ROOKIE SCOUTING REPORTS

QBs

Carter Cunningham 6’4 227 UNLV (Age 22)
Athletic Scrambler

Positives: Prototype size for the position. Smooth footwork and set-up. Good short- and medium-range accuracy. Good overall athletic ability can buy time in the pocket and has the speed and elusiveness to gain yards as a scrambler.
Negatives: Lacks poise when facing a heavy rush. Stares down his primary target and trusts his own arm and the athleticism of his receivers too much, resulting in some terrible decisions. ... Not a natural leader. Adequate arm strength for the short- and medium-range, but lacks the arm strength to consistently place deep passes with accuracy. Lacks instincts on the move, but is an athletic runner.
(Speed Burner, Scrambler, Quick Feet, Laser Arm, Pass Threat)

6’6 238
A.J. Goodwin Texas Tech (Age 23)
Well Rounded QB
Positives: Exceptional size, and rare athleticism for the quarterback position. Good strength and surprising elusiveness for a player his size to buy time in the pocket or scramble, if needed. ... Great poise in the pocket does a good job keeping his eyes downfield. Makes his progressions and throws to the open receiver. Has the arm strength to make every NFLP throw. Was a four-year starter, and team captain.
Negatives: Raw talent struggles with consistency. Perfectly suited to the Techs offensive scheme due to his size, arm and athleticism and will need developmental time to acclimate to an NFLP offense. Forces throws into tight spots from time to time. A gunslinger mentality.
(Scrambler, Rocket Arm, Leadership, Strength, Pocket Presense)

5’10 212
Jackson Supernaw Miami (Ohio) Age 21
Classic Pocket Passer
Positives: Below average size for the position. Strong arm, he can easily make every NFLP throw. Has a quick set-up and even quicker delivery. Plays his best against toughest opponents, was 13-2 against top 25 during 3 years as a starter, including 3-0 in bowl games. Excels when running game is established.
Negatives: Inconsistent accuracy to all levels of the field, struggling with touch passes. ... Trusts his strong arm too much and will force passes into tight windows. Not very good when on the run.
(Clutch, Quick Release, Play Fake, Pocket Presense, Rocket Arm)

Halfbacks

6’ 200
Lenny Haynes Colorado (Age 22)
Shifty Homerun Hitter
Positives: Has excellent quickness and explosion coming out of his stance into the rush lanes. He has the sudden moves out of his stance to gain advantage and the quickness to avoid and accelerate past defenders. Hits the hole with no hesitation, showing the explosive leg drive to break arm tackles, has a low center of gravity, which allows him to keep his base moving through tight areas and does not need to gear down when cutting. When he keeps his pad level low going through the rush lane, he has the short-area explosion and juke moves to elude defenders turning the corner, as he excels at cutting sharply with good acceleration. One of his better assets is his ability to accelerate into the second level, redirect and break away for the long run. Adequate pass catcher who shows good concentration and flexibility in his pass routes, extending his hands properly away from the framework. As a kickoff returner he is creative enough to vary his speed, set up the defender, execute a fake and then accelerate into the open.
Negatives: Despite ability to run away from defenders he does not have top end speed. Not a powerful runner, tending to go down after first contact. Has soft hands but needs to refine his route running.

(Break Away Burst, Stamina, Cutback, Finesse, Soft Hands, Return Specialist)

Wide Receivers

6’6 220
Yancy Peterson Memphis (Age 23)
Tall Possession Receiver
Positives: Excellent leaping ability and timing to high-point the ball. Has large, soft hands, plucking the ball out of the air with his long fingers properly extended. He has the ability to keep his feet inbounds working the sideline and the flexibility to catch the over-the-shoulder passes.

Negatives: He struggles vs. the more physical cornerbacks to get off the line due to marginal upper-body strength in attempts to get a push off the jam. Not a sharp route runner, as he does take some soft angle cuts. Best on controlled or intermediate routes, as he lacks the timed speed to gobble up the cushion and get behind the speedy cornerbacks on deep routes.
(Hops, Soft Hands, Acrobatic Catches, Tough in Middle, Magic Feet, Possession)

