I think we all are gonna be plesently suprised with what we get this year... nba 2k9 is just flawless in every aspect, from the every day roster update, to the crowd presentation, gameplay, and 5 star animations and graphics believe me its a winner. Now logic says we should get all this in mlb 2k9 right? i mean visual concepts is doing it so who knows. Maybe, MAybe not but u gotta look we are on the upswing definatly

Ha, OP basically described an entire baseball video game.
I agree completely though... 2K8 was underwhelming in almost every aspect. Although gameplay should be above all else, I think more realistic animations and graphics are a must. But I'm also a huge Franchise fan and I would practically crap my pants if they blew that out of the water with behind-the-scenes realism (although I doubt they will - nobody ever does).

Agreed, NBA 2k9 was sweet. I played that thing for 3 weeks straight and I dont like basketball all that much--mostly cause I play with the home team Bobcats. DOH!
People on here bash the **** out of 2k8, but I love it. The swing/pitch stick was a great idea and it made the game much more than just pushing buttons. Winning a game online now actually takes some skill.

What about sound of base pads like the way fox baseball does it......when someone slides into second on a steal you hear the ripples of the cleat hitting the dirt and the bag.....sounds really good when I watch baseball games on fox, you can even hear the tag.

- Three things we need to send this game over the top, would be a franchise mode where u can have other, xboxlive friends interact in, with being able to play games, ect.
- We also need to be able to join other peoples games and watch the game being played out. like an observer. type situation.
- We also need, team online play like NBA / NHL being able to go online with other people to form your own baseball team and play against others.

yea, but if they had all those modes, the gameplay would still be the same, and not many people would like it.
I say add one nice new mode, like Superstar/career mode, make the online stable, update stadiums/player portraits (take them from FOM), more in-depth franchise mode, take out the damb trading cards (i guarntee they wasted a lot of time on that instead of other things), and a couple other things.
There isn't a game yet with an online dynasty mode, and a team play mode in one game, and i doubt MLB would be the first game to do it. I see NHL as the first possibly, maybe NCAA Football or FIFA. Team play in MLB would be the hardest to make, and possibly the most boring for users, as they'd only get a couple chances to get the ball or hit in a game. Everyone would want to be a pitcher, and it'd get crazy.
Maybe they'd find someway to make it better, like everyone controls 3 players (thought of this last year, and bats and fields with those 3). That would make it a lot more active for everyone.
Online dynastys would also be hard in MLB, as they have the longest season in Sports. Most people wouldn't play 162 games though. More like 81 or 40. But nice ideas anyway.

Franchise has to be deeper, much deeper. No excuse why baseball on the N64 and xbox was deeper than it is now. Superstar mode is now the must have. Being able to watch someone else's game would be nice, but could cause them to lag.
People whine about the graphics. I don't see what the problem is with them. I think they look really good. They have to fix the graphical glitches, but solid, consistent gameplay and depth are more important to me than looking pretty. This series is like the Paris Hilton of baseball video games. It looks good (i don't think PH looks good though), but there is no depth behind it.

And if they made it where people could jump in at anytime then you wouldn't have to worry about people quiting because you could replace them. The online franchise would be awesome if they made it like NCAA where you could play the computer and human opponents.

I agree the graphics are the last thing 2K needs to worry about with this year's game. They are just fine to me, and to be honest, graphics really shouldn't be that big a deal in baseball games anyway. Hell, my favorite baseball game to play is MVP NCAA 07, and that was released for the PS2 during the next-gen era of gaming.
If they get the gameplay on par with that of The Show, we will be in great shape!

yeah he knows that, he was saying there isn't a game with online dynasty and team up in the same game, and it's hard to imagine after not having either the year before that mlb could have both this year.
i don't understand what this watch people play bullspit is, or why people want to watch their friends play so badly. can we add a feature to video games that's less useless please? Wouldn't you much rather play a game, then watch someone else play?
What they really need to add to make this game better is an improvement in gameplay and game logic, not the peeping tom mode...

