Rules subject to change

1) You must be active, any inactivity for more then 2 weeks (without notice) you will be kicked and someone or the cpu will take your team.

2) Online Draft (random order)

3) A salary cap of 150M per team, so manager your team (If possible)

4) Schedule, I will try to keep it short after all the off season is where you do most of the work. (play each team 3 times then playoffs)

5) Trades, there will be no admin rejected trades. If you want to trade your top player for prospects then go ahead. I will not stop you. (You must be at 150M or under.)

6) Sportsmanship is a must, if you loose you loose that’s baseball. Don’t quit, get mad, and shout profanity because you lost. Any unsportsmanlike issues managers will be kicked.

7) League will start 2 weeks after game is released.

8) Have fun after all this a game

I think the cap needs to be a little higher. If we are trying to make this as close to real baseball as possible being a GM. There is NO cap in baseball, so if we decide to have one I believe it should be in the 225 Mil. range.

Granted, but if there is no cap then a bidding war for a FA would be crazy. This way, if you want to sign a player and you dont have the cap room. You are forced to trade a player or release them. This way one team does not have a payroll of 400mil. I could up to 200mil a nice round number.

I am thinking the online play is going to be like fantasy baseball, and not like career mode. I am hoping this is not the case. I really want do to the things in career mode online like scouting, trading for prospects, drafting etc etc. If the admin can let us know how online play is handled that would be very helpful.

Think the rules look good. Think might want to make a clause or understanding though that you can amend them and we can vote on that at the end of the first season. First time we got the game we might decide on some needed rules.

But looks great and really looking forward to playing.

Why do you think the game will just have a fantasy type thing without the full features in the online version? That would suck if they do that, because the scouting and all of that seems to be the heart of the game.

Whether they beat you or not, it just isn't fun. This game will take all the frustrations of playing random idiots online, and let the outcome depend on your managing, and a little computer luck.

I know what you mean, I just hope we do have a online career mode as well, but if you have looked at the pastaparde.com website. They are saying its a fantasy baseball mode, and not career. even so I was going to play FB this year. I think will be easier to play and setup ( I hope)

The rules sound good but as far as the cap goes of movin it to 200 is takin the realism out of it. If it was to be changed to a round number then 100mil would be a more relistic choice since in real life only like 5 or 6 teams are even over 100mil.

I used to be in a fantasy league, I forget the actual website, but it used actual player stats of your players, and you played a 162 game season. If your player played that day, the game used those stats. You needed to have long and short relievers, and they had to pitch. If your SP had pitched in 10 games in MLB, and in the league he had already pitched in 10 games, his spot was skipped. If you didn't have enough players, a "AAA" player was brought up, and he sucked! LOL, it took a lot of time, which I loved.

Change of plans. I know I just joined the site and was looking forward to next week, and now the new Game Informer came out and rips Front Office to shreds giving it a 3. The review go on to rip the menu system as one of the worst ever making the game unplayable. It also talk about the AI, and gives an example of how they Jake Peavy for Felix Pie and Jason Marquis. I can't pay $40 for that. Thank god I own a PS3 for The Show next month because 2K baseball can't take a step forward. You can remove me from the M's. Sorry about that.

I understand that next to nothing is known about how this will all work but i have a little concern about the draft going down. I would think it may turn out to be tough to get a time when everyone will be able to take part in it. Would that leave someone who can't make the time chosen at the mercy of the AI drafting? Not sure how many, if any, would get upset by a horrible draft by the CPU and may cause them drop out.

The other question would be is how deep would we take the draft before it would just be simmed, if at all. Since it will be important for teams to draft prospects to fill the holes of their MLB team in future years, it would be best to go past the 25 man roster in the draft while at the same time taking it to 100 rounds would be far too long.

But like I said I understand that nothing is known about how it can work on the game and that it would be figured out by the time we would actually have the draft. I was just wondering what kind of plan there was at the moment, if any. Like would we hold the draft for as many that could make it, have the CPU draft for everyone, of if the online ends up not being very user friendly would we consider using our teams rosters and forgoing the draft.

