In 2008 the Baltimore Orioles started the season off on a bright note. There pitching was doing very well when it came down to it the pitching staff just could not deliver. After yet another loosing season. The Orioles tryed a different approach by signing Andy Mcphail to lead are off season aquisitions and make this franchise where they used to be. That is a .500 club. after a 68-93 season and a disquisting 37-43 Homerecord, fans stoped showing up to see there hometown team play ball. But this offseason they looked a different path. They decided to take there path across seas for the first time and signed Koji Uehara
http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv330/MeeKay08/Uheara.jpg
to a major league deal...this waz the first of many signings and transactions this offseason for the O's

One of the many off-season moves made was a out of the blue trade that sent Catcher Ramon Hernandez to the Cincinnati Reds for some cash and for Utility specialist Ryan Freel

The next so called big move was the Orioles signed Veteran Southpaw Mark Hendrickson
http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv330/MeeKay08/Mark.jpg
since winning the world series with the Florida Marlins he has bounced around from the dodgers, giants and Rays. He may have fount a new home for the Baltimore Orioles as he will command the Number to spot behind fellow ace Jeremy Guthrie and they hope for him to eat innings and give the younger Pitchers some time to Develop

Then 4 days later the O's make more noise by trading Reliever Randor Beird to the Boston Redsox for fellow top 5 prospect reliever David Pauley
http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv330/MeeKay08/Pauly.jpg

and in the same day also Traded Garret Olson and Henry Williamson who are both relievers for Cubs 2007 Number 1 prospect Felix Pie
http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv330/MeeKay08/Pi.jpg
who could possibly Man the left field Spot or man the center field spot moving Adam Jones to left field

Meekay08

So far this off-season the Orioles have made alot of noise. 2 weeks ago they signed Right Fielder Nick Markakis
http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv330/MeeKay08/2006081516574168_5.jpg
to a 6 Year 66.1 Million dollar Contract with a mutual year in 2015

Then a day later signed formal Blue Jays starting catcher and was the 2nd round pick by the Orioles in 1988 Gregg Zaun to a 1 year 1.5 million dollar contract. he is here to basically help Top Prospect Matt Wieters to develop into the Orioles Starting Catcher
http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv330/MeeKay08/zaun_gregg_vertical_260.jpg

Just recently the Orioles traded a Player TBA for Cubs Starting Pitcher Rich Hill
http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv330/MeeKay08/06BB07-06074HillWeb.jpg
and then 3 days later Signed Ex Astro Ty Wiggington
http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv330/MeeKay08/1246.jpg

Also the orioles singed Ex St. Louis Cardinal Short Stop Cesar Izturis To Add defense up the middle and speed and contact to the Lineup
http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv330/MeeKay08/IBVfdzkb.jpg

Other then a couple minor Signings to fill the AAA minor league roster up for spring training this has been the big moves the Orioles have made this off-season. As of right now the O's are still in the hunt for Ex cardinal Starting pitcher Braden Looper
http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv330/MeeKay08/braden-looper-st-louis-cardinals-st.jpg
and trying to resign Brian Roberts
http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv330/MeeKay08/34252107.jpg
Roberts is wanting a 4 year extension but so far the Orioles have only offered himm a 3 year 29 Million dolar contract but that just is not cutting it

Many inconsistencies in your posts....
Andy MacPhail is not trying to make this team a .500 team. He is trying to bring this team to the playoffs.

The Ramon Hernandez trade did not come from out of the blue, the Orioles traded him in order to create space for Wieters down the line

Mark Hendrickson will not demand the #2 spot. The O's already said that Koji Uehara will have the #2 spot.

Other things you missed: Orioles sign Chris Gomez, Jolbert Cabrera

Meekay08
February 4th, 2009, 07:31 AM
Ya, Jolbert Cabrera was signed yesterday, he playing in japan for 2 years before making his return last year for the Reds Hitting .252 with 126 Plate apperances...but i highly doubt he will make the roster with fellow young utility players like Freddy Bynum, Scott Moore and Mike Costanzo. Also i head different about the pitching rotation but we will see. And i did mostly the Big moves and not alot of th esmall moves like chris gomez, Jolbert cabrera, and Craig Brazil. And yes, the Ramon Hernadez trade paved the way for Matt Wieters to take the starting job but they still must be kindof causous of his development by signing Gregg Zaun and not letting Quirmo Qiuroz ( i think thats how u say his name lol) take the backup job. but this year will be very confusing and crazy on how we use all this talent.

February 4th, 2009, 11:44 AM
Freddie Bynum was signed by the Nationals. Scott Moore will not make the major league team, especially with the addition of Wigginton. Michael Constanzo is not being talked about at all.

Rotation:
1. Guthrie
2. Uehara
3. Looper (if we sign him); if not, Hill
4. Hill; if we don't sign Looper then Hendrickson/Penn/Pauley/Waters/Liz
5. Hendrickson/Penn/Pauley/Waters/Liz

Meekay08
February 4th, 2009, 12:37 PM
1. Guthrie
2. Uehara
3. Hendrickson
4. Hill
5. Baez/Patton/Liz/Albers

i really dont think we will use David Pauley as a starter...he could be a good reliever for us...I think because of Matt Albers play last year he has the best chance of making that last spot...but we did promise Danny Baez that we will give him a shot at starting. Also i really like Troy Patton who we got in the Miquel Tejada deal last year

Well ill give u my Predicted lineups and pitching rotation

Batting Order/ Positions

1. 2B Brian Roberts
2. LF Adam Jones
3. RF Nick Markakis
4. 1B Aubrey Huff
5. 3B Melvin Mora
6. C Greg Zaun/ Matt Wieters...itll be Matt Wieters if he makes the roster
7. DH Luke Scott
8. CF Felix Pie
9. SS Cesar Izturis

Pitching Rotation

1. Jeremy Guthrie
2. Koji Uehara
3. Rich Hill
4. Mark Hendrickson
5. I have no clue

duffman141
February 8th, 2009, 08:36 PM
2. LF Adam Jones
8. CF Felix Pie

4. Mark Hendrickson
5. I have no clue

Pie is playing in left. Jones isn't moving and won't bat 2nd this year. They also don't want Hendrickson to start, but he might have to. I see Albers, Liz, Penn, or Pauley taking the 4 and 5 spots. Maybe Simon if they liked his Carribean League start. Patton won't make it this year because of his shoulder.

