NFL2K8 Season II:
We have 18 that have expressed an interest, if everyone does not sign up promptly, we may go with the first 16 teams that post.
NFL2K8 is an active NFL sim league. It is expected that each member will play 3 games per week every week and attempt to finish all 16 games in the season win or lose. If you find yourself out of the playoff race, use the games to practice and experiment in a competitive league environment. That's how you can improve! If you cannot play 3 games per week every week and will not strive to complete all 16 games, please do not join this league.
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc73/tjspeaks/1logo.jpg
This is a sim league. Please read the rules below. By joining the league you agree to abide by the rules. If you disagree with the rules or cannot follow them, please do not join this league. There are a few changes... everyone please review the rules (note punting rules and banned plays).
You must use accurate uniforms for your NFL teams (there are codes available in the forum). Make sure your road uniform has white jerseys and your home uniform jerseys are not white.
All players must be on the NFL team 2008 roster and have proper height, weight, number etc.
There is no team validation. Build your NFL team with the players you want at the tier you want. There are some abilities restrictions as follows:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
TEAM BUILD GUIDELINES:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Gold players will be 3 abilities (no 4 or 5 ability CAPs)
The following Attributes/Combinations may NOT be used:
Route God
Workhorse
Branching tackles
Speed Burner + Breakaway Burst (you can choose 1)
Cadence
Signal Stealer
Stamina
Speed burner is limited to 1 player on offense and 1 player on defense
------------------------
League web page:
http://online.2ksports.com/league/index?p=360&t=APF2K8&l=34265
------------------------
The top two teams in each division head to the playoffs.

------------------------
Rules:
------------------------
the Hitman league rules apply (Just a few edits):
Game play:
1: Sportsmanship is a must. If your up big than run the ball and don't run the score up at all.
2: Replays are limited to 3 a half unless your opponent doesn't mind.
3: If you lose to some shady gameplay please take a day to reflect on it when your not so upset before you call someone out or send me a complaint. I will not consider your issue unless a day has passed.
4. You CAN NOT move more than 1 person manually at any time during a play on defense. You need to use in game adjustments like shade in, shade out, Press, & Cover Shells.
Substitutions:
O-Line are interchangeable
D-Line are Interchangeable
LB are Interchangeable and LB's with a Pass Rush Attribute like Sack Master or Pass Rush can play DE in Nickle and Dime Packages.
CB, FS, & SS are all interchangeble and can play any secondary position.
RB's & FB's are interchangeable. FB's can play as TE ala Chris Cooley.
TE's can only play at TE & WR
WR's can only play as a WR
There no 2 way players allowed at all so don't ask.
PUNTING RULES:
We will reuse Brownster14's punting rules which simplifies punting decisions to a 'yes' or 'no'.
Rule 1. A team may go for it on 4th down and inches at any time in the game, whether they are leading, tied, or trailing.
Rule 2. A team may go for it on 4th down and 1 yard if they are past the 50 and inside their opponents territory, at any time in the game, whether they are leading, tied, or trailing.
Rule 3. A team may go for it on 4th down and any number of yards if the line of scrimmage is on their opponents 40 or less.
Rule 4. A team may go for it on 4th down and any number of yards from anywhere on the field if they are trailing in the 4th quarter by any amount.
Rule 5. A team may go for it on 4th down if it's the end of the 2nd quarter and time will expire on the last play.
Rule 6. A team may go for it on 4th down regardless of yards to go or location if it's under 2 minutes in the 4th quarter.
Rule 7. A team must punt the ball or kick a field goal if it is 4th down and Rules #1 through Rule #6 do not apply.
Blitzing:
1: 5-2 Middle LB Blitz is legal since it can be countered. Shotgun Formation, Flat to RB, Slant pass, Max Protect with RB's staying in to block, PA roll outs can counter this blitz well.
2: Secondary players blitzing can be done as much as you want as long as you are not manually controlling them at anytime during the blitz.
3: LB's can be used manually to blitz but can not move closer to line of scrimmage than they are already automatically set at.
Defensive Lineman:
1: You can use any D-Lineman but you can not use the DE to run a stunt and come in untouched at all. This is a known glitch in the game.
2: You can not move a D-Lineman manually at all whether your moving him off the line or back and into coverage before the snap of the ball.
3: D-Lineman special moves like Swim, Rip, Club, Bull Rush, and Spin are allowed and are encouraged for you to use since it is part of the game.
Motion Running:
1: You can use motion running as long as the guy you motion clears the end of the line whether it is the Tackle or TE.
2: You can not hike the ball unless your guy has cleared the end of the last person on your O-Line.
Bump Man 2 Man defense:
1: You can play this as much as you want.
2: To counter Bump man you are allowed to put your WR in motion and can snap the ball only when your WR is set 100% to get off the bump like a real NFL team would do. You do not have to wait for the CB to be set but you must allow the CB to at least get in front of the WR.
3: You can also motion your WR off the line of scrimmage to get him a free release off the line by him backing off of the LOS.
Screen passes:
1: You can not run one way and throw back the other way on a screen pass because the camera will be cut off to the point where you can not see the RB to manually cover him.
2: You are allowed 3 screen passes a half so use them wisely.
Routes:
1: Out Routes, Middle post, Double move post should all be used in moderation. I will not ban these routes because there are ways to defend everyone of them even if you like it or not. If the out route and the hot route fade pattern is all your opponent has in his offensive arsenal than you should be able to defend it pretty easy. If you need help learning how to defend these plays or plays that work against them than let me know. Here are a few.
Defending the out route:
1: Shade your CB's to the out side in man 2 man.
2: Cover 2 Hard for short out routes with your CB's shaded to the outside.
3: Cover 2 soft for the deeper out routes with your CB's shaded to the outside.
4: Manually jumping the route and defending it.
Defending the Middle post:
1: Hot zone your safety to cover the middle of the field.
2: Hot zone your ILB to cover the deep middle.
3: Manually jumping the route and defending it.
Defending the Double Move route:
1: Cover 12
2: Manually jumping the route and defending it.
All of these issues are not as huge if you have a pass rush.
Banned plays:
1: Cadence
2: Bunny Hopping
3: Switching defenders in a Flickering kind of way as fast as you can to confuse blockers.
4: Kickoffs can not be kicked off to the side of the field to stop return man from getting to the ball at all. If you don't want him to return it than kick it out of bounds without it hitting the ground. You must kick it down the middle, slightly to the left or right.
5: Punting can not be punted short for the purpose of a muffed punt because you can not take control of your player to stop him from going for the punt.
6. No quick snapping allowed.
7. You can use the QB punt, but you must decline any roughing the kicker penalties.
8. The hot corner route (using the outside WR) is banned in this league.
League issues
1: You can not quit for any reason at all.
2: If there is an issue with game play contact an admin a day after your game has passed.
3: No negative feedback can be given at anytime.

