SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT: make EM Talk More
2) Overlays

CONS: its outdated
SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT: update it like this

and make it red
3) Camera Angles
PROS: There Good Angles
CONS: None
SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Its Fine

1) Commentary
PROS: Love the commentary. thorne and phillips are just what I love to hear and the way they interact is sweet.
CONS:There really is a whole lot. If I had to say con is that there really isnt a feel of excitment when an amazing play happens. Like a homerun to tie the game or things like that there isnt a huge amount of excitment from either.
SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Just have thorne get intense when close plays happen, homeruns happen, a sweet acrobatic play happens or a walk off.
2) Overlays
PROS: Didnt have a problem with it. Was good enough for government work. thought it was very easy to read.
CONS: It feels outdated. Can there be more of a MLB network feel to it? Like when introducing players that are in the field have more of a MLB type presentation.
SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Add the mlb network score bug into the mix. Add more realism in the feild introductions overlays. Just watch mlb network games and copy the feel and sights of it
3) Camera Angles
PROS: Great and very cool customization options
CONS: I really hate having to set up the angles every time I turn on the game
SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Fix the above

Commentary
PROS: Pretty good overall really.
CONS: Just fix the mistatement of things. Wrong outs, wrong fielder, wrong hitter, etc.
SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT: More Quanity, less Quality. Probably the only time you can say this, but more smaller bits. It's already heads and tails better than Miller and Morgan, but long stories should be few and far between and instead it'd be nice to hear a ton of little facts about a player throughout several games instead of the one long story.
More up to date info.
-He's 2-4 today with 2 RBI's
-He double his last time up.
-His slump continues as he is only 2 for his last 25
-He is leading the league in SB's
-He has 25 HR's on the year
2) Overlays
PROS: None really, they are rare and usually wrong
CONS: Not enough of them with good info.
SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT:
Show meaningful stats. Who cares if a player was 12th in fielding % last year. That means nothing.
1st time up or two: Show their basic season stats. .348, 7 HR, 46 RBI, 55 R, and 22 SB
After that: Show either what they have done for the day: 1-3, 2B, RBI
or show a mix:
------------------------------------------------
l Jose Reyes l
l .347 7 HR 45 RBI 62 R 41 SB l
l Today: 2-4 1 R 1 SB l
l l
------------------------------------------------
3) Camera Angles
PROS: Good options for pitching and hitting
CONS: Horrible for Fielding
SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT:
Like and instant replay camera, allow us to move, rotate and zoom the camera and then lock it in for pitching and hitting.
Offer several camera's for fielding and bring back the ones from previous versions. Instead of trying to reinvent the fielding camera's, just go with what worked in the past and then add on to that. Options, options, options.

1) Commentary
PROS:
The sound good and have the right amount of commentary. I don;t want to hear them talk continuosly.
CONS:
What they are saying isn;t always what's happening.
SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT:
Match up the action with the commentary more accurately.
2) Overlays
Overlays are fine. Everything doesn't need displayed on the screen. It slows it down.

Pro: Love Gary Thorne and Steve Phillips as the announcers.
Cons: Sometimes their commentary doesn't match the action on the field or is a little behind. (Not talking about when they are finishing a comment...but when something happens on the field and they comment on it...it doesn't match what just happened
Room for Improvement: Would love to see a Pre and post game show with Zelasko and Physioc...or get MLB Network to do some work for a MLB Tonight style show at the end (with Mitch Williams, Barry Larkin, and Harold Reynolds since Matt Vasgerien (sp?) work for your competition).

I would like to see the MLB Tonight Style show. It would be better instead of Physioc or Zelasko. I'm not a big fan of Gary Thorne. Maybe you should have a three man booth with Steve Phillips, Joe Morgan, and Jon Miller like they have on ESPN.

Overlays
Pros: None
Cons: Dumb info given almost all the time. Oh, and the stupid 216 bug. Try watching a baseball game on any network to get an idea of what should be displayed and how. See what they do each inning, each at-bat, each pitching change, etc...
Actually watch the game and copy it if you have to. Stop trying to be novel. It's not working and looks like you have never seen a game.

