Florida Marlins 2009: Rise of The Fish
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/f3/NLE-FLA-Logo.png
Marlins Eager To Hit The Field:
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA- Spring training has begun, and it's time for our annual break down on the Fish's off-season. Many figured the young Marlins last year had no chance of any playoff asperations with their low payroll and inexperience, like years past. Led by Dan Uggla and Hanley Ramirez the Marlins shocked many with their 84-77 record, in playoff contension until late September. The Marlins hope to continue that success this year, looking to be in the playoffs for the first time since 2003. While the Marlins lost some key players from 2008, (Josh Willingham, Mike Jacobs and Scott Olsen) they hope that new pitching acquisition Leo Nunez can keep leads safe in the 7th and 8th innings, a problem the Fish had in 2008. Despite huge losses, the Marlins hope prospects Cameron Maybin, Cody Ross and Burke Badenhop can step up this year in clutch situations to take the place of the departed. There is also time for the Marlins to gain a big name high risk player in free agency. Marlins general manager, Jeffrey Loria has expressed signing Catcher Ivan Rodriguez to add experience to the young team. While this move would be decent, it is still questionable if he will sign for a team like the Marlins.
During the next few weeks, the Marlins hope to build team chemistry for the upcoming season. Their goal is to make a run at the Wild Card, and possibly a World Series crown. Manager Fredi Gonalez believes "We have alot of talent, but we still have a lot of things to work on. If we address issues with our pitching this year, I believe we can go far into the season.
Stay tuned, on Tuesday's edition we will examine the Marlins 25 man projected roster, pitching rotation, and those on the cusp of being sent down to AAA.

Marlins Spring Training Update

Projected Line-Up Announced:
JUPITER, FLORIDA- During the last day of Marlins Fan Fest, Manager Fredi Gonzalez announced the teams projected opening day roster. He told reporters, "there was many combinations to pick from, many factors to look at. Thus, it was pretty difficult trying to decide on one line-up. I plan on swaping the line-up around many times, depending on the pitcher, indiviual team performance, etc. We are a very versitle team, which is usually what occurs when you are a young team".
The tentative general line-up is posted below, barring any injuries. Some line-up spots still have not been decided yet, and will probably be announced at the end of spring training:

I'm really excited about the potential this year with graphics and the new "small" features that should make this game good. This is coming from someone that's bought the 2K series since 2004, when there was so many glitches and announcing problems with John and Joe.
BTW the game is only 2 weeks away, which should be good.

Marlins Spring Training: 2009
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/f3/NLE-FLA-Logo.png
Possible Signing?
JUIPTER Florida- General Manager Jeffrey Loria has expressed interest in re-signing cather Paul Lo Duca to a tentative 1 year deal for the 2009 season. Lo Duca played for the Fish last year primarly as a back-up, hitting .243 in 67 games with 0 HR's and 15 RBI's. Loria said the Marlins need a back-up catcher for now, considering that prospect Mike Rabelo would start in AAA Albuquerque at the beginning of the season. The Marlins could use Lo Duca's experience, to help the young team just like outfielder Luis Gonzalez did last year.
http://minorsupdate.mlblogs.com/05LoDucaPaul02.jpg
Will Lo Duca sign with the Fish?
Loria did note he would like to sign Lo Duca to substanally less money then he made in 2008 which was $5,000,000. Loria also mentioned that highly regarded cather Ivan Rodriguez exceeded the Marlins money offer, and will not be signed. He hopes that Lo Duca and the Marlins management can reach a decision soon, while the Fish are still in spring training. Manager Fredi Gonzalez is quite happy the Marlins have decided to persue Lo Duca saying, "Paul is an extremely good ballplayer who plays the game with class. It's quite an honor to coach someone like him last year, and I hope I get the oppertunity this year". We hope to keep you updated on this story, as more updates become avaliable.
In other notes, many of the Marlins have reported to spring training in excellent shape. Shortstop Hanley Ramirez has gained about 15 pounds to his frame, while not losing his speed. The Marlins hope to continue practing for their first spring training game in about 5-6 days.

