Then instead of having 60% Winning Percentage, yours could go up.

Just bugging bro, I would personally love to see Lobbies again in 2K10. It is always great to see everybodies stats before the game starts.

Team 2K was interesting in a way.. even though you can pick the Lakers everytime and get the same amount of points if you win with the Kings. I think what team you use should have an effect on the total points you recieve.

imo team2k was brought to please little kids.. I seriously dont understand where they got that dumb idea from.. anybody could be on team 2k.. all you gotta do is play 100000 games and your in.. it takes no skill what so ever.. and its not even organized at all!.. lobbies made the online so much organized man, meet up with friends chat.. what could be better then that?.. team 2k is a joke! .. my baby brother could be up on that list ill just give him the controller .. pick the lakers or cavs for him.. attack the rim with kobe or bron.. spinning dunking .. do that every 100000 game.. then BOOM im on that list. I swear if 2k does not add lobbies this year.. they seriously dont listen to us.. 2k better bring back lobbies this year.. or they loose a customer which is ME

The problem I have with lobbies is that they are a haven for people who like to cheat their way to top rank. I personally enjoy the blind matches. If it's a sim experience you want, which is the only reason to really inspect an opponents VIP before you play them, you wouldn't care about playing for rank anyways because you know the top guys won't be playing the same way. If you're playing someone who is a top rank, you don't even need to check their VIP, chances are they will do whatever it takes to stay at the top.

I like that they have lobbies in 2k9 for player matches only, but the lack of customization for team rotations and such compared to rank is silly. It should be the other way around. People playing RANKED games shouldn't be allowed to add injured players in... they should be the ones forced to play with the real NBA lineups rather than people playing meaningless custom games.

Though, the first thing 2k needs to do is go back to the 2k7, 2k8 (PS3 version) ranking system where your rank was determined more by WHO you beat, not how many bums you can hunt and destroy. I remember back in 2k8, I must have been the only user who was in the top 100 (I was rank #28) with the Knicks and wasn't some drop-glitcher.

The current ranking system is garbage. If someone was to pick up this game today, and say "I'm going to dominate and win and get #1", they'd have to literally play over 2,000 games to catch up. On 2k7 and 2k8, all you had to do was play really well and after a few weeks, if you were destroying the top ranks, proving you could beat them, you'd be a top rank. Not the case in 2k9, I hate beating top ranked Cavs abusers and have their rank still show as #4 while I'm still up at #1000 just because I haven't played 2,000 games.

Truly GOOD players need lobbies... I spend about 15 minutes searching for a player worthy of playing. I look at there record as the game is loading and if their record is below 60% winning percentage, I quit the game, period. Why waste my time playing someone I know I am going to beat by 20+ points?? I want a real challenge. Oh yeah, and when players skip the record screen and quickly go to the lineup page, I also quit. I have a 77% winning percentage in 190 games played, all of which were played against players who have a winning percentage above 60%, believe me or not. 2k sports wastes my time simply because I want to play someone who is good. PLEASE bring back lobbies.

ChuckyFE
June 8th, 2009, 08:08 PM
^ Anyone could bum hunt and get a win percentage of 90%. That doesn't mean they're good...

Like I said, if they bring back the PROPER ranking system, then your rank is actually a closer definition to how good you are as compared to your win percentage. There are plenty of players out there who only have 50% wins that are better than people who have 80% wins.

thats why they make the ranking go up by how good the person was that you beat. That way you cant just beat bums because your ranking wont go up as much.

In theory, this is right....in the way 2K has it designed, it's even more frustrating.

Player matches have no downside for quitting....which means try and win a game online, without your opponent quitting at the last moment. Pretty rare, and extremely frustrating when it happens over and over and over....and the only time you ever see the end of the game is when you lose.

It would be nice to check your opponent's VIP and stats before a game....to track down a sim player. However, if a player doesn't play ranked games, he has no VIP, or stats tracked. Apparently those features are only for people who want to play for rank.

The vast majority of opponents that you run into playing unranked games are brand new to the game. A new player is almost as bad as the worst cheeser out there, and the worst part is you can't even get angry at them because they just don't know any better. Try and find someone who actually plays their own defense on unranked games....pretty much impossible.

Ranked games do not have to be random. There is no reason for this whatsoever. If their fear is boosting records...well, who really cares??? Is it worth ruining the enjoyment of the game to allegedly preserve their rankings system? Their ranking system is broken, and instead of doing the work to replace the system with something new, they took the lazy approach to try and fix the holes in their fundamentally broken system. TrueSkill or any other weighted ELO ranking system would take care of the issues created by boosting with friends, or bum hunting.