Meekay08
February 8th, 2009, 08:47 PM
IDK..jones bated second alot last year before he hurt himself...he will be a good 2 hitter..and they said hendrickson is starting...we need him to eat innings..i really like Albers.. and i know we giving danny baez a chance to start but i doubt thatl be effective...we scouted Liz as a set up man so i think we should put him in nullpen and david pauley gives us a good solid middle ining man so we need him in bullpen

Meekay08
February 8th, 2009, 08:51 PM
And i saw at the Fanfest they put an idea because Adam jones ganed like 30 more pounds he may move to Left Field because Felix has more range and is quicker

duffman141
February 8th, 2009, 08:56 PM
what fanfest?

Meekay08
February 8th, 2009, 08:59 PM
for High school prospects...we got to go and meet the proples and they were talking about there future and stuff...i went like a 3 weeks ago..maybe 2

duffman141
February 8th, 2009, 09:02 PM
that wouldn't be a good idea. adam jones was fine last year in center and jones said that the weight was all muscle and that he is quicker now than last year, so i don't see him moving.

AeroZach
February 8th, 2009, 09:03 PM
Pie's got incredible range. Baltimore would be stupid not to play him in Center.

I was never a Felix Pie fan. I was, however, a BIG Rich Hill fan. Crossing my fingers he does well for you guys, and for that reason (not to mention I can tell you're a pretty cool guy around these parts, Meekay), I will follow this chise

Ya, on MASN yesterday...They did a interview with Rich Hill ( who i waz a big fan when he played for chicago) he said that his wildness problems last year were because he had back problems...he said hes fine now...but i mean if he accualy gets it together he could be a great number 3 and possibly number 2...who knows if he has a really great season..he could be are Ace next season..i think hes goin to be great this year..and for fELIX pIE..IF HE SHOWS himself i think he will play center full duty and move Adam to the Corner in Left

Pie really needs to prove himself if he continues to play like he did in Chicago. I'm actually glad he's gone, just like McFailure to pick up our trash (not an O's bash, I just hate Andy McPhail :D)

Hill was one of the best starters I saw for the Cubs in awhile, even when we sucked in 2006 he was VERY good. When healthy, Hill has just a NASTY curve that, if he can locate it, could get just about anyone. The best curve I saw in a Cubs rotation since before Wood got injured after 1998.

February 8th, 2009, 09:21 PM
Ya man..i saw Pie play in college and met him in real life twice..he sounds like a great guy and when i talked to him he sounded very happy to have a fresh start in a new city.....i really think he will prove himself this year..i think thats all he needed was a change of scenery...and Rich Hill does have a nasty curve man...its like a power curves but has so much drop just like Barry Zitos 12-6...its so wicked

Ya...but i have to disagree...i know before Andy Mcphail has been a S*** Canner but so far for us hes accualy doing a very good job..this is the first offseason in awhile we have been active and made many moves that i never thought we could make...we will see how he fairs for us this season...what we really need is Angelos to sell the franchise to the Ripkens then we may get somewhere

Cal Ripken Jr. and George Brett are my 2 favorite non Cub players

CrazyCougar
February 9th, 2009, 05:56 AM
There has been talk over the past few years of Ripken being interested in purchasing the Orioles along with a few investors. Btu Angelos is too money hungry. He could care less if the O's win a championship. He just wants to monetary benefits from owning a major league team. I cant stand Angelos. Arrogant *****.

Cubfan
February 9th, 2009, 06:51 AM
We went through that with the Tribune Company for awhile, why win when wrigley is full every game. I would love to see ripken own the o's

Meekay08
February 9th, 2009, 11:22 AM
I mean having cal owning the team...he will go out..with his money and get a high paid picture like angelos will not do..he goes out and signs Mark Hendrickson while Ripken would of went for Johan Santana or like this year try to trade for Jake Peavy...i hope Ripken does buy the team

there isn't any point in getting peavy or santana for the orioles because they would cost a lot of money and prospects. that would be like what the rangers did with a-rod. you can't spend money on one guy until you know that that guy will win a world series for you or else you'll be stuck with a slightly better record and no money to improve. also, cal owning the team wouldn't mean that hey have a larger payroll. i agree that angelos is horrible, but your ideas for moves would never happen because the o's are rebuilding.

CrazyCougar
February 9th, 2009, 01:07 PM
I think just having the Ripkens present as ownership would be all the help in the world for the team, fans and city of Baltimore. I agree, Cal would not be frivolous with money, although I have to wonder if he would have tried a little harder for Texierra. In the end, its obvious though, Texierra did not want to be in Baltimore, so its better he is not there with that 180 million paycheck. We really do need a solid Ace on the staff, and hopefully one of these young arms in our system will prove to be that guy. Would I like to see a guy like Santana or Peavy? Absolutelym but not at the cost it would take to get them during rebuilding years.

Meekay08
February 9th, 2009, 05:03 PM
ya..i hear wat ya saying but i waz just throwing an idea out there that Ripken would not be Conservative with his money...if he saw someone out there in free agency that can help this ballclub win a penate..he would do what it took to sign that player....and on to the one of are young arms to be are ace..i really like charles tillman..he waz looking very good last year ant the same with Jake aretia...but i really liked are first round pick in the draft last year with brain Matsuz from S.D. state....they say he will move fast thru are farm system just like wieters..so we will see

duffman141
February 9th, 2009, 05:17 PM
you need to check your facts and spelling. Brian Matusz (not Brain Matsuz) went to San Diego, not SD State. it's also chris tillman, not charles and arrieta, not aretia. they are also trying to let matusz develop first as well.

I've been around since 2006, but I come and go with the wind when it comes to posting..LOL! usually around game releases you'll see me a lot more. Especially baseball.