Marlins Spring Training: 2009
http://deseretnews.com/photos/3833182.jpg
A Look Into The Marlins 2009 Rotation:
Spring training is apon us, and it's time for our yearly breakdown of the Marlins pitching staff. With 3 returning starters, the Marlins are looking for success, and possibly a spot in the top ten of MLB's best pitching staffs. One more note, the 5th spot has not been decided, and we have 2 candidates for that job.
http://a.espncdn.com/i/headshots/mlb/players/65/6491.jpg
Opening Day Starter:
Ricky Nolasco
Nolasco has shown alot of promise this year, after posting 15 wins last year and an ERA in the mid 3's. Nolasco has proven he is the go-to-guy for the Marlins pitching organization, winning games last season to keep the Fish in the playoff chase. The scary thing is Nolasco can easily improve on his pitching from last year, possibly winning 17, 18 games if he remains healthy. His repertoire includes two plus pitches, a fastball (91-94 mph) with good life attached to it and a knee-buckling plus slurve that kills hitters. He also mixes in a decent changeup and a cutter to the mix as a third and fourth pitch. Nolasco is looking to have another breakout season, which is why he looks to take on the ace role, and opening day starter.
http://a.espncdn.com/i/headshots/mlb/players/65/6435.jpg
Two Spot Starter:
Josh Johnson
Josh Johnson started the season late last year, but had surprising results. Despite coming back from Tommy John surgury late, Johnson put up some excellent numbers last year going 7-1 with an ERA of 3.61. Johnson hopes he can lead the Marlins to the playoffs, being the 2 spot starter. Johnson can throw a mid 90's fastball, a slider and a change-up. Earlier this week, manager Fredi Gonzalez comented on Johnson: "He's a young player, with some room for improvement. If he does well in spring training working on his pitches he can easily win 13-15 games. It will be interesting to see how he does, as a fan and manager point of view.
http://a.espncdn.com/i/headshots/mlb/players/65/28874.jpg
Three Spot Starter:
Chris Volstad
At age 22, this kid shows already he is ready for the big leauges. After posting supurb numbers as a rookie last year,(6-4, 2.88 ERA) Volstad is ready to double his wins while keeping his ERA down as well. Volstad is probably one of the most upcoming and dangerous pitching prospects in the National leauge, and teams should watch out for him. He has always been a fantastic groundball pitcher thanks to his best pitch which is a plus hard sinking fastball that drops off the table to hitters. Volstad also has a plus curve that he baffles hitters with and a very strong changeup which helps keep hitters on their toes when looking for the sinking fastball. He has very good make-up on the mound with great control of his pitches. Volstad has been working on perfecting his pitches, and hopes to be a huge force this year in the 3rd spot.
http://a.espncdn.com/i/headshots/mlb/players/65/28563.jpg
4th Spot Starter:
Andrew Miller
Miller had horrible numbers last year as a starter, struggling through most of the season with some past injuries. His record(6-10) and ERA(5.87) both indicate that, and he hopes to improve on that. Miller still has some potential left, after all he was the college player of the year in 2006. Hopefully Miller has adjusted from his off-year, and can look to have a winning record in 2009. If not, Miller can expect to lose his job fairly quickly. His pitches include a fastball (88-95 mph) with late movement, an above average sharp breaking curveball and an average sinking change-up. For Miller to become a more effective pitcher, he will need to work on developing a more consistent and fluid delivery.
http://a.espncdn.com/i/headshots/mlb/players/65/6472.jpg
5th Spot Starter:
Anibal Sanchez
OR
http://a.espncdn.com/i/headshots/mlb/players/65/28738.jpg
Rick Vanden Hurk
Both Sanchez and Vanden Hurk struggled due to injury last year, after both becoming starters in 2008. This will probably not be the case in 09, as both of them are battling for the last spot. The loser, will most likely be inserted into the long relief role, or sent down to AAA New Orleans. Both these relatively young players have potential, especially Sanchez. Sanchez pitched a no-hitter in 2006, but has had 2 off-years in 2007 and 2008 due to injury. However, now that Sanchez is completely healed he should bonce back very strongly. Vanden Hurk also nicknamed "The Holland Hammer" also has some potential, winning the futures game in 2007. However, Vanden Hurk has not much experience; which is why he may not win the role to Sanchez. He still may pitch as a reliever, gaining valuable experience as he grows.

