2008 Tampa Bay Rays Season Recap
2008 Record: 97-65 (AL Champs!!!!)
Last year was another year that people were putting the rays out of the race of the WS. They started out good haing a winning month in April going 15-12, with an era of 3.69 from opening day till the end of april. They started out strong and kept it going through the whole year. They made playoffs and even made it to the 2008 World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies they just couldnt beat them in the end. But what do all baseball fans say what till next year.

Going into the off season the Rays knew they played great and they just needed to pick up so good players to help them win it next year for 09. They started off good in December by signing free agent RHP Joe Nelson. Acquired OF Matt Joyce from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for RHP Edwin Jackson. Signed free agent RHP Lance Cormier to a one-year contract. Signed OF Gabe Kapler to a one-year contract. Signed OF Pat Burrell to a two-year contract,
Joe Nelson- A 35 year old right handed pitcher. He is 6-1 200 pds. He has a 2.60 ERA at home and a 1.37 ERA away. Last year he pitched in 59 games and had a 3-1 record with an ERA 2.00
Matt Joyce- a 24 year old from Tampa, FL. Played for Detroit before getting traded to Tampa. He hit for an BA of .252 12 HRs and 33 RBI's in 92 games in 2008.
Lance Cormier- 28 year old right handed pitcher. He had his best year of his career last year with the Baltimore Orioles. He pitched in 42 games with an ERA of 4.02 alos with a 3-3 record. He also allowed his lowest ER of his career with 32 in 71.2 innings.
Gabe Kapler- Gabriel Stefan Kapler, A 34 yr old RF signed to a one year contract off FA. He hit for a .301 avg last year in 96 games. He als had his best SLG year last year also. He is coming from the Milwaukee Brewers which is a young team so he could be a vertern to the hitters this year for our young team. We will be glad to see what he will bring to this team.
Patrick Brian Burrell - 32 yr old Burrell coming off the World Series Champs the Phillies. He had his best FPCT of his career last year posting a .991 for the Phils. He hit three home runs in hte post season with an avg of .227. We will be looking for him to step up and play hard ball this year for our team and we will see what he can do for us.

We finally get things going this Spring. On Febuary 27 we faced the Boston Red Sox and we finally got some good pitching and hitting out of our squad. Niemann pitched a great game and didnt give up a run and Longoria hit is first home run of the Spring. Hopefully we can keep this up.

Straight from MLB.com
Injury Update (http://billchastain.mlblogs.com/archives/2009/03/injury_update_1.html)
According to Joe Maddon, Carlos Pena is definitely a go for Friday in Bradenton. The Rays first baseman has been held back to give him adequate time to recover from off-season surgery to repair abdominal muscle tears.
"I feel great," Pena said. "I'm planning on playing Friday."
Meanwhile, Matt Joyce and B.J. Upton will remain on the sideline.
Joyce continues to have a sore calf muscle.
"He's got this soreness, stiffness down in his lower calf area," Maddon said. "...There's day's it feels better. And times it doesn't. He said he's feeling better, but it's not to the point where we feel like him participating. "
Upton is recovering from off-season surgery to his left shoulder and isn't expected to play until later in the spring.
Upton is "making progress," Maddon said. "Still no definitive anything. At the end of it I just know he's smiling and he's feeling good. He's confident. He's chomping at the bit too, all of our guys are who have not been able to play."

This just in from MLB Rays TV.
This is Brian Adams for Rays TV. I am about to have an interview with the rays GM, MLG Xit Wounds. Hopefully he can tell us what he thinks about spring training with the rays and maybe some things that might change.
Hello there Sir, my name is Brian Adams of Rays TV. How are you doing today.
Well things are going good just wish we could get some better pitching out of or players this spring to see if they have what it takes to be in the bigs this season.
So how do you think your team will fair this season with the new starting rotation and adding David Price as a starter this season.
Well we have some live arms this season and with the youngster of Price pitching this season as a starter instead of in the bullpen, if he can do what he did last year the whole team will be in good shape every time he is on the mound this season. We are hoping he will have the stanima to go as a starter and we are hoping we wont have to move him back to the bullpen in the middle of the season.
So what do you think of your offense this season. I know you guys lost a great vetren in Cliff Floyd, but you guys did pick up some other vets this season in Pat Burrell and Gabe Kapler.
We all will miss Cliff he was one of the players that helped us get to the World Series last season. We wished we could of got him back this season but things happen and we wanted to go with some other players. But with the experience of Burrell coming from the championship team Phillies we know he has what it takes to step up and get us the big hit when needed.
So what do you expect from your team this year.
Well we are hoping to get to the World Series again this year and show everyone out there that last year was not a fluke and we can play with the best teams out there no matter when or where we are, Home or Away, We are a team to be scared of. Well sorry Brian but i need to get back to work with the front office so ill talk to you later
Ok there you have it the GM of the Rays is expecting this team to go to the promise land and win it this season and show people they are the team of the future and not the past.
Well this is Brian Adams of Rays TV signing off and saying good night.
Have fun everyone and lets enjoy Rays Baseball this season
