View Full Version : Do you guys think the big addition to MLB 2K9 might be "Living Rosters" like NBA 2K9?

Just a thought. NBA 2K9 gets updated rosters every single day, but that would probably be a hell of a lot harder to do for baseball because we have 9 man lineup, 5 man rotation, bullpen, and 3 levels on minor leagues.... and the NBA has 5 positions with a max of 15 players per team.
That could be a cool feature if done well (that's asking a lot), but the average baseball fan probably won't care that much and once the season is over MLB 2K9 will be like MLB 2K8.
Just a thought.

i make my own rosters, so i'd be ****ed if that happens. I want to see something to do w/ either the actual gameplay, or a new mode like career mode.

well would this everyday update if they put it in affect the franchise rosters? i hope no liike there is an option to turn it on or off for offline or something all of this is just a reach tho and prob wont happen but we make our own ratings the way we feel they should be in franchise mode with custom sliders etc so this could b good for online leagues and such and online games but bad for business offline

I would definately love to see living rosters, but wow, this would be a daily thing for the game. I really do not know how hard the coding would be for living rosters. In NBA 2k9, from what I have seen the effect of LR is not on during Association mode.
One of the things I would love to see is downloading custom sliders the way NBA 2k9 does.
I think it took me like 30 games before I felt like I was getting the MLB feel.

I haven't played NBA 2k9 but I would welcome the idea of Living Rosters. I mainly play franchise and it's always nice to have the rosters up to date. I know you can just turn force trades on and do it manually but I think the LRs would be nice. I like to use the draft sometimes too and I would hope LR wouldn't mess that up. I guess that would be the exception. However, even if MLB 2k9 doesn't include it, I don't think it will be that big of a deal. What I think 2k9 could really do without are the cards..

The LRs, at least in my mind would not work in the chise. It is mainly there to keep the rosters updated daily. Mainly for online play.

Is it mainly for online play in NBA 2k9?

Yeah, from what I hear it updates injuries and player rotation. Sorry, I wish had first hand info for you, but I learned long ago to stray away from online b-ball games. Way too many exploits.
Before, one would have to go online to down load the current roster. Now, it just updates for you. I am not entirely sure if its daily, but it is very current.
This is why I am very skeptical if something like this were to happen for MLB 2k9. MLB teams change daily and I can only imagine the data that needs to transfer daily.

Indeed. It might be way too much. So you'd still have to change franchise stuff yourself?

I am about 25+ games into my chise/association in NBA 2k9 and from what I have noticed is that the chise/assoc. is completely independent. I would say that it would have to be because the LR would interfere with one's personal changes the association.

Haha yeah that definitely makes sense then. However I think the LRs for online play in MLB 2k9 would be a nice addition.

living rosters is a default "Roster" Save so if there is a trade or updates to player ratings. Accessories. It will save to a specified save, namely "Roster". You can also edit the roster that is saved from Living rosters. Also Living rosters updates player specific animations, if someone has a go to move that wasnt in the game, they can add it in mid season.
I think it would be amazing in MLB 08. That was a negative for me, was constantly updating and creating players to reflect the current rosters. Took me hours. Please add it to MLB.

like someone else said its easier in NBa because of the fewer amount of players....could they maybe at least pull it off to update the MLB rosters and not AAA or AA or A

I think that may have to. As we all know, teams are always pulling people up from AAA when injury strikes or if it is just their time. I really do not know about this, but I willing to out on a limb and say that majority of folks probably do not care about playing farm teams against each other. So yeah, this would not matter that much, but it just when players get the call up. Again, I would love to see the feature, but I be a wee bit skeptical to see it happen. I would be suprised if we see a bi-weekly update.

i agree....however i dont rly play with the minor league teams b/c of the fact that it is just plain boring with no commentary and stuff like that.....

I've asked this question already and the answer i received was that it was highly unlikely that this would be in MLB 2K9.

living rosters will be good because makes it feel way more realistic like nba2k9 and as an example if pedro alvarez moves up i would like to see changes like that

Btw......whoever said that there was going to be a big addition to this game? Where is that coming from?

Honestly, it would be better if the big addition was working online play. Loading this franchise up with more features is probably exactly the wrong way to go...
