

I think you're confusing GRAPHICS with SKATING ENGINE... When I said "The skating engine is great", I'm actually talking about the feeling of players when you move them on the ice. It feels like their movements are actually based on momentum and physics instead of just animations (like in EA's game). It's still not where it should be, but it's much better than it's ever been. I do agree with you however that the graphics in NHL 2K9 suck big time.
I also agree with your idea of implementing the goalies' signature styles (something that's been in their NBA 2K series for some time now). I know it would be impossible to get all 800 NHL players individual skating and shooting animations or even 200 of them. But goalies? That should be feasible. My main beef with the goalies in 2K9 is that they were brought back to the look and feel of NHL 2K3, which had possibly the WORST goalie AI (not to mention graphics and animations) in the history of hockey videogames. I think they nailed the look and feel of the goalies dead on with NHL 2K8. I don't understand why they felt like they had to destroy them like they did with 2K9...

It's a videogame. . It's called clipping. It's normal. You'll never get rid of it completely. Even the much lauded NHL 09 has it. In fact, I can probably show you it happening more in EA's game than I can in 2K's game. It's not perfect, but in the general context of the game, it works fine. And since you're always playing the game with a far away viewpoint, you'll never notice these things unless you zoom in, but then you'd only do so for replays.
Still, my point is that NHL 2K8, a game that cost Kush their jobs because the media said it was "bad", does a better job conveying the look and feel of hockey than NHL 2K9 does.

Uhh... how about gameplay? Fix the hitting, a player can miss a check but keep pounding on the check button until his opponent falls. That crap needs to go. Fix penalties, tripping and interference are so damn inconsistent it's ridiculous. Goalies falling for the same drive-by crap. Add AI learning, don't let goalies fall for the same shot from the high point all game long.
There is so much more work to be done than those three largely irrelevant areas you mentioned.

Ok, I am no Shakespeare, but that is just beautiful poetry baby! I cycle the puck behind the net a lot and nothing gets me more worked up than when the puck gets stuck in the net and somehow the goalie is, as you would probably say, amoeba'n it in A.
I agree, the behind the net play needs to be tightened up so the puck gets less stuck and less amoeba'd.

Once more, your confusing VISUALS with the actual physics engine that handles the skating. What you're referring to is an animation glitch where the game needs to have the players transition into place before the face of, so it "accelerates" their movement while not necessarily keeping the skating animations in synch with this movement. So you get a type of "gliding on ice" effect that's also present in other (much better) games, even NBA 2K and EA's NHL games.
What RoadDoggFL is referring to is the actual feel of the players when you control them. They don't necessarily turn on a dime anymore, they make proper use of the crossover skating technique and there's a nice feel of weight transfer when you want to change directions which other games don't have.
This game doesn't have to be tweaked. It should be scrapped altogether and start back from the amazing strides that were done with NHL 2K8. Then VC should go from there.

But you have to agree sometimes the skaters take forehand turns SOOOOOOO SLOWLYYYYY! The turns on the backhand are quicker, as they are in real life. However, the real life turns toward the forehand side are no where near as slow (weird is that the slow turn does not happen all the time). Otherwise I really do enjoy this skating a lot!

I still stand by the game is solid. It does need some fixing up. The fact that some of the pictures are for nhl 2k6 is pretty sad they couldn't update that. But who the hell cares what jerseys you can use and **** like that if you are buying the game for what jerseys you can select there is a pretty big problem.
I personally really enjoy the skating in the game and yes there does need to be some sort of dump and chase system in the game you really can't do that in 2k9 to much the d man can make that outlet pass way to quick. But other then that the feel of your player and the controllers are so nice. I don't happen to use pro stick, I use hybrid but the way it feels is so nice. I feel like I have full controller over my guy. I don't happen to see alot of fancy deaking, but in the nhl how many fancy deaks do you really see. There is no side steping in 09, there is lose puck deak but if your not on the ball you get hit at least in 2k9 you can move around guys.
The game really isn't a total loss they messed up a few things but I still stand by the feel of this game feels more like nhl hockey then any other game. NHL 09 is dominated by cross cress scoring. Thats all it is. One guy crashes the net and the other guy feeds him a pass. Anyone who disputes that doesn't play online because ever division 1 team in the game does that all game because the percentage on the goal is like 75% on a cpu goalie. I love the fact that in 2k9 there are goals from everywhere and its not a high percentage its just random. Sometimes that the tough luck in the nhl.
VC I do expect more next year but really all I am asking for is a be a pro like type thing for 2k10 and a tourny of some sort I do enjoy getting prizes