Well that sucks because that is the best part of the game for me and the only reason i am still playing. Hopefully I don't run into any problems. And just because it doesn't work right in NCAA doesn't mean that VC couldn't get it to work right for baseball. I just really like the way they did where you could play the computer too and think it would awesome in a baseball game with the right people.

Don't get too excited, VC also did NHL 2K9, and that was terrible. And they had less time with MLB than with NHL because of the mess last year around MLB 2K8. The only hope this year is going to be good is if they strip out a ton of features and just try to focus on getting the gameplay right. And online is probably hopeless if hockey is a clue unless they started over - something about the way they implemented it seems fundamentally flawed.

yea beleive me im not "getting excited" and im sry but ur wrong nhl 2k9 is not terrible its just nhl 09 is just superior to it that it makes it look inferior but things like the shot stick, smoother animations, puck transitions etc. it has nhl 09 beat but in every other aspect nhl 09 takes the cake. so like i said we are all gonna b presently suprised with what we get this year

Hopefully there will be a little more thought put into franchise mode. I was playing 2k8 the other day vs Colorado and they had a left handed catcher behind the plate. As it turns out, they didn't see the need to carry a backup catcher on their roster, so they just insert the backup 1st baseman who happens to be left handed in the catchers spot when their starter needs a rest. Whenever I play the Dodgers they always start Juan Pierre at 1st base and I just realized that I have a left handed 2nd baseman on one of my minor league teams

yea, advance the franchise mode about 3 years, and you'll find all sorts of weird stuff happening. Some FA don't decide to sign, so they just sit out an entire season. Lefties are playing the infield, and players are out of position. Like Reyes said, people like Juan Pierre at 1st base? WTF?

I know that 2K9 is basically finished but here are my inputs.
1. Gameplay. 2K7 was a great game all you had to do is fix the led bats people have(everyone can hit a HR on every at-bat) and you would be great. I like Timmy on the cover hopefully it means it's a pitcher friendly game but you guys love HR been an issue since 2K6.
2. Online play. Too many crashes and lags.
3. Game modes. If you cant make the Career mode and work on the franchise at least make the Franchise great, I play about 90% of the game on this mode and i bet others do the same make it fun and great. Make arbitration, Negations with agents ( every baseball fan knows Scott Boras is as baseball as "Take me out to the Ball game") make the rivalry in the Offseason as fun as the rivalry during the post season if am going after lets say Erik Bedard and I am The R.Sox make the Yanks go all out for him. If i am playing as the Twins there is no chance that the W. Sox should accept my offer of a trade not even if they crave the player am offering, Some FA should be signed if Jake Peavy is on the market more than a month then all the GM's should be fired, Not all FA should sign everywhere Manny going back to Boston aint gonna happen make a player have emotions towards a team (scale it from 1-100 if another team pony ups good cash for a FA and they have a relationship with the team with a 86% rating and my Team has a 30% rating by all means that player should go to the team he likes more not the biggest contract Icons like Pujols or Jeter should never wear another uniforms but the one they respectively wear now). I want to scout around the world and look for prospects in the offseason, Set consecution prices, make upgrades to my stadium in the offseason, and vote players to the HOF or at least set what i think deserves to be HOF numbers because alot of players can break the 500 HR mark( sounds repetitive but every clocks in 25-40 HR a season even some rookies)
4.) Am gonna skip graphics because i see you went back to 2K7's Graphics and Say Announcers. Joe and Jon are not fun just boring and i can tell you have them reading from a piece of paper, bring Michael Kay to the game he is exciting especially his HR calls ( Going back , track, Wall, See Ya!!!). The Stadium is dead at great moments ( i once had the Bases loaded in the 9th and Papelbon was trying to close the for me in Boston and i could hear no crowd noise. Fenway should be on fire the pounding on the monster or the crowd cheering" Lets go paps") the little things about baseball make it fun. Make all the cool things that happen in the Stadiums happen like the legendary " sweet caroline" @ fenway during middle of the 8th.
5.) Fix the simulation stats. I know people have career years but when Chone Figgins bats .389 39HR and 158 RBIs and an Ace like Ben Sheets puts up back to back 5+ ERA seasons you know somethings wrong with the stats.
2k disappoints me when they release games because they used to make the best games NFL 2K5 is my all time favorite game everything was great from gameplay to offseason to presentation but it seems when you guys bought the MLB license you forgot all about making good Baseball games. If i had a PS3 i wouldn't be complaining but i only have the Xbox 360 and that put me in this problem but mark my words if 2K9 is below standards i am buying a PS3. The Show is a great game and the Sales show it since it beat you in units sold and the only had to provide for 3 Consoles while you guys had 5. you can ban me if you want but you wont get better by rejecting criticism. Make a good game or sell the MLB license back to EA but dont half as* me i work hard for my 60 bucks i deserve quality for it.