I dont expect to see Matusz this year. And honestly I hope he doesnt come up. He needs to mature and be ready instead of thrown to the dogs of the AL East. Those bats can kill any young pitchers ego.

Meekay08
February 9th, 2009, 05:27 PM
o0 im sry duffman...i dont know players names by heart with correct spelling lol...i go off what i know..and thats O's basbeall...Brian needs to develope but i think the first one we will see is tillman cuz he pitched in triple A last year

CrazyCougar
February 9th, 2009, 05:33 PM
Regardless, these kids need a lot of confidence before coming to the show. Its the Al East we are talking about and it can break any young pitcher facing the Yanks and Red Sox.

duffman141
February 9th, 2009, 05:43 PM
tillman never pitched in triple a. he stayed in bowie all year. i can tell you're an orioles fan, but you shouldn't talk about things you don't know about.

Meekay08
February 9th, 2009, 06:09 PM
i wanted to ask you cougar...what u think on when brandon snyder will make it to the bigs... and the same with billy rowell and because of all the Outfield depth we got now do u think are plans with Nolan reimold are over?

CrazyCougar
February 9th, 2009, 06:14 PM
I think the Orioles will continue to develop the talent whether its our up and coming outfielders or the young pitchers. While the Orioles may seem confident in the talent they have at the big league level currently, that could all change come spring training. Those supposed big leaguers could end up making a roster spot for folks like Rowell, Reinhold, Liz, Albers, etc...

Meekay08
February 9th, 2009, 06:26 PM
Ya but Nolan Reimold was told this year was suppose to be his season..all reports indicated that he would of platooned with luke scott in left because of the release of Jay Payton...but then we go out and trade and get Felix pie and ryan freel.....maybe ty wigginton...they said yesterday his physical came back as a red flag so who knows wats up wit him....i mean Reimold is 25...played a full year last year in triple A and the season before that in AA...we are inviting him to spring training and i think he can beat out lou montanez for a bench job....now for billy rowell the dud eis only 19 but i hear so much about this dude...he hit a 535 foot homerun and hes 19...and no he didnt take steroids lol....and we are inviting Chris Tillman to spring training and to be honest with u i think he will make the team

CrazyCougar
February 9th, 2009, 06:42 PM
Ah are you sure Rowell didnt take steroids? In todays game, there are more taking than not. Just not getting caught, yet. Spring Training can answer a lot of questions and leave a lot of questions as well. I honestly dont know how many guys, especially non roster invites, will make the team. I really think the O's will go with what they have. Tough luck for Reinhold, but there is more to be seen on that yet i think. Promises are quickly broken in baseball. And not passing a physical is definitely a bad thing for any young prospect trying to make the team.

Yea the light rail stops right in front of it...... Section 70 isnt bad. I believe they are right near the bullpen. Cant wait, The O's are gonna the Rays of this year and come out of nowhere! Ty Wigginton is a somewhat decent aqcuisition for the O's, Mark hendrickson and Rich Hill hopefully will light it up unexpectedly..... I think every acquisition that the Orioles made this offseason waz a great one and in some way it helped us more than one way.......the only real moved that kinda got me off guard waz the Mark hendrickson...there waz so many better pitchers out there we could of got at the same price or possibly a cheaper price then a washed up 35 Year Old southpaw....i would honeslty rather see Chris Tillman take his spot in the rotation

Well welcome back Oriole fans, this is Jim Palmer from MASN studios for another great year of Orioles Baseball at Camden Yards. Well yesterday Was the first day of spring training and it was exciting and we saw old faces and alot of new faces. While down at the field we got a chance to hear a couple words from Dave Trembley " Its great to see everyone out here and seeing that everyone stayed in shape and there showing what it takes to mak this ball club" While walking around the field we bumped into a couple new faces " This is just crazy, it feels like High School baseball tryouts all over again, so many faces, i dont know how to describe it...i just dont" Said Pitcher Invitee Chris Tillman. Tillman was aquired last year from the Mariners who was one of the players in the Erick Bedard deal. " It feels great here, i allrdy made a couple new friends and got caught up with some old freinds. I talked to adam Jones lastnight on th ephone and we talked for about 2 hours about how Dave (Trembley) likes hard work ethic. I told him thx by the way Haha". While moving around the stadium we bumped into 2008 First round pick Brian Matsuz and asked him how it felt to be here at Camden Yards " God it feels great, just to be here with the big guyz, in the show, its just great, just to let u know this is nothing like San Diego. It was funny because i remember after i got drafted i signed very late so i watched alot of O's baseball and just a couple months ago i was watching Jeremy (Guthrie) on T.V. and bam hes right beshide me throwing warmups, its just a dream come true". But Matsuz isnt the biggest story in town. Now the buggest story in town Is Number One Prospect Catcher Matt Wieters. We asked Brian (Matsuz) how it felt throwing to another 1st Round pick and the NUmber 1 prospect in baseball. " It feels funny because we both are first round picks but hes The Number one prospect in baseball and i have no clue where i rank, i really dont. I really dont notice though becasue hes just another player trying to make a name for himself in baseball. We talked for alittle before practice and we went over my signs and man did he learn quick, hes a great character and hes what this ball club needs right now. Hes a great guy and he can be a great leader". After Warmups were over we made are way to the Number one Prospect and exchanged a few words on how it feels to be here and what of him being on the opening day roster " It just feels amazing, just 2 years ago i was a All American at Georgia tech and now I have a chance to be a Baltimore Oriole. The whole making the roster thing doesnt really bother me but who wouldnt want to make the Opening Day roster and be a Major League Catcher. But i am here to help this team be better, it was the soul reason why i was drafted here, and if making this team better is by starting in Norfolk then let it be, but if th ebest way for me to contribute is to be th eopening day catcher for this club then let it be, i cannot do anything else but work my hardest and show them why i am Major League Ready, the rest is up to Dave (Trembley) and the big guys upstairs". As the day rounded up we got another talk with Dave Trembley and Orioles Ace Jeremy Guthrie about this years pitching staff and he had some intersting words " Ya that part is not figured yet. All we know of right now is this is Jeremys Rotation. He is the Ace of this ball club and after that its up in the air. There are 35 other pitchers out there competeing for a spot in that rotation and when we find the right players then we will have are staff" Jeremy had few Wrods after that " I dotn know what to say, I guess this is my staff, but i dont consider myself safe just yet, we have alot of talent out there right now and who knows what could happen, i mean im just glad i get to be apart of this organization and being the Ace is just an honor". Lastly we got to hear a few words from new GM Mike Ross " I am here to win, not loose. My mission this year is to make this team a championship calabor team and nothing else". Also asked about the fellow Possible pitching Rotations and Lineups he gave us this answer " I do not know just yet, its th esecond day of camp and you are asking me this allready. I have another interview later and i will discuss this but on to the next question". " Umm yes, Mr. Ross, what is your take on the Brian Roberts Deal, any production yet". " Right now im focused on getting a 40 man roster, we couldnt get that settled during th ewinter meetings so now it has to wait later in the season". So has the interview quickly ended after a couple few words we are ready for another day in spring training tomorrow. As for me that is it. Have a great night oriole Fans.