I could say the same thing of EA's dekeing system where superstars and scrubs alike can dangle the puck on a string. The puck hardly unglueing from the stick blade as yor furiously move the stick left to right, right to left, 50 times within 3 seconds... Reeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaally realistic...

Wow, its real realistic when i come in with ovechkin and move the skill stick from left to right, it looks like donald brasher is then one dekeing. all i'm saying is 2k needs to improve the stick movement of the skill stick, allow you to stick handle while you skate, get rid of superstar moves and allow more creativity with the skill stick. Superstar moves are only seen in the allstar game and it should only be in the allstar game when you play in it. you will never see crosby or iginla come in on a breakaway and the lift the puck into the air and bat it in. So make it realistic.

i have never seen anyone effective use a superstar move in a game. So I am sure people can do it but its not effective much like in real life. I am not saying they should keep it personally I don't care I just like the fact that 2k doesn't force you to use the skill stick.

Almost all of these moves came from in-game situations...

When you try and check someone, you should only hit the guy with the puck.
I can't tell you how many times I've aimed at the guy with the puck, shook the nun-chuck, and watched as my player goes off in a random direction. Or worse yet, checked my own player resulting in a two on zero breakaway.
This is very important and makes perfect sense. After all, it's against the rules to check anyone who doesn't have the puck.
Other minor issues include the linesman taking too long to drop the puck. Having to watch players do a little circle while waiting for the face off. Having to wait for the actual fight to start. Etc.
But the body checking is a huge problem.

Computers should not pull the goalie at the end of the game if they are more than 2 goals down. There's just no point.
Also, I've set my dump and chase to zero, but my players are still too eager to jump in ahead of the puck. Not sure how one would fix that.
Similarly, it is very hard to grab the puck near the blueline and not have the player skate the puck out of the zone forcing you to regroup.
Referees and linesmen should get out of the way faster.

yeah but how many time are these move attempted and it doesn't work at all. I would say the percentage of tries to sucesses is pretty one sided much like in the game. You don't score alot of goals doing spin o roma's and **** like that in this game.

For NHL 2K10 for the Wii, you should seriously consider adding an online mode to the game. Also for NHL 2K10, it should have everything that is in the XBOX 360 and PS3 versions like the ablility to access the 2K Sports Online Community and also the ability to download demos of the game before the official release of the game. Please consider that because it's not really fair for the Wii owners like me who have the NHL 2K9 game and can't access the 2K Sports online community and Team 2K because it's only available for the PS3 and XBOX 360 versions.

I actually scored one during a nearly full Team Play match. Scrum in front of the net, puck came loose along the boards and I picked it up for the wraparound while the goalie was trying to make it back to the post.
Beauty, especially since everyone was screaming at the previous missed opportunity.

-I liked it when they had the enforcers fight only enforcers option. It makes it more realistic.
-I liked it when you had the option to fight and hit the start button to start a fight. Now you cant help but fight if you hit somene with high aggression.
-Also you can never get into a fight in the 3rd period which is so lame. If your up 4 goals and the game is out of reach you should be able to get chippy and start a fight or 2.
-Especially after a goal and the coach puts out the 4th line, against the other 4th line, there should be a high possibility of a heavyweight fight at center ice to change the momentum as it happens in the real nhl.
-Goal horns should be realistic.
-Bring back the rivilrys like new york vs philly or NYR vs NYI to make games rougher and more intense.
-Give the players more control when fighting, so they can skate more around the ice during a square off. Some of the sequences are great but wish there was more control for the user.
-gary thorne and bill clement are the best commentators for the game and should be in it.
-when a player gets serioulsy injuried the play should be stopped and the medically team comes out.