Fish Flop On Opening Day

MIAMI- It was a tough opening day loss for Fish fans today, to say the least. The Marlins got a great pitching performance from Ricky Nolasco, but managed to waste his peformance by giving him almost no run support. Nolasco pitched 5 1/3 innings, give up only 1 run, and striking out 8. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said "This was a great start for Ricky, and really is encouraging news. Now, we just need our offense to come up big like Ricky did today". On offense, Cameron Maybin's solo HR in the bottom of the third was the only scoring for the Marlins. It was Maybin's first HR of the year, and second of his carrer. Maybin later told reporters, "I really don't care about the HR, considering the fact we lost the game. I'm a team player, and I don't focus on stats all the time". After Maybin's HR, the Marlins could not drive home any more runs, stranding 10 runners throughout the entire game. The Marlins best chances for any offense was in the 8th and 9th inning, but strikeouts and a double play ended these chances. For the Nationals, a combination of good pitching from John Lannan, Joe Beimel and J. Hanrahan kept the Marlins from scoring in the late innings; and Nick Johnson's bloop single in the 8th inning put the Nationals ahead for good.
Scoring:

MIAMI- It seems like if the Marlins don't get their act together very soon, the season could by ending in failure by late May. The Marlins lost again today, leaving 11 men on base and only scoring twice. The starting pitching wasn't better either, as Josh Johnson gave up 8 hits and 4 runs in 4 innings. Johnson said in the clubhouse, "I was terrible, and flat out did not have my stuff today. It's embarassing losing to a team like the Nationals, let alone getting dominated by them." Indeed, Johnson was right, as the Nats had the Fish number all day long. Specifically, Adam Dunn was the Marlins killer today, going 3 for 4 with a HR and 3 RBI. Ronnie Belliard also contributed with 2 RBI's for the Nationals, and everyone but Zimmerman and Flores had a hit. For the Marlins, the bright spots of the team was the Marlins bullpen, which only allowed 1 run in 5 innings. Dan Meyer continued his great success by giving up no runs for the second straight day, and only walking one. For batting, Cameron Maybin went on a tear by going 4 for 5 to raise his batting average to .555.

MIAMI- Manager Fredi Gonzalez knew the Marlins had to come out strong and play a good 9 innings to get their first win of the season. The Marlins did just that, but still needed an extra inning to fight of pesky Washington to ensure they would not get swept. Led by strong performances of Dan Uggla and Chris Volstad earlier in the game, the Marlins offense sparked in the tenth inning, rallying with 2 outs to score the game-winning run. Emilo Bonifacio provided the game winning hit, scoring pinch hitter Ross Gload from 2nd base. However, this situation would mostly not happen without the strong pitching performance of Volstad, who threw 6 innings and only gave up an unearned run while striking out 6 Nationals batters to keep the game close. On the other side, Daniel Cabrera kept the Marlins hitters guessing all day, except Dan Uggla. Cabrera struck out 8 Marlins in 7 innings of work, with his only mistake being a HR by Uggla in the 4th inning. It seemed the Nationals could not get to Uggla, who went 3 for 3 with a solo HR and a walk. It was truely an exciting game to watch, which was almost all pitching. The Marlins now open up a 3 game series against the Mets, which starts tomorrow.
Scoring:
Bottom 4th: With no outs, Uggla hits a Solo Homerun to Left field. ONE RUN