But if you are a true baseball Fan you have heard about this guy
http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv330/MeeKay08/Mattwiterssnapshot.jpg
Matt Wieters is projected the number one prospect iin basebal this year and he has showed in the past that he deserves it. since being drafted in 07 with the first round pick.. the switch hitting catcher out of Gerogia Tech signed the same day signing deadlines for draft picks was suppose to end. Because he was signed late he could not start playing baseball in the Orioles Organization until next season. So while he waited he played winter ball in hawaii and one MVP of the league. Then when the 08 season started he just started obliterating the SInlge A pitching and before he knew it he was promoted to AA Bowie were he also made pitchers look fullish. now heading into his second season he has a chance to make the Orioles roster and ****ibly help the team have a winning season which they have not tasted in 10 years...no matter where Matt starts i have predicted he will be the player to watch and win AL rookie of the year

On February 19th the orioles came to terms on a 4-year extensoion with 2nd Baseman Brian Roberts The Baltimore Sun reports that Brian Roberts' contract extension with the Orioles will be worth $40 million over four years.

Roberts will make $8 million this season, so the extension would keep him in Baltimore through 2013. According to the newspaper the deal is expected to become official by week's end.

Interview with Orioles GM Ross: The Rebuilding Story

http://www.portersprospects.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/orioles-logo.gif

Preston: today on marshall and preston we have Orioles GM Ross, thank you for joining us today

GM Ross: Thanks for having me, its a pleasure to be on your show

Preston: okay so this offseason has been pretty wild, can you take us through it?

GM Ross: Ya it has, With us bringing Andy Mcpahil in we knew that somthing like this would happen, he is a great guy and knows what needs to be done to win. The first day in office he told us that he thought Wieters (Matt) was ready for the bigs and to make his name in the Orioles Franchise, so he traded away Ramon and got back a veteran in ryan freel. He also fount a couple good little deal involinvg the Cubs on aquiring Felix Pie and Rich Hill. Also for the first time we expanded are out of country Signings and singed Koji Uehara. Mcpail has been the main reason for are wild Offseason and i give him all the credit.

Preston: So what about yourself, now that your the GM do you plan on making any moves yourself?

GM Ross: I have not decided yet, i mean it has been a week since spring training started and position players showed up thursday and so far i am liking wat im seeing so far from are young guys and are Veterans. But one thing is sure, we still need that veteran pitcher. Me, Mcphail ( Andy) and Angelos (Peter) have been watching closey on the Ben Sheets story. We dont know yet but just keep an eye out for that.

Preston: okay so we know you have a great prospect coming up by the name of Matt Wieters, what would you like to say about him?

GM Ross: Hes amazing and hes been everything we thought when we drafted him last year with the 6th overal pick in the draft. Watching him thru rookie ball with the keys was just amazing and then when he went on too play for Bowie he just demolished the pitching and made them look rediculous. This kid is the real thing and know matter hwat happens this year, that pertaining if he makes the club out of spring trainign or starts in AAA and gets called up 2 or 3 months into the season, he will turn this franchise around and i know Me, Peter (Angelos) and And (McPhail) will choose whats best for this organization

Preston: which move that you guys made this offseason is going to have the biggest impact on the team this year?

GM Ross:
I think all the moves we degerated this year will benefit to are cause, but if I had to choose one it will be Re-Signing Nick Markakis. This franchise needs another face in this era. Back then it was Cal Ripken and this franchise really needs to move on from that. Solidifying Nick Markakis as are Rightfielder until 2015 gives us a young talent to build around and that is what we are doing. Like i said all of are moves will benefit this club but that move is possibly yhe biggest and will help us the most.

Preston: Its obvious that this team wants to win now, judging by some of the moves you have made, what do you think is your biggest hole?

GM Ross: Not to single anyone out but its still are pitching. Are pitching rotation has struggled many years and is the number one cause for are 10 loosing season in a row. I think are offense is where it has to be to win a World Series, But are pitching needs help. We finally have a solid ace in Jeremy Guthrie but after that its up in the air. We have 37 pitchers out there competing for a spot in this rotation and anyone has a chance. But without a doubt are biggest hole is are starting rotation.

Preston: Guthrie's numbers point to him being your ace as you said, but do you think that he has cy young potential?

Gm Ross: I really think he does...hes a former first round pick for the cleveland indians and you are not chose first in a draft for no reason. I mean if he played for the Yankees or the Red Sox, one of those big teams he could win 20 games a season and possibly a Cy- Young. But here the last couple of years we didnt have a strong Bullpen to hold leads and not to mention Camden Yards is not a Pitcher Friendly field, so yes he has the potential to win or compete for a cy young, its just that are offense needs to produce when hes out there and when hes on the bench late in innings are Bullpen needs to hold the leads for him.

Preston: okay last question, where do you picture the Orioles at the end of the season?