Have a setting so you can decide how 'dirty' you want to play. Higher the score, the more likely you are to take penalties, get into fights, hit after the whistle.
Winning fights helps your team be recovering stamina.
Hitting after the whistle could reduce the opponents' stamina.
Taking penalties is bad, but playing dirty could goad your opponent into taking penalties.
This would also increase the number of injuries suffered by both teams, but more for the recipients.
On a side note, I like the idea of more fights happening as the game gets out of hand. Also, more than one fight could happen at a time. (Obviously you would have to deal with the sequentially, of have the player only deal with one fight and the computer deal with the rest.

Here's hoping that somebody sets some priorities. Improved gameplay, improved graphics, improved player control, better control system (2k8), ability to change the button map, elimination of the many glitches and the return of many lost features from NHL2k8 are WAY more important than adding elements to fighting. The option NOT TO FIGHT -- and thus draw a two-minute penalty -- should also be considered. Hockey is hockey .... fighting is a small and often insignificant part -- of the NHL game.

If 2K wanted to take a BIG chance, they might consider a controller scheme in which the gamer could control both his team and his goalie ... not just activate the goalie and then move it. Maybe press down on the right thumb stick to both activate and move the goalie. I know this is a bit of a drastic change but I'm afraid 2K is going to have to do something pretty innovative to get back into the videogame hockey marketplace in a meaningfull way,

You can keep crying about it all you want, but all the whining in the world won't change anything.

They are charging people 60 bucks, they should make the game value at least feel like its worth 60 bucks. i'm not attacking you personally because i think its fun, i'm doing it because frankly you brought it upon yourself. Look you need to grow up and see that people need to take responsibility for their actions. thats why general motors can humble themselves and point out their mistakes. they can apologize for it and work on fixing it. they realize the paying consumers drive their industry, if you tick them off, you end up having to beg the government for a bailout. do you really believe in your brain that if 2k were to screw it up next year, people would by the game? the nhl 2k series needs to stop trying to bring back stuff from their glory days of nhl 2k5 on the ps2 and try to innovate for the future.

Yeah, I'm the rich kid because I understand extenuating circumstances. You're taking this way too seriously. It's a video game, the company's in turmoil (in case you forgot, Take-Two was at risk of being bought outright by competitor EA, the devs didn't even know if they'd have jobs by the time the game went gold), and regardless the game still shows promise. It does some things well, so if it can straighten out the things 2K has traditionally done well while improving in areas where 2K9 is lacking, we're in for a nice game next year. You have no idea what progress 2K is making, so the only thing you can really complain about is the lack of communication. And like every other complaint here, it won't be of much use. Anyway, again, feel free to continue to use personal attacks against someone you know nothing about. It does a good job of demonstrating that you're not a kid. Really.

Just for a change of pace, I'd like to mention a few things I DO like about NHL2K9. The absence of a momentum factor is a huge plus in my opinion. I hated the big, red pulsating momentum meeter and then, later, the momentum factor was hidden but everybody knew it was still there. This year , 2K has let the gamers create their own shifts of momentum without some artificial force determining who is in control. In past years, if a player scored one goal, there was DEFINITELY a good chance that he would score one or more after that. It was a very poor and annoying attempt to replicate the momentum of a hockey game which, in my opinion, changes from one shift to the next and can't always be detected by the number of shots on goal, the number of hits or puck possession time. I also think 2Ks graphics have been a bit under-rated by some of the posting gamers here. Lately, I've been kind of switching back and forth between 2K8 (love those controls!). 2K9 and NHL09 and I know I am looking through an old man's eyes but I honestly don't see why the look of this year's game is being criticized quite so harshly. The colors in 09 (maybe it's my TV or the way I've tuned it) are almost unrealistically bright and shiney whereas the colors in 2k9 seem deeper and maybe a little truer. I also believe that the ratings in NHL2K9 have more of an impact on gameplay than they do in NHL09 and I like that. To my eye, there isn't really much of a speed burst factor in NHL09. The great skaters don't seem to move that much better or swiftly than the poor (by NHL standards) skaters and stickhandling skill isn't significantly built in but is almost completely a matter of the gamer's dexterity. I want Kovalev to be able to stickhandle more adroitly than Donald Brashear. Finally, the ability to control all 30 teams in season mode is something I enjoy and it is something you can't do in EA's dynasty mode. I hope this thread does not contribute to Roaddogg's anger management problem; I really believe he needs to take a chill pill and let people express opinions without feeling the need to criticize every one of them.

