* More trade offers from CPU. Notify, via email, trades between CPU teams.
* Less injuries. Provide a slider as was in 2K3.
* Provide a round robin option in tournament mode. I really miss this in the 2K games. Great for getting a bunch of guys together and reliving the Olympics.
* Once and for all get rid of the Roster Management menu. Roster Mgt and line editing should be contained in one easy menu.
* Have hot/cold status for players that is determined by fatigue, flu, etc. If you rest a player, his status improves quicker, and if you play through sickness, you fatigue faster and performance rating decreases. This would give us a reason to use our backup goalie. In addition, have a players rating be influenced by how well they realisticly perform against certain teams. If a certain goalie is outstanding against a certain team, than his rating will be above average.
* Provide box scores on each game and information on any streaks by players or teams. This could be done through email notification or a newspaper sports section setup.
*Provide more superstar quality players in draft mode.
* In free agent menu, allow a section so you can retire players, officially. Then you can select to include them in the free agent menu of a franchise mode or have them excluded so you can't access them.
* Have a REALLLLL! celebration when you win the cup. I remember when I won the championship in NES's Blades of Steel, and they had prerendered black and white replays of goals and fights that froze to still shots, and a really nostalgic-type song playing. This gave you a feeling that you accomplished something. For instance, you can save your top 20-25 images from the playoff series as you play and when you win the cup, these are played out in a tribute to your sucess.
* Please improve the fights. Personally, I can't stand the streetfighter approach. Afterall, jersey grappling should not be an option. I have been in a few hockey fights in my day, and I can assure you it is practically impossible to fight on skates without grabbing hold of a jersey. This is why Rob Ray use to slide out of his jersey and fight bear-skinned. So make the players grab right from the start. Also, if there was anything worthy of all-out-button-mashing, it's a hockey fight. In real life it's face mashing, in video games it must be button mashing. When a fight is over, your finger or thumb should feel like a piece of ground beef. Also, have those that fight be the only ones that fight. I don't care to see Koivu square off against Brashear, AND have Brashear lose. If they do fight. Koivu should be pounded, NOT be able to bob and weave his way to a victory.
* Improve goalie passing. I know it may seem too arcade-like, but it is necessary to keep the game flow at a fast paced. Also, a little less dive saves. I swear my goaltender is a soccer goalie.
* Provide descriptions of attributes and strategies. How about a Create a strategy mode.
* Between whistles, show fans in the stands dancing or doing the wave. When a visiting player heads to the penalty box, have some fans hang over the glass yelling stuff at them.
* Finally, look to past games. I have been obsessed with hockey video games since Activision's 2-on-2 Atari version to NHLPA 93 to EA's NHL 2000 on CPU (an excellent display of menu use). These past games lacked super graphics, but had great display features and true hockey realism. I still think EA'a NHLPA 93 had one of the best fighting setups ever. Once you finished a fight using the old clunky sega genesis' controller, you hoped another one didn't breakout to soon because your thumb was numb.
Thanks
