From the information you have seen so far, what do you think of NHL 2K10?

- Give a rating between 1-10/Reason?
- What is your favorite thing you saw/read from the trailers/gameplay videos/Developer Insight(s)
- Any other comments?

Here is mine:
- So far I would give NHL 2K10 a 7/I do not like the idea of contextual dekes in front of the net, etc.
- My favorite thing I saw/read would be from the Developer Insight where it says lower rated players will not be able to do dekes (this is a big key from NHL 2K9)
- One thing I did not like about the Developer Insight is how many times the word "contextual" was used

The best games use contextual controls. Having a button dedicated to scratching your nose makes no sense, so letting the game become aware of various scenarios to provide a more robust array of options to you at any given time is the best we'll get until we control games with our minds.

lower rated players couldnt do the high skilled dekes in 2k9. they would fall on their face tripping over themself if you tried one

I want to have a set of dekes and controls to do a specific deke. That way we know what move we are doing.

That was only if you tried to do two of them consecutively.

Looks like they didn't touch hitting, which equals a "boo-urns" from me.

7/10 The goalies and the amount of one timers need to be worked on.

Looks like they didn't touch hitting, which equals a "boo-urns" from me. Are you talking animation wise, ease of, or both? I think we won't know how hitting is until we play with sliders and such.

7/10 The goalies and the amount of one timers need to be worked on. Ok, the Goalie models need work definately, but the AI might be much better with the Sliders adjusted. Also the One timers are only user based so far. I don't think this means the AI will only attempt One timers like the IGN knob did. As far as the difficulty of them goes, who knows they very well may be a slider for this as well.

Now what I like about the game so far is the much improved player models and arenas. I'm also excited about the new sliders. So far and until I either play the game myself or see some more realistic gameplay vids that show off the stick handling and such, I would give the game a 7.5 out of 10.

That was probably on the default sliders and difficulty.

Neither, I'm talking physics. In video two of that preview, a player has a clearn lane into the zone and as he approaches the blue line he is hit from behind which stops him dead in his tracks. I'm tired of year after year getting a game that rewards people for having terrible defense. I'm tired of seeing breakaways and odd man rushes ruined because some tool can not only zip into me from behind, but also comeplete stop my forward momentum when doing it. I can't beleive that in the past 3 years I'm the only person here that has seen this as an issue that needs fixing. I'm so very vexxed!

I have to think if this is the case that the "Stumble Shot/Pass" would help in this type of check?

Hard to say, but the more I see and read about NHL 2K10, the more I'm exited about it.

NHL 2K9, was really desapointing, the graphics, the fact that I still haven't been able to finish one season in the franchise mode...

The game is not that bad, it's still pretty fun and plays well overall, I would give that game a 6 or 6,5/10.

NHL 2K10 graphics seems to be way better (ok, it's not really hard), so far the gameplay mechanics seems to be a major improvment (from what we can read in the "dev. insights" article at least).

So for me NHL 2K10 already start at least at 8/10, lets just hope it won't get back down once I've tried it.

Id say 8,5/10, because animations and graphics are much better than 2k9. I like 2k10 arenas and player models. I think that the 2k10 will be very good. Oh, and there is more sliders to customice the game.

That was only if you tried to do two of them consecutively.

Depends on the moves. Certain moves they'd either do it with less skill and not accurately at all or they'd fall on their face. Most of the time in 2K9 the line changes only let you have 2 lines with 3rd on once so you never really get to see that, espescially if you're one of the ones that play as Pittsburgh and Detroit all the time then you'd never see that difference hardly.

It was more noticeable in 2K8 i think, it would even out line the overall ratings required to do each move, a lot of them could be done by most players. Might be different this year.

2K10 will probably make more emphasis on this so that the moves are less likely to be done a tonne during 1 game more realism.

I'm really impressed with whats happening with 2K10 VC is doing great from what i've seen so far. As long as its not arcadey or at least gives an option to be full on sim without the arcade elements then i'll be really stuck.

Things i like;
Stick lift
Improved fighting
better pro stick
stumble shots
intros
player looks (not old like 2k9)
player contact(not like EA, this only happens when you hit)
Things i dont like;
Goalies, let in too many goals and are too small
Too many 1 timers
skating engine
passing engine
the hit animations(the player just lays there for a few seconds)
Graphics arent as good as NHL 10 maybe as good as 07 for PS2
high scores
goalies rarely get shutouts (mostly a 2k9 problem, hope its fixed)
shots uneven in single player(2k9 problem)
Very good though

Sliders will make it happen for Ya!Really, in 2k9, both goalies are at 100 and my goalie is worse. Say you have 30 shots and 5 goals and the CPU has 10 shots and 4 goals, not very realilistic. Please, can someone tell me how to make the score more realilistic and the shots? i am 80-0, no joke. Its far too easy. Im in the 4th difficulty too. Most of the time the score is 8-5, with me killing the shot total while the cpu has 14 or so shots.

Graphics arent as good as NHL 10 maybe as good as 07 for PS2 Exaggerating much? Maybe you should take a look back at some PS2 and XBOX graphics and then try say these are even close to the same level. I think people are too hung up on EAs graphics and tend to give 2K the shaft because of it. Here's a link:

What? First off there is no need for all the pics. Secondly my point was simply you saying the NHL2K10 was maybe comparable to NHL for PS2. Again, how do you figure? No the link is not broken. I can to it from my post or yours just fine so I'm not sure what the problem is.

I used to play alot of 08 and 09, but i get totally tired to EA:s NHL because those clichy goals. And when i play first time 2K9 i was like WOW, this feels like hockey and not flying like nhl 09 does. Only bad thing was graphics and animations in 2k9, but in 2k10 those looks very good to me. Nhl 10 looks like same rocket-skating/flying to me like 09 was. I like alot more 2k10 style.

NHL 09 has a ton of glitch goals. 2k doesnt have as many its just easier to score and Savoie06, take a chill pill.

At first read, I didn't like the idea of 'contextual dekes'
But the more I thought about it, i realized , that with the more responsiveness of the R-Stick, you can still make up your own, as in NHL09.

I think it will be as responsive as NHL 2K8, if what Anthony from2K said:

"Now, rolling the R-stick up or down on either the left or right side will give you more control over where the puck is, and the R-stick is very responsive. And if you roll the stick down from either side, the player will attempt to put the puck between his legs to bring it back to the front of his body."

I used to do this move in 2k8 all the time.

As long as the R-Stick is super responsive, then we shouldn't have a problem doing our own dekes in front of the net... and then you get the ADDED BONUS of some contextual dekes..

peace, y'all....

I just want to start by saying that I didn’t play 2k9 much but I played 2k8 a lot so I’m speaking more from the perspective of a 2k8 player.

Passing
I don’t know about this. I wanted more control of the velocity of the pass and the height etc etc however the more I think about it the more this unified passing control makes sense. Still I would like some way to pass to an area.

HANDLING THE PUCK

Lots of little things that make sense. At first it seemed too offensive but after the second read it all makes good sense.

Dumps
All Good to the ice

Dekes and 1on1
Solid controls. The Superstar system of 2k8 needed an overhaul

Defensive Stick
I kinda liked having a separate button to put the stick down but just like the saucer pass this makes more sense on second thought and it frees up another button .

Stick Grabbing
Great except no mention of updating the penalty system.

Stumble Shots
Sensible addition. I like how every stumble shot isn’t a pure highlight

AI
I cant wait to see how the defense uses the stick. I just hope the demo doesn't have hybrid arcade sliders so the defensive improvements can be felt.