If the company you worked for had the potenetial of being bought out by a foriegn company, does that give you an excuse to not do the best you can at your job? i think not because it is in those times people work as hard as they will ever work to prove their worth to the new company. even if take two got bought out for 2 billion dollars, it really would be that serious. if you had investigated the matter in detail, ea was willing to put the best of both worlds together to create the ultimate product. nice job of coming back with the personal attacks. i like that, doing what you claim i'm doing. hey, say what you want but what doesn't change is that you keep making excuses. that was my point all along. why do you feel it necessary to take a burden thats not yours? seriously.

I struggle with a memory that has to cover 66 years and is not doing such a great job of it lately but I think it was three (or maybe four; there was one year where I switched from the XBox to the XBox360 in the middle of the season which adds to the confusion) years ago that there was this horrible, flashing red momentum indicator. Allegedly, you created this extra force/momentum by controlling the puck or getting shots on goal or delivering big hits or winning a fight (that really bugged me because I believe the impact of fights on a team is significantly over-rated). They took it off the screen the next year (I think there was this stupid heartbeat kind of sound associated with it at one time) and it diminished every year since then to the point where now, finally, it seems to be a non-factor or completely absent. Sorry I couldn't be more specific. I seem to remember things from the 70s better than I do from three or four years ago. If I had known that getting old was this annoying, I wouldn't have taken such good care of myself. In any case, I'm glad the game companies (EA has also eliminated the "momentum" concept) are letting the gamers create the ebb and flow of the game instead of creating artificial forces. If you have the puck most of the time, THAT REALLY IS MOMENTUM and you don't need some stupid red light flashing to tell you about it.

I think that injuries in online seasons would be kinda unfair. The injuries in 2K are totally random and if your best players just repeatedly get 4 month injuries while other players have no injuries what so ever would be kinda cheap. I've also heard that there's a way to check someone so that they always get injured. I don't know if its true or not but if it is it would make injuries in online leagues cause for a lot of anger. If they could fix that glitch (assuming it exists) and make injuries less random (I once had a player injured TAKING A FACEOFF) then it would be an excellent idea to include injuries in online play.
macpuck
January 23rd, 2009, 01:32 PM
Injuries should be at least partially based on the durability rating of players and should NOT be completely random. That is one problem that would have to be overcome before an injuries "on" option for season play is considered. In addition to having injuries be an on-off option (obviously, you don't want to lose those gamers who prefer not to have injuries as a part of their season) for season play, there should be an (injury) frequencey slider and an injury extent (length of time out of the lineup) slider so that the league admin and members can have some control as to how much impact the injuries will have._Obviously, if there is a way to check somebody (other than hitting them very, very, very hard, combined with a low durability rating)) to insure an injury, it is another glitch that has to be eliminated. Adding injuries would change strategy in terms of drafting (if a fantasy draft comes back), trading and increase the importance of the depth players for your roster. It would add versatility, an element that hasn't been available before ... and 2K definitely should be looking for ways to enhance its product.

NHL 2K9 was not a bad game. its just not as good as EA sports NHL 09. MY IDEAS ARE:
-Have an "Owners" mode, where you are the president of an team and you have to buy a team, design an arena set ticket prices etc...
-Have a similar mode as EA's BE A PRO MODE.
-Bring back the skills competition.
-Better graphics an on all consoles, especially WII.
-Online mode.
-Have more realisitic pre-game intros, and crowd chants.
-GET NEW COMMENTATORS....What ever happened to Bob Cole & Harry Neale?
-Better Presentaion ( crowd models arena screen etc...).
-REALISTIC AI.
P.S. 2K SPORTS has always been better than EA, but in the last 2 years EA has stollen the crown. You need to get it back and I believe if you follow my suggestions you CAN get it back.