MIAMI- Dan Uggla continues to amaze Marlins fans, while opposing pitchers have just had enough of him. Uggla turned out another carrer performance, going 4-4 with a HR, RBI and 3 runs scored. Along with last game, Uggla has gone 7-7 in his last 8 at bats; including a walk. He leads the league with a .667 batting average, over .100 points higher than second place. Mets manager Jerry Manuel said "Uggla is an unbelieveable baseball player, who is very dangerous. Unfortunately for us; he is peaking during our series, and I won't be surprised if he continues his success throughout the year. I really haven't seen a 7-7 performance like this in a long time". Uggla said afterward, "I'm just trying to give my team an opportunity to win. The stats really don't matter to me, I care about helping my team win and advancing to the World Series". Along with Uggla's great performance, starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez had a great start, keeping the Marlins in the game early. He only allowed 1 run(a HR to David Wright) while pitching 7 innings and striking out 4. Sanchez also recorded no walks, but did not factor into the decision; because the game was tied when he left. Soon after Sanchez departure, the Marlins came to life by scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th inning. Jeremy Hermida helped by getting a RBI single in this inning, scoring Hanley Ramirez , which was all the offense Florida would need as Matt Lindstrom closed the door in the 9th, getting his first save.
Scoring:
Top 1st: David Wright homers to right field. ONE RUN
Bottom 1st: With two outs, Uggla singles. Hanley Ramirez hits a double, scoring Uggla. Jorge Cantu lines out to end the inning. ONE RUN

MIAMI- By the 9th inning, it was pretty clear the Marlins bats were not ready to play today by looking at the scoreboard. The Marlins only got 3 hits today, going hitless in the last 2 innings completely like almost giving up easily. In terms of percentage, the marlins hit .100 as a team, one of the lowest game averages in the major leagues this season. Said manager Fredi Gonzalez, "It was one of the most pathetic batting performances in the 2 years I've been coaching. We should've been able to really hit their fifth starter today, but it seemed all we could do was get into outs. I really hope we can rebound, and put out a decent performance in the rubber game of the series. Gonzalez was happy to see one piece of good offensive news today, which was that Hanley Ramirez got his first HR of the season, hitting it to right-center field. He now his 3 RBI in 5 games, which is pretty respectable; despite his low average(.210). He would later reply to reporters, "I'm glad I got my first HR out of the way, but we have bigger issues right now that have more importance. We really need to jumpstart our offense more, or face not making the playoffs or coming close for that matter". In regards to pitching, the Marlins starter Andrew Miller did a fantastic job keeping the Mets hitters at bay, only giving up 1 hit(a triple to David Wright), 1 run in 6 innings. He also recorded 7 strikeouts, 2nd on the team. Unfortunately, the late relief could not keep that same success, as Scott Proctor served up a HR to David Wright in the 9th inning; which Proctor took the loss.
Note: Dan Uggla went (0-4) ending his 4 game hitting streak. He still leads the majors in batting average.
Scoring:
Top 4th: With 1 out, Wright triples. Delgado hits a sacrifice fly(second out), scoring Wright. Beltran strikes out to end the inning. ONE RUN
Bottom 4th: With 2 outs, Ramirez hits a solo homerun to right center field. ONE RUN

MIAMI- The Marlins are glad to get out of town for a break, after only scoring 11 runs in 6 home games and compling a team batting average second worst in the majors. Today was no different, as the Marlins were shut out for the first time this year by Mets ace Johan Santana. Hanley Ramirez was quoting saying "Our team was pathetic today, including me[went 0-4]. Only getting 7 hits in 18 innings is such a disgrace, so how can we compete if we can't help our pitching staff"? It seemed the only bright spot was Dan Uggla who went 3-4 but was stranded by lackluster Marlins hitters after him each of the 3 times he reached base. Fredi Gonzalez said "We just gave up today before the game even started, which is such a sin. We have alot of work to do to break these struggles or I may have to bench some players". This especially refers to Emilo Bonifacio, who is only batting .088 with only 2 hits all season in 6 games. The Marlins really need to get into high gear, fast. It seemed almost everything went wrong today, including the pitching and defense. The Marlins gave up 7 runs, and the defense committed 4 errors; both season highs. Of course, the Mets took advantage of these mistakes, and won easily with good performances from Carlos Delgado, Brian Schneider and Johan Santana. The Marlins have tomorrow off, before traveling to Turner field.
Scoring:
Top 1st: With 1 out, Murphy triples. Delgado gets hit by a pitch, runners on the corners. Beltran singles, Murphy scores and Delgado goes to second base on the play. Chruch grounds out to end the inning. ONE RUN

