I just had to make a comment about the game to see if others felt the same way. I have been playing hockey games for years and have played many good and bad ones. I like the game its alot of fun and good gameplay so i have no problem with any of that. I jut cant figure out this color commentary.. like how can a company making a videogame add commentary that is never said in a real hockey game.. like "u realy nail em' when u lead with the shoulder".. or "this aint a game for sissies".. "what a hit with that shoulder-cap"... many others are said that i cant believe were included.. not to mention that they are repeated constantly on any decent hit.. no variety.. I have been watching for 20 years and have never heard anyone mention a shoulder-hit or shoulder-cap.. because those things are a given.. u dont hit with anything else do u.. these games cost millions of dollars and they must have guys producing them that have never watched a game of hockey.. in the next game actually watch some hockey and keep it simple for the color commentary..

i totally agree with you. they say the most random things sometimes that are never even said in a real hockey game. it especially gets annoying when it is repeated over and over again. BUT i did like the idea that they used some real commentators like gary thorne and bill clement in the game, Rather than some Fake people that just make *** jokes every second. For the next game they should use SAM ROSEN!!

Regardless of who is saying the lines....
The obvious problem is the staff writers. It's not like Clement went in and said "Hey can I talk about the shoulder a lot!"
Note for Sega: Watch an NHL game and LISTEN to actual commentating.

If you've actually watched an ESPN hockeycast you'll realize they dont know what the **** they're talking about. They no so little about hockey but force hundreds of meaningless stats down your throat. The only good commentating you'll find is on CBC Hockey Night in Canada. Harry Neal and others are just awesome and have a great feel and knowledge of the game. If they could get CBC commentators somehow I'd be in heaven. ESPN should stick with games like baseball in which u can be a moron and still be able to call with ease as its just about reading a stat page.

Different people have different tastes.
I think getting the ESPN commentators was a great move. Adds to the ESPN Broadcast.
Of course Bill Clement is shoulder-hungry. I wonder why he ever said anything like that when they were recording that stuff.

I have noticed another weird thing. the commentary does not change when you switch ends between periods. When the period changes over the commentary continues as if i was on the same end of the ice as last period.

The ESPN announcers are terrible in real life. Its even worse now that they have Melrose. He was doing the Colorado/St Louis game last night.
Didn't Sega have Bob Cole and Harry Neale on the Dreamcast Hockey 3 years back???

Even funnier, the repetitive comments are actually what Gary Thorne is like! with 2:00 left in the game, he'll be talking about something that happened in the pregame warmups he's already mentioned 20 times. He has a one track mind, and little grasp of what's going on....I actually think Bill Clement could be good if paired with someone compotent. My favs have to be preds comentators Pete Weber and Terry Crips though.
Stick to baseball Gary...

It's refreshing to have commentators in a game who can actually pronounce names right. I don't know how many times in 2K4 and 2K5 you'd hear Gary Thorne butcher someone's last name. For someone that grew up with Hockey Night in Canada, it's pretty sweet to have Cole and Neale this year. Some people might think theyre too low key, but you hear them call a game in real life, and its more/less similar. I've heard some people rip the game's commentary as repetitive, but it's no worse than EA where you can hear Hughson and Simpson say the same lines 6 times in a row...

This is my favourite commentary in a hockey game, ever.

true true. I think they finally got the right commentators now, just need to change the scripts and make it more realistic.

I agree however I think they should get the greatest announcer of all time Peter Maher of the Calgary Flames. Nobody callsa game better.
