Hey all,
I'm having some issues going online. I go into Network play, Pick my connection, and I get to the black "authenitcating DNAS" screen. Well it returns with an authentication error Code 0 every time. Other online games work totally fine. I updated my router's software, and my ISP is FrontierNet DSL. I'm figuring I've got ports closed off somewhere that need to be open, but I can't find which ones! Anybody that can help would be appreciated because I'm really looking forward to some online competition.
Thanks,
Russell

If your having probs joining the servers ,as its joining quit then the options page will show up,youll lose your connection, but the next time you join it should work fine.Thats what i have to do most times, but it seems to work fine then :D

Still no luck...Just to make sure you're understanding, I get to the all black screen with the RSA secured logo on top. Are you talking about getting to this point, and quitting?
Another interesting note: After this happens, the game goes back to the main menu and freezes!!! Can we say Major BUG?

Curious if you are using a PS2 or Xbox to connect. I also would like to know if you have a computer connected to your network. I may be able to help if you provide this information. Does your ISP provide you with an IP address? If so, you should be able to disable firewalls and open ports if you know your IP address.

Do you have your PS2 configured as a DMZ Host? If not, basically this will open up all ports on your firewall/router and direct them to your PS2. This will work the best for you if you have not already done so and is not really a security risk as there is not much to exploit on a PS2. Most games require several different high number ports to be open and each game is different. The DMZ option is the best route and works well for me.
Basically you have to configure your PS2 with a static IP address on your local LAN. Then in the router configuration tool, set that address to be your DMZ host.
If you already have it configured as a DMZ host, I'd check your other settings on your PS2, it could be you have the wrong (or no) DNS servers configured on your PS2 network adapter causing it not to find the servers for the DNAS authentication. Also, I've heard that the DNAS part will fail if you have installed a mod-chip on your PS2 (not sure what the actual error code is tho.) Just a few suggestions for ya.
Here's a link describing the steps for setting up a DMZ host on D-Link's site:
http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.asp?prod_id=1212&question=DI-604%20/%20DI-614+%20/%20DI-624%20/%20DI-754%20/%20DI-764%20/%20DI-774%20/%20DI-604_revE%20/%20%20DI-614+_revB%20/%20DI-624_revC%20/%20DI-774_revB%20/
Hope this helps

Yes all this has bene done....I had to do it all to get Tribes: Aerial Assault going online. I have no mod chip on my PS2. This is how my network is set up:
Internet---->DSL Modem, with firewall running, but router in DMZ--------->Router---->PS2 is DMZed, packets forwarded to Exchange server, PS2, and PC.
What I'm thinking is that I have a port utilized by NHL 2K4 that I've got configured to forward to my server, so none of the traffic is reaching the PS2. Sony told me to call Sega, so I called Sega (COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME!!!). Go figure. Unfortunately, I can't pull the internet out of the router and straight to the PS2, as my Exchange/Web server is part of my business and I can't have downtime.
Anybody else have ideas?

Using the PS2 to try to connect, and I have two computers attatched to the network, one Windows XP workstation and one Windows 2000 web and email server. My IP address is dynamically assigned by the ISP. This is what I"m sort of thinking. Since the firewall is open, I'm thinking that a port is being utilized that I have routed to my server. I think DNAS uses SSL, and I currently have all SSL queries routed to my server. I don't really use it so I could remove this and see what happens. But yeah if you have the info I could use some help. THanks.

Hmm....It shouldn't matter if you have HTTPS port (443) forwarded to another server on your network. I actually have a similar setup and have port 443 forwarded to a server on my network and my PS2 is configed as a DMZ host. I have a DI-614+ router.
It may cause some problems if you have some higher number ports forwarded somewhere else -- like ports in the 10,000 and higher ranges...that what most of these games use.
Are you using the official PS2 Network adapter? I've heard that some/most usb network cards don't work with the 2k4 series of games...just a shot in the dark here.
Couldn't find the exact explanation of what an Error 0 is for DNAS, but I found a link with some possibly useful DNAS troubleshooting info:
http://www.hostultra.com/~topper/DNASdoc.html
Might be worth a shot to disable all other port forwarding on your router, leaving the PS2 as the DMZ and see what happens. It would be helpful if Sony had a list or something of what each DNAS error code means, but I haven't found one yet.

OK first off, Prowler quit spamming this thread...
You may be on to something there. I cheaped out on the network adapter and got a generic Go.net USB adapter. I may have to borrow a friend's sony adapter and see if that solves it.

Actually uh somebody must have been using my name, because I still haven't gotten online. Go figure. LOL. I'm going to break down and pull the internet on the router and plug it straight up and see what happens.
