Can't install PC version - not related to missing serial

So I tried installing this thing:

First installed Steam from DVD - done
Next updated Steam online - done
As soon as I click on Setup, my DVD drive freezes. There is no activity at all but my processor is running at 100% (svchost.exe) while my hard drive and DVD are not working.

This is ridiculous, I don't even GET to the serial number request screen that people are having problems with.

I've tried everything. I uninstalled all the potential Virtual Drive managers - Alcohol 120%, PowerISO. Even updated the Microsoft C++ (vcredist_x86.exe) thing. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Steam 5 times already!

This is absolutely absurd. This Steam copy protection garbage is only discouraging paying customers from playing. Meanwhile, the hacked copy is out there freely distributed and people are having NO problems whatsoever.

I've never had a problem with installing any game. I build my own water cooling computers and am not a noob idiot. I've been looking forward to this game for 2 months and watching youtube gameplay videos every day. I need to play this ****** game! If someone can bail me out of this miserable state, you'll have my enormous gratitude.

I have almost the same problem. I actually activated the game, but then the install doesn't start and steam crashes (plus, it says there's an error in "generic host process whatever" and kicks me out of the internet).
I wish I could help you, but my thread hasn't received any answers...
I'm gonna try it onto another pc, but if it has the same problem I'm gonna bring it back to the store and try other ways to play this game. I'm sorry, but I did my job buying it, if Steam doesn't it's not my fault.
