So I wanna get a head start on my franchise so I can hit the ground running on release day. I want a franchise that's fun to follow, so what better way than to ask advice on some team options, based on what I would do. Vote or comment!
Phillies - My fav team. Don't usually play with my favorite, but after last year, my excitement is through the roof. VERY upset about the loss of Burrell, by far my favorite Phil, but with Ibanez coming in, maybe we'll actually make some contact after Utley. Its hard to say how I would play any different than Manuel, since I think he is one of the best NL managers there is, regarding in-game moves.
Reds - The Reds are a heavy heart pick since my friend who hit behind me in HS is now one of the best prospects in the Reds organization. I would try to keep my feelings at bay, but definitely keep him in mind now that griffey and dunn are out of the outfield. Other than that, this would be a big challenge, and adding a big bat would be crucial. The Reds are in need of a superstar.
Royals - Same kinda thing as the Reds, since a buddy of mine from fall ball was drafted in the 2nd round a few years ago. Plus I'm always up for a challenge. The Royals are a "play as you go" kinda team, but I'd more than likely revamp and bring up anyone that shows any kind of promise, clear some cap, shoot for year 2.
D-Bags - I recently moved to Phoenix, and really took a liking to the Dbacks. Their stadium is great, I love their gritty players, and who can turn away from having a 9 hole hit bombs in the NL every 5 games. The thing I like about them, is that you have a great shot at the playoffs, even while making changes, since the NL West is a crap shoot.
Orioles - I'm a Phillies fan, but grew up going to Orioles games, since they're closer to home. Love the stadium, love the addition of pitching, but hate the idea of making great changes in year one and still never coming close to winning the division. Even if I did, I'd almost feel guilty doing it.
Please add any comments or suggestions you may have. I'll probably pick my team after looking through the websites to see what type of young talent they have, but am going to take the vote into consideration. Just typing this is getting me very excited for the game. Now I can see why tracking franchises makes the game that much better. Awesome stuff.
