2k needs a new rating system.

instead of just having players general rating at his natural position. there should be a rating at the position he plays. for example: rashard lewis is a natural sf n in the game his listed as a sf, however he plays pf. whats the purpose of knowing rashards lewis rating at sf when he plays at pf? now it doesnt matter if i put him at sf, pf or even pg his rating will be the same, however that is not accurate. he will not have the same impact at different positions.

the rating should change based on what position the player is playing n it should be available during the game.

for examaple:

lets say i want to get fancy n put rashad at pg, then his rating should change to show how much he will give him at pg. so if i see his pg rating is in low 70s at pg, ill probably not play him at position.

now lets say i want to play hedo at pg. hedo has good handles n is a good passer so maybe his pg rating is in low to mid 80s. in hedos case it might be worth tryin to play him at pg.

with the system 2k has right now theres no way we can see what each players gives us at different position. it only shows us the general rating.

This is genius, also if you have a player who doesn't play point ever, and has a bad point guard rating, the rest of your teams ratings should go down a bit. Like if James White is your point guard and he's controlling the floor, your team isn't going to play as well as if Aaron Brooks was.

i believe the ratings already do change if you put them at a different position. At least i remember in 2k8 when I changed Ben wallace from center to PF his overall rating did change. so i do believe it works for 2k9 too

Thats an idea that needs baby sitting. Thats not to say I don't like the idea. Its interesting. It should be secondary to just improving the gameplay so PG skills matter. The overall ballhandling and passing is too high so you can put almost anyone at PG. This needs to be lowered so a player like James White would have turnovers if you tried to make him into a playmaker. Even great ballhandlers should fumble the ball too. I like an idea underrated_pg16 had with a handles meter but I think it should be invisible and isolation should have a range of error so doing a crossover/combo would have the success/failure rate of a Tony Hawk move, so people that string together poorly timed moves would have a greater chance of losing their handle and a perfectly timed move would have a greater chance of breaking someones ankles. I would also like to see "bread and butter chemistry" so teams ratings would have a slight boost when you run the plays they run in real life.

He's talking about putting them in a different position, not actually editing and changing their position. For example, if you go to your rotations screen and put your C to start at PG, it still shows his C rating. It would make much more sense to show his PG rating.

I had a post saying the same thing

But again let's remember that overall ratings don't mean anything. Even if changing his position in the game online was the same as editing it offline they're still the same guy. I guess it would help as a deterrent for people who don't realize this, but just an overall ratings drop isn't enough. I think that practically all of your ratings should be effected. If Rashard Lewis is at the point his offensive and defensive awareness should decrease because he isn't used to playing that position. On top of that other things should decrease like his steal rating. He may be decent at stealing for a power forward but not a point guard.

Xboxing also has it right that there need to be penalties for this. I just played a guy that put MATT FREAKING BONNER in at the SF (I had the Grizzlies). Matt Bonner should have had all kinds of fouls trying to guard Rudy ***. On top of that it wasn't nearly as easy to blow by him as it should have been. Then on the other end of the floor *** didn't register one steal against him.

This stuff needs to be addressed
