Here is mine so far which nicely maximizes both defensive and offensive capabilities:

Defense: 7 stars
Gold: Woodson (Corner): Gold leadership, interception magnet, and return skills as well
Silver: Butler (SS): The best coverage strong safety in the game
Silver: Bethea (DT): Allows for very good pressure with just the front three
Bronze: Brazile (OLB): The best bronze OL, who can cover and tackle very well
Bronze: Van Pelt (OLB) The second best bronze OL
Bronze: Macdaniel (Corner): the best bronze level coverage corner
Bronze: Marion (FS): Very good coverage ability for a bronze

Here is the setup with a 3-4:

Marion Butler

Woodson Marion

Brazile Generic ILB Generic ILB Van Pelt

Bethea Generic DT Generic DE

Offense: 4 stars
Gold: Barry Sanders (RB): Home run potential on almost every play - can catch well too
Silver: Bart Starr (QB): Best silver passer where every ability is useful
Bronze: Branch (WR): Deep threat receiver -- very good speed and catching ability
Bronze: Clark (WR): Can catch almost everything -- perhaps the very best bronze WR in the game

Why I like this team:

* Excellent defense that can stop both the pass and run -- no glaring weaknesses
* Good coverage with 4 stars in the secondary -- charged with gold level leadership
* Very good linebackers to stop the run and assist with pass coverage
* Pressure with the front three with Bethea and his silver leadership
* Very good return skills with Woodson

* Very good offense than can run and pass
* Once you get use to the running controls, Barry Sanders is simply amazing
* Very good receivers in Branch and Clark -- can play both a long and a short game
* Can read defenses with Starr
* Can throw to generic TE's and WR's with Starr's Silver level leadership, further opening up the offense

Give it a try and I think you have a lot of fun with it. If you have another great team, what is the team and why do you like it?

Was abit too lazy to include the "B", but yeah, I mean outside linebacker. Now fixed. :)

Gold:

IL **** Butkus - I hear alot of mixed reports about his game play. To me his Run Reader and Leadership are invaluable.
TE Jackie Smith - Only Gold TE with soft hands. Too bad it didn't help in the SuperBowl.

Silver:

SS Joey Browner - Stud
FS Eric Turner - Jack Tatum is too slow and gets burnt in coverage. Eric Turner is faster and still has the big hit.
IL Harry Carson - That's right I role with two IL. Sub in Carson at Outside in Nickle packages.

Bronze:

FS Nolan Cromwell - I like having an extra safety
WR Alvin Harper - stud
WR Anthony Carter - hands
WR Wesley Walker- my kick returner and deep threat.
QB Tommy Kramer - Guys if you havn't tried this bronze player out give him a shot. His arm strenght is naturally strong similar to Archie Manning in the silver tier they don't need a charge. Plus he has eye black
DE Leonard Marshall - Big hit baby

5 offense, 6 defense. I have been playing with this team only for a couple days but i'm 8-0 with them.
Gold: CAP CB- bump, coverage bonus, speed burner; Jerry Rice- AKA Manly man monster.
Silver: Lester Hayes- best bump in the game; Lem Barney- all-around player; Stabler- Gets it done when it counts.
Bronze: Okoye- brings consistency; Eric Green- good hands, good blocking; D Clark- gets it done when it counts; Albert Lewis- solid; Brazile- Best bronze LB; Dexter Manley- best pass rushing bronze.

Now the catch on defense is I run primarily 4-3. Brazile subbed at ILB, Barney subbed at FS, Lewis subbed at SS.
Lewis has been playing rather iffy, so I much sub him out for somebody else. Hayes and lewis are nice to have on kick coverage, too.

Gold:

Joe Montana - My 2nd favorite gold QB in the game. Love playing with him.

Dave Wilcox, Derrick Thomas or my CAP (closing speed, coverage bonus and wrap up tackler) - I play as LB's most of the time, and it doesn't get better to me than these three.

Silver:

Don Maynard - Gold WR at silver. Great value.

