Okay so I did a little thinking, and I've decided to start over. The first few posts will be team updates, and a few player profile side things that I am going to call "countdown to 2009", and I will either wait for MLB 2k9, or see what they have in Front Office Manager, but since that game is coming out this month, and you can't play the games, I might as well just wait for 2k9 so I have the rosters.

2008 New York Yankees Season Recap

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e112/Cleon92/images2.jpg

2008 Record: 89-73 (No Playoffs)

2008 for the Yanks started off like every other year, with the goal to win a World Championship. 2008 had some high points, like a 7 game winning streak, and its lowest point being the Yankees missing the Post Season for the first time in nearly a decade, not the way the Yankees hoped to close out Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees season seemed bleak when pitcher Chein Ming Wang was off to one of his best starts ever. But was hurt for the rest of the season while running home against the Astros, the Yanks would have to look for help and that resorted to Sidney Ponson, Darrel Rasner, but the Yankees pitching was not good at all. Youngsters Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy who were not traded for Johan Santana, and expected to be top pitchers in the Yanks staff, did not play well at all.

Once again the Yankees suffered from the injury bug, as they lost guys like Jorge Posada, and Hideki Matsui to injurys forcing them to go to Jose Molina and acquire Pudge Rodriguez, but that never went too well.

Breaking Down the Free Agent Signings

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e112/Cleon92/CCAJTEIX2.png
CC Sabathia (Left), AJ Burnett (Center), and Mark Teixiera (Right) All Signed with NY.

The Yankees were a team in desperate need of help this off season. So far so good, as they have made three signings worth of putting them back into World Series discussions. With the signings of CC Sabathia and AJ Burnett, the Yankees were able to bolster their Rotation a whole lot from what was one of the leagues most inconsistant last season.
Of course who can forget the unexpected signing of 1B Mark Teixeira? He is obviously one of the leagues top power hittters, and not to mention great defense as well.

CC Sabathia: With CC Joining the Yankees rotation in 2009, the Yankees will finally have a power lefty in the rotation, something the Yankees don't quite have in all of their pitching staff. Sabathia had a shaky start to 2008 with Cleveland going 6-8 with an ERA in the upper 3's before being traded to Milwaukee, where he went 11-2 with an ERA of just 1.65 in 17 starts. The Yankees made CC their #1 guy they wanted to bring to NY this off season, and they signed him to a 7 year deal worth $161 M, the Yankees hope the see the CC that went 11-2, and won the CY Young in 2007 as their # 1 guy.

AJ Burnett: Just days after signing CC Sabathia the Yankees were able to lock up another star pitcher in AJ Burnett. Burnett, who spent the last 2 seasons in Toronto has been plagued by the injury bug throughout his career, but he knows what it takes to win, and keep himself in shape. Burnett finished 18-10 with an ERA of 4.07 in 2008, posting a AL Leading 231 strikeouts. The Yankees signed Burnett to a 5 year $82 M dollar deal this off season to pitch behind CC Sabathia. Burnett spent 2 year pitching behind Roy Halladay, and he says that took alot of pressure off of him, and now he gets to pitch behind another ace in CC. Just imagine the top 3 starters in the Yankees rotation....Sabathia (17 wins in 08) Burnett (18 Wins in 08), and Chein Ming Wang who was off to a great start with an 8-2 record before getting injured.

Mark Teixeira: The Yankees did not seem like a possible destination for Teixeira after the Nationals, Red Sox, Orioles, and Angels seemed to be the most likely choices. But the Yankees said that they will "monitor" what is going on with Teix this off season, after Boston's owner said they would "not be a factor" and then the Angels dropped their offer, the Yankees swooped in and have Teixeira a nice fat 8 year $180M dollar deal. Teixeira combined time with the Braves and Angels last year, but in total hit .308 with 33 homers, and drove in 121 RBI's, Teixeira claimed that family was one of the main factors along with the opportunity to win every year that made his decision final. Now the decision rests on Manager Joe Girardi as to put Mark in front of A-Rod in the order or bat him clean-up.

Three Yankees File for Arbitration

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e112/Cleon92/Arbitration.png

Three Yankees today filed for salary arbitration. The three players include OF/1B Xavier Nady, OF Melkey Cabrera, and RHP Brian Bruney. Nady was acquired by the Yankees on July 25th 2008, along with Damaso Marte from the Pittsburgh Pirates, and immediately made an impact for the Yankees. Melkey Cabrera had a tough 2008, as he underperformed to an extreme that sent him to the minor leagues, Melk was supposedly going to compete for the CF job in Spring Training. Brian Bruney ends the list of the 3 Yankees that filed. The Yankees were considering trading away either Nady or Swisher.