Those are all excellent ideas, what if they incorporated your "owners mode" as a part of franchise that could be put on/off at the beginning of each season (ie: at the beginning/beginning of each season, the game asks "Would you like to take on the roles of Team Owner for the duration of this season?")

- better fighting; blood, move around, more types of punches
- fantasy draft for franchise
- bring back controlls from previous games so poeple can play with what they want
Online

- lobby
- the ability to have two people play online on the same console (you cant do that in 2k9 right?)

If the company you worked for had the potenetial of being bought out by a foriegn company, does that give you an excuse to not do the best you can at your job? i think not because it is in those times people work as hard as they will ever work to prove their worth to the new company. even if take two got bought out for 2 billion dollars, it really would be that serious. if you had investigated the matter in detail, ea was willing to put the best of both worlds together to create the ultimate product. nice job of coming back with the personal attacks. i like that, doing what you claim i'm doing. hey, say what you want but what doesn't change is that you keep making excuses. that was my point all along. why do you feel it necessary to take a burden thats not yours? seriously.
Yes, the employees would do the best they could, and I strongly believe that the programmers at VC gave an honest effort to make 2K9 the best game they could. More importantly, they wanted to make the best foundation for the future of the franchise. Now, take that same company at risk of being bought out and cut the budget. They need to cut expenses to remain profitable and persuade shareholders not to sell before their big money-making product (GTA IV, though the takeover threat hung around until after its release) can help ease budget constraints.
Would the company be able to compete with the same competitor that has a significantly larger budget, many more employees doing the same job a few are doing at your company, working directly on the progress of the previous year's product, and having twice as long to work on this year's? You'd honestly be surprised and upset when the result isn't stellar?
2K9 is fine for what it is. The sooner you understand that, the sooner you can move on with your life.
You have 226 replies from us ... how about some feedback from 2K? What are you working on? What suggestions might you act on? Is this just a one-way street or what?
2K9 is full of fan suggestions. VC has listened, why wouldn't they also listen for next year's game?
As for responses, maybe over the summer when they start hyping it a bit. You can't honestly even almost expect anything until then.

Hey, Roaddogg ... Perhaps you could take some time out from your constant apologizing for 2K and give us some insight on YOUR ideas for making 2K10 a better, more successfull product. Since you are so all-knowing, what do you think about lobbies, control schemes, drafts, flexibility, network failures, glitches, optional features, roster updates, player ratings, etc.? ... And, after you have expressed your opinions, you could always choose to create another thread about why you are being too critical and that 2K couldn't possibly accomplish all your suggestions because of all the difficulties they face.

I think of 2K8 as Halo (only not as good, obviously). Great game, I loved it, but I still had plenty of requests for the sequel to be better. Was I complaining and calling the game crap? No, I just felt that my suggestions would make for a better game, and I made a wishlist to compile them all in one spot. I did that for 2K8. Then Halo 2 came out and really took the series in the wrong direction. They catered to the wrong fan and stabbed their core audience in the back by vying for the dollars of the masses. 2K9 is exactly that, only instead of Bungie working on it, it would be someone like Ensemble making an FPS for the first time.
Because the sequel's so different from the game I really liked, I'm less interested in the series. So my wishlist still applies, but it's from a 2K8 perspective. As for starting another thread of why I'm too critical, it wouldn't apply because I wouldn't be making ridiculous demands and ultimatums towards 2K when I posted my wishes. I don't pretend to have any power over 2K and I'm not a shareholder, so I have no influence aside from my buying power and any kind of helpful posts I provide for the dev team here. So I try to be reasonable to the fans frothing at the mouth at 2K for not making a better game than 09 when it was their first crack at a hockey game with half a development cycle, a smaller dev team, a fraction of the budget, and were under the task of starting mostly from scratch where EA's dev team had to deal with none of those problems.
They still took a lot of suggestions from players and provided us with some amazing online league tools while they were at it. Anyway, don't know where I'm going with this anymore and I gotta go to work. Have a nice day.