Really guys? Joe Flacco a silver, Seneca Wallace a gold? Falcons with 2 Gold RBs? Shockely instead of Ryan? What's going on here?
Look I understand you all want to win and that we could all nit-pick our CAPs if we wanted, but at least try to create CAPs with some bit of realism.

"There is no team validation. Build your NFL team with the players you want at the tier you want."
It can take weeks to validate all the teams. We wanted to give guys the flexibility to play with their favorite NFL team (if available), with their favorite players and with a team build they can live with. We don't want to substitute fun for realism in this league. It is a game.
You may be hard pressed to find any NFL QB that does not have arm strength and accuracy.... or they won't be around long. Any 1st or 2nd string NFL QB may be a 'silver' (2 abilities).

I guess I am missing the point ElGreazy. You can select any player you want and their abilities. It's the same for both of us. Where is the advantage in the rules for anyone? Having strict ability guidelines for players is fine, I play in other leagues that have it and it is no problem. However, many just go find a team with the top players in the place they like to have them (e.g. gold HB or gold WR etc.). Why not allow a person to have fun and play with his favorite team (and favorite players) and build a team the way he wants? That's what is done in most leagues... you build the team the way you want and have fun.

True enough...and everyone here is responsible in their play styles. plus the 3 CAP golds greatily reduces the "superman" factor, and makes things even for everyone.

I'm just wondering why there was no complaint last season. There were a handful of players that you could argue were not truly gold tier players, but no one took issue.
Really as long as everyone knows up front its not a big deal. Most people are pretty honest with the players for "their" team. You may have a few players in a wrong tier, but even then the abilities seem honest.

Well would it be any different if I replaced some players on my Seahawks with player that deserve there tier?
No one would argue that Hasselbeck could be a Gold and Deion Branch and bobby Engram could be Silvers. All I did was go with what I was feeling right now. Hasselbeck has ****ed me off with his game play this season along with his bruised kneee that is keeping him out after he got his WR's back. Jordan Kent is an Oregon product so I wanted him more than Branch who is always hurt and Nate Burleson is a Seattle Native.
This is my reason for it though I dont need one. If you notice I have Jordan Kent and Seneca Wallace in NFLP new season.