Yanks Don't Seem to be Going after Manny

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e112/Cleon92/fe.jpg

It's been a while since the Yankees have made headlines in Baseball's Hot Stove. The last big announcement was signing of 1B Mark Teixeira to an 8 year deal. The Yankees seemed like they had Manny locked in with a 3 year deal worth $75M, but those reports were false from the Dominican Republic. The Yankees have said that they will most likely not sign Manny Ramirez, even though they do need another power bat in the lineup.
Just look at the possibilities of what Manny can bring to an already good looking lineup in 2009.

CF Brett Gardner
SS Derek Jeter
1B Mark Teixeira
3B Alex Rodriguez
LF Manny Ramirez
C Jorge Posada
DH Hideki Matsui
RF Nick Swisher
2B Robinson Cano

We are believing that if the Yankees were to sign Manny that they would most likely be prompted to trade away both Johnny Damon and Xavier Nady. In trading Damon the Yankees would be able to gain some of the money they would spend for Manny, and the Yankees could very well still be looking at going into 2009 with the exact same budget, or even less of a budget going into the new season. We believe that if Manny is signed that the Yankees will not make him a DH because its obvious Manny wants to go somewhere to also play outfield. Who know the Yankees could even end up making a twist to the lineup similar to what they did in 2004, have Jeter, and A-Rod as the 1-2 start in the lineup, followed by Teix and Manny. Bottom line is the Yankees are in need of another bat, they are relying on both Posada and Matsui to come back from injuries, and perform well.

Could the Yankees be fooling us? After all they did just randomly swoop in and sign Teixeira, so could they be waiting out the Manny storm just like they did for Teixeira? Wait for teams to drop out, and then go in and make him the only offer that he would have to accept? Could work. We'll just have to see.

CountDown to 2009

2009 AL East Preview

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e112/Cleon92/rays.png

Tampa Bay Rays
2008 Record: (97-65)

The Tampa Bay Rays had one of the most surprising seasons in all of baseball. With a new look and a new name the Rays went from years of finishing down in the dumps of the AL East to going on to win the American League Crown, and appear in the World Series. Although their cinderella story was cut short by the Phillies, the Rays still have one of the leagues most young and talented, and not to mention explosive teams. And all this was done with a payroll of under 50 million.

The Rays did not do much this off season, just adding guys like Pat Burrell to the lineup, manager Joe Maddon has a stong feeling that this team can still win with the same roster from a year ago. The Rays are in a tough division and now with the Yankees looking to be the top dog, the Rays might have a little more competition with both Boston, and New York, and possibly even Toronto. With the likes of guys like Carl Crawford, Carlos Pena, ROTY Evan Longoria, and B.J. Upton in the lineup, and Scott Kazmir, James Shields, and Andy Sonnanstine in the rotation the Rays might be able to pull out another playoff appearence, but remember, they only beat the Red Sox by 2 games last year.

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e112/Cleon92/sux.png
Boston Red Sox
2008 Record: (95-67)

The Boston Red Sox 2008 season was filled with ups and downs. David Ortiz underacheiving power wise, and of course Manny Ramirez wanting to be traded. The Red Sox were able to get Jason Bay for Manny, and Bay helped the team get back on the right track, and with a strong pitching staff, the Sox won the AL Wild Card, but lost in the ALCS to the division rival Tampa Bay Rays, and almost pulled off yet another ALCS comeback.

The Red Sox make a few roster adjustments this off season, adding guys like veteren John Smoltz, Brad Penny, and Takashi Saito for the pitching staff, and also brought over Junichi Tazawa from Japan. As for the offense, so far the Red Sox are sticking to their guns. After losing the battle for Mark Teixeira to the rival Yankees, the Sox figured to win with what they have, and they have plenty. MVP 2nd Baseman Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkilis, David Ortiz, Jason Bay, JD Drew, and Jacoby Ellsbury, and Mike Lowell will always give you a chance to win many games. The Sox look to win their 2nd division title in 3 years.