Cons
Announcers repeat same phrases.
Throne will say "Hickerson's delivery" There isn't a player named "Hickerson" in the game.
Sometimes the comments do not correspond with the play on the field.
Pros
Both announcers have a good knowledge of the game.
Suggestion
There is no one better than Vin Scully of the Dodgers

Suggestions:
Running animation needs to be improved, ESPECIALLY when relief pitchers are running from the centerfield pen. Athletes do NOT run with their chests out, shoulders back and elbows so far behind them.
Please allow catchers tracking popups around the plate to remove and toss the mask. It's silly to hear Steve Phillips say that the catcher tossed his mask when it doesn't happen in this game.
Also, let the catcher run out to the mound to try and settle down a pitcher from time to time.
Pitchers NEVER field popups near the mound.
At the end of games, we should not see the umps, base coaches and on-deck hitter still on the field as though the game were continuing.

May 15th, 2009, 09:08 PM
A few more suggestions:
Players who pinch-hit for pitchers should NEVER be on the mound!
Often, when a bench player is pinch-hitting for the pitcher and gets a basehit, Steve Phillips and Gary Thorne are commenting about the PITCHER having gotten the hit (erroneously).
The outfield scoreboard showing the batter and his stats should reflect either current year stats or previous year stats, NEVER CAREER STATS.
Games progress from daytime to complete nighttime too quickly.
Thanks for reading!

I would like to see some animations of the announcers when the games start if that is possible. That would be pretty cool.
Also, I would still like to see the MLB Network be incorporated somehow. Maybe you could get Matt Vasgersion, Harold Reynolds, and some other people to do voice overs and you could have them show games that headlined MLB.com.

Exactly. On top of the 216 bug, the other data is almost always wrong. How could Eric Chavez be in the top 10 in doubles last year when he played like 40 games?
What does top 10 in fielding mean? Fielding %, fewest errors, most put outs, most assists.
Don't try to invent the wheel with your display, just keep it simple as it has always been:
Players Name
Avg., HR, RBI, R, SB
-Todays line (after first at bat)
Ex: (3-4, HR, 2B, 3 RBI)
or quick line of factual statistics
-Ex: (29 HR - 3rd in AL)
If you can't get the leader stuff or statistics correct, then just leave them off. Wrong info is worse than no info.

1) Commentary
PROS: GREAT! Much, much improved. Thank God there is no Joe Morgan.
CONS: The very common "That was a quick inning" lines.
SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Just a little more variety. Maybe make it so a comment can't be repeated in X amount of games.
2) Overlays
PROS: Easy to read
CONS: Glitches.
SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Fix the glitch.
3) Camera Angles
PROS: Good angles available
CONS: Game remember my angles.
SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Save camera angles.

