Most General Managers like to start their new jobs by making a "big splash", or a big move to put their mark on their new team. What will your mark be? A big bat or a strong arm? Sell your farm system for a blockbuster trade or work through the draft?
I'll play first as the Mariners so I guess my "big splash" will probably be to sell off just about everybody I can for some prospects because there's no single player that could turn that stinker of a team into a winner.

I can't wait for this game! I hope it's good! I sure do wish there were some people out there who could post whatever experiences they might have had by now...

Oakland: Resign Holliday, trade or dump Crosby, sign vet SP...that's just a start

I'd be curious to take the Astros as my first team...one of the worse teams in the MLB and one of, if not the worse minor league system in all of MLB. I'd probably start off by shipping Valverde and Tejada for prospects, though I wouldn't get much for Tejada. I'd listen to offers on Berkman (FA in 2012), Oswalt (2013) and Ca.Lee (2013)
Or I'd take the Rays, sell off prospects for upgrades up the middle and maybe a power bat for right field (or go with Joyce I suppose). My rotation would be Shields, Kazmir, Price, Garza and probably Sonnanstine since I'd be selling Wade Davis and Hellickson. With Beckham, I'd probably sell Brignac as well.

That would be interesting. Plus you'd have Anderson and Cahill in the minors just waiting to come up.

padres: trade kouzmanoff, giles, kyle blanks (move headley to 3rd), trade peavy if i can get anything for him. sign some crappy players to fill the holes until the youth develops.

I'll be the Yankees.
I'll move for Tex and CC. After that, I'll re-sign Pettitte and maybe get another starter.

Do we get to play the actual games or do we just watch? Kinda like NFL head coach?

yeah but I've heard in FoM that the minor league names are changed, so I hope I can figure out who's who, otherwise it does me no good in the game. :)

I know the Oakland Farm System very well, so maybe this game will help me figure out the others as well. I hope the minor league players are close to their actual ratings, or have the "potential" that player has. Having Billy Beane help with the game cant hurt our farm system......

The Pirates have slowly been rebuilding for how long now? 20 years? And I'm guessing an OF that spots both Dunn and Anderson in the corners is going to give up a bunch of RAA (runs above average). Why not save that money and spend it on pitching or O.Hudson who would be a free agent, or Wigginton who I think would be an improvement on Crede and let the young guys like McCutchen, Pearce or Moss take over the OF in the meantime. They should be ready and well developed by your 3 year goal.

I am going to use the WhiteSox..My frist move will be trading Dye,Thome,Knoerko, for prospects..then with the money I will be saving switching to geico. I should be able to pick up some better players...

My first big Splash would be with the Braves in which I would try to package together a deal with Morton/Reyes and Blanco/Anderson for a power LF Bat possibly Corey Hart (I don't want to block Heyward but would perfer an upgrade in power while maintaining speed) and call up Schaffer to start CF opening day...Also listen to offers for Rafael Soriano and Gorky's....

Honestly, I think my first big splash would be to find a way to build a fresh league from scratch and give everyone the change to start building from the ground up.. I imagine everyone will go racing for the best teams up front.. and then once they start to fade out, so would the owners.
It's the eternal frustration of setting up sim leagues like this.. finding a solid core of competent owners who can take both winning and losing with the same level of interest.. =(

I would play as the Brewers and make sure CC and Sheets come back. I wouldn't pick up Mike Camrons option to free up 10 mil to do so. Then try to deal Bill Hall and J.J. Hardy to aquire a young arm like Slowly and free up the money from Hall. If there is cap room look to sign a FA outfielder like Adam Dunn. Then finally find the right package of prospects to deal for a MLB ready power bat at 3rd like Zimmerman.
Lineup:
CF Cory Hart
RF Adam Dunn
LF Ryan Braun
1B Prince Fielder
3B Ryan Zimmerman
2B Rickie Weeks
SS Alcides Escobar
C Jason Kendell
Rotation:
CC Sabathia
Ben Sheets
Yovani Gallardo
Slowly
Manny Parra
If I can find a way to unload Souppan's contract I'd have the room to have about 15 mil to spread over the bullpen. If not it would leave me with only like 3 to 5 which means I prolly wouldn't be able to bring in Dunn.

Mets
Go back in time, sign Raul Ibanez, come back to the present Sign Manny Ramirez.
Find a 2B and a C.
and a 5th starter.
Dump Delgado whenever I get the chance - offseason?

A roster of Ibanez and Ramirez? You might as well just plant a couple of trees in the corner outfield spots. They'll field more fly balls...

u dont screw around w/ RaBa, he's a beast.
and don't worry about Manny, we'll play Reyes in the OF grass, he'll get shallow fly balls...plus Beltran's got range...

Speaking as a fan and resident of Seattle, I've had the EXTREME misfortune of seeing Ibanez take the field everyday. He missing just about everything going his direction.
Don't get me wrong. He is a fantastic hitter. BUT his fielding is so poor, that he makes up for it. He only ends up being about 1 win over a replacement level player over the course of a year.
So yeah. If you're playing the Mets (Lol or the Phillies) then don't get "RaBa." If you're Tampa Bay or some other team with a DH spot. Go nuts.

Once in like 10 years of playing the field isn't a very good ratio.
Pick you want, I'm just telling you who NOT to pick if you want to win. Any value you'd get from a flyball pitcher with him and Manny would be moot.

I sign Manny Ramirez for 2 yrs if he'll take my money and trade SP/RP JohnathanSanchez for as good a bat as I can get.
I'm not going to be an idiot like some posters and pretend like this is going to be "reality" baseball because it won't.

Well. I'm pretty sure that was a jab at me, HOWEVER, if they did their job right, you'd notice a big difference in defense if you threw Manny in the field vs someone who was capable. That's all I'm saying. I'm probably hoping too much that it works as well as OOTP...
