Some Info

Team: New York Islanders
Head Coach/GM: Kostas Theodosiou
Roster: Default

[Updates]

- In a not so surprising move by owner Charles Wang, Mike Milbury and Steve Stirling were relieved of duties. Kostas Theodsiou will fill both spots signing an accumlated 1 year contract worth 1 million dollars. Islanders management has been in shambles for as long as anyone can remember.

- The Isles have signed defenceman Oleg Tverdosky to a 3 year deal worth 4.3 million dollars. The deal can reach up to 9 million if Tverdosky reaches all of his incentives.

- The Islanders are set to start on the road against the Washington Capitals. Former captain Michael Peca was awarded with an "A" as Adrian Aucoin has emerged as the new leader of this team. Coach Theodosiou said a gamer like Peca won't cause any problem over a letter on the sweater and that the guys are no seperated by the letter. "All the letter does is give you the oppritunity to talk to the referees while penalites are being sorted out, no biggie.. We're 20 guys, and if we work together we can do some good things" said Peca.

(Washington DC) - The New York Islanders defeated the Washington Capitals by a final score of 5-4. The game was up and down as both teams looked good and bad at differnt times of the games. The key factor of this game, like many others was the penalty kill. Washington took a grand total of 16 penalties, and that's discluding the 3 fights. Many o'times they found themselves down 2 guys, and many o'times the Islanders made them pay, mainly Trent Hunter who tallied 2 goals, both on the PP. Also registering PP goals were Adrian Aucoin and Kenny Jonnson. Washinton was 1/3 on the PP with a goal from Jeff Halpren.

Rick DiPietro looked shaky throughout, but made the timely saves to earn the win, stopping a total of 19 shots. He will look to improve against the Sabres tomorrow night.

(Buffalo, NY) - Rick DiPietro had a bounce back game allowing only one goal on 17 shots, but none bigger then on an early 1st period breakaway with the score already 1-0. As the Isles were pressing on one of their 16 powerplays Oleg Kvasha flung a pass back to Adrian Aucoin for the one timer. Hitting what seemed to be a rough patch of ice, the puck popped over the stick of Aucoin and right to Miro Satan who was coming out of the box. Coming down the right side and gaining speed with each stride Satan came across the goal mount, DiPietro biting on first move commited completely, Satan then dragged his stick back in one fluid motion and flicked the puck up over the pads of DiPietro only to be blindly swatted at with the blocker and knocked back into play. A back checking Ninniima skated in the puck and nearly knocked it in before an alert DiPietro grabbed the quckliy moving puck at the line.

From there it was all Islanders. Weather it was shooting, checking, fighting, razzling, dazzling, they were doing it all excpet for finishing the puck. Finally on a PP in the 2nd period Oleg Kvasha buried a cross ice feed from Michael Peca to knot it at one. Moments later and yet another PP, Trent Hunter knotched another PP goal to his stats as his bit Noronen five hole from a blast from the circle. The scoring ended when Peca tallied his first of the season, a wrister that beat Noronen stick side.

"The boys came out a little exhausted, but that save from Ricjy really changed the tide for us" said Coach Theodosiou. The Isles will have the new 4 days off and head to Atlanta to finish their 3 game swing.

Upcoming Game: @ Atlanta Thrashers