MIAMI- For awhile, it seemed the Marlins had a chance today. Josh Johnson pitched pretty well early, and the offense was getting hits. Unfortunately, things did not stay that way through the duration of the game. Marlins relievers continued to struggle; giving up a combined 6 runs in 3 innings of work as the Braves rolled. The 7th inning was especially ugly, as the Marlins gave up 6 runs with the whole Braves line-up batting around. 4 doubles and 2 triples were hit in that inning, as Marlins relievers continued to get rocked. Jeff Francoeur was the Marlin killer today, going 3-4 with 4RBI and a double. The bad news continued from there, as Scott Proctor left the game with a head injury. He is going to be out 9 days, and will not be placed on the disabled list. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said, "It's always tough when you lose someone for an extended period of time, because you got to count on someone you were not expecting to perduce. Put that with today's 10-1 today, and it's a terrible day. Despite the loss, the bright spot was the Marlins got 11 hits today, including Cody Ross who went 3-4 today with an RBI. However, the Marlins left many men on base; and could only show 1 run for it.

MIAMI- If the Marlins continue to play like this, it's going to be a long summer. The Marlins lost again, getting shut out for the second time in three games. The Marlins actually had a chance in the 2nd inning to take the lead, getting 2 men on with no outs. However, Jorge Cantu made a dumb baserunning mistake at 3rd base by overrunning the bag, getting tagged while returning back to base. If not for this, the Marlins would of had the bases loaded, and most likely would have scored with no outs. Said pitcher Ricky Nolasco "It's really pathetic that we are playing like this. We have the capibility of competing in this divison, yet we are showing we have the calibur of a last place team". It seems like the Marlins are in a hitting crisis, only scoring 1 run in 3 games despite getting 22 hits in those 3 games. Second baseman Dan Uggla said, "It's obviously really hard to win games if you only score 1 or 2 runs. We just need to work on overdrive, to end this losing streak once and for all with a great hitting performance". The Marlins front office is responding too, re-aligning the roster and line-up for tomorrow's afternoon game knowing the Marlins offensive output is unacceptable. On another note, The Marlins actually pitched pretty well, espeically Chris Volstad who gave up no runs in his second straight outing. He has an ERA of 0; while pitching 12 1/3 innings. However, when a team can't give any run support; it's impossible to win. Things were soon going to end the 0-0 deadlock, and Jeff Francoeur was that person. He hit a game winning 3 run home run to right, continuing the Marlins losing streak at three.

Bottom 9th: With 2 outs, McCain hits a double to left. Anderson gets hit by a pitch, runners on 1st and 2nd. Francoeur hits a game winning 3 run HR to right. THREE RUNS

MIAMI- The Marlins losing streak continues, now at 5 games. The most disapointing part is the Marlins failed to score any runs for the fourth time in five games, and have been shut out 4 times in 9 games while getting swept at the hands of the Braves. Star shortstop Hanley Ramirez said, "We really are the laughingstack of the league. It's sad we can't even score one ****ing run a game, yet alone win one". The Marlins fustrations are everywhere, including Fredi Gonzalez who was seen kicking the water cooler at the end of last night's game, disgusted after another sub-par performance. The Marlins pitching turned out another decent performance with Anibal Sanchez pitching 6 2/3 innings giving up 8 hits and 2 earned runs, but they lacked offense once again. The Marlins bats only got 5 hits against 4 Braves pitchers, since starting pitcher Jair Jurrjens left at the end of the 3rd inning with a severe concussion. He was put on the 15 day disabled left, and will be out the rest of April. The Marlins also had an injury of their own, as Jeremy Hermida left the game with overall discomfort. He will miss a week of action, as the Marlins called up Alfredo Amézaga to take his place. The Marlins also called up pitcher Rick Vanden Hurk sending down Scott Proctor who is not ready to play, considering he has a head injury. Fredi Gonzalez said to reporters "It's a new series in Washington, and we hope to make a comeback and score some runs. We have a new line-up, and we hope to put all of this behind us.

