Now I wasn't the best NBA 2K4 player in the world, but I was the best out of everyone I know. On Superstar I was averaging about 80 points and only allowing 40-50 in Franchise mode with players worse than I'm playing with now. I have a few gripes about the new NBA 2K5. I like the realism, but along with the added realism and animations and movements I think that some things didn't transition over right. Right now I'm playing on All Star.
Problem #1: It seems like the computer can run into traffic and jack up any 2 they want with anyone and always make it. My PF is Lamar Odom and my C is Dwight Howard. Looking at their stats their not the best PF/C combination, but when you compare them to the guys I'm going up against it's amazing how this can happen. I'll take Kobe Bryant or Ricky Davis into the paint and try to do the same thing and I always miss no matter who's in the paint. It's possible it's my release, but I never had a problem on NBA 2K4.
Problem #2: Whenever a computer player shoots a jumper and I jump to get a hand in their face and make them miss, they rarely do. It doesn't seem to matter who's shooting, I've seen this happen from Mike Bibby to Stephen Jackson. And it's not that my players are short because I tend to pick taller guards. The shortest player on my team is Junior Harrington at 2nd string PG (Usually Kareem Rush comes off the bench to play PG though). Yet again, when I use like Kobe Bryant to do the same thing and they jump even if it's late, I miss.
These first two problems I think don't matter which player you use because the computer seems to function just fine with anyone to succeed, yet I can use players that are very talented on offense like Kobe Bryant and Ricky Davis and not be successful. I'm not ruling out the possibility that I may just suck at this game. And now the real defensive problems.
Problem #3: The computer's players always clog the paint and I don't get any breaks for dunks or layups. My starters are good ballhandlers so I don't worry too much about other players when I have iso, but I'm rarely that far away from another player on the perimeter because the other team is playing good team defense. Now my team on the other hand... My computer controlled players do exactly the opposite of the CPU's team. They leave the lane wide open and rarely roll off to help out on the open man. This doesn't seem to matter much skill level wish because I see players with the same amount of defensive awareness or less rolling off for the computer. Granted guys with more awareness roll off more and play D more effectively, but any kind of effectiveness would be better than my current D. I've tried man to man and my guys really stink at that. I've also tried halfcourt trap, 2-3 zone and 3-2 zone. My players have been better at halfcourt trap and 3-2 zone, but they're still bad on defense.
Problem #4: Alright this is my last problem. My players don't box out for rebounds, most of the rebounding depends on position and my guys don't try for any position, they just stand where ever they are when the ball is put up and wait. If the ball comes toward them, they will get it, if not oh well, the other team could always use some offensive boards. This is another problem that it seems like the computer is a lot more effective than my team reguardless of ratings. Of course guys with better rebounding abilities get much better position, but the guys with the same ability or less get better position than my team. I've tried taking my speed all the way down, but it doesn't seem to matter either way.
I'm not saying I hate the game. I love this game, but these things are really funking my experience. On Superstar difficulty in NBA 2K4 I went 53 - 3 and won the Finals. On All Star in NBA 2K5 I am currently 3 - 7. And all this losing is starting to affect my player ratings. Shaun Livingston and Dwight Howard are too young for me to allow them to sprial down. Does anyone have any ideas that can help me out?
Haha, I'm watching my Franchise team play against the real Suns and they're doing pretty good, winning 35 - 26 late in the third. Kobe has 23. Maybe I should force the ball to Kobe more for better success. He's averaging 15 PPG in my Franchise.
This is my line up:
PG - Shaun Livingston
SG - Kobe Bryant
SF - Ricky Davis
PF - Lamar Odom
C - Dwight Howard
PG - Junior Harrington
GF - Kareem Rush
SF - Demarr Johnson
F - Darius Miles
FC - Marcus Haislip
G - Reece Gaines
FC - Vin Baker
R - Brian Shaw
R - Travis Outlaw
R - Kelvin Cato