come on 2k these are essential to baseball!! especially waivers, there is nothing more unrealistic than being able to demote a 15 year veteran into AAA!!?! geez, ditch the player cards if you have to , noone cares!! we want baseball!! for those that like to collect baseball cards, they have a closet full of them already, and those are valuable, who wants "electronic baseball card"??

i feel you there man. I'd be fine w/ cards if everything else was all good, but instead of using time on those cards last year, they could've really spent their time somewhere else that needed help, like oh...franchise mode, online play, graphics, and umm..gameplay.

Well it would be pretty hard not to be on the upswing...this is like saying that the guy who toke over for Saddam Hussein should be a better humanitarian. This game has been total garbage 2 out of the past 3 years (2007 was ok). I wish in franchise mode you could have complete control of all 30 teams' rosters. Such as being able adjust their Lineups Pitching rotaions depth charts and call ups from the minors. Also when creating or editing players they need to have a more specific type of pitcher choice. Like are they a starter middle reliver setup or closer. And fielders need a secondary pos. And also when adjusting players attributes they need to have actual numbers rather than just power meeters! Like from 40-100. 100 obviously being the best. I hope the creators would seriously consider adding these simple improvements to make the game MUCH better!

Also, im assuming when you say 40 Man roster, you are including September Call-Ups. In the MLB, they can be such a vital part to a young player's development and trade value. In you franchise mode, if you are either clinched into the playoffs or out of the playoffs, it would be nice to play your prospects and not have to worry about winning or losing the games.

the gameplay straight sux

Check swings in 2k8 were really hard to execute, and I think most other people thought that as well since I rarely saw anyone using check swings while playing online. Given the split second you need to make a decision after the pitch is thrown, there needs to be an easy way to check the swing. Pulling back down the joystick was a very hard way to do it. I loved the way MVP 05 did it. I checked my swing on most of my swings. If I saw it was going to be a ball, it was much easier to check. This must be made easier in 2k9.

One thing that bothered me a lot about Mlb 2k8 was the roster adjustments. The CPU would change numbers of players already on your team and give their numbers to new players called up from the minor leagues. For example, Derek Jeter wasn't wearing number 2 after like the second season because the yankees called someone up who wore the number.
Also, in GM mode as well, superstars were getting far too expensive to sign, and no one was signing them. 3 or 4 years deep the FA list was stocked with overall talent ranging from the mid 90s to 100. They need to be more signable.

