about that UNC #3 thing... rankings right now mean nothing. Look where UNC has been ranked at the beginning the last couple of years and look where the finish. In contrast UK was not in the top 10 the last two years at the beginning and BOTH years got the number one overall seed in the tourney

I watched the NKU-UK game tonight. Keep in mind that I'm a huge UK fan, have been since my teen years in the 80's. Here are my observations:

NKU
+ very good long-range shooting team. Granted that defending the three is something that Tubby teams struggle with ever year, this NKU squad can light you up from well beyond the NBA line. Tonight they had probably 10-12 threes.

+ pretty good with the back-door passes.

UK
+ perhaps the fastest UK team I've ever seen. Their speed alone is going to kill some teams this year

+ Chuck Hayes is still too soft for a forward with NBA potential (his shooting hitch will prevent him from having a successful NBA career), but boy does he do all the little things that help the team to win. He gets his own misses for put-backs as well as anyone in the country

+ Shagari Alleyne is VERY slow, but at 7'3" ( is that correct?) what can you say? I think that even he was suprised that hit that jumper from about five feet away. Another time he had a dunk with seemingly ever "North" hanging off him :) Shagari won't see a lot of playing time, though, because he isn't aggressive on the boards, is way too slow in the paint for SEC teams, can't get down the court at even a reasonable speed, and can dunk easily but doesn't.

+ Patrick Sparks is a "show off". Unless he starts putting the team first, I can see him turning out to be another Antoine Barbour (player that is overhyped). His passing ability is superb, but I don't think he doesn't anything else well at all

+ Josh Carrier, he should win the "All American Practice Player" award. Every year they constantly talks about how he fills it up in practice (I'm assuming he practices with the rest of the team), yet in a game he can't hit a shot to save his life. Tonight he once again did literally NOTHING. There was that one attempt to save an errant pass by diving for it, but I could see the frustration on his face. Neither he or Brandon Stockton will see much time at the G position over the talent that has arrived.

+ Brandon Stockton, great little dribbler, but just isn't going to fit in. Poor thing. I felt bad for him, you could see that he felt inferior to the likes of Rondo, Bradley and Crawford.

+ Rondo, Bradley and Crawford are something special, guys. The big question is how long these three freshman phenom guards are going to stay at UK before jumping to the NBA. They all handle the ball very well for their inexperience. I think they're comparable to the phenoms over at UNC :)

+ Woo is more aggressive this year on the boards, and he reminds me of Pelphrey somewhat, with the ability to step out and hit the mid-range jumper. The big question mark for him is whether he can stay under control when defending down low. He had only one foul.

I'm sure I'm missing others on the UK squad, but naturally I only know those players, so no offense meant toward NKU! _IF_ this UK team can get the Tubby "ball line defense" down and can find someone other than Hayes to score under the basket, then I declare them early and legitimate contenders for a national championship. Otherwise, they're at least an Elite Eight calibre team and will be incredible next year anyway!

Brandon Stockton came from my hometown, and I too feel sorry for him. He's now at the bottom of the lineup since Tubby brought in all of those guards. I think he should do himself and the team a favor by giving up his scholarship and transfer back home to WKU.

Kentucky is one of the best teams in the nation and they will show it this year by going to the final four and maybe the championship game but i think it is north carolina's year to win it all bcuz their young guys are experienced enough now and i think they know what it is going to take to win the whole thing this year

UNC still doesnt play team ball.... or have enough depth to make a title run. Look what happened when they played SANTA CLARA without Felton.... 11 point loss. Felton cant play 40 mins 6 straight games against the best teams in the country and be expected to produce at a high level.

yes and it was in 2000 that UNC was supposed to wipe the floor with us... and we womped them... in Chapel Hill. Do I think there will be a blow out? No, but I do think UK will prevail. What has UNC done to show you it can play with us? All they do is run up and down the court and chuck up threes. They gave up over 90 points to an exhausted Iowa team. They dont play D... we do. When they cant run, they cant score because they dont have a half court offense. Plus, we have 3 good PGs while UNC only has one. Felton will be WORN DOWN BIG TIME. And we all know what happens to UNC when Felton isnt in the game.

well Raymond's arm was in a cast, and Rondo almost knocked him arm off, and we still kicked yo [***] That was a waste of tickets, I thought buying tickets would be to see a good game, not a blowout, now I know ur gonna say 13 points isn't a blowout, but it wouldve been 23 if Azubuike hadn't hit mad 3's we kicked ur butt and Quentin played some considerable minutes next to fellow unexperienced frosh Rondo

trash talking on a MB...lol

If you had been watching from home and would have had the benefit of replays. Rondo hit the ball and it knocked into feltons arm. Rondo never hit his arm.

UNC played well... and I will congratulate the team for that. UK didnt do the little things they normally do to win. They didnt play D for the most part, they didnt box out, they didnt hit open shots, they came out nervous... but besides all that, after going down 24-6 they cut it to 6 twice and 7 one other time. For a young team, that is great and I am excited about the rest of this year.

I wouldnt say that, come next year Kansas will be without Simien and Miles, while Kentucky SHOULD still have Morris and Rondo, watch yourself, Kentucky isnt bad, UNC is just that good, I see UK ending up ranked 17-19

How come whenever someone mentions Kentucky getting #1 seeds in the NCAA tournament, the UAB Blazers always pop up?!?!?! Sounds like preseason and postseason rankings both mean nothing

Are you saying that UNC has never been upset? I find that hard to believe.

The point is preseason rankings mean nothing! When UK went 32-4 in 2003, the cats started the season ranked 17th.

When syracuse won the national championship, they were not ranked to start the season.