I was thinking that but I've never really seen him give out stiff arms. Norwood gives out more stiff arms than Turner.
I'm like 96% sure I'm going to go with battering ram because Turner runs thru a lot of tackles and he runs low, wich is exactly what you do when you execute a shoulder charge.
Actually yeah I'm officially going to go with battering ram for #33's final ability.

Your team looks good except that Route God and Branching Tackles are banned attributes for players. Pick some different attributes for L.T. and Vincent Jackson.
The attribute of Finesse & Power is a watered down version of those moves. Not very good but it is up to you. That was just my opinion on Finesse & Power.

TE's in the NFL lineup in the backfield a lot especially in power run formations. Players like Chris Cooley lineup in the backfield all the time to try and get mismatches on coverages. They can go in to motion and go either way or stay in back field and run a route from there. They also lineup as a FB to Block. Leonard Weaver for the Seahawks was a TE and Seattle made him as a FB when Mack Strong retired but he plays both. Any TE can be lined up at FB.

Per El Greazy's suggestion, we have divided into divisons and conferences. The top 2 teams from each divison will make the playoffs regardless of win/loss records. You must win your conference to make it to the Super Bowl. We will take the default regular season schedule and not edit for divison games x 2 (home and away).

LT now just has finessethanks

Per El Greazy's suggestion, we have divided into divisons and conferences. The top 2 teams from each division will make the playoffs regardless of win/loss records. AFC seed #1 will play AFC seed #6 etc. 'Most games played' will be awarded home field advantage. You must win your conference to make it to the Super Bowl. We will take the default regular season schedule and not edit for divison games x 2 (home and away).
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc73/tjspeaks/1-28.jpg
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Get your team ready (remember correct height, weight, number etc. and accurate uniforms). We will have the league name and password ready this evening. We would like everyone to join the league no later than Friday so games can start this weekend. You will have one week (until next Saturday night) to get your first three games in.

Comment/Suggestion: Now that you added divisions, I dont see how you can't schedule a couple of games against our division opponents.
How are tie breakers going to be determined if you only taking the top 2 from each division?
I understand it might be a lot of work to get the schedule completed but your so close on making this some what realistic of an NFL season.

Too much work
The default schedule should have each team play every other team one time (and one team 2x). It is more interesting playing different opponents than playing several teams 2x each.
Tiebreakers (without the need for a calculator):
1) Who won the head to head match?
2) Who beat the highest rated opponent?
3) Who lost to the lowest rated opponent?
If the default schedule goes as planned, in most cases, you only need tiebreaker #1. This makes every regular season game very important (just like in the NFL).

NFL2K8 is ready for you to join.
Legend difficulty
6 minute quarters
Field goal arrow will move
16 teams - 8 teams make the playoffs (top 2 teams in each division regardless of records)
NFL2K8 is an active NFL sim league. It is expected that each member will play 3 games per week every week and attempt to finish all 16 games win or lose. If you find yourself out of the playoff race, use the games to practice and experiment in a competitive league environment. That's how you can improve and get ready for next season/other leagues! If you cannot play 3 games per week every week and strive to complete all 16 games, please do not join this league.
This is a sim league. Please read the rules in post #1. By joining the league you agree to abide by the rules. If you disagree with the rules or cannot follow them, please do not join this league. There are a few changes... everyone please review the rules (note punting rules and banned plays).
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc73/tjspeaks/1logo.jpg
Uniforms and players (number, height, weight, etc.) should be accurate. Away jerseys are white. Home jerseys are never white.
Please post your team when everything is accurate and set. Please make any depth chart changes and substitutions before you join.
League name: NFL2K8 S2
Password: NFL
The season will kickoff after everyone has joined. Please setup your team and join now.

You can move your LB's up using normal game adjustments. You can move your safeties all the way up to the line by calling a cover1 shell without manually touching them at all. If you play me I can guarantee that because you got an Gold RB you will see my safety on the line almost every down. You can use your LB's manually but you can not take them manually and closer to the line than they would be normally. Once the ball is snapped feel free to manually blitz your LB.
rayaman you can not give negative feedback in this league. Please don't do it again.
Benedictine there is no reason for you to be late hitting anyone. If you do this because you think in this league they shouldn't accept and late hit penalties than your wrong.

