OVECHKIN'S COVER: Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs by Crosby and the Penguins, but that Game 7 loss hasn't kept the MVP finalist from stardom.

Ovechkin, who led the NHL with 56 goals, will be featured as the cover athlete and spokesman for the video game NHL 2K10.

"It's a good time to be Ovie!" Ovechkin said in a statement released to The Associated Press on Thursday. "I can't wait to put some of my moves in there."

Top goal-scorer Alex Ovechkin will grace the cover of the NHL 2K10 video game, Take-Two Interactive Software will announce today. He's the first Washington Capitals player and first player born outside North America to make the U.S. cover of the series.

In celebration of the announcement, Ovechkin will be participating in a first-time ever public outdoor hockey motion capture session Tuesday night at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas from 8:30-11:30pm PT. Joining Ovechkin on the ice will be Vancouver Canucks center and 2009 Selke Trophy finalist, Ryan Kesler(notes), along with play-by-play commentator for the San Jose Sharks, Randy Hahn, who will act as host MC. The event is free and open to the public to watch, as synthetic ice will be laid down to create a special hockey rink and 2K Sports' game producers will put Ovechkin through a number of dynamic drills to capture his signature style data for NHL 2K10.

I really like the cover this year. Shows great emotion. I just hope the game itself and what went in to making it shows the same emotion.

Does anyone know if there will be a live feed of the mo-cap anywhere on the 2k website? With it being open to the public it be kind of cool if they broadcast it on the web as well. If not maybe record it and publish the video at a later time?

It will be awesome to see that in the game! I know some people (I'm looking at you Don Cherry) think it is over the top but not me. Ovi and his celebrations are what the sport, and hockey video games, need. As long as they're not degrading or offensive keep 'em coming.

Probably. I didn't play 2k9 but it sounds like it wasn't much worse than 09 and overall just a different game. I'll get '10 for PS3 and 2k10 for Xbox, or maybe vice versa.