Commentary
Pros:
It's new
Steve Physioc (spelling?) knows the difference between an actual HR and an inside the park HR.
Cons:
Sometimes it doesn't match with what's going on.
Suggestions:
*More content would be nice. Like more interesting facts and currents stats for the game.
*More intensity during important plays. Like walk offs, game tying hits, big strike outs, great defensive plays, etc.
*Match up the commentary better. I hear Thorne getting a little too excited for a routine fly ball in the outfield and he continues by saying that the ball was caught on the warning track when it wasn't even close to the warning track. It doesn't match up. (not trying to contradict myself with saying he has too much excitement but his excitement is coming on the wrong play in this example.)
Overlays
Pros:
They're not bad
Cons:
Usually filled with useless info and stats
Suggestions:
*Have their up to date season stats and underneath have their current game stats (obviously after their first at bat). It doesn't have to be groundbreaking, just informative. Give it the feel of a baseball game on TV.
When someone walks past my room, I want them to ask me who's winning as if they think it's a real game on tv. (I get that with NBA 2k9 all the time)
*I'd like to see a pitch count overlay somewhere. It doesn't have to be huge. Maybe underneath the teams score, have a small drop down blade with pitch count. It's informative for me. Also, after 60 or 70 pitches, have a breakdown of pitches throw per inning come up. That way you can see how efficient the pitcher is.
*Homerun distance on homeruns. It's an interesting fact to know.
*It'd be cool to see career stats vs a certain pitcher/batter or career with bases loaded stats. Stuff like that would always be a nice touch if done correctly.
Camera Angles
Pro:
I like how the height of the camera is determined by the height of the ball.
Cons:
The inability to save camera angles. I don't change them but others do and there should be an option to save the angle.
Homerun angles. Hit a homerun over the green monster and you can't see the ball go over. The camera just stops at the wall (I think because the wall is bigger than your average outfield wall).
Suggestions:
*Allow us to save camera angles. Not a big con for me but it needs to be added.
*Homerun camera angles for certain ball parks. I'd like to see the ball clear the wall in real time. Usually I can see it go up and over during the replay but not when I first hit it. (Referring to hitting it over the Green Monster here.) If it's a bomb, I'd like to see the camera follow the ball to see where it lands (as well as fielder's taking one or two steps and being like, "that ball's crushed" and give up chasing it). Followed by the camera switching to the batter circling the bases. On ESPN the camera man gets right on the third base line and follows the batter to the plate. Kind of like the chase cam from 2k8 on steals. That would be a nice touch, especially on walk off homeruns where a players gets mobbed at home.

This might be the wrong section, sorry. But I have a few suggestions.
* Have people in the front row hang off the edge of the railing. It would be cool to have a pop fly and see people hanging off the railing on the side of your screen.
* Have the ball thrown back onto the field after a HR when in an opposing stadium.
* Have K's draped off the back railing for people to see when this pitcher is striking people out. Backward K's for when their looking, and normal K's for when they swing.

1) Commentary
PROS: It's entertaining at first at least.
CONS: It gets repetitive quickly. "The pitch from Derek Lowe is low" or "How about the catch by the fan" or "Why buy the souvenirs when you can get them for free." We've all watched baseball. How often does a fan catch the ball when hit into the stands? Almost never is the first person to touch the ball the same person that ends up with it. And hearing the commentators comment on EVERY SINGLE ONE is tiresome.
SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Add variety. Player specific stuff is good, but gets old if they use it over and over and over in the same game. The same goes with all comments. To hear the same ones rehashed over and over makes a game drag. When games were on CDs, I can understand the limited space, but these are DVDs and probably should be dual layer DVD. More commentary and less repeats in a single game.

1)
Pros: Commentary is overall decent
Cons: Some of the Commentary is off: e.g. "And that ball is GONE!" When it's really an out in Right Field, or "And he had to drop back to the warning track to catch that one." When the ball was a pop fly to shallow Center.
Suggestions: this falls under several categories:
Add variety to commentary, and, with custom music, make it sound like the music is actually coming from the stadium intercom. Add in echoes and crowd noises that make it sound more realistic

Commentary
PROS
.Good statisatical conversations
.Good coverage when a player is playing a great game
.Philips is entertaining
Cons
.Not enough excitement when a player make a great catch
.I hate when the announcers lag EXAMPLE: Sabathia Prepares the delivery (the ball was already pitched)
.Sometimes they dont say anything when player drops a ball or gets an unexpected HR
.Thorne is boring and not enough knowledge of baseball it seems
NEEDED IMPROVEMENT
.Get Michael Kay
The way he calls a home run and the way he excites the fans is incredible
(If not get a former player to announce)
.Let us see them
(Maybe let us see them in the booth discussing the game and the Teams involved)
.Postgame interview
(We dont have to hear the player just show us a cutscene)
OVERLAY
PROS
.Nice and easy
(Its easy to navigate and find what you want to find) Exm:Pitch speed, score, etc.
CONS
.Just very outdated and boring
.Nothing nice
NEEDED IMPROVEMENT
.Better design
(Mlb 2k7's over lay was great) Maybe add the teams logo and Mlb logo
Exm:MLB>>On base diamond>>Boston Logo_Runs>Yankees logo_runs>Inn>outs>K-B Count>Network
.Maybe add the networks of the teams
example:Yankees-Yes network Boston-Nesn (Not team announcers just team network logos)
CAMERA ANGLES
PROS
.See all the action
CONS
.Just very old and boring
NEEDED IMPROVEMENTS
.Become the ball!
(When a pitcher gets a strikeout or when a hitter gets a homerun , let us be the ball)
I want see the ball on my screen and i want to see exactly where the ball is going
exm: On screen:strikeout: Up and in: in slow-mo
.1st person
make 1st person basestealing
(I want to see the pitcher and i want to be able to look at 1st and second basemen)
.Reactions
I want to see the reactions of the pitcher, catcher, in and out fielders, and hitter when theres HR or K