I was hoping for a stream of innovative ideas and suggestions but I guess you were on your way to work and in a bit of a hurry. I'd really be interested in your opinion of what direction 2K should be going with NHL2k10.

Ehm... have a look at the list in Roaddoggs signature. He was and is one of those giving the most suggestions on this and other boards.

NHL 2K9 is good but could be better.
-There is to much hitting. We could have a little less.
-Create A Team,Create A Arena and Create a player would be nice.
-Better goalie control.
-Better team celebrations and fan celebrations after goals.
-Better franchise mode.Have AHL teams to call up/send down players.
-Ability to move a team to another city.
Overall the game is great!!!!!!!

Like I said, 2K9 is my Halo 2. I'm quite apathetic towards the series now thanks to this game. I really stopped caring a great deal about the series (still played it, as it was the best FPS with enough people playing to find a game in reasonable time, but it was just a terrible entry into the series as far as I cared) until news about the cool stuff that was happening with Halo 3 drew me back in (and reality again hit me unkindly). I play 2K9 from time to time (it's actually been a few weeks now), but I think it'll take news about 2K10 to really get me interested enough to revise my wishlist from a perspective other than how to improve 2K8.
I may just force myself to sit down and re-write every section to be more relevant, but by the time I do it would be too late in the dev cycle anyway. Meh.
Grandmaster D, thanks for the support. I appreciate it.

I think that the All-Star Skills competition MUST be put back! If it's too much to put in the game get rid of "Mini-Rink" or "Practice Game", no one gives a s--t about those modes!

These people do not care about what you think! They have not listened for years. Nhl 2k employees and RON simply don't care. Keep on falling for it, they laed you on , then steal your money next year too.

That's what you think, and you're entitled to your opinion. I for one will continue to post my ideas in the hopes that 2K will listen to them and the game can benefit from them.

I'm not so sure 2K is in a position not to care about its dwindling number of NHL customers or to listen to at least some of what they are saying. 2K is at a tipping point with its NHL game; if next season's game is not received a LOT better than this year's diminished failure, they will probably have to admit defeat and abandon the product completely. I can't begin to guess how 2K made so many foolish errors in the changeover from Kush to VC -- I assume they were rushed but that doesn't explain all of the failures and carelessness -- but I think we can assume they understand that they are in trouble. This is probably their last chance to listen and learn from their mistakes. I wonder, however, if they have disappointed (and ripped off) too many hockey fans over the last two seasons to still have a legit chance to make a comeback ... even if they do come up with a much better product in NHL2k10. Consumer trust is a fragile element; 2K has damaged it severely.

4.Post game interviews like NFL2k5 Best thing ever. and you guys did this in 2004-05 on a lower platform.

I would imagine that the "living rosters" feature is one that would almost have to be included for NHL2k10 ... hockey fans are used to getting the short end of the (hockey) stick but a year AFTER all the features were paraded out for NBA2k9, I doubt that even 2K would try to sucker the hockey fans a second year in a row ... I think the best 2K can hope for is that a lot of people rent the game (who is going to buy it without trying it after the failures of the last years?) in the fall and that a lot of them decide that 2K has, belatedly, gotten its hockey act together. It's still going to be a hard sell but I would imagine that some of the elements that have been successfull in NBA2k9 will be applied to NHL2k10. Despite a lot of complaints on the NBA2k10 forum, that game is selling well and so. maybe ... maybe ... maybe ... who knows? Given the very poor NHL2k9 sales figures, I would guess that this will be 2K's last chance to get back into the game.

MLB 2K9 looks good, VC took that off Kush's hands and did so with time for a real dev cycle. Living rosters will be supported, too. Can't imagine that 2K10 will bear more than a passing resemblance to 2K9. I hope they bring back some of the better stuff from the series' past, though.

mlb 2k9 does look good, the least we owe VC is too give them a chance this year, it will be their second year and it looks like 2 is the magic number for them. the got nba to the top in two years so we'll see.
