they announced the nba2k10 anniversary edition stuff today...

NBA 2K10: Anniversary Edition will include:
• NBA 2K10 video game
• 2K Sports’ NBA 2K10 game locker
• 3” Figurine of Kobe Bryant by McFarlane Toys
• 16” x 36” Kobe Bryant poster
• Commemorative NBA 2K 10th anniversary DVD
• Access to the Gold Room, the NBA 2K10 VIP online lobby (accessible only with Xbox LIVEŽ and PlayStationŽNetwork membership)
so if they are going to have a "gold" lobby for specific people... to me thats conformation that there will be normal lobby's for the rest of us.... the nba, nhl, and mlb games on the online side usually have more similarity's than differecnes....
I'm pretty confident in saying... all you lobby people can look forward to the return of lobby's

stoney, I'll go a little deeper by quoting this from a Jeff Thomas interview on gamespot:
JT: Yes, the Gold Room will be a place where Anniversary Edition owners and 2K Sports VIP's can come find a game away from the maddening crowds in the public lobbies. Exact plans have not been nailed down yet, but it would be fair to expect a certain amount of VIP events to be happening in the Gold Room once the game launches.

well there you go....
thank god.. im not a fan of the "lobby style play" but greatly prefer lobby's to the random ranked matches
hopefully they go all the way and we get the sim lobby back also

I think the Gold VIP Lobbies will also be crowded.....And will also be infected with record hunters and etc...
People make the setting, the setting doesn't make them.

I couldn't agree more, stoney. At least in the sim lobby you have a decent chance of playing a somewhat enjoyable game with like minded people. No guarantee, but at least there's a chance.

you should see what the nba servers are filled with... it makes the nhl servers look good.
i have yet to play a quality nba opponent... at least on the nhl side you have a chance

NBA servers must be pretty bad then. That makes me happy to be an NHL player.

For all their shortcomings, lobbies are necessary and a good place to find like-minded players for your leagues. Leaving lobbies out contributed to the disaster that was NHL2k9. It would be nice for 2K to create an over-65 for us old folks.

Lobbies aren't necessary. No other gaming genre requires them.

Maybe they aren't absolutely necessary but lobbies are popular and usefull to many gamers.
