I just wanted to let you guys know that IGN has a few videos up showcasing NHL 2K10.

To me, the game looks like a much-improved NHL 2K9. To me, that's exactly what the game needed to be.

I just wanted to add that a lot of people last year were whining about the fact that celebrations after a goal didn't look authentic. For instance, a player would often celebrate by himself, ignored by his team or would be joined by only one teammate. I'm glad to see that 2K addressed this.

I'll check this out when I get home. Thanks for posting.

I don't like that almost all the goals that were scored in those videos were one timers, especially the cross body one timer. Pass from the left wing to a right handed center, they can deflect that or snap it but very rarely do you EVER see a cross body one timer. Otherwise looks good.

I'll just add that IGN now has a written preview up as well:

I read that they had it on easy so goals would be scored for the sake of the video.

"NHL 2K10 feels as tight and well-rounded as any game in the series. I feel like it airs to the side of being an arcadey experience (I scored lots and lots of goals both against the AI and Tom Price) but that doesn't make it any less fun. 2K10 is going to have a tough time keeping up with what's in NHL 10, but the gameplay is fun and takes a slightly more casual approach for newbies to the sport."
I HATE THIS PARAGRAPH!!!!!!!!!!!

Fighting is something that the EA Sports brand of hockey has developed considerably for NHL 10, but NHL 2K10 is very similar to what we've seen in the past. You hit the back button to start a fight when the time is right and then you slam on the right and left triggers to launch punches with the appropriate hand.
Love the fact that you can choose when to fight again. I know it's just a peripheral so it's not a big deal but I am a little disappointed that they got rid of 2k9's fighting engine.

I liked 2k9's fighting. Just had to make the balance bars in an arc over the players head so I can watch faces get smashed, I was always too busy watching the bar at the bottom and seeing feet. But I thought that was a very good fighting engine although they always happened at the worst time. Psyched that the 2k8 option of "agreeing" to fight is back.

Thats not completely true. It might be changed or improved but i doubt its gone completely.

Just going by the fact that according to the article, when the time is right and then you slam on the right and left triggers to launch punches with the appropriate hand.
doesn't sound like 2k9 at all...

In the "Stumble Goal" video at the 37th second mark the pucks behind the net...
it looks to me like there's more room back there, the nets not eating up the puck.
if its not the camera angle and my eye's aren't deceiving me this is a major improvement!

That would be a very nice improvement for sure. "The nets not eating up the puck" is a perfect way to put what happens in 2k9. Movement behind the net is crucial for sim play.

very nice
i need this game NOW!
the intro to the red wings pens game is off the charts... also in that video, the guy shows close ups of the players faces... very realistic

He avoids looking at a player that looks really messed up. And I miss 2K8's intros where they focus on a player from each team. I always watched that in hopes that they'd focus on my player (almost never did).

Nice find. I like the stumble shot. There need to be less one timers. There are far too many and there too easy. Love the intros, but why do they skate with the lights on?

Still, that's not a very good way to showcase the game. I am also sorely disapointed that hitting from behind still stops a players forward momentum. That's F N retarded and I blame all you guys for complaining about stupid things instead things that matter. =) Overall the game shows some nice things, but retarded hitting physics kills it for me.

Oh yeah, and IGN is in EA's pocket by the way. 2K should have avoided letting them preview the game.

who isnt?
G4 is the same way... on xplay they constantly dig at any sport game they review (they prefer D and D) but when the time comes for a score, they always seem to do ea good
although they did have decent praise for the BIGS2

Probably because EA doesn't put out a competing title for baseball anymore.