I signed up just for this thread.
I noticed one common theme in this thread. Yeah, there's a few requests for gameplay or frivolties, but there's one thing mentioned over and over again; Franchise mode needs to be deeper.
More and more, games are moving away from their core market, and more toward the casual gamers. This works for the majority of projects because hard-core Halo fans will buy the next installment reguardless of whether it was made for them or the casual gamer, while the casual gamer will only buy games marketed to them. They don't want to be immersed in a story, have complicated controls or sift through back-story, they just want to shoot things.
But sports are unique. You have options - If you don't like 2k9, you can buy The Show. Hardcore gamers are not to be taken for granted.
Yet, they are. People like me who like to run twenty seasons in franchise mode want more depth, more storylines, more personality... And we keep coming up empty.
I've been a 2K fan since... Well, since MVP went belly-up. Both 2K and The Show had similar options, and so I went to 2K because the gameplay was far superior. The mechanics were excellent, the fielding needs a little work, but is ok, and the whole experience was just more realistic.
But this year... Well, there's almost nothing about the new game online. It seems to be a big secret, but what little has been released seems to promote the fact that things have been 'simplified.' That's not a good word... Pitching has been simplified, hitting has been simplified, franchise mode has been simplified... I don't want to hear that. It was too simple as it was! This is nothing but a further move toward casual gamers.
Meanwhile, I look over to The Show - Several waiver options, salary arbitration, 40-man rosters... WOW! They really expanded their franchise mode!
When I think back, I realize that I've had all of this before - All-Star Baseball used to give it to me eight years ago. They also gave me a Expansion mode, which was the most fun I've had in a baseball game since. Why is it these features can't be done on 2K9? Why can't we get a little something?
We seem to lose features as time goes on, and it's all in the interest of being 'simplified.' 2K, if you're listening - WE DON'T WANT SIMPLIFIED! WE WANT TO HAVE FUN AGAIN! Stop making games for the casual fan, because they're not buying your game anyway. WE ARE!

I totally agree. I don't want a "Simplified" game. I like games that actually have some depth to them and games where it's actually a challenge to beat the AI. For instance, I liked the controls in 2K8 because they have a bit of learning curve and it took atleast a little while to master the pitching, fielding, and batting compared to other baseball games.
If they are really going to simplify the controls, then I hope they atleast give us options to turn the advanced controls on for those who want more a challenging experience.

1) Chise player progression. I had to literally go through and adjust attributes myself. It got to the point where there were 2 players hitting 60 HRs, 2 hitting 50, and get this (worst year for excessive HRs in my chise) 21 players hitting 40 HR guys. 6.8 ERA was an all star worthy ERA at this point in my Chise before I finally called it quits.
2) Reinvision pinpoint pitching. Make it so that it is not so accurate. I played break, but eventually I learned them all and it was basically PP again. Sorry, I just can not do the thumb motions 200+ times a game. Beat up thumbs get worn out quick
3) Framerate
4) Add more to the Chise. You know what you are leaving out 2k. Get on it :P
5) Deeper Create a player. No more letter grades, I like numbers (yeah, I really don't expect them just to accomodate me, but it is my list dammit). Emotes would be nice. Some players are laid back some are a cancer in the locker room.

A good point, Samurai - The ERAs exploded in 2K8 as time went on. I think there's a far too easy move onto A+
I know people like to have their favorite players have an A+ in many places, but it should really be reserved for only the very best. A+ should be a rare thing, reserved for only the best. There's no reason why Jose Reyes should be able to hit 50 homers in a season. It's never going to happen. And why is Grady Sizemore breaking the single-season home run record?

Oh man, I hope he never steps foot into the NBA 2k section of the forums. If he got all butt hurt over me using CHISE 3x then his head will explode in the NBA 2k section.

I agree pretty much. Graphics. Animations. Also I know people are gonna hate me for saying this, but I think there should be a feature like the one from MLB 08 The Show. I like 2k8 way better gameplay wise, but the features were there. Road to the Show is a lot of fun to play and I think they should have something in that area be put in MLB 2k9. I would also by far love to see graphics improved and overall presentation. When I play I wanna feel like I am in the game. Little things would be awsome. For example, having the beer guy yell "Beer Here!" while you are playing would be pretty awsome. Having authentic chants from the stadium also. Just my input on what I would like to see.
