PC Fix for "This game is currently unvailable"

If you cannot get 2k9 for the PC to start in steam after you have successfully installed it and you get the dreaded "This game is currently unavailable." message, try the following fixes if you have Windows XP Home or Pro:

After installing, close out Steam. Check the system tray to be sure the Steam icon isn't present. If it is, right click it and click EXIT. I would suggest using Ctrl+Alt+Del to check if it is running under the Processes tab too.

-Click on your My Computer Icon on your desktop.
-GO to program Files...
-steam...
-SteamApps...
-Common...
-NBA2k9
-Installers...
Double click the "Vcred_x86" file and it will update Visual C++ files.

Then do the following...

1. Make sure Steam is still ogged out completely.

2. Find the folder that your NBA2K9 files were saved in after install. (Usually C:\Program FIlles\Steam\SteamApps\Common\NBA 2k9

3.Find the NBA2k9.exe file (mine is 69,736KB in size) and right click it and select Send to... Desktop.

4. Go back to your desktop, and be sure steam is still not logged in and double click your new icon to start the game.

5. It will automatically log you into steam without opening up the full Steam window and your game should start up in under a minute after you click "Launch."

Be sure to use this new icon you created each time you start the game.

Let me know if this doesn't work for you and I will suggest other methods, but these have been the most successful ones. Try both...

People outside of North America may be out of luck, at least with this fix anyway...

But for those of you in the U.S. or Canada, this should solve your problem.

i told u guys this game will be shet so just dont buy it. a game made in 2008 with no online play, demo, screenshots, videos is not a game worth your $20. now u guys cant even install the game and play offline lol. what a joke 2k is. alotta you guys are stack looking at the game cover lmao.:dance::dance::rotfl::rotfl:

I have been able to get past this problem, but now when I insert the game and click on play, I get some music, then odd shapes going across the screen. Then, the game stops and logs me off of my PC. I have no clue as to how to fix this problem. I have called 2k sports customer service and sent emails with no answers. Its been 2-3 weeks since I contacted them. Earlier today, I traded in my copy towards another one, but it still does the same thing. I am ticked off and feel like I wasted $20. I am pc challenged but I have read numerous issues on this site and steampowered.com with no answers.

Any idea what is causing this problem? I have been able to play my other pc games with no problem.

it's all going well since i'm trying to start the game, then the screen is going black and nothing happens. Do you have any ideas for that?

OH GOSH SOMEONE HELP US..i'm thinking dat it has smt to do with the graphics card man..but wtf even if i replace graphic card, the processor for the com may limit the performance! might as well replace whole com!...=.= GOSH..i do hope its not the graphics card but smt else like bug..haha ANY HELP? After doing all of the recommended steps above, I ended up having to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package to get the game to launch. Now I can search the rest of the threads to see if they can answer my gameplay questions...

thisis the fix i needed!!! after many hours of unsuccessful troubleshooting, this did it! I'm very happy now...thank you!!!

p.s. my OS is Windows 7 beta...so add that to the list of OSes that this fix works for!

I have to say though, the more and more trouble I end up getting into with games I buy, I'm starting to wonder what's the point when people just download warez and have the cracked version working in 5 sec.

Hey, all you have to do to install the official patch for Nba 2K9 is to install the Nba 2k9 PC game using the Steam software. Once you have you have installed the Steam software try to open up the game using the Steam software installed on your computer and the Steam software will automacally install the official Nba 2k9 PC game patch to your Nba 2k9 PC game. look guyz the only way 2 play the game is to download it usin a torrent software, but u will only play offline n will have 2 update it yrself