I'm just ask cause im interested and I needed some time to kill today. I'm still game no matter what choice is made on either of my questions.

I agree. Lots of questions still remain, but not many can be answered before the release. Like would we hold the draft that evening on the date of release, the 26th if I am correct. We could create an email chain with everybody to get the best ideas of when to hold the draft. I am not down for having the CPU do my picks for me. We would need much discussion to avoid this happening to anyone.

It sucks, but we need to have just about every round of the draft in order for this to be the best experience for all of us, that means drafting every farm player. We'll see the rules of the draft once inside the game, but having a time limit is definitely key, and it would definitely somehow need to be cut down once we get past round 25.

Also, does anyone know the actual speed of the online season. Does it do 1 day of game time=1 day of real time? Or can we speed up the whole process so say that in 1 actual day, the game will go through say 3-5 days of game time.

It sucks not much info is released. If it's possible to just imput the results of the draft or edit the teams rosters or something we could hold the draft on the website message board.Have the order posted and people post thier pick when when they get the chance. That would lead to the draft spanning several days thou. Just spitballing. I wonder if the draft turns out to be just a huge problem getting it right if it could end up being a good idea to just use the existing teams and go from there. Would everyone still particapate if that turns out to be the best course of action? I know people picked teams based on there being a draft and I don't know if they would like to use thier selected team as defaultly constructed.

I'm sorry if i'm stepping on toes here asking these questions but I just figured we could try to figure out a rough idea of what we will do now so if certain problems come up once we try to get the league running we have somewhere to start and not trying to come up with ideas of what to do when after we wanted to start which would push the start date back farther. So i guess i'm asking what problems does everyone think could happen and we could come up with ideas incase said problem comes up. This way we can figure everything out and not have to delay the start date.

1) You must be active, any inactivity for more then 2 weeks (without notice) you will be kicked and someone or the cpu will take your team.

2) Online Draft (random order)

3) A salary cap of 125M per team, so manager your team

4) Schedule, I will try to keep it short after all the off season is where you do most of the work. (play each team 3 times then playoffs)

5) Trades, there will be no admin rejected trades. If you want to trade your top player for prospects then go ahead. I will not stop you. (You must be at 125M or under.)

6) Sportsmanship is a must, if you loose you loose that’s baseball. Don’t quit, get mad, and shout profanity because you lost. Any unsportsmanlike issues managers will be kicked.

7) Draft TBD.

8) Have fun after all this a game

All the rules sound great, but I'm still conserned that the salary cap is set to high. Like you said the main part of the game is the offseason and with cap that high makes methink that it would take away from it as not many players would hit free agency. Everyone would beable to sign any player on thier team before they hit free agency easily.

In real life only the Yankees went over 175 last year. Next closest team was Detroit at 138. I think it would give the real life feel at a much lower cap. For example, say I end up drafting my Brewers exactly as they are in real life. With a salary cap at 175 I'd able to sign CC long term, Prince long term, and still have over 50mil to sign anyone else I'd feel like getting. Now say I end up drafting the exact Brewer team by chance and we had a cap at 100 mil. It would make me make the tough choice as a real GM to either pay CC and have no money to sign younger guys long term or get free agents. Or as GM do I let CC walk, take the draft picks and sign younger guys like Prince long term. Or as GM do I let CC walk, trade Prince who will want a a lot of money to get prospects and free up the money to sign free agents and young guys to long deals.

I just think that such a high salary cap puts everything on how you do in the initial draft and takes free agency out of it with no decent free agents ever hitting the market. You are running the league so I will follow whatever you decide, just tossing in my two cents.

ILoveLoisLane, what I go out of that 10 team comment was that if you start a league with 10 people if the computer would play as the rest instead of just a 10 team league. I think the 10 teams was thrown out as an example, same as if they would have said that I only found 17 people to play in the league will it be a 17 team league or 30 with the computer playing the other 13. Thats the way I took it but I could have misinturpeted it and you could be right.