GM Ross: I picture the Orioles Champions, no matter were are record will fall or what place we are in. These are the Rebuilding years and i think what we have waited on can take its toll soon. I can see us as another Tampa Bay Rays story because we have what it takes this year with a strong Bullpen, great offense and lineup, were mixed with power and average as also Young and old, we just need to get are starting rotation solidified and i think we could make a run

Preston: okay thank you for the interview.

GM Ross: No problem, anytime ya want to have me back on just give me a call. And again thanks for having me. Its been a pleasure

Felix Pie's visa issues mean he still hasn't reported to Orioles camp and manager Dave Trembley admitted the length of the absence has become worrisome.

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv330/MeeKay08/felixpie-pub.jpg

The O's had been planning to give Pie every chance to win the starting left field job but the longer he's held up the further behind everyone else he is going to be once he arrives. "It's getting to the point where it is important for him to get here," Trembley said. "We're going to start playing games, and I want to get him acclimated to his new teammates and the coaching staff. I'll feel a whole better when he gets here." The Orioles hope to finally hear some news about Pie's status today since the U.S. consulate in the Dominican Republic was closed over the weekend.

Upon arriving at Orioles camp, Melvin Mora offered gaudy predictions for his 2009 season.
".340, 20-plus and 100-plus, and help the team win," Mora said. He didn't mention that .340 would be 55 points higher than he hit last season.

Hey Meekay08, I got the game a couple days ago and started a franchise with the Detroit Tigers. I'm in the fourth game of my season and one of the MLB Headlines was, "Mark Weathers makes much anticipated MLB debut". I clicked on it, and it showed him as the Orioles rookie, and he was 1-4 with a Grand Slam HR. Wonder why your game doesn't have him yet?

Mikes Recap:
All in all it was a ok game. I mean what else could u say, it was the Yankees here not the bear stean bears. We got to CC Sabathia for alot of hits but we just couldnt capitalize. Jeremy Guthrie pitched a excelent game for the O's nut the offense just couldnt capitalize. Aubrey Huff had a big night with 3 hits including a RBI single driving in Brian Roberts for the O's only run. As for the Yankees Brett Gardner, Derek Jeter and A-Rod AKA steroid man all had 1 RBI each. Well tomorrow Rich Hill is on the mound and we will hope the O's can accumilate better offense for Rich.

Mikes Recap:
What a Game! A.J. Burnett pitched very well in the first inning and i thought i was in for a long night. But in the second inning Top Prospect Matt Wieters came thru with a RBI single driving Aubrey Huff WHo had a Double the bat Before. When it came down to the clutch who better than Nick Markakis to step up to the plate with a man on 3rd and 2nd and he smacked a single to Right Field which bounced against the wall. Cesar Izturis scored easily but brian Roberts Rounded third base destined to score and he did out beating the throw with a dive at Home Plate. Rich Hill had a solid performance alowing only 6 Hits but he had no Strike Outs which waz upsetting but all in all he pitched well. Chris Ray came in on a bad situation with bases loaded and only let up 2 Runs in the effort but kept his head in the game and pitched well for th erest of the game to aquire the win. Cya tomorrow night at camden yards for the series finnaly against the Yankees and hope we win the series.

Mikes Recap:
So as i wind up the series with the Tampa Bay Rays i noticed one thing, my Young arms have shown signs of greatness and promise to come. The first Game of the series Bradley Bergesen, a 23 Year old rookie who made the club as the fourth starter came in for his first ever major league start and it looked like he was a 10 year Vet. The second game, Radamez Liz took the mound and after a dissapointing year last year he waz given yet another chance this year as the 5th starter in the roation and he proved it waz a smart idea on Mcpails decision. Well the 3rd game ,Ace Jeremy Guthire got smacked around yet again. After his first outing against the Yankees being bad but not awful, this outing waz just terrible. 6 innings of pitching and he let up 11 hits which accumilated to 4 Runs. But the 1 bright spot in this game was The first Homerun of the year which was by Adam Jones. You Go Adam! Well this is it for this segment, cya In Texas!

Breaking Trade Rumor News

Reports out of Milwaukee Brewers camp is They are Shopping 2nd Baseman Rickie Weeks. Because of the sudden Emergence of Mike Lamb Last season and the upcoming prospect in Alcides Escobar, the Brewers are willing to move JJ Hardy to 2nd Base and with Mike Lamb as the utility man it would make Rickie Weeks Expendable. The Orioles are very interested in possibly aquiring This once promising young talent and could make a deal before the trade deadline.

Mikes Recap:
Rich Hills pitching performance was great. 7 Hits but managed to only let up 1 run which was Nelson Cruzs solo Shot. But this game was all about offense. As Adam Jones continues his doimnation in the #2 spot in the lineup . While only going 1-5, his lone hit the the nail in the coffin for the rangers as he hit a 2 Run Homer to straight dead center field to take the lead to a commanding 3-0 lead. Also Nick Markakis Turned it up also going only 1-5 but hitting a Solo Shot in the top of the 9th to deal extra damage and extend the lead for insurance runs. Also Aubrey Huff is still on Fire and possibly the hottest hittr in baseball righ tnow as he goes for a 4-5 appearance with 2 Doubles.

The Power for the O's started with there superstar Nick Markakis who hit a Solo shot in the 1st inning off Eric Hurley. The next big blow waz Melvin Moras solo shot in the second. The nail in the coffin came from Luke scott in the 4th inning who hit a 2 Riun Bomb that went over 510 Feet to dead center field off of a hangin slider. Koji Uehara had a solid outing getting his 2nd win of the season and in the 9th George sherril came in to get his second save of the season. Mikes Recap:
Well as the series comes to a end, get out ur brooms because the Rangers got swept by the hot streaking Birds. The power trend continued as Adam Jones hit his 3rd homerun in 4 games and leading these O's past the Rangers. the offense showed up early as like we said earlier Adam Jones taking Brandon McCarthy deep in the first inning on the first pitch he saw. Then in the 3rd inning Felix Pie hit a 2 Run SHot that waz a line drive straight down the Line and hit off the Foul Pole. But te biggest story was B-Rob Swiping 4 bases this game and 2 times were stealing 3rd. Also Luke Scott stole a base and so Did Adam Jones. Another Brilliant pitching performance by the Youngster Bradley Bergesen and earning his second Major League win...His palm ball struck out 5 baters. Well thats it for tonight, We have a off day tomorrow but we will see u Friday at Fenway Park to face the Boston Redsox.