Lol
Ray how is this cheesing?
You never seen a football team bring the safety into the box? You should expected it seeing that you have a gold RB and TE.
The late hitting has no effect on the game. However, you calling punt on 1st and 10 because your down 21-0 is childish.
Thanks for the neg rep rating btw.
what was running your dbs in circles around your outside linebacker ive never seen that in the nfl

NFL2K8 is a fun sim league. However, you will be dropped from the league (without notice) and not invited back if:
1) You do not maintain your '3 games per week - attempt to finish all 16 games' commitment.
2) Mods receive multiple rules violations/poor sportsmanship messages concerning you.
3) You 'retire' from APF2K8.
so... have fun, play sim and be a good sport.
If you find yourself out of a game or out of the playoff race, that is an excellent time to improve. Try some new plays, experiment with different defenses and discover your secret weapon generic players. Get better for next season/other leagues.

I think it's fair to say, that my D is decent against the run, but the pass in another story. 8 games, and I've given up One 100 yard rushing game... none above 80 and mostly all are below 50. I was playing benedictine and he moves everyone manually on defense all over the field. He also manually brought his CB up to the line of scrimmage right next to my Right Tackle to blitz. He did not blitz but pulled back in to coverage. My point is that in a SIM league with SIM rules you shouldn't be moving your whole defense around manually. Call the right play, Use in game adjustments or don't join SIM leagues.

I only move my FS, SS, and Nickleback depending on the formation. The nickleback may line up over the TE depending on the formation. I stoped doing this in the 2nd half. I was only moving 1 saftey.
I want to point out that when you started moving both Fs and SS into the box, I was still able to have an effective offense.

It is not about you or I having an effective offense. It is about what is considered SIM or not SIM. Everyone who plays me knows I dont move multiple players on defense but I did do it this game to give you a taste of what you are doing. I never discounted your skill or stick skills. tjspeaks why isn't there a rule in this league about moving everyone around on defense? You posted you use my rules yet they that rule is not in it?
I have not removed any rules regarding moving defensive players. Here are the rules addressing this:
Blitzing:
LB's can be used manually to blitz but can not move closer to line of scrimmage.
Defensive Lineman:
1: You can use any D-Lineman but you can not use the DE to run a stunt and come in untouched at all. This is a known glitch in the game.
2: You can not move a D-Lineman manually at all whether your moving him off the line or back and into coverage before the snap of the ball.
Are we missing one of your rules? Do we need to add one to address? We are using your rules so add/edit as you wish.

We like getting new gamers into the league to keep things fresh and there is always an adjustment time to align with league rules and acceptable gameplay. You may have to make that adjustment before every game. Sometimes when you change it in the league menu, it doesn't save it.

ther is no such thing as illegal formation on defense, therefore; you can move any of your secondary anywhere... This causes for more open gaps most of the time anyways so why complain?? Get a better offense...

You are not in this league so your in put is not even worth noting. Nobody said anything about illegal formations, It was in my rules from the beginning and somehow got erased. It was added back again.
So therefore you can move anyone you want in your leagues not this one.

Thanks for pointing this out, I like to breakdown numbers. Here are some facts about what you posted:
Looking at the last 10/28 games:
Against Hawks you had 2 REC but both were TD= 14 pts
Not saying you couldnt score with someone else or in another play but you defeated Hitman 33-17, take away 14 pts its 19-17
Against Sharks you had 1 REC but for a TD= 7 pts
Again not saying you couldn't of score with another play or player plus the most stupid fumble I had for a TD, I even dove on the ground to avoid the turn over and still happen its 38-24 take away 7 pts 31-24.
On both games you could of said but yeah it wouldnt made a difference but it does, because of the score I had to change my gameplan and abandon my running game and start throwing, possibly the same with Hitman, either way the scores had an effect on the game.

My fault miss counted my count since its not lined up correctly on your post, but you get the point. You got skills man, I haven't seen anyone with manual abilities the way you have in coverage. Its like momentum doesn't affect your play at all.

On offense it does. I start to make a lot of mistakes. If I did not score after throwing that INT for a TD. It would have been a different game. The FG at the end of the half was huge. The fumble for a TD was not realistic, but was sorta the nail in the coffin.

I am fine with a reset.
However, looking at stats of other generic TEs stats vs Isom I may have had more success with a generic TE in that spot. I do not know how many receptions Isom had when lined up as a TE or as a slot Rec.

