I used to be a big EA hockey fan until I played NHL 2K3. I was looking forward to ESPN Hockey, with improved graphics and gameplay I thought it would be as much fun as 2K3. All I found was frustration. Here are some things that I would like to see in the 2K5 version.
1) One of the most frustrating items was to get 60-70 shots on goal and score 1 to 2 goals and have my goalie give up 4-5 goals on 30 shots, some being soft. I heard that it was supposed to be easier to score but it was way more difficult. Not that I am looking to score 5-6 goals a game but to have opposing goalies rack up 60+ saves a game is not right. Either fix the number of shots on goal or remove the goalies cape....
2) ZAMBONI----
3) Real-time scoreboard--Post the player number and penalty minutes, time and score. Also, scoreboard animations would be sweet. Out of town scoreboards on the scrolling animated boards along the facade.
4) More goalie mask paint schemes. Decent variety this year. Also include goalies true-to-life paint schemes (CuJo, Ed Belfour's Eagle, Patrick Lalime's Marvin the Martian)
5) Option to have jersey partially tucked in (ala Gretzky)
6) More classic uniforms (HARTFORD WHALERS GREENS)
7) Classic teams (Hartford, Colorado, Quebec, Winnipeg included)
8) Broken sticks
9) BETTER FIGHTING ENGINE PLEASE
10) Helmets get popped off after big hits
11) COLLEGE HOCKEY (BE THE FIRST)
12) Rivalries--Add something to rivalry match-ups
13) Pre-game lineups (2K3 was sweet)
14) Season match-up history mentioned in pregame analysis (head-to-head record; division match-up; conference match-up between two top teams)
15) Animated nets when puck goes in--A small item that adds to realism. The nets look horrible. They are made of the same fabric as the nets behind the goalposts in ESPN NFL Football. They look straight from the PS One.
16) Crowd, vendors walking in aisle ways.
17) Attendance effected by record.
18) Nets above plexi-glass behind nets--Isn't this madatory for all NHL arenas but yet didn't make it in a NHL-licensed game?
19) Customizeable tracks
20) More goal celebrations (Have customized celebrations as unlockables)
21) Any way to have the old "Rod Hockey" game as an unlockable?? You know the domed USA vs. USSR game that used to be in arcades. Or the old "Power Play" hockey with flat, plastic players? I used to love that game.
22) Stadiums to put a spotlight on goal scorers (Only those that currently do)