Get lisencising from some of the regional sports networks to use their announcers and their scoreboards. When I am the Yankees, I would love to see the real YES Network scoreboard, and hear the voices of Michael Kay and one of Paul O'Neal, Al Leiter, David Cone, John Flahrety, and Ken Singleton. Or, better yet, let us choose the announcing crew. I think it would be great to hear one of the combo's listed above, and choose different ones or the same ones in series. Also, I would love to have the option to either listen to the TV broadcast, or the radio broadcast. I would love to hear John Sterling. I love when he does the famous "BALLGAME OVER! YANKEES WIN! THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE YANKEEES WIN!!!!!" And have him shorten the "THEEEEE" for blowouts/"regular" wins and exaggerate it for close ones/nailbiters/walk-offs. Also, when I win the World Series, I want to hear him say "BALLGAME OVER! WORLD SERIES OVER! YANKEES WIN! THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEE YANKEES WIN!!!!!!!!"

Getting the regional networks would be nice- seeing the NESN scoreboard and Sox Announcers Don Orsilo and Jerry Remy would make the game great. Also, get the real PA announcers for the ballparks, like the real Fenway Announcer.
Get the real win songs from each team: so when the Red Sox win at home, it starts playing "Dirty Water", and when the Dodgers win at home, it plays "I love L.A."

I like the PA announcer idea, but the person who I would love to hear at Yankee Stadium, Bob Sheppard, is sick. Hopefully, he can get back to the Bronx and get his first look at the new digs.

if they were going to do the team by team announcers it would take alot of time and money for 2k to do. if they were to ever do it, i would expect them to give it to Microsoft and itd be released as DLC which would cost us the gamers more money.

Yeah, that would mean that every announcer period would have to do hundreds of voice dubs for one single game. That will never happen.... I wish it could be possible, but it will never happen.

I have noticed that Gary Thorne cannot pronounce his R's in names. He keeps calling Michael Cuddeyer Michael Cuddeyah and he keeps pronouncing Joe Girardi's name Joe Giraadi. He ****es me off so much. I would much rather just listen to Steve Phillips the whole game. Maybe you could put the 3 man booth with Steve Phillips, Joe Morgan, and Jon Miller.

Camera Angles
PROS:
* Low angle camera shots are truly broadcast quality (positioning and DOF are perfect)
* Customizable hitting and pitching angles
* Low angle fielding camera on ground balls show off stadiums, look like a broadcast
CONS:
* Too many "top-down" angles during cut scenes -- looking down at players
* Camera angles don't save
* Fly-ball fielding camera is too high, birds-eye view-ish.
*Too many cuts between cameras between pitches
SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT:
Field level camera shots look terrific; players in the foreground and blurred stadium in the background. There are, however, too many high-angle cutaway shots. Staring down on a player from the upper deck leaves only the field/grass texture in the background. It's a terrible use of screen real estate; shots look drab.
During a real broadcast, cutaways during an at-bat are mostly ground-level cameras next to the dugouts.

2) OVERLAY
I really liked the 2k8 overlay for this reason:
You could display player stats during the game that might be cirtical during the game, such as your pitcher's stamina as a numerical value (65% as opposed to a meter gauge), and their pitch count as well without having to pause and look at the summary.
You cannot do that with the 2k9 overlay.
