what if we could have lobbies dedicated to sim style gamers and the cheezy stlye arcade gamers that way we could know what kind of game we are heading into i don't care who i play anymore but wouldn't it be nice to know what kind of game you were getting into heck everyone likes the good ol Cheddar Bowl from time to time that way you could just go into a separate lobby and cheez away at all your might but if you want a good ol sim nfl style game you got your own lobby just an idea

Agreed. We need a Sim Play set of rules. Madden actually used to provide something like this called 'Fair Play' mode. However, for something like that to work, the game would have to be actively updated, so it's a no go with APF2K8.

here are the rules from our NFL 2k3 - 2k5 league.
1. Keep trash talking to a minimum. We emphasize good sportsmanship in our league & trash talking just is not part of it.
2. Play within the spirit of the game. What this rule basically means is that running the same play over and over 20 times a game is not realistic football. Going for it on 4 and 37 in the first quarter is not realistic football. As far as your play calling, be imaginative. No one is saying you can not do your "money play"...just mix it up with the other 200 plays in your book.
3. Try to utilize the majority of your playbook. It makes the game more enjoyable if a person is not running the same 3 - 4 plays every series.
4. Use your common sense and football knowledge when faced with long yardage situations. Going for it on fourth down, in most situations is not recommended. Certain situations will apply where it is okay. Those being in late fourth quarter comeback attempts where punting the ball would not be a decision a NFL coach would make, or other judgements calls in short yardage situations where u feel that a real coach would go for it. There should be nothing but punting on 4th down when you are in your own territory unless there is no time left in the game and you need to score. We think that everyone understands the right way to play in regards to these situations. Of course there will be some judgement calls, but should not be radical coaching decision making, and you should let your opponent know that you are going for it. In other words, please use your special teams on 4th down.
5. Do not abuse "money plays" that take advantage of an AI flaw in the game.
6. Discretion should be used with the no huddle offense. Please do not abuse it. There is a time and place for the hurry up. If you choose to use hurry up offense it must be in a 2 minute drill situation, or if you are down big. Also please ensure that your opponent has a reasonable amount of time to select the defensive player of his choice.
7. Onside kicks should not be used frequently. They should be only used when the situation dictates.
8. Audibles: An offense can make up to 2 audibles per play. No limit on hot routes. Please do not abuse audibles in the sense that you are audibling several times while at the line of scrimmage.
9. There are restrictions on position substitutions. They are as follows:
-QB may only play QB unless it is a "trick" play
-HB may play FB or WR
-FB may play any OL position, HB, WR or TE
-OL may play any OL position
-DL may play any DL position
-LB may play any DL position or DB position
-CB may play any DB position
-S may play any DB position
No offensive players on Defense and vice versa except in the special circumstance that that player plays both ways in real life (i.e. Allen Rosum of the Falcons, Champ Bailey)
10. Dropbacks: QBs are only allowed to drop back 5-10 yards during pass plays (except when under immediate duress by the defense). This rule is in place to prevent the popular tactic of dropping your QB deep to allow your WRs time to break free from defensive coverage. Any owner found abusing this rule will be subject to league discipline and/or dismissal from the league.
11. Running the score up: If you are winning by 35 points please do not continue to pass every down, and try to win by as big of a margin as possible. Please use good sportsmanship and mainly run the ball unless its 3rd down.
12. Please do not use the various glitches in the game. No subbing a punter for kicker to onside kick. No kick block glitch. Etc.
13. No manually moving the dlineman around into any different pre-snap positions other than what the line shifts allow. (even if you are controlling that player the whole time)
14. Intentionally running the playclock is only allowed within the last 3 minutes of either half. You must hike the ball before the playclock hits 15 seconds in all other situations unless you are busy looking for a play or audibling at the line. Your opponent can easily tell if you are wasting clock on purpose.
15. (Against Man Defense)- When sending a WR (meaning any target who is lined up wide) in motion, you must wait for him to come to a complete stop and line up at the line of scrimmage before hiking the ball.
16. (Against Man Defense)- When motioning a tight end (meaning any target who is lined up right next to an offensive tackle) to the opposite side from where he is lined up, you MAY hike it while he is in motion, but ONLY after he has crossed past the QB.
17. (Against Man Defense)- No hiking the ball before the HB/FB stops moving when you send them in motion.

fair play did nothing.
its not like every cheeser goes for 4th down.....thats all fair play was
and no onside kicking unless warranted.
sim has to be a way YOU want to play. putting limitations on things = people find ways around
like fair play, you can ONLY go for it on 4th downs in the 4th qtr. well if its the 3rd qtr and youre losing why wouldnt the opponent call time out so that way the clock doesnt run and you can NOT get to 4th down in the 4th qtr
then i would get the ball back as you MUST PUNT.
join a quality league and get a good group of friends.
until games are BUILT for the sim crowd, cheesers will always win
get mlb the show 09. theres a game meant for the SIM crowd. it makes the cheesers adjust

What they would have to do is have a "sim rules" lobby where some rules are automatically enforced by the game like no no huddle until the final minutes and no going for it on 4th down on your end of the field.
Just do not expect anything like a fix for this game , this game and series has been completely abandon.

wouldn't work man.....one persons view of Sim is a lot different from another persons view of sim. Most people on here think I play fair....but about 3 people think I'm a cheezy POS.

Here's what they should do though.......Penalize the team heavily for doing cheezy things....
Say if someone is going to go for it on 4th and 10 in their own territory in the 1st qtr, Only give their receiver a 5% chance of catching the ball. Onside kicking in the 1st 3 qtrs, forget about it....Make sure the receiving team gets the ball. Clearly this game has huge momentum shifts, as soon as the opposing team attempts something cheezy, that momentum should sway to the FAIR PLAY team tenfold.
When I say penalize the team, I don't mean throwing the flag....Affect it's momentum.

I think all they have to do is the following:
o Fix the Bugs / Exploits
o Don't allow teams to go for it in unrealistic situations (control 4th down attempts)
o Provide a defensive bonus when the same offensive play is called (think of this as a defensive read, I like the idea of every play being green, then yellow, then red with red meaning the defense is going to know it / react to it properly)
o In addition to the positional information, Provide the formation (even if it's the fake formation due to a formation shift) for the defensive play calling screen
Others?