MIAMI- The Marlins losing streak keeps rolling on in Washington, now at 6 games. The Marlins turned out one of their ugliest performances of the year pitching-wise, allowing 12 runs on 18 hits, with 2 hit batters. Said reliever Kiko Calero "Everything just fell apart for us, and fast. It seemed the Nationals bats were ready for us, regardless of what we threw. It just seemed like everyone had a bad day, in the same game". (Calero threw 1 inning, giving up 3 runs on a HR in the bottom of the 8th inning.) The Marlins bats did, score 1 run to break the string of shut-outs; which is some good news. Hanley Ramirez drove in Dan Uggla on an RBI single to right in the 4th inning; to cut the lead to 4-1 Nationals. However, the good news ended there as the Nationals would pile on 8 more runs, with 3 home runs by Adam Dunn, Austin Kearns and Ronnie Belliard. The biggest blow was in the 5th inning, when the Nationals scored 5 times with 2 outs. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said "The losing streak is tough, obviously. We just hope to come to the ballpark and win, and put out a great performance. Sometimes things just come together at the right time, and we hope that time comes soon". The Marlins continue their series with the Nationals today, as the Marlins hope to avoid losing seven straight.

MIAMI- The streak is finally over! The Marlins got a well-needed victory, (especially for Manager Fredi Gonzalez) with everything going their way hitting and pitching. The Marlins came out attacking, scoring 5 runs in the 3rd inning of Washington starter John Lannan. In that inning, Hanley Ramirez really got the scoring started by hitting a bloop single into center field, scoring Emilo Bonifacio who reached earlier on a walk. Dan Uggla and Cody Ross would also contribute that inning; getting valuable RBI's to put the game out of reach early. Said Jorge Cantu "Everything just fell for hits today for us, and finally scored a bunch of runs. We were also very patient, and it showed out there by us getting quality hits. We just need to turn out a performance with the bats like this more often, of course". Cantu was right, as the Marlins got 4 walks of Nationals pitching; 3 off starter John Lannan. The walks were important, as they were how the first two runners got on base during the big third inning. While the Marlins "O" had a big game, so did the pitching. Starter Ricky Nolasco pitched a supurb game, going the distance allowing no runs over 5 hits and getting a complete game shut-out. He helped keep the Nationals bats at bay the whole game, so the Marlins could focus on getting runs. Nolasco also struck out 8 Nationals, while only walking one in the Marlins best pitching performance of the year thus far. He also kept the Marlins from using an overworked bullpen, which was critical. However the bad news started as soon as the game ended; as Nolasco was injuried 87 days with torn elbow cartilage. Said manager Fredi Gonzalez "I knew I kept him in the game too long, and it's definitly my fault. I just wanted him to get the dang shut-out, and for us to win so badly that I ignored his fatigue levels; which was costly for the team. Now, I am 100% going to be more careful, at gauging our pitchers fatigue levels so this doesn't happen again". The Marlins front office has still not decided what they will do to replace Nolasco, and that decision should be made tomorrow.
Scoring:
Top 3rd: With no outs, Bonifacio walks. Nolasco walks as well, runners on 1st and 2nd. Maybin singles, bases loaded. Amezaga flies out to left, 1 out. Ramirez singles, scoring Bonifacio with the bases loaded. Uggla singles, scoring Nolasco with the bases still loaded. Cantu walks, scoring Maybin as the bases are still loaded. Ross doubles, scoring Ramirez and Uggla as Cantu gets thrown out at home, 2 outs. Baker flies out to end the inning. FIVE RUNS
Top 4th: With no outs, Bonifacio singles. Nolasco strikes out looking, 1 out. Maybin singles, runners on first and second. Amezaga singles, Bonifacio scores as Maybin advances to second base. Ramirez singles, scoring Maybin as Amezaga advances to third base. Uggla grounds into a double play to end the inning. TWO RUNS
Top 6th: With no outs, Nolasco singles. Maybin hits into a fielder's choice, 1 out. Amezaga singles, Maybin to second base. Ramirez singles, Maybin scores as Amezaga advances to second base. MIAMI- The Marlins put in another poor performance today, failing to win back to back games. It was fusterating, because the Marlins had many opportunities to win the game today, getting 10 hits, and having 12 men on base. There best chance was in the 4th inning with the bases loaded and no outs, however the Nationals turned a quick double play and got a harmless fly ball to end the inning unharmed. Thus, it is fitting to say that the Fish failed to score a single run, batting terrible with runners in scoring position. Said Manager Fredi Gonzalez, "It's always fusterating when you have so many chances to score runs; and yet we keep putting up zeros on the scoreboard. This must be our 4th time being shut out this month, and it's got to stop, period". While the batting failed to produce, so did the pitching. Starter Josh Johnson was tagged for 6 runs on 10 hits in 5 innings of work. He is 0-3 this season, with an ERA of 8. Johnson would later say, "It's been a very disapointing I've had such a terrible April. Hopefully things will change for me soon, or I'm in trouble. If not, then I am prepared to go down to New Orleans and come back ready and help the team win". Rick Vanden Hurk also had a miserable performance in his first appearence of the year, pitching 1 inning and giving up 4 runs. The Nationals got most of their runs of home runs, with Ryan Zimmerman doing most of the damage with his shot to center to score 3 runs. He went 3-4 this game, loving Marlins pitching for today.
Scoring:
Bottom 2nd: With 1 out, Belliard singles. Olsen sacrifice bunts, moving Belliard to second with 2 outs. Milledge hits a two-run home run to left-center. Guzman flies out to end the inning. TWO RUNS
Bottom 3rd: With no outs, Zimmerman doubles. Dunn walks, runners on 1st and 2nd base. Kearns flies out, 1 out. Johnson doubles, Zimmerman scores as Dunn advances to 3rd base. Flores grounds out, Dunn scores as Johnson goes to 3rd base. Beliard lines out to end the inning. TWO RUNS
Bottom 6th: With no outs, Belliard singles. Dukes gets hit by a pitch, runners on 1st and 2nd. Milledge singles, Belliard scores as Dukes advances to 3rd base. Guzman doubles, Dukes scores as Milledge advances to 3rd base. Zimmerman hits a three-run Home run to dead center field. Dunn singles. Kearns strikes out, 1 out. MIAMI-The Marlins have aquired Kason Gabbard yesterday from free agency. He signed for 1 year and $629,000, almost double his salary from 2008. Gabbard was mainly brought in to replace injuried starter Rick Nolasco who was injuried earlier this week after his complete game performance. Gabbard will fill the 3rd spot in the Marlins rotation, right before Chris Volstad. He priorly pitched for the Texas Rangers and Boston Red Sox going 2-3 with an ERA of 4.82