Lobby games should not count for ranked play and if they keep the stats they should be separate.

You should not be able to pick and choose your opponents and have it count for ranked play.

oO makes a great point.

Lots of HOF level players tend to go to Rookie Lobbies and challenge bums.

Lobbies are important, but rank is as well, if not then people wouldnt care about ranked lobbies so much.

Tough to say what 2k should do.

As it is now, people have to decide to play realistic bball in unranked lobby or arcade style in ranked games.

People who play HOF level and/or Sim basketball do care about rank, if they didnt they would just play in the unranked lobbies

man the infactuation with video game rank is crazy these days. I love the fact that i had a ranked HOF room to meet up in with everyone on my friends list in 2k8. I could care less about rank i just want to play legetimate skilled players like the vets that used to play 2k8 and left once 2k9 failed online. I would see high ranked players and laugh at their VIP profiles and shot charts. I played alot forum guys like mcgradybunch and nycdafuture in 2k8 hof games and it was great to have a meeting place. This no lobby random crap is just to police people from boosting rank! WHO GIVE A DAMN 2k doesnt give money to the people who are #1 every week do they.? Most of the top players are horrible anyways hell i beat the guy who won the first week of team 2k with ease. he was just a cheeser like everyone i face online.but whether i get 15 points for beating him on lose 20 cause i lost i could really care less cause the game stats show who was the better player. lobbies for all cause i want HOF on every game i play. I leave superstar games to you all. matchmaking doesn work at all. every game i play is against some little kid who doesnt know what a pick n roll or a midrange jumper is . Half of the time i dont waste time or effort with them cause once i get a 25 pts lead in the second quarter i just give them the win and hope that my next opponent will be better. never happens. in 2k8 i met some REAL good players calling out sim ballers in HOF lobby. I met guys that could take a team like the hornets and score from everywhere on the court. Rank keeps kids happy cause thats who plays them more often. most mature gamers play league games in 2k9 but in 2k8 i could find them in HOF3 lobby. Lobbies will return in2k10 so i am not worried. hopefully the vets that have moved on to the Operationsports website will return this year and start up the noise again .

The unranked lobbies they have now are fine, there is no need to separate anything. They just need to improve the interface which was pretty trash in 2k9.

I will be very disappointed if they bring lobbies back for ranked games. That would be a step backwards in my eyes.

they will be back. people have been asking for it for 8 months. really doesnt matter anyways. Blind matches dont match player skill at all. just turns into your oppeonent trying to score 98% of their points off layups and dunks. at least i could avoid cheesrs in 2k8 usually.

I don't care if 2k brings the lobbies back. 2k is starting to be pretty good for me lately. Ranked games are found automatic and teamup works 50% of the time as long as there isn't someone messing with their mic.

lol true huh....anyways when i get a ranked game in 2k9 and i skip the little intro were it shows your win percentage. they quit. people could still boost like this because if they see the win percentage is high for the person there going to face they will quit right before tipoff. either way people can find ways to boost.

I'm really amazed that the NBA 2k series hasn't yet figured out how to handle rank. At the same time they made rank seem like the most important thing since ice water by the whole "Team 2k" joke.

That being said, they're on the right track by keeping ranked somewhat "random", although they need a better ELO implementation.

As for lobbies, I don't mind them for socializing or finding an opponent for UNRANKED GAMES ONLY.

lobbies will be back. people have been fighting from them for 8 months. peoples main concern is they want to be able to track their stats so why not bring back the 2k8 lobby system thats worked well from the beginning

why doesnt 2k just make a lobby for up to 50 players with identical rank. like evry1 thats ranked 10,000-10,500 in one lobby etc.. or maybe they could tweak my idea..u guys tell me wat u think

I barely started playing online this year so I don't really know how lobbies worked.

I would just like for the ranking system to be where you rank is baised on who you showed you could beat.

The player match lobbies can be for the people who would like to choose their oponent.

Lobbies should not be brought back for ranked play just so people can keep their stats. NBA 2k9 didn't even keep accurate stats anyways. So at least this year that was a non-issue.

If they can't separate stats for unranked lobby games then you should have to play ranked matchmaking if you want to see your stats. I don't know how you can keep stats for unranked games with all the different settings you can play under.

The lobby system did not work as well as matchmaking. They should keep them separated as they are now and improve on them both.
