Yeah, good point. This is also the only place on the internet anyone talks about 2K10 so it only shows how nobody's talking about it.

Better yet, let's keep referring to specific sports video games by their generic year markers. 10 wouldn't stand a chance if 2K10 could be released, even though 08 and 09 were better received than 2K8 and 2K9, those are two completely different sports! 2K knows how to make a great sports game and as they've shown with 2K6-2K9, they could make a solid title with 2K10 if given the chance.

Oh boy, that was fun.

Hockey isnt as popular as the NBA. If NFL2K was still made, it would have TONS more traffic then NBA2K does and NBA2K has insane ammounts at times.

Back in the NFL2K days that forum used to be going on. I remember this website was www.espnvideogames.com lol

The screen shot does look good and definitely makes us want more. In fact, I wonder why at least 3-4 couldn;t be posted. .... C'mon, 1 measily screen shot so far? I guess that's better than nothing. My only hope is that 2K definitely has something big cookin' and will drop the bomb on us and amaze us all.

As for the screen shot; this leaves me a question or 2 to ask. I don;t ever recall seeing in game play or a screen shot representiong gameplay from past games where a player was on his back, in an attempt to hit a puck. This screen reminds me of the Ovechkin goal a couple of years ago, scored as he was on his back. Is there something new in 2K10 that will allow players to attempt a swipe at a puck when down? It will be great to have new little features in the game like this AS LONG as they don't lead to money/glitch goals.

Maybe someone can provide some feedback. Looking forward to more screenies

What? You got some splaining to do Roadperson ... "10 wouldn't stand a chance if 2k10 could be released, even though 08 and 09 were better received than 2k8 and 2k9, those are two completely different sports." .... ????? What was so much fun? The confusion of your statements?

And yes, the graphics do look promising. I just hope every player in the game can't do the amazing things that Ovechkin (spelling ?) can do.

the thing im wondering about is that Ronnie specifically said this screen will showcase a new feature. But looking at it at first, it just looks like a new animation. But i wonder if it could be some sort of create a move feature, and this is the result?? cause that would be incredible. or it might be just like a past scenario play mode or something like that..

sure is a great idea. i would not envision it as being arcadey. the insane amount of dekeing with any player you can do in NHL09 i would call arcadey. As long as they have the skills, why not let them do whatever deke you can think of. This would be a cue for the defense to know to play the position, or if they see a deke, they would naturally step up and play the body on that player. they could make it pretty sweet.

How else would you pull off a spin-o-rama? The bumper and joystick combinations are a perfect way to execute dekes. It is basically the only option besides the terrible button combinations idea in NHL 2K8.

Dial a deke, create a deke, you name it are fine if it's limited to having the right attributes. As long as it's not like EA where any deke can be performed by any player, I see it as a great thing.

Any player in real life could try any deke, most won't be as sucessful as a star player obviously. I'm all for player seperation but do it with intuitive controls involving the skill stick itself. Dial a combo/dekes are so arcadey its not even funny. Hold this trigger, press a b a, flick stick. Oh hey is that Streetfighter IV you're talking about? No I wanted to take a flop shot in NHL2k10 with Ovechkin but I had to press X A B instead and instead the puck got passed and I changed lines at the same time.

I am a player of both titles, and I would say that EA series blows this one out of the water last year, and it looks like will this year too. The dekeing issue has been fixed, as lesser plyers will not be able to pull off crazy dekes anymore, but will still be able to perform the easier one's, but not everytime.

I just do not see 2k having the ability to keep up with EA in respect to realism in a hockey game. The EA AI has been revamped and the boardplay looks amazing. Not to mention the after the whistle scrums, as these too look nice. IDK what legnths 2k has to go to to become what Ea has become today, but they need to do something quickly, and have to show their fans something besides one screen shot, 2 months before the game has come out. EA already has multiple game play vids out there, look them up you'll find them. They have videos on IGN, producer vids too. 2k has to step up at some point to make this a rivalry, cause right now, there is none.

My eyes have been opened! I see the light now! I am now ready to be baptized into the EA cult!

Obviously I'm just giving you a hard time dude but in all seriousness, both games look to be very promising this year and for that we should all be glad.

BTW, 2k can keep up. They have in the past and are on the path to do doing it now. It wasn't so long ago people were lamenting that EA would never again put out a decent hockey game.

EA has had 1 superior hockey game since nhl2k on the dreamcast. now the EA nubs are going crazy because they dont know how real hockey is like and they think everything EA puts out is gold. Its really annoying. You should just be happy that it looks like we will have 2 strong hockey games this year, and stop whinning that 2k sucks and EA is great. Remember how terrible nhl2000-nhl2006 were?? yeah, thats what i thought.

I have to be honest here..I buy who ever makes best sports games.. Like NBA 2k games just straight up owns, But as for hockey sometimes i think ea does a pretty good job with it..2k8 > NHL 08..NHL 09 > 2k9
But i just hope this year NHL 2k10 just straight up owns NHL10..but i just gonna wait for the review on the game before buying and renting them before buying. beside that, i just hope 2k10 just win this year in hockey.

Rarely do I agree with reviews or let them pick games fore me, I'll read them just to see what people have to say... but they always seem bias. The only thing that decides games for me is Gameplay Videos/Pics and the features list.

Most reviewers are looking for "interesting angles" and they look for some feature they can appear to have some insight on. These guys look at the game; they don't PLAY the game. And you are completely accurate when you note that they all seem to have an agenda. Play the demo or rent the game; everything else is just somebody's opinion that you may not agree with.

Things wich impressed me:
- different blades and holders (with & without holes(5)) very nice detail
- different shin tapes
- graphic is very authentic (not too much reflections; not too less)
- if u stumble you r still able to take a shot (pass?)
- i hope more things will come after a gameplay review ;)

Things wich need to be improved (imo):
- the area between skate and shinpad (http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/14315177/nhl-2k10/images/nhl-2k10-20090722043257182.html?page=mediaFull)
The skates backside should NOT be flexible!
- the goalies proportion (http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/14315177/nhl-2k10/images/nhl-2k10-20090722043229823.html?page=mediaFull)
Osgood is too thin (is there a standard for: good gloalies have big equipment (bad goalies smaller equipment)?)
- the blocker is too high in connection to his stick

in summary i thing 2K has improved in many ways, NHL2K10 will be the bast hockey game they made so far. I hope they will release a few more screenshots and gameplay footages as soon as possible.

If this has been pointed out already please forgive the redundancy.

I've been looking at this screenshot on and off for what, a week now and something didn't seem right, like something was missing. Then it hit me, it looks like the top half of Robyn Regeher's stick is missing.

I know this is a still picture and it may just be the angle of the shot, but I swear it doesn't look like it's there.

sleepytercel

It could be angle or some animation clipping, which all hockey games have at points.

Photoshopped in a transparent line representing where the stick would presumably go. It's close, I'm leaning towards its just the angle.

You're probably right. It's just that when I noticed it my heart started racing thinking about the possibility of a broken stick, something that's long overdue in hockey video games. But with no evidence on the ice of a broken stick it's like you said probably a clipping issue. *sigh*

Nice work.

If that's the case, which it looks like it is, Regeher is holding the stick at an awfully awkward position. I would love to see the animation behind this pic.