Uggla's HR not enough as Marlins lose by a run

MIAMI- The Marlins lost another today, dropping them to the worst record in the baseball at 3-10. Said second baseman Dan Uggla "It's obviously fusterating losing all these games, and our fans have a right to be angry. Luckly, it's early, and I would rather have a team go on a losing early in the year then have to suffer one down the strech." There is a glimpse hope that maybe the Marlins will break out of their losing ways after tonight's very close game, where the Marlins almost rallied to tie the game after being down, 3-0. They managed to get 2 runs the 4th inning, which one of the runs was Uggla's Solo HR in the 4th. The Fish were unable to score anymore runs the whole game; however the pitching was solid after the 1st inning that no runs were given up in the last 8 innings. Starter Kason Gabbard pitched decently in his first start, after surviving a rough first inning where he gave up 3 runs on 2 homeruns. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said afterward, "Kason could've just given up after the first inning, but he didn't. He had faith in himself, and managed to shut down the Pirates afterward". Indeed, after the first inning; Gabbard only allowed 2 hits in 5 innings. The Marlins continue their series tonight against the Pirates... Hanley Ramirez will be out with a hand injury for 3 days sliding into second.
Scoring:
Bottom 1st: With 1 out, Sanchez solo homers to deep center. McLouth singles, then steals second. Doumit flies out, McLouth to 3rd base; 2 outs. Adam LaRoche hits a two-run homer to right field. Andy LaRoche hit by a pitch. Monroe hits into a fielder's choice to end the inning. THREE RUNS
Top 4th: With no outs, Uggla solo homers to right field. Ramirez reaches on McLouth's error. Ramirez caught stealing, 1 out. Cantu strikes out, 2 down. Ross triples. Ross scores on Wotton's passed ball strike out, Wotton to first base. Paulino strikes out to end the inning. TWO RUNS