2 weeks should be a good amount of time for everyone to get the game and get familar with the game. I was thinking that if by chance if everyone gets the game pretty much off the bat and are ready to go soon after maybe we have everyone put that they are ready to go on the board. That way if everyone is good to go like 3 or 5 days after release we could just go instead of waiting another week and a half. I believe that the vast majority of people are excited about this game and will get it quick and want to jump into it right away.

Things might come up that they can't get the game in wich case I think 2 weeks is the perfect amount of time to give people to aquire the game.

i actually think the cap is good, though i am biased playing with the astros and not the yankees lol. it keeps everything more even. then again the red sox and yankees had a much higher payroll than the rays this past year :)

Not knowing what the parameters and/or restrictions of the games, if there are alot of active participants in this league, I'm sure people will try to raise the price of FA in the off-season, etc. Maybe I'll sign Albert Pujols in his FA year for $35 million per.

I'm curious if there is a random operating budget parameter in this game. If the owner of the franchise (yes, including the Yankees) says you must spend "X" amount on anything for the current operating year or the upcoming season, I think that would be awesome. I think that the sky the limit theory is BS. Just look at the current economic climate of baseball this year. One can only hope.

I called a couple of places that I know that breaks street date and sells games early. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be a game that falls on the list.

Trust me when I say that I will head to my local Walmart Superstore on Sunday Night/Monday morning or Monday night/Tuesday morning to get a copy of this game.

I saw that there are two unfavorable reviews about this game. I saw the score, but can't seem to find the review. No matter what the review is, I'll still take my chances. Thoughts?

Those who are most interested in this game are the people who love all of the behind the scenes managerial action of the mlb, and not just playing the actual games. Most of the critical ratings are by those who seem not to have the patience for all of the transactions and such, and want to jump straight into the actual season and gameplay. I've learned years ago not to take the review as a final say, as many of them are performed by video game analysts who sometimes know very little about sports. (at least at the in depth level that this game provides.) The best way to review a game is to play it for yourself. I am very much anticipating the release!!

Keep in mind, it is only in case of the entire league is active. Not knowing the entire parameters of online play, I am wondering if this could happen. I know this is thinking outside of the box a bit, but it is something to think about. Not to say I want to see anyone go if they have been an active member, but it is something in which the "game" holds the control over and could potentially mimic MLB.

If you look at the current set of GM's, Kevin Towers (1995) and Billy Beane (1997) are the longest tenured GM's in MLB with their current organizations. Under KT, the Padres have one 1 NL pennant and made 4 appearances in the playoffs in his 13 seasons as GM. The A's have 5 playoff appearances in his 11 year tenure. It doesn't translate to Theo Epstein's success the short amount of time as the BoSox GM. It is so weird how many clubs have changed GM's in the last 2 seasons alone. Completely unreal.

If they are active there should be no reason to boot them. It'd suck if you booted someone that was active even if they sucked for someone who says they'll be active then end up not being. Sucking is a part of video games, as long as they play along and are good GM's win or lose they should be kept IMO.

I understand both arguments, and a team may not be very good if you draft last in the league. I dont want to kick anyone out of the league. I hope all 30 owners stay active. I would rather play a game with a bunch of people throughout. However if somone is not active I have no issues with removing them.

Kicking people out I can see go either way. 2 yrs might be a little short. If you stack up on top prospects it may be like 3 to 5 years before they hit the majors and contribute. I don't like the idea of kicking someone out for being bad if they are active but if they field the worst team for like 5 or more straight years it would prolly be a good idea to make a switch.

As a reminder, I am wondering if the GAME during online play will kick out GM's for poor performance. I wasn't trying to get any members kicked out of the league, but it is a question worth asking. What kind of contingencies would we have in place if someone was active and got fired by the CPU because of limited budget, lack of ability, not meeting franchise goals, or all of the above by the game. What about GM's resigning positions to accept another GM position?