Eric Turner - What TheVisionary78 said.

Roger Craig - A little skeptical using him at first, but he's my favorite silver RB. Him or Ottis Anderson. Craig has great hands and runs really well.

Bronze:

Terry McDaniel and Albert Lewis
Dwight Clark
Charlie Waters
William Perry
Pete Metzelaars

My favorite team changes all the time. This is my favorite right now.

Same here. Joe Cool's probably my favorite gold QB in the game. Him or Sammy Baugh.

It may be weird, but I feel like him when I'm going down the field down in the 4th. Feel safe with him.

I just had the most amazing game with Joe Cool.

My defense is getting abused the entire game. Im losing 28-14 going into the 4th quarter and I have the ball. I drive down field in about 1 minute and score. My opponent gets the ball. Drives down to about my 40 yard line I get him to 4th down he goes for it since I really couldnt stop him all day. He throws a post to Pete Metzellars and Joey Browner destorys him and he drops the ball. So Joe Cool does his thing drives me down field and I tie the game. I had to convert 2 4th downs. He starts at his own 25 with about 30 seconds left. The first play is a huge play down to my 30 yard line. I think the game is over. I call a t.o. theres about 20 seconds left. He runs it on 1st I stuff him and its 2 and 11. He calls a timeout. The second play Reggie White just abused the OT and sacked the QB so now he is on my 36 with around 15 seconds left and he calls another time out. On about 3rd and 17 he throws a corner pattern to Pete and its tiped and I intercept it and run it back to mid field. With 2 seconds left Joe Montana throws a perfect pass to a wide open receiver in the endzone. The dude must of been ****ed.

my team is pretty good, definitly worth a try if you use ALL THE PLAYERS ABILTIES WELL

GOLD- jerry rice -->leadership
GOLD- ronnie lott -->leadership
SILVER-joey browner
SILVER-nick bonuoconti( i cant spell his name for nothin') -->leadership
SILVER-greg lloyd -->leadership
BRONZE-dave krieg(he probably has the strongest arm out of all the non-rocket arm QB's, i remember he threw the ball once from my own 30 all the way to the other 25 yard line, and plus, a 55 yrd throw is a real throw in the nfl, becuase i know "joe cool" cood never throw 75 in real life, maybe 55 at most, unlike APF which is one thing i never really liked about this game with the ridiculous arm strength)
BRONZE-rob moore(he is f*#king insane, he really is a silver with a bronze star)
BRONZE-eric green(has secret branching tackles and soft hands, im telling u)
BRONZE-dave megget(another silver with a bronze star, IMO)
BRONZE-robert brazile(is a good all around backer')
BRONZE-ray guy(hes my punter/kicker, hes very valuable, if u kick near the out-of-bounds line on K.O., his "coffin corner" ability USUALLY kicks in and the ball winds up not going out of bounds nor into the endzone/////////////and his punting avg. is just around 66 yrds per punt, an't that an awesome tool ;) )

^^^^^^^^^^---------------also take into consideration the amount of leadership on my team, so maybe Dave Krieg doesn't have as strong of an arm when he doesn't have as much leadership on his team, who knows, just throwing it out there before someone tests him out and he winds up throwing 40 yrds or something like that

Dave Krieg is just an example

I'm that dude,butterknife27 it's a video game not that big of a deal.. I could tell you take it more serious than me by all those adjustments you made after I completed a pass. I think I lost all the 3 games I played tonight.. I should have just ran out the clock and kicked the long field goal. The play of the game was that Reggie White sack. He was invisible the whole game but came through when it mattered most. That sacked forced me to have to make a bad throw to get back into field goal range... and it got tipped and picked.

Jack Tatum sitting in a cover 2 shouldn't have allowed the WR Eric Martin to run right by him.