Zaun played for Matt Wieters who needed a day off and just excelled in his oppurtunity. going 4-4 is a career game for the 36 year old catcher. Radames Liz pitched another great game and leadign to his 2nd win of the season. not much excitment to this game beshides the O's smacking the Red Sox around.

MASN Reports the Seattle Mariners have just offered the Baltimore Orioles Outfielder Wladimir Balentin For Luke Scott and Hayden Penn. This is really being considered a deal we could pull a trigger on, Loosing Luke Scott would be a big blow to are offense but acquiring Balentin would boost power and as it is a rebuilding year the youht of balentin is very much liked. But this trade will have thought because GM Ross and Coach McPhail have bigger problems which is the SS situation, and reliving Pitching situation. But we will see how this goes down. Also the talk between the Orioles and the Brewers have cooled down but Rickie Weeks is still on are radar. This is a story we will try to follow.

MASNS Recap:
This game was one for the books. The Orioles were out played, Out pitched, Out Hit and Out Hustled but still somehow came up with the win. Rich Hill had a strong game, while letting up 2 runs in the second inning he calmed down but that didnt stop the Red Sox bats as they kept piling hits after hit on Hill. The most exciting part of the game waz prolly Big Papi coming up to the plate in the bottom of the 9th with a man on 3rd and 2 outs. With a full count George Sherrill got him to fly out to Nick Markakis to end the ball game. George Sherrill picked up his 4th save of the season and the O's take the lead in teh series 2-1. Big news in this ball game was Starting Left Fielder Felix Pie got injured with a bruised hand and will miss 8 games. The Orioles do not know who will replace him Yet but top candidates are Ryan freel, Luke Scott or a call up from the minors in Nolan Reimold.

MASN Game Recap:
Bradley Bergesen, The Rookie pitcher out of Cal State Fullerton posted yet another impressive start for the Orioles has his record goes to 3-0. As the only pitcher on the staff to win all of his starts and get a decision, O's fans are starting to wonder if this kid is the real deal. With that said, does this mean Guthries job security is safe? Also the big role played today was Adam Jones who went 3-4 and hit 2 monsterous Home Runs. Adam Jones leads the O's with 5 Home Runs and not to mention last year he hit 9 the whole season. As porjected while in the Seattle Mariners farm system as a ShortStop he was a potential 30-35 Home Run guy and they said his arm strength and he had to much power for shortstop and therefore he was moved to the Outfield. I guess in his 3rd major league season his power is finnaly showing up.

MASN Game Recap:
Well this was a tough loss for the thriving Orioles. Radhames Liz came into this game with a record 2-0 with a ERA of 0.00, But that ddint last long as the White Soxed puanched in Lizs first Earned run of the season in the 2nd inning. But the most damage came in the Top of the 4th when Carlos Quentin smacked a grand slam off of Liz to take th elead 6-3 and the O's could never recouperate. Offensively Adam Jones stayed hot by hitting out his 6th Homer of the season and finnaly Aubrey Huff Hit his first Homer of the season. Also Rookie catcher Matt Wieters got a Homerun in his stats with a deep shot to Left Field.

MASN reports the Orioles and Mariners have just came to terms with a deal. The deal would send Outfielder Luke Scott who lately has been disappointed with his role on with the club and wants to be a starter full time and With the injury's of Ken Griffey this gives him a chance to start and moved Jeff Klement to Catcher everyday and Kenji Jojima at DH. The Other player in the deal is Veteran Pitcher Adam Eaton, a late pickup in spring training and made the final roster never saw any time out the bullpen. In return the O's get Outfielder Wladimir Balentien who requested a trade because he was getting no playing time in the Outfield with ichiro manning Right, Griffey manning left and Gutierrez manning center. For the O's he will fill in for Felix Pie while he is injured in Left Field and when he returns Balentien wil move to DH duty. The othe rplayer in the deal was Reliever Cesar jimenez, the orioles needed a lefty specialists out of the bullpen because other than George Sherrill they had no other leftys.

Meekay, great franchise thread. I'm just about to start playing through an Orioles franchise myself.

I have a question - In most of your games, I notice you manage to keep errors in check. I've played a few exhibition games as the Orioles, but always seem to have an issue with errors at first base - at least 2 or 3 times a game, Huff is off the bag when the throw comes in, and instead of getting the out, the runner is safe and an error is recorded. Do you have a technique for getting around this issue in 2K9, or have the slider changes cut down on this? Thanks!!

Ya man...its just a Bug that 2K needs to fix...umm i started Ty Wigginton at first and he did great but alot of times its 2K bro....only player that had consistent errors was Luke Scott now hes gone...chekc my one game i had 5 erros...Luke Scott was 4 of them...But thx man about saing u like my thread..trying to mak eit has interesting as i can and getting some good feedback but alot of times it isnt Aubrey Huff but he tends for me to drop alot of bals when i make the throw to him for some odd reason

Well this was a game that went all the way down to the wire. Rich Hill had his first bad outing of the year today getting smacked around for 4 Runs on 10 Hits. Balentien stays hot as he hits his 2nd Homerun in 2 days as he plays his second game as a Oriole. Hubrey Huff also joined him in the homerun department but the biggest blow was Nick Markakis in the bottom of the 9th. Nick Markakis has been having a quite season for the Os as Adam Jones has stole alot of the spotlight this season but Nick Markakis showed up big tonight with a walkoff HR in the bottom of the 9th with a full count and 2 outs.Eddy Guardo seems to throw a late breaking fastball when Nick pulled it down the Right field line and it smacked the foul post. Also Newley aquired Lefty Specialist Cesar Jimenez pitched1 inning of scoreless ball while stirking out 1 and walking none to get his first win of the season.