Tight Ends

6’3 252
Tyler Jacoby OU (Age 21)
Receiving TE

Analysis
Positives: Hard worker in practices and in the training room, displaying impressive strength (has good power, but needs to show more desire to use it in his blocking technique). Has very good athletic ability and shows good explosion in his initial step off the snap. Can separate and stretch the field down the middle and shows the vision to locate the void and settle underneath. Has the timed speed to quickly run the seam, showing good timing in avoiding second-level defenders. After the catch he has the ability to make the first guy miss and has decent run-after-the-catch acceleration. Shows awareness and instincts in the passing game, but is best served when he aligns at multiple spots.
Negatives: Has marginal size for the classic tight end position and is best used in a move-oriented (H-Back) formation to get the best out of his ability. Much better receiver then blocker, but does have concentration lapses catching the ball, as he gets off-kilter when he hears footsteps closing on the play.
(Soft Hands, Possession Receiver, Quick Feet, Break Away Burst, Strength, Stamina)

6’5 235
Steven Winston Purdue (Age 22)
Speedy Receiver
Analysis
Positives: Rare combination of size and overall athleticism. Good foot quickness and downfield speed for the position. Flashes explosiveness out of his breaks to generate separation from the defender. Soft hands for the reception.

Negatives: Not the blocker his size and athleticism would lead you to believe. Inconsistent effort, marginal explosion at the point of attack and too often doesn't sustain. Should be stronger for his size.
(Speed Burner, Quick Feet, Soft Hands, Cutback, Break Away Burst, Magic Feet)

DEs

Dan Jackson (Age 22)
6-4, 260 Florida State
High Energy Pass Rush Specialist
5th year Senior, started for 3 years and finished with 27 career sacks, and 9 force fumbles
Pros
Knows how to get to the QB and has a great first step off the line. One of the quickest defensive linemen in the draft, knows how to use his speed to get off blocks. Knows how to finish and punish the QB, brings his best every down. Has great speed for a DE, faster than some LBs.
Cons
Is a little light for a DE in the NFL and can be a liability in run support, easy for bigger Offensive tackles to drive him out on run plays . Because he is so focused on getting to the QB he will over pursue on run plays, especially on draws and screens.
Abilities – Stamina, Quick Feet, Spin, Pass Rush Bonus, Sack Master, Ballstrip, Speed Burner

Marcus Simpson (Age 20)
6-6 290 Georgia
Great athlete can do it all has the tools to be among the best to play the position, played as a freshman and is a true junior. 131 career tackles

Pros
Physically he is among the best, great agility, good strength that he knows how to use and has an unnatural burst for a man his size to get the ball carrier. Has the size to be a great DE in a 3-4 line up and even line up as a 3 gap DT some in a 4-3 line up. With his tall size and long arms he will also disrupt passing lanes. When he gets a chance he will use his powerful hips to punish the ball carriers.
Cons
Really raw at this point in his career, relayed on his big athletic advantage to much and though he has some moves isn’t really developed as much as some when getting to the passer. Doesn’t have a high motor.
Abilities – Closing Speed, Quick Feet, Strength, Pass Rush Bonus, Big Hit, Club,

DTs

Leonard Allen (21)
6-0 340 Ohio St
Short and tough player, didn’t get much created but his play on the D-line allowed many Buckeye linebackers to excel
Pros
Knows how to use his size to his advantage by gaining great leverage, and tie up blockers. Faces constant double teams and gets his job down by doing that. When given the chance he will pressure the QB, and will pull the running back down even if he only gets one arm on him. Has the ability to play nose tackle and the 1 gap.
Cons
Doesn’t have great lateral movement or speed and it hurts him in pass rushing. Being short hurts and therefore can only put on so much weight before it starts to negatively affect his play.
Abilites – Run Coverage, Strength, Bull Rush, Rip, Reach Tackle, Wrap up Tackler

Tony Harris (20)
6-3 295 USC
A very quick DT who was one of the best to get after the quarterback for USC with 23 sacks in 3 seasons and 45 tackles for loss.
Pros
Quick, Disruptive and athletic, because of that he has to be accounted for every down. He knows how to get off his block and get to the QB. Will run down some running backs with his athleticism. Slower guards have trouble blocking him. Good at playing back side and running down plays from behind.
Cons
Tends to get swallowed up at the point of the attack on run plays. Doesn’t have the strength to hold up well vs double teams or the ability to play nose tackle consistently.
Abilities – Rip, Closing Speed, Pass Rush, Quick Feet, Club, Sack Master

LBs

Teddy Ryan (20)
6-4 247 Florida
Fast player, who will always be found around the ball, was a two time all American while with the Gators, has 123 tackles (6 sacks) and 141 tackles (8 sacks) his junior and senior seasons.
Pros – Was a running back in high school and it showed as he was often among the fastest on the field. He can read the play then use his speed to make it. Because of his speed he was often used on blitzes and because of his time spent biltizing the QB he has learned good how to get off blockers. Has the strength that all he needs to is to get one hand on the ball carrier and he has him.
Cons – Lacks great hip movement and tends to overrun plays in pass coverage. He can keep up with TEs and WRs but often has trouble finding the ball. Because of his speed he will sometimes take poor pursuit angles.
Abilities – Speed Burner, Run Reader, Pass Rush, Club, Closing Speed, Reach Tackle

