Sounds good. I like the Franchise Blog feature. I know there are quite a few people out there that like posting their franchise stories, so this should really help them with that.

i really liked the new online modes, the 2k share is great we will be able to download other people rosters in stead of waiting for 2k to update it, the franchise improvements sounds good too, i liked the graphics they seems much better than last year on 360, create a team is back!, fantasy draft is back!.
still need to see some gameplay videos but so far seems that 2k10 will be back on track, just hope the franchise freeze is fixed.

I sure hope there are more gameplay refinements than just those. Stick lifts and stumble shots are nice but there are many more important elements to hockey that should be added. What about flip dumps? Currently it is impossible to flip the puck high or rim it around the glass. I also hope that we have the ability to push the puck forward on a breakaway and do one-handed dekes. I hope pokechecking was fixed so we can actually control it. The trip dive needs to be gone as well. I guess the Lecavalier screenshot confirms that protect the puck is in. Hopefully they added more penalties such as high-sticking, charging, slashing, holding, and roughing. There needs to be less tripping calls. Hoping for the ability to hold sticks too...
I know most of this may seem like stealing from EA but they are both trying to make a simulation hockey video game. The gameplay elements from NHL 09 are crucuial to hockey and give the user the ability to do many things that real hockey players do. NHL 2K10 needs to have the key functions such as dumping and one-handed dekes in order to be considered a good game in my opinion. That is the minimum that needs to be done for me to qualify the game as decent.
This was only a small preview and a short features list but I would think if 2K added flip dumps and other such abilities they would mention it. I hope they added those things, but so far it does not appear that they have.

If the franchise mode is as good as advertised this should be the deepest franchise mode 2k has ever had, and that's saying something. Then you couple the above statement with the online franchise features and we may finally have the franchise modes we've been dreaming of. Fingers are crossed until September and we can get a look under the hood and kick the tires on this promising game (i.e. no franchise freezes!).

does this mean there is multiple player online franchise??

July 26th, 2009, 12:00 PM
Kind of. We haven't gotten confirmation that we can do online franchises like we can already do leagues. The only confirmed online franchise play is that you can invite a friend to play online in a game in your offline franchise.

Isn't that they way the world works, either love it or hate it? Read reviews for anything on Amazon, ITunes, you name. Every reveiw is either this is totally awesome, best ever or this sucks, don't buy it. Very rarely is there an in between.

I can't believe that noone has asked with all the talk of the improvements to franchise mode, if the franchise freeze issues are finally resolved. All the additions in the world aren't going to make much difference if you still need to live in fear of using a trade finder or the CPU not being able to manage its rosters properly result in your franchise freezing 2 seasons into it.

I'm right there with you spectral, these great improvements that are being forecast will all be a moot point if the freezing issue rears it's ugly head again.

I don't know if these questions can be answered right now but I hope so, seeing as how I don't think they're a matter of top secret relevance.
1. In franchise mode will the cpu generate a new schedule every season?
2. In franchise/ season mode will there be an All Star game?
3. Will hats be thrown on the ice for hat tricks?
Not earthshaking questions I know, but still would be nice to know if these issues have been addressed. Thanks in advance for any info.

I've been asking the same question for four years and not only has the unanswered answer proved to be "no" but nobody from 2K will even discuss or acknowledge it. So I'll ask again. Will we have the option of playing in on-line season mode with injuries "on" this year? If the answer is "no," again, then will somebody tell me why this wouldn't be possible as an option that would give 2K something EA doesn't have ...

July 27th, 2009, 07:57 AM
They have that in their season mode in 10

Are we talking about on-line season mode? If so, I think that is a great option. And it should make fantasy drafts much more interesting. It changes the value of players considerably. You can't just go for the 92s if there is a strong possibility that they won't be able to play a substantial part of the season.

Coming from a guy that's purchased every EA NHL game since 2003 (I also got 2k4 and 2k6) I can honestly say i'm considering getting the both of them. These improvements seem really cool and the depth to the franchise mode interests me.

Ok, I got one wish, online coop franchise...Sweet. Now please implement the icon switching option back into the game. Very rarely do I get the guy I want when I switch in 2k9. Very frustrating, looking forward to 2k10 though....just like I was for 2k2, 2k3, 2k5, 2k6, 2k7, 2k8 and well 2k9.....Now gimme my icon switch! Please

when they say co-op franchise i dont think its like the college football or madden online franchises is it? from what ive read it only means you can play one of your franchise games against someone online. if that is the case thats pretty dumb of them.

You can also play it coop. My buddy and I have been doing coop franchises since 2k2. However, poor us, we both got married and live more than a house away like when used to. By the time we get through a season now the next year is coming out. I think this new addition is great, maybe not going to be that used by everyone, but personally it is my favorite addition.

I just think the franchise is the usual one player local franchise. You can just invite people to play. There will be no more "Xbox Live" option, everything is "Xbox Live" this time around.
I also really hope they get the stick handling and toe drags done well this year.

It's a step in the right direction though. I'm just guessing here but I imagine that in order to successfully maintain a massive amount of online franchises, with all the bells and whistles of an offline franchise mode, a company would have to dedicate a substantial amount of resources to such an endeavor.
What that means is the big dogs will implement it first and nobody is bigger than the football games. Of the games 2k offers one would imagine basketball would have online franchises first followed by baseball then hockey. Heck, hockey hasn't even received the living roster feature yet. Hopefully, true online franchise modes won't be too far off for hockey games.

Just the way I am reading it and translating what they are saying. It won't be an "online franchise" it will be your normal run of the mill offline, local franchise. It will be the one saved to your hard drive, not their servers. We'll just have the option to invite players to play either with or against us.

at least we can use created teams in our offline franchises and they said the ai for signing fa's should be better. so it will still be cool. hockey does get no respect!!

I have played 2k9 more than any other game I have. It may be a little stiff but it plays a great game of hockey. I am a dump and chase guy and I can actually do it in the 2k series. When I was in XLSL I was dumpy mcdump and it was awesome grinding in the corners and being successful.

According to one of the developers who sometimes posts at 2KHockey.net, the Stick control is a thousand times more responsive.

I read that as well, and all I can say is, I hope so. Not that 2k9's control is bad (imo) but it can be better for sure, especially with controlling the puck on offense.