Bradley Bergesen Pitched a amazing game as he now roles to 4-0 in his rookie campaign. He made this ranger lineup just look dreadfully awful. He allowed 4 Hits and no runs with 10 Ks and not to mention he got his first shutout of his career. The 0"s Offense didnt do much until late the 3rd inning when Adam Jones connected for his 7th Homerun of the season. After that the o's didnt collect another hit until the 7th inning and thats when they did there damage to starter Eric Hurley who suffered his 4th loss of the season and his 2nd to the Orioles this season.

Another game in the books and what a game it was. Radhames Liz pitched a great game only allowing 1 run on 9 Hits. But the man who stole the show was Nick Markakis yet again, this tame hitting 3 Homeruns in this game. I dont know what was up with him, and all homeruns were on 3-0 counts, they werent pitching to him and when the did they threw a juicy one over the heart of the plate.

2005 First Round Draft Pick Given Shot in Majors?

MASN Reports A strong source from the Orioles complex in Owings Mills has talk about Former First Round Pick Brandon Snyder possibly having a stint in the Majors this season. Two years ago, the situation was quite different. Snyder, the 13th overall selection in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft, was coming off a disastrous season that saw him dislocate his right shoulder and tear the rotator cuff in his left one. The Orioles moved him out from behind the plate to First Base and his bat began to blossom. Snyder batted .283 with 11 home runs for Class A Delmarva in 2007, a modest bounce-back season considering his injuries. And then last year, he batted .315 with 13 home runs for Class A Frederick, cementing his comeback. All of a sudden, Snyder looked like the player he was expected to be all the way back on Draft Day.With all these rumors that Aubrey Huff could be delt, This could be the chance Snyder has been waiting for ever since being drafted back in 05.

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv330/MeeKay08/Snyderhut.jpg
Brandon Snyder will have to survive a test at Triple-A Norfolk, but after that, it appears the O's might be willing to give him a look in the Majors.

I lost this game because of no offense and thats that. Guthrie pitched a great game and suffered his 3rd loss of the season. The Adam Jonesless Lineup just could not hit. Greg Zaun didnt do anything while filling in for Matt Wieters. Also Felix Pie is still out with his Injury and they still have a hole in there lineup.

Ervin Santana was just to much for the Birds today. As they didnt record there first hit till the 3rd inning. Rich hill got bombed today and only lasted 3 Innings. Though the Relief efforts from Matt Albers and Chris Ray were excelent. On the offensive side, Aubrey Huff hit Solo shot to raise his leafue leading batting average and also Matt Wieters hit a Solo shot to add another strong stat to his great Rookie Campagin.

But the down news is Chris Ray Suffered a Metatarsal Fracture and his Hurt for 52 days so he was placed on the 60 Day DL and also Felix Pie was finnaly placed on the Dl with a Bruised hand and a scratched Correlia and he will miss 15 days while on the 15 Day DL.

MASN Reports that the Baltimore Orioles Have placed Relieving Pitcher Chris Ray On the 60 Day DL with a Metatarsal Fracture and Fellow Teamate Left Fielder Felix Pie on the 15 day DL with a Bruised hand and a Scratched Correlia. With the injuries that occurred last game, it didnt take the O's long to respond. The Orioles have called up Hayden Penn from Triple A Norfolk. Hayden Penn was up as a rookie in 2004 at age of just 20 years old. He never fared in the Majors and didn't last long till he saw himself back down in Double A Bowie. The other call up is Nolan Reimold, a Prospect for many years in the Orioles farm system. Hes been plaqued with injuries almost his whole minor lague career while playing 6 full seasons down here but only staying healthy 3 seasons and only fnishing 2 seasons and one was last year with Triple A Norfolk. This could be the chance he was looking for has he has great Power potential and great defense.

Now Bradley Bergesen just made the Jays lineup look silly and got double digits Strike outs again for the 3rd time this season, This guy is developing great and is starting to prove why he deserved a spot in this rotation.

His strikeout pitch was not on though as he only struck out 1. Hayden Penn made his debut this season and pitched a scoreless 1 inning ball and right after that Geroge Sherrill came into the game to capitalize on another save oppurtunity and seaized the monet as he racked up his 10th save of the season

On the offensive side, Adam Jones led th ecomeback with a solo shot. then wieters followed later with a 2 Run shot. then in the 9th inning Matt Wieters hit a 3 Run bomb to tie the game at 8-8. But with Chris Ray Injured Dennis Sarfate had to come in and due his work and couldnt deliver as B.J. Uptin hit the walk off double.

Alcides Escobar Making A Great Play As He Jumps Out The Way Of Giants Outfielder Dave Roberts To Turn A Diuble Play

MASN Reports there is a deal imment with the Milwakee Brewers for Shortstop Alcides Escobar. Talks last year about a Escobar taking over the shortstop role if fellow shortstop J.J. Hardy would have been delt but that rumor came to a quick end ehrn J.J. Hardy became hot of late, smacking out 10 hgomers in the last month of the season. The Brewers have lost interest in Escobar when he waz in a tril case for alledigly beating his g/f after a club outing last october. The orioles are desperate for a Shortstop as cesar izturis has struggled of late with a horrible .125 Batting average with just 1 RBI. Now there were strong rumors that the Orioles were intersted in Escobars fellow teamate Rickie Weeks but sources say that his asking price was to high for the O's. Also the Brandon Wood offer is still on the table as Aubrey Huff continues to get big attention as he was placed on the trading block last week.

