View Full Version : uh oh, looks like franchise mode is broken

hey all, i have been following a couple guys on operation sports. they got their copies of 2k9 yesterday, and they opened up a q and a session on os.
apparently, there is a bug in franchise where big name free agents go unsigned. chase at os simulated a season, and after his first season, holliday, manny, sheffield and a couple of others are fa's, and they never get signed. he simulated another season, and after his second season Lincecum, Fuentes, Slowey, Percival, Blackburn, Smoltz, Homer Bailey, Kuo, Lindstrom, Mauer, (Holliday, Manny, G.Anderson Sheffield -- all still FAs from year before), Maybin, Conor Jackson, JJ Hardy, Tejada, Dukes, Kubel, Iwamura, Headley, Mora and others are free agents. and they STAY free agents THROUGHOUT the SEASON.
they never get signed, because there is a glitch with teams' payroll. most teams only have like 4 mil in payroll, and the others are in the negative. so teams cant afford to sign the big names, so they sit there for years.
i really hope this is a small little bug that can be quick fixed. and it better be fixed before march 3, or they lose any bit of respect that they were starting to get after it seemed like they were on the right track with this game. seriously, the said the franchise was rebuilt from the ground up, and said that everything about it would be "much improved". contracts, player progression, stats, etc...
heres the link, i advise everyone to check it out, and voice their displeasure over this, so as to make them act swiftly, and not wait weeks to develop a patch. this shouldn't be this way, when its advertised to be differently.

Lets hope for the best from VC and 2K.

I was geared up for the game after the demo but now I am just sad that this kind flaw could be looked over 2 years in a row (same thing would happen in 2k8). Maybe they don't have the retirment issues when everyone retires at 35 or 39......that sucked.

if its broken, i am sure they will patch something like this. It shouldnt be happening no doubt. I am not a franchise guy, so this doesnt effect me 1 bit. I mostly game online and maybe in a league. lol

you never know...they also said that franchises are "much improved", and named things exactly like this as being the reason why it was "much improved". "new, better logic for player contracts".

Maybe a release date patch would be nice.... giving an option for 'salary cap' (since there is not salary cap in baseball) on/off...

This pretty much killed NHL 2K9 this year. Guys over 80 overall would dissappear, and has had a franchise freeze since 2K5 that, even though the game goes gold, goes unfixed year after year among many other bugs. Yet they refuse to bring out a serious patch.
Somehow I think MLB will get a nice patch, lets hope.
I don't feel so bad about 2K9 as I won the Hockey Hall of Fame tournament, but other than that this game certiainly deserve a patch and I hope you video game roid freaks get yours at least (joke).
Btw will they put an asterix beside players in MLB 2K9 in the patch?

Well, this doesn't effect me because I am **** and cannot take simming games as I feel it cheapens my stats. BUT, I was happy with the game until I heard this, this is a deal breaker for many. I would suspect something like this will be fixed fairly quikcly like 2k7's salary snafu. Dissappointing the strides VC made but this still shows up in the final. This and CPU not taking near enough strikes will hurt this game, hopefully both will be fixed.

I won't buy the game if the franchise mode is broken. Even if there is a patch, those of us without broadband access won't be able to fix it, so I'm out. I'm very disappointed.

You have to wonder who the 2k Sports testers are, and why they are getting paid sometimes. Some things happen in the game, but somehow they don't get caught.

It most likely will be fixed, but man 2k really needs to look at is internal process, something like this should never get into the final build.

Serious question
does 2k have beta testers?

The frachise mode had a similar glitch in NHL2k9, again, and there was no patch provided to fix it ... 2K doesn't respond to its mistakes in hockey but it might in baseball because it's a bigger seller ... Who knows?

I'm very disappointed.I was just about to post something similar. If Franchise Mode is broken, then the game as a whole is problematic. Strangely and quite sad, a patch will only SATISFY those who have Internet connection, while those who are not connected via XBOX Live will be SCREWED.

This is a big concern for me, I am a franchise junkie and this would be a killer of any fun sitting there for hours simulating seasons. Chase from OS did two different ones with very little difference, guys like Lincecum and Mauer should not be free agents, I hope this is fixed before the game is released, or patched ASAP, because like I said, I love dynasties, and loved the idea of getting into NBA 2k9 style bidding wars, that was going to be fun

And you wonder why they'd say something like this. I know a lot of kids are on here and don't read VC words and 2ksports words about how the game is going to be, but for someone who is an adult; things like this just kill their credibility forever. Now in the future when they make their promises, I will know its just a dog and pony show promise that won't be true once the game comes out. They obviously don't understand the old sales principle of 'under promise & over deliver'. I'd really like to know why they say such stupid things with a dead end glitch in arguably the game's most important mode.

There is a way to get patches with live, you an burn them and install them, cannot rememebr where to go now for that though.

If you mean there is a way to get patches for games WITHOUT having XBOX Live, then I would love to know, because I've NEVER HEARD anything of such. In truth, I don't believe there is a way to get patches without having XBOX Live -- but I may be wrong.

Without I meant obviously. i cannot rememebr where, but I read somewhere that you can go to a site and download and burn them and install that way, best bet is to call MS Xbox support.

I know you can get some content with transfer kits, but we would have to purchase the transfer kit and a memory card to do so. Besides, I don't believe game patches are usable with transfer kits, but I could be wrong. In either case, I'm not spending additional money to fix something that should have been taken care of before the release of the game!

I never said anything about spending money, it's free. It's your choice to not look into it.

I will try to search for what you're talking about, but I've never seen anything like that before. I hope you're right, though!

- you are on the internet now, you simply plug up in your internet to your xbox live, and download what you need to download. and anybody saying they can't connect to the internet, their TV is too far away in 2009 is flat out lying. period.
you don't even have to have xbox live to download updates or patches to games. and they don't cost money at all. I refuse to believe that you all don't know this.
all i play is franchise when i get this game and always have, and I don't see this being a "killer" at all. I can see it as being a nuisance but nothing more. and a patch will fix it, i'm good.

I can get online at work, but not at home and I can't bring my 360 to work to download stuff. The only thing I've seen that you can burn onto a CD and use on the 360 are system updates. If you know where to go to download updates and patches that are burnable on CD and then installable on the 360, please enlighten me. Maybe I'm a moron (very possible), but I haven't been able to find where to do this.

Exactly, but a lot of people don't understand the control you have in the NBA 2K9 franchise, so if MLB2K9 has that same type of control, I won't have a problem either.

NBA 2K9's franchise mode is fantastic. It's just kind of unnerving to see Jason Terry go unsigned all offseason.

This is not an issue. Will be fixed with Day 1 Patch: http://www.2ksports.com/forums/showthread.php?t=208415. Closing thread.