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e112/Cleon92/Yankes.png
New York Yankees
2008 Record: (89-73)

What is there to say about the 08 Yankees, but letdown. The Yankees were a serious let down in the final season at Yankee Stadium, and Joe Girardi's first season as manager. The Yankees had a ton of problems, they missed the playoffs for the first time in more than a decade, the Yankees pitching was terrible, and the offense was not great all year.

The Yankees have had arguably the best off season in recent years, and have spent the most money this off season than any other team. CC Sabathia and AJ Burnett will add some much needed fire power to the Yankees rotation along with Chein-Ming Wang, and hurler Joba Chamberlain, the #5 spot is still un-decided, but it will be between Phil Hughes, Alfredo Aceves, and possibly Andrew Brackman. The Yankees also added Power 1st Baseman, and gold glover Mark Teixeira to the lineup, and now with Posada, and Matsui returning the Yankees lineup looks to be very scary, and there is some speculation that the Yankees are still in the hunt for Manny.

The Yankees will look to open up the first season at the New Yankee Stadium with World Series championship #27!

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e112/Cleon92/jays.png
Toronto Blue Jays
2008 Record: (86-76)

The Toronto Blue Jays are always considered the team that could "surprise" the Yankees and Red Sox in the AL East, well the Rays took thap spot last year. the Blue Jays finished with 86 wins in 2008, and that is a good number to build on. The Blue Jays had one of the better 1-2 punches in baseball last year with Roy Halladay, and AJ Burnett, that will not return in 2009. The Blue Jays finished 4th in the division last year, and were never really a contender once the Rays emerged as the favorite.

The Blue Jays still have some good pieces in the offense like Alex Rios, and Vernon Wells, and they could very well still be a team to surprise everyone. Work still needs to be done with the Blue Jays though for them to be considered a top dog.

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e112/Cleon92/orioles.png

Baltimore Orioles
2008 Record: (68-93)

The Orioles.....well 68 wins describes the season they had. Not a productive one, with very little bright spots to look forward to in 2009. The Orioles have never really been a serious noise maker in the past years, and are not expected to be one in 2009.

The Orioles pitching is depleted, after losing Erick Bedard last year, and now losing Daniel Cabrera, and now Garrett Olson, the Orioles do not look to have a strong staff in 2009. They recieved Felix Pie from the Cubs, but lets face it...he is not going to lead this team to a World Series in a year. The Orioles were in discussion with both AJ Burnett, and 1B Mark Teixeira, who were expected to possibly bring this team back on its feet, but both signed with, of course, the Yankees. Can Baltimore be the shock of 2009? Or will they fall early once again?

Yankees Bring Back Pettitte to 1 Year Deal

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e112/Cleon92/pettitte.jpg
Andy is back in Pinstripes!

The Yankees have officially brought back Free Agent Pitcher Andy Pettitte. The Bombers agreed to terms with Pettitte on a 1 year deal, that will have incentitives depending on how Andy performs in 2009. The Yankees will have Pettitte end out the rotation most likely in 2009. The Lefty veteren will add another big arm and will be the 2nd lefty in the rotation along with CC Sabathia.

Pettitte pitched the final game at the old Yankee Stadium, and if the rotation has it set right, could very well end up opening up the New Yankee Stadium. Pettitte has been with the Yankees for most of his career, with the exception of the 3 years he spent in Houston ('04, '05, '06) Pettitte was 14-14 with an ERA of 4.54 along with 158 strikeouts in 2008, and that was one of the main reasons as to why some people were saying that Pettitte did not deserve $10M in 2009.

With the re-addition of Pettitte to the rotation. The Bronx Bombers are now set to have one of the top rotations in 2009. Here is the projected Yankees 2009 Pitching Rotation.

LHP #52 CC Sabathia
RHP #34 AJ Burnett
RHP #40 Chein-Ming Wang
RHP #62 Joba Chamberlain
LHP #46 Andy Pettitte

idk but if they wanted to go with the best players they got and best offensive lineup, they should go with Swisher in Left, Damon in center, and Nady in right and Have either Melky or Gardner on the bench and the other in the minors....or they could trade one of them thats another option...but if i had to choose one to stay and one to go i would choose Melky to stay and sent gardner back down to triple A to be a regular day starter until an injury accurs or a trade..thats my opinion...because Hideki will be DHing

Yankees Fan Mailbag #1

Alright thanks to those of you who posted questions. I will answer them to my best ability. Here we go.

Question by chad0034:
"Hows CC doing with the New York Media?"