MASN Reports that the Orioles and the Brewers have came to a deal that would send Prospect Shortstop Alcides Escobar to the Baltimore Orioles for Shortstop Cesar Izturis and Top Propspect Pitcher David Hernandez. We got Dave Tremlbey and asked him what he thought of the deal and he had this to say " I think McPhail and Angelos did a great job on this trade, We all knew cesar was having a bad season and was not playing up to his standards and a change of scenary had to do it" Trembley Said. " And trading David Hernandez one of are best pitching prospects does hurt, but with the maturity Bradley Bergesen is showing this season,it gives us hope and confidence in Brian Matusz, Jake Arrietia and Chris Tillman." Also reported with this trade the O's have released Mark Hendrickson. Alcides Escobar is projected to step right into th elineup, if nto Donnie Murphy will play until Escobar is ready. Dave Tremlbey also had this to say " with loosing Cesar Izturis, we do loose a great defensive Shortstop but Alcides Escobar is only 22 Years of age and has alot fo time to pregress as one of the top Shortstops in the game and what better mentor to have then Brian Roberts

So wat another interesting game as thew O's just fall short again to the Rays as they get swiped in this short 2 game series. The lone bright spot was newley aquired Shortstop Alcides Escobar who came up to bat his first appearance as a Oriole and on the 4th pitch on a 3-0 count blasted a 3 run shot off of Matt Garza to tie the game at 3-3. But what was the nail in the coffin was Pat Burrells 2 Run shot to take a demanding 5-3 lead and they never looked back. Rich Hill got smacked again and brings his total W-L to a staggering 2-2.

Uehara pitched a decent game bbut just fell short of a win when Geroge Sherrill gave up the lead and blew the save. Cesar Imenez earned his 2nd win of th eseaosn in a relief effort.

Crazy Crazy night. This game just dragged on forever as it took 15 innings for this one to finish. Bradley Bergesen got his first no decision of the year as he lasted 7 innings of 2 run ball on 6 hits but while he pitched farely decent the O's just couldnt muster any runs. At one point in the game it looked like th eO's would finish the game in 9 innings as George Sherrill came into the game with a 4-2 lead to work with but struggled right off the bat. he let up 3 straigh thits to load the bases. Delmon young then hit a sac fly to Nick Markakis which made the game 4-3 then on the next pitch Michhal Cudyer rope da double down th eline which scored the tying run. After that the game was scorless till the top of the 15th when Justin Morneau hit a solo shot off of Jim Johnson to put the Twins up 5-4. Then in the the bottom of the 15th the O'sut up 3 straigh thits as they loaded the bases. Then Ty Wigginton came up to tie the game at 5-5. Balentien came up and flew out and with 2 outs it waz all up to Donnie Murphy, who waz 0-6 coming up to the plate tonight. Donnie Murphy worked the count to a full coutn and Joe Nathan threw his curveball down low and outside and Murphy hit ablooper that dropped to score the winning run.

Another game in the books and we had another long one. It took 15 Innings to finish this game and the O's couldnt come ot on top. Liz pitched well besides a 2 Run shot by Mark Texiera. Donnie Murphy answered back with a 2 run shot to tie the game but then Texiera hit another Homerun later on in the game and the O's couldnt bounce back. The biggest concern is Nick Markakis got hurt in this game and we dont know the full details yet.

Nick Markakis Down With An Oblique Strain!

MASN Reports that Nick Markakis suffered a Oblique Strain while diving a catch to rob Robinson Cano of a Double. He was successful in robbing him of the hit but afterward he felt discomfort in his chest area. Fellow teamate Brian Roberts called out the trainers when Nick Markakis fell to his knees and looking disgusted in pain. Nick Markakis is expected to miss up to 10-20 days. The Orioles have to decide what they will do in the mean time he is out. They allrdy lost Felix Pie and Ryan Freel is still hurting from a bruised finger.

Long Time Star Andruw Jones Flys High As Parrish Departs!

MASN Reports that the Baltimore Orioles have just came into agreements with the Texas Rangers to send Starting/Relief Pitcher John Parrish to the Rangers for Outfielder Andruw Jones. This deal was just struck out of nowhere as 2 games ago Orioles superstar Nick Markakis went down with a Oblique strain and is out for up to 10-15 days. Also this adds more depth as Wladimir Balentein can retake his full role as DH and Andre Jones will platoon with Ryan Freel in Right Field until Nick Markakis is back then one player out of Nolan Reimold, Ryan freel or Andruw Jones will go back to Triple A Norfolk. Andruw Jones not just brings extra pop to this lineup that is missing there league leader in Homeruns in nick Markakis but he also offers veteran Leadership, Somthing that this team really needs.

Well the Orioles Stop the sweep from happening but they still surrender the series falling 2-1 in the 3 game set. Todays game was way different then yesterdays game as Rich Hill was magnificent on the mound by letting up no runs on only 6 Hits. But his great game came to a sudden end when he received a upper arm injury and had to leave the game in the 6th inning. Left Specialist Cesar Jimenez came in to relieve Hill and showed no mercy on the Yankee lineup by setting them down one-by-one just like Hill. On the offensive side, Adam Jones came out fo his slumpwith a solo shot in the 5th inning. Newley aquired Andruw Jones went 1-4 with a line shot right at the pitcher. Melvin Mora also went yard this game.

MASN Reports that the injury that Rich Hill Sustained was more serious than thought. Rich Hill Has a Torn Bicep Muscle in his throwing arm and itll shu thim down for up to 90 Days. With that said who will replace him? Top prospect Chris Tillman, First round Picks Jake Arretia or Brian Matsuz? Instead the Orioles go with Troy Patton, Aquired from the Miquel Tejada deal, he was hurt all last season and he came out in camp knowing he had a mission. H eposted good spring numbers and he knew he would be one of the first to be called up if someone went down. The only person infront of him was John Parrish who was just delt yesterday to aquire Andru Jones becaus eof Nick Markakis and Felix Pies injury. Well Fiortino and Lou Montanez out in my Triple A, Felix Pie and Markakis Hurt, Ryan Freel isnt the answer and Balentien not good defensively... That leaves me with Adam Jones and Nolan Reimold. I got Andruw cheap just till Markakis comes back and im optioning him to Triple A. Just one of those fill in trades... it was either him or signing Jim Edmonds.

Andrew Sisco pitched in the Minors for the White Sox last year but was released during the off-season. His last stint in the majors as a starter he went 2-5 with a 3.11 ERA in 2005. In 2005 he only had a record of 1-3 with a 7.10 ERA. And in 2007 he only appeared in 19 games as a reliever which he went 0-1 with a 8.36 ERA.