MIAMI- It seems like the Fish are finally putting up a fight this series, coming back to tie the game each of the last 2 games Now, they just need to prevent coming up short and actually win. The Marlins lost again, in a game that featured excellent pitching and mediocre batting by both teams. Starter Anibal Sanchez had an excellent start, keeping the Marlins in the game by pitching 7.1 innings and only giving up 1 earned run. Unfortunately, the Marlins are still struggling with driving in men on base; and couldn't get enough run support for Sanchez. Said fellow third basemen Wes Helms "We really need to work on driving in guys so we can win games. It's certainly disapointing when you are last in the league in RBI's and runs, and we need to go stop that". On the bright side, the Fish have had nasty pitching of late though, holding the Pirates to only 11 hits in the first 2 games. Sadly, the Marlins can't take advantage, and lost another great pitching performance. The game was decided in the bottom of the 8th, when it was a 1-1 tie. The Fish just rallied to tie the game, on Dan Uggla's RBI single. However, Cameron Maybin committed an error in center field, allowing the lead off man on. Then, a ball struck Uggla's glove and went into the outfield, scoring the guy from second. Such a fusterating way to end the game, and hopefully the Marlins can get back on track.

Marlins end road trip going 1-8

MIAMI- After this terrible road trip, the Marlins have had one of the most disasterous Aprils in Franchise history, and the month is still not done yet. The Marlins lost a thriller today though, and still managed to keep it close in a 6-3 defeat. Said manager Fredi Gonzalez "We are really hurting right now, our morale has hit rock bottom. The good news is we have nowhere to go but up, and we should start winning ball games very soon. We just need a strong effort from both our pitching staff and line-up, that's all". Things seemed to change today as the Fish got 11 hits and 3 runs, very good compared to last week. Emilo Bonifacio did surprisingly well, going 2-4 with a run and a RBI. Other noteables are Dan Uggla and Cody Ross, who contributed with 2 hits apiece. Unfortunately, the defense wasted this offensive showcase by allowing 2doubles and 1 triple off errors/cheap hits. 2 of these cheap hits came against starter Andrew Miller who pitched well, holding the Pirates offense at bay until the 4th inning. In that inning, the defense allowed a cheap double; which caused the Pirates to suddenly get into a groove and chase Miller out of the game. Pittsburgh would get 95% of their hits from this point on, a huge part on why they came out on top and how they got momentum. Ryan Doumit's 3-run Homer in the 7th inning was the biggest blow to the Fish, ruining yet another Marlins possible victory. The Marlins actually had the lead two times in the game, but could not close out the game and as a result; another loss.
Scoring:
Top 4th: With 1 out, Uggla singles. Cantu singles, runners on 1st and 2nd. Helms walks, loading up the bases. Baker hits into a fielder's choice, Uggla scores; Cantu moves to 3rd base with 2 outs. Bonifacio singles, Cantu scores as Baker advances to 3rd base Miller grounds out to end the inning. TWO RUNS
Bottom 5th: With 0 outs, Adam LaRoche doubles. Andy LaRoche strikes out, 1 out. Monroe singles, scoring Adam LaRoche. Wilson singles, Monroe to second. Moss lines out, 2 outs. Morgan strikes out to end the inning. ONE RUN
Bottom 6th: With 1 out, McLouth triples. Doumit singles, scoring McLouth. Adam LaRoche singles, Doumit advances to second base. Andy LaRoche singles, bases loaded. Monroe strikes out, 2 outs. Wilson flies out to end the inning. ONE RUN

Bottom 7th: With 1 out, Morgan singles. Sanchez singles, moving Morgan to 3rd base. McLouth strikes out, 2 outs. Doumit hits a three-run homerun to right field. Adam LaRoche singles. Andy LaRoche strikes out to end the inning. THREE RUNS

I am going to continue this on The SHOW; I cannot play this game anymore because it's so unrealistic with the outfield drops, etc. Also, I made the difficulty so hard; that I made myself lose alot of games in the beginning.