From what I know, CC is handling this quite nicely. He has been open to questions, and he has not seemed to mind the flutters of media trying to get something out of him. CC seems to be ready for the NY Media, but we all know how the media will attack if something goes wrong.

Question by chad0034:
"Any thoughts on a possible free agent pickup?"

Well, it seems the Yankees are finished with free agency, after signing back Andy Pettitte the Yankees seems to be done spending, and have completely shifted to the Spring Training Non-Roster Invitees. But that does not leave out the possibility of someone being signed to possibly bolster the bullpen, or even a utiliy infielder perhaps. But as for big names like Manny Ramirez, that is out of the question.

Question by mars040520
"Do you see the Yankees adding any pieces around the trade deadline?"
Well mars, the only trade thoughts I've heard are the few rumblings of trading away Xavier Nady or Nick Swisher. If a deal isn't done until then, the Yankees could become big negotiators around the deadline, as some teams could want a outfielder like Nady or Swisher when they have struggling starers. But as for right now the only way I can see the Yankees doing anything is if there is a injury, or an under-performing player.

Question by Moose35byah
"Given the recent development of the steroid situation regarding Alex Rodríguez, what impact will this have on the clubhouse? If any disciplinary action (i.e. suspension) is taken against Mr. Rodríguez, will this be duplicated in your franchise?"

All of the guys in the clubhouse are behind A-Rod 100%. They know the situation, and will back him up all the way. As for the disciplinary actions, if there is to be a suspension on Alex, then it will most likely be duplicated in the franchise.

Question by soldaderyan
Who's going to start at CF Gardner or Melkey???

Right now it will be Melkey Cabrera, but Gardner is definately right there in discussions, and if Melkey does struggle Gardner will be right there for backup, or even Johnny Damon.

Thats what you said "should" happen, but the Yanks aren't going to have Damon playing center.....hes been slower the last 2 years, and his arm is weaker than ever, plus hes been much more effective in left.

Question by: Eversoris
There are many who have A-Rod protected by Nady, or in rarer cases Matsui, so what went into your decision to have Posada hitting fifth?

Well, the process was to have a good contact hitter along with an ok power man behind A-Rod, and it came down to Posada and Nady. Matsui's health and ability coming off an injury is still in question and having him bat behind Posada will protect Jorge as well. Xavier Nady will bat 7th to add a very very good power and contact hitter in the 7 hole. Nady proved last year that he can do it all at bat with the Yankees, as he belted 12 homers in 59 games as well as driving in 40 RBIs and also batted .268 in his time with the Yanks making him a perfect fit in the #7 spot.

Yankees Gear up for Opening Day

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e112/Cleon92/CCvsGuth.png

The Yankees are gearing u for tomorrow's Opening day game against the Orioles. CC Sabathia will go against Jeremy Guthrie in the battle of the two teams opening day starters.

The debut of 2 of the Yankees big free agent signings CC Sabathia and Mark Teixeira will be making their Yankees debut, and fans will be getting their first looks at the new Yanks. Also look for A-Rod to have alot of Media coverage both at bat and on the defensive side. As for the Orioles the production of Jeremy Guthrie getting the opening day start will be interesting.

Be sure to tune into 2kSports.com for the outcome of the Yankees first game of the 2009 season. Tomorrow after the game!

Every time i play my brother and i get a single (or a man on first)... He can pick off the base runner everytime... Every single time.. It takes him about 2-3 throws.. But i tap the right bumper.. And he still picks him off..

I can do the same thing to him...

Is this a flaw.. Or is there a way to just hold your runner on where he wont lead off at all.. Or at least wont get picked off everytime you get a guy on 1st base??

Helppppp!

Just basically paste on the pictures, and resize them to your liking, then cover it with a square autoshape, pick the color you want, and then make it about 60% transparent for the background. For the Boxscore items just use an auto shape.

BREAKING NEWS!!!

Cordero Deal Done!

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e112/Cleon92/chad.jpg

In an update from the last post, the Yankees have announced the deal for P Chad Cordero is done. The Yankees have signed the RP to a 2 year $2.59 M deal. Much less than what the Yankees expected. "I am excited for the chance to play here, and a chance to win a world championship." - New Yankees Pitcher Chad Cordero

In order to make space for Cordero the Yankees have sent down P Jose Veras to AAA. Veras injured his arm in the first game of the Tampa series, and the injury was not expected to be serious, but the Yankees want Veras to get better as a player and grow as a dominate relief pitcher.