Rule reminder:
1: You can use motion running as long as the guy you motion clears the end of the line whether it is the Tackle or TE.
2: You can not hike the ball unless your guy has cleared the end of the last person on your O-Line.
Obviously, this same courtesy applies to passing, if you switch sides with a WR (either manually or flipping the play), you must allow the defense to adjust (bring the cover man to the other side of the field or reassign coverage).
HITMAN, should this be added? I have seen this in 2 recent games. Any of us could win every game if we switch WRs to the other side and snap the ball before they are covered.

Saints on the Rise
After a shaky start and battling injuries, the Saints have won four in a row. The Saints were about to lose to the Ravens as time was running down and Baltimore was preparing for a game winning field gaol kick inside the 25 yard line. As K Matt Stover was warming up, usually sure handed WR Derrick Mason fumbled the 1st down completion. Coach T. Paterniti stated, "Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good."

I'm not talking about the playoffs. I'm talking about the grouping of teams in the division. Bears, Packers, Giants and Cowboys make sense. Along with Saints, Cardinals, Seahawks and Falcons. That seems more realistic to me.

One league rule addition (common in other leagues)
Gameplay:
5. You can go for 2 points only when an NFL coach would go for it. It must make sense mathmatically (when 2 points would get you within 3 or 7, etc.) You can take the risk and go for 2 points to win the game at the end.

After the loss to the Saints, Edgerinn James was quoted about his lack of carries,
"I don't know what's going on," he said. "I'm just here, just going to ride it out and get to the playoffs and, hey, that may be it right there."
I don't want to just be on a team; I like to play," he said. "If I'm not playing, it's not serving a purpose. What purpose is it serving? I don't want to feel like I'm selfish but you want to play.
"Hey, I still got years in me, I know that. I can still play some ball. I ain't worried."

Im not complaining and it HAS been two days just thought id bring it up. in my mind a wins a win and a lose is a lose so i lost. but the dolphins had a outside fade route called just think you should watch for it. it wasnt the outside wr i think but it was a pivotal point in the game so... if it wasnt bull i apoligize but it did look suspisious.

I will be on soon and I remember your stick skills and how good they were but I want you to know this before we play. I noticed in our game when you had a lot of yards rushing that it seemed your RB's charge never went away. I could be wrong but when we play and I see you make a move with your RB and your charge is still there than I know you are using a Turbo Controller. Why do I say this????? It is the first time I have ever seen somebody be able to make so many moves with there RB while there charge is still full. Once you make a move with a RB in this game your Charge will go away until you recharge them but it seemed that your RB's had a full charge no matter how many moves you made. If you are not using a Turbo Controller and just have sick stick skills I will give you your props but if you have a run with multiple moves I will be replaying it to see what your charge meter is showing.

In 2K5 you didn't have a Circle under showing your charge. In this game once you make a move while you are charged than the charge will go away until you recharge it. When someone can make multiple moves while still having a full charge leaves only 1 option.

Hitman, I think you have it backwards. I dont see how having turbo contoller will allow you to keep you fully charge, it should be the other way around. A person with a turbo controller will hardly have his man charge. He will be able to move like the wind and make ridiculous runs on coverage and on offense without being charge. The reason why is the constant tapping A button making the runner run faster and move quicker. Thats how I base it if I am facing a person with a turbo controller. You can also tell by the consistant tap of the player going down field, its tough to duplicate it every play.

I'd be pretty ****ed if i was Benedictine. Someone half-*** accusing me of using turbo.
I never suspected anything like that. The comparison i was making with this and 2k5 was that in 2k5 there was a overall paranoia of the turbo controller before the game died.

Its one of the best complements I have ever gotten in this game. But, not better than the 2k5 days when I would get messages from opponents about Emmit smith/Marshall Shipp running all over the field with a terrible cardinals team.

When we played last night and you won what did I say after? I said GG. I saw that it didn't look like you were using anything illegal but you had great stick skills with your running game. The difference between you and somebody like Funky is that you can run with a Silver RB and I am sure with a bronze and be successful out of all formations. Funky has to use the crutch of a Gold RB and run out of 3 TE bunch sets LOL. He has no moves except pressing the A Button when getting tackled to Branch tackles. You on the other hand are very elusive and have more moves than U-Haul. I have great respect of your stick skills andd your running ability but I have ZERO respect for Funky's.
