Player Bio:
Stephen Cassidy began playing baseball at age 6 in his hometown of Montclair, New Jersey. He started out his playing career as a third baseman. Coaches saw that Cassidy had a rocket for an arm, so they quickly switched him to a pitcher. After many years of dominating opposing hitters in his little league years, his luck turned on him as he got older. Hitters were eventually able to catch on to his fastball and Cassidy wasn’t the greatest at learning new pitches, so the fastball was all he could rely on. As he entered high school, the coaches still saw how powerful his arm was and decided to turn him into an outfielder. Not only does this kid have a rocket of an arm, but he also has a good set of wheels. After playing his freshman year on the freshman squad, he finished of his high school career starting all three years on the varsity level in the outfield. Scouts from colleges, as well as scouts from the Major Leagues attended many of his high school games, which would eventually lead to many offers for this young stud. Among the college offers were teams like Texas and Florida, which are both D1 schools. Cassidy passed up his chance to go to college, because he had the opportunity to go play in the big leagues. In 2009, Cassidy will most likely be drafted by a major league baseball club and invited to spring training!
Up Next: Interview with S. Cassidy on Sportscenter. If you guys would like to have any questions answered, for example, What is your favorite team? What do you like about playing in the outfield? What team do you hope to get selected by? Anything like that, feel free to ask. Then I will compile all the questions together and put them in an interview format for the next update. Thanks to those of you that are following!