I have agreed thus far that if you are active, but unsucessful, you should keep playing....but the online play or computer may dictate all GM's terminations.

It is possible in this game depending on the organization that you choose or assigned to, there are specific objectives that have to be met. For example, the Yankees or Red Sox GM objective is for their franchise is to WIN 1 World Series or pennant in 2 years as GM vs Orioles GM must have 1 playoff appearance in next 5 years (as an example)...ala NCAA Football Dynasty mode (which I haven't played for about 3 years and assume the same rules apply if you play).

Now that I mentioned it, I must admit that I missed playing Dynasty mode on NCAA even though the lack of a playoff system made it suck just like in real NCAA football. I believe the Madden franchise mode (last time I played was about 3 years ago), you could sign a stadium deal with a corporate sponsor, however, the franchise was awarded the payoff if you made a playoff appearance, made it to the conference championship, made it to the superbowl, or win the superbowl depending on the sponsorship expectations or contract. The very first couple of Maddens (PS2) when they first incorporated franchise mode was pretty damn good as your were fired as the CPU kept tabs on your performance. I have lost interest in the last couple of years as I believe they lost the realism when it came to GM and underperformance.

I guess if the online or computer fires the GM, we may have to defer to a GM on the waiting list. Thoughts on this? Of course, without having the game, this is just all speculation.

There will be a cap, the poll is to see how much the cap should be. Also what every team is next on the list the top person on the reserve list will get to choose.

However we are thinking of a minors league for all owners on the reserve list..then if a team becomes open you move up if you would like.

hey whitesoxfan i am first on the reserve list and im just wondering if ill get all these messages and the league password, and if my vote counts towards things like salary cap and other issues. Basically, am i in on league desicions and news, or will i have to wait and c if i get into the league to have a say in desicions, and what do you mean by a minor leagues?

OK everyone it is 8:51am PT on Tuesday morning and I don't have this game yet until 11am or 11:30am PT the latest. How is the game going so far?

So far, the reviews do not seem to be positive, however, we have discussed the review process and the reviewer. So far, I have heard that the menu system for sorting seems to be the problem and manager (dugout) doesn't seem to be very good. If the manager mode sucks, I really don't care much about it. The menu option sounds like a HUGE concern, but hopefully it is exaggerated.

I have also read that the CPU GM only makes one trade proposal and does not counter. I'll reserve judgement on this until I get to play. Since this is an online league, there is no concerns whatsoever.

Does someone in our online league want to play a warm up online before we start the league? Send me an invite. my gamertag is somethinglike36.

Once the draft is completed, I would assume everyone would have to block out 1-2 hours (or more) to do the year by year transactions? I am unsure how the whole things works.

I keep reading people talk about if you are in the bottom half for more then 2 seasons, and scouting and all, does anyone know how long the online leagues last? I have never played in an online league due to my working graveyard and going to school full time. If it's a one year league or a 30 year league, that will make a huge difference when it comes to drafting!

I just found out that the owner gave me a budget of $99.7 million for 2009. I chose the Angels.

It cost $30 million to invest in Japanese players. Yikes. Player Morale is also built into the game.

2 gripes so far: The menu is a pain in the *** to control. There is a sort available, but it doesn't give the info. you need. You can filter if you choose, but I'd rather not. I prefer to look at the best talent (regardless of position) available. You may have to sort by position. It is a huge list.

40 man roster: When you go to the 40 man roster screen, the Angels have 3 spots open. I can fill the three spots with anyone from the minor league system (which of course is great) The problem here is that it doesn't tell me their overall status at your fingertips. You have to go into each player card/info to look up overall ability. Very painful.


After playing for a little bit, it isn't too bad. You just have to get used to it. Don't let my opinion deter you.

I'm not liking these early reviews that are coming in. Sounds like OOTP9 is a better option for my $40. I'll withdraw from the league and put the Angels back up for grabs.

I feel bad dropping out, but I'd rather do it now and give someone a chance, than stay committed and stop paying attention to it after a week and bring down the league.
