I'm rooting for Tommy Haas and Ana Ivanovic. Hopefully the pressure Ivanovic faced when she was ranked number 1 will be gone. The Australian Open is probably my favorite of all the Grand Slams for some reason. It's probably because of the atmosphere. I'm expecting some epic matches to come up and definitely some upsets. January 19 here we come!

Aussie 16 year old Bernard Tomic is currently playing in his first Grand Slam against Potito Starace of Italy in front of a packed out Margaret Court Arena. He's currently winning 3-2 but looks a little nervous. Best of luck to him!

Pretty good day for the Aussies, with wins to Bernard Tomic, Brydan Klein, with Samuel Groth pushing 23rd seed Mardy Fish to 4 sets. Tomic should be able to win his next match but I'm not sure about Klein.

I wish I seen it, I was stuck listening to it on the A.O. Radio website stream. It will be amazing if she can keep this up while improving at the same time in the future rounds. Ivanovic just has to keep mentally focused the whole time, that was her main problem last year.

True that, her form was very inconsistent from tournament to tournament last year, which I think she will address as her career goes on. She is only 21 and has plenty of time to mature.
Safin also got through, but may have to play Federer, or so I heard. Poor guy.

Not looking good for the Aussies. Bernard "The Future" Tomic lost in the 2nd round 6-3 1-6 4-6 2-6 to Gilles Muller. Brydan Klein also lost his match to Stanislas Wawrinka 3-6 4-6 4-6. It also looks like Chris Guccione is on the way to a loss, after taking the 1st set and challenger in the 2nd, it all came apart for Chris, currently losing 7-6 4-6 2-6 2-5.
So it looks like no Aussies made it past the 2nd round this year. :(

There's always next year.
I been trying to catch some matches on TV in the US but I can't find any channels, including ESPN that are showing the Australian Open. :(
And the future isn't looking that great for Tommy Haas and Marat Safin. If Haas wins his next match, he may have to face Rafael Nadal and Safin's next match is against Federer. I'm hoping for a miracle here.

Believe it or not but I do want to move and live in Australia if I ever get the opportunity one day. It just seems more peaceful and laid back over there. Plus it's closer to the Philippines, making another reason to move.

Well in fairness to Hewitt, he did go out in 5 sets to the 13th seed, not a bad effort if you ask me...

I don't want to sound predictable, but I think Rafael Nadal will win it. I'm not too sure about Andy Murray, I think anyone he versus is capable of beating him, but I havn't seen him play alot. I think Federer still has it in him to beat Nadal though...

In tennis anything is possible, upsets occur a lot of times. Look at Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in last year's Australian Open. He was unseeded (need clarification on that) and he manages to shock everyone and get into the final. So yeah I can see Andy Murray winning it all.

New Updates:
[29] Alisa Kleybanova (RUS) d [5] Ana Ivanovic (SRB) 7-5 6-7(5) 6-2
Whoops. Ivanovic looked shaky in the first set and lost it. In the second, she did just enough to scrape through. But in the third she was blown away by the 29th-seeded Kleybanova. Yesterday Venus, today Ana. The women’s draw was open before; now it’s a gaping chasm. Perhaps we’ll see a surprise finalist on the women’s side this year … Jelena Dokic, anyone?

My Semi Final Predictions (Hopefully they're better than my QF ones )
Federer vs. Roddick

Roddick is a wild card, because he didn't actually win his last game. I think he might be able to rattle Federer though. He seems to have new-found work ethic and he lost a fair bit of weight so he'll be quicker on the court.
On another note - 40+ degrees Celcius in Melbourne

I'm sure the Nadal-Federer match is going to be another classic. Nadal is not going to allow tiredness to come between him and the A.O. title. I'm rooting for Nadal to win as well but I will not be surprised it Federer wins of course, he's determined to get that 14th Grand Slam.

That Nadal match was EPIC! I went to bedin the third cause I had work it it went for so darn long (5.5 hours). Despite Nadal's durability there's no doubt he'll be tired in the final. In the post-game interview he said on the last point he was crying from physical exhaustion.

I think he was just overwhelmed. You know, he has just lost a grand slam final in 5 sets, then, basicly straight away, has to make a speech infront of 15 000 people.

I think it was because he realised that he can't beat Nadal any more. First he could never win on clay, then Nadal started beating him on grass, now he just can't shake Nadal anywhere. His legacy is being tarnished by his boogeyman.

That's precisely it. He needs to draw the line in the sand in the US Open, and reclaim Wimbleton if he's going to hold on. Making a stand in the French Open would also be HUGE for Feds, but I don't think the last one's gonna happen.
