In a bit of news, 2K Sports is going to begin advertising its new basketball video game, NBA 2K10, today and the cover athlete is Kobe Bryant.

During the ad campaign rollout, four potential covers will be shown and viewers will vote on which image they'd prefer to see when the game is available Oct. 6.

Jason Argent, the vice president of marketing for 2K Sports, said that in this, the 10th anniversary of the game, "Frankly, Kobe was the only pick for the cover." Last year it was Boston's Kevin Garnett.

"Hopefully some of the same Garnett magic will rub off," Argent said.

The cover of NBA 2K10 is set to be announced tonight with Kobe Bryant taking the honors. Bryant has been on the cover of numerous other NBA games in the past most recently on SCEA’s NBA series. He averaged 26.8 ppg this season and nearly 30 ppg in the playoffs and has helped to lead the Lakers to the NBA Finals.

There is another angle to the cover announcement. There are four different versions of the cover to choose from and 2K Sports is going to let the public vote to decide which one ultimately becomes the cover beginning tomorrow. While that is a nice way to get people involved with the game it does go a step further with the options.

Recently Spike Lee did the Kobe Doin’ Work documentary and they are together again here as he will help to promote the game. However that also means that Kobe as a Knick is one of the options. If I was a Lakers fan the idea of that would probably be offensive and I suspect they won’t be happy to find out he signed off on this idea even though it has no shot of being used. Even if it were to win the vote 2K would undoubtably go with the runner-up.

I like the jersey poppin' one but the only problem I got with it is that it was from last season where he won the MVP and was not successful in the finals against Boston.

To be honest, I wasn't surprised that it was Kobe, my speculations was Kobe, Lebron or Howard. D-Wade would have been another choice, but I would figure it had to be one of those 4 Lebron not many others I would expect to grace the cover of 2K, out of all these years Ben Wallace was the only major surprise one to me, and the double dosage of Shaq.

Player intros, Techs, Real life Celebs, Stare down dunks, Pregame warm up, Bench with the jumpsuit, SIM lobby/ARCADE lobby. 1 word...................