Jack Supernaw (21)
6-3 253 Oklahoma
Smart player who burst on the scene as senior by winning the Butkus after being a career special teams player.
Pros – Was a tackling machine at OU and even though he only started one year his impact as a leader was easy to tell. He made a name for himself among OU fans his first 3 years as a big time special teams man who made big hits. He relays on his smarts and quickness to make the play and defenders rarely escape his grasp once he latches on.
Cons – Not fast and lacks the make up speed (along with technique) to be affective in man coverage. On some 3rd and longs he would be taken off the field as he doesn’t excel at pass rushing or coverage.
Abilities – Quick Feet, Wrap Up Tackler, Leadership Bonus, Special Teams Demon, Big Hit, Run Coverage

Nick Robinson (23)
6-3 270 Penn St
Continued the tradition of great ILBs at Penn St, an accomplish player who started 2 years with the Lions.
Pros – Very smart player, flies to the ball and makes plays. Helped the younger OLB line up his Senior year, fills holes well in run support. Also is a crafty pass rusher as he knows how to collapse the pocket and get off blocks when chasing the QB. Weight room wonder at the combo benching 225, 33 times.
Cons – Poor lateral movement and has trouble keeping up with quicker TEs. Even though he is one of the stronger players in the draft he won’t intimidate many players or make the game changing hit.
Abilities – Strength Bonus, Run Coverage, Closing Speed, Pass Rush, Rip, Wrap up Tackler

Jake Mills (21)
6-4 245 Boston College
Surprise performer his Senior year, more a finesse player at linebacker, he was tied for the team lead with 5 ints.
Pros
Is much better with the ball in the air, he will find the ball in flight and make a play on it. Is adequate in run coverage as he uses his combo of quickness of great speed to run down ball carriers. Only needs a hand on a player to make the tackle. Great motor.

Cons
Is tentative in run coverage, sometime shys away from contact and will try to out finesse a blocker rather then go head on. On the same note he won’t scare a RB or TE. Not very strong for a linebacker and looks lost when blitzing the QB.
Abilities – Speed Burner, Quick Feet, Reach Tackle, Coverage Bonus, Ballhawk, Stamina

CB

Logan Parker (22)
6-2, 213 (Auburn)
Tough corner who isn’t afraid to get his nose dirty
Pros
A throw back corner who would’ve fit best in the day of being able to bump a receiver all day. Strong player, knows how to fill running lanes when a runner bounces it outside. Has a risk reward tactic of letting a WR catch the ball then hitting him in attempt to knock the ball loose. Will close on the ball fast while it’s in flight or while an opponent has it.
Cons
Has stiff hits and even though he has good Speed it isn’t top flight. Sometime looks lost in zone and lacks the ability to consistently intercept the ball, will go for the safe knock down so he isn’t a playmaker at CB.
Abilities Coverage Bonus, Bump Master, Strength Bonus, Run Coverage, Big Hit, Closing Speed.

S

Max Peterson (21)
6-1 213 (Georgia A&M)
Big time athlete who grades and legal problems in High School cost him a shot at a big time school
Pros – Athletic, showed as he was the best on the field in Divison 2 and as he tore up the combine with eye popping numbers across the board. Great reaction times as he go to his top speed quickly, showed off his great Speed on kick returns as he set a school record with 7 kick return for TDs on his career. His amazing strength showed off on kick returns also as many times the first guy couldn’t bring him down. Also a playmaker on defense as he had 15 career INTs.
Cons – Still undisciplined in technique and ways off field. Because of that he was never a leader, also takes a lot or risk in coverage and will get burned. Takes off some plays and because will get in trouble in run pursuit.
Abilities – Speed Burner, Quick Feet, Strength, Hops, Return Specialists, Ballhawk

Thomas Smith (21)
6-2 229 Texas
Linebacker in Safeties body, punishing player.
Pros – Hits hard and hits often, also is great filling running lanes and chasing RBs. Has caused Gator arms many a times with his style of punishing receiver. Changes direction fast and is a few RBs or WRs are able to escape him in the open field.
Cons – Slow for a safety as he can be a problem if allowed to play center field by himself. Goes for the highlight reel hit too much in pass coverage. Won’t make many INTs either.
Abilities – Run Reader, Run Coverage, Big Hit, Footsteps, Quick Feet, Wrap up Tackler