B: DE-Simmons/DE-Manley/OLB-Brazile

Let me post a team that I have never loss with

Gold - John Mackey ( TE)
Gold - Dave Wilcox (OLB)

Silver - Ken Stabler (QB)
Silver - Don Maynard (Wr)
Silver - Elvin Bethea ( DE)

Bronze - Nolan Cromwell ( FS)
Bronze - Ken Houston ( CAP SS) CLosing Speed
Bronze - Bobby Bell (Cap Olb) Closing Speed
Bronze - Robert BRazile (Olb)
Bronze - Dwight Clark ( Wr)
Bronze - Floyd Little ( Hb)

This is by far the best team build I have and I'm undefeated......

Now let me break it down

Special Teams
-----------------
Floyd Little and John Mackey on kick return are deadly, they have the potential to take kick returns and punts back for a td.

Offense
-----------
Maynard = The only knock I can possible think is speed and height, but besides that any and everyone knows this guy is probably the second best wr in the game ( behind Rice)

Clark = Honestly at 6'4" with Clutch,Soft hands, Magic Feet is top 5 wr in the game. What he lacks in route running and speed he makes up for it in Height and Hands. Clark Can honestly get open against any Cb.....

John Mackey = Now I admit it does'nt have the best hands, BUT play him close to the line of scrimmage and let him make his yards after the catch. His speed burner ability and breakaway burst is DEADLY. Also power up the a button and he can shoulder charge dang near anyone and take it home.

FLoyd Little = There is a reason he's on the sam team with Ear Campbell in the game. This guy has a hidden shoulder charge, and soft hands. His abilities are Return Specialist and quick out of cuts, throw some screens to him and run counters and the defense will be going crazy....

Who do they cover? Maynard , Clark? then you got Mackey to worry about, if that isn't enough you got Little who can catch very good, just an all around problem.

With Stabler at the Helm with Clutch and Leadership it's just to much for any defense too handle, cause you can even depend on generics because someone will be wide open, set your generic 2nd string Hb to power and that's your short yardage.....

Now onto Defense, the first thing you noticed are no Cbs? No need to worry...... Here's why

The basis of this defense is Zone in 4-3

You have Bethea at 2nd Dt, Bobby Bell at left Olb, Wilcox at Middle Linebacker, Brazile and right OLb, Cromwell at Fs and Ken Houston at SS.

Generic Cbs set to Balance, D-lineman set to balance.

Betheas Leadership really makes a difference. With 3 Olb clogging the middle with Bethea forget about running, forget about it.

Cbs give the Wr 2-3 yard space, the point is to give them everything short and nothing deep, hence two Bronze safeties who play amazingly well. On Offense you can score at will , on defense Wilcox covers the middle of the field, he will get an interception...... Bethea will sack the qb, your generic Cbs play good....

Cromwell will Deflect passes, Ken Houston closing speed will catch ANYONE.

5 on offense 6 on defense, trust me fellas go against my team you will lose.......

i love my team
gold: night train lane, willie wood (switch wood to man coverage for man to man, and safety for zone)
silver: len dawson (love his play fake and laser arm), todd christiansen, leroy butler (again switch him to cb on man coverage, and safety for zone)
gold: bryce paup, carl banks (both are good in run stopping), rob moore, willie gault, earnest givins, ( three wrs cuz defense cant match up all three with good bump corners. freeman mcniel (hes faster than some other bronze backs, dats y i like him)

Cover 2 with 2 seconds left at mid field is stupid cover 12 or 4 in prevent is the smarter choice in that situation

G - G. Sayers
G- R. Lott

S - K. Stabler
S - G. Lloyd
S - J. Brown

B - A. Harper
B - T. Mc Daniel
B - R. Sanders
B - A. Lewis
B - Eric Green
B - C. Waters

Sayers may be the best HB and best return man in the game people just don't know it because they are so in love with branching tackles to care.
Lott just makes my secondary play better all around and Lloyd is just a monster that I practically canot live without and Brown is the most consistently disruptive non gold DT I have seen.
About the only variations I would make to this would be to put Lett in at DT and use Maynard as a WR or dump the TE and and swap a OT.

I put him on my teams a few times and he never got 1 sack or even any pressure on the QB. I have better success with the bronze Dexter Manly.
