I was so excited to unlock my favorite la kings 1993 team...only to be TOTALLY disappointed when NONE of the player names are on there.
Maybe it's a licensing issue since most of those players are retired by now, but come on...why even have that in the game?
This is a huge missed opportunity to create a truly unique feature in an otherwise terrific hockey game. Hockey fans are very interested in the history of the game and it seems the ESPN Hockey developement team showed a little interest in this, however, there's got to be a way to recreate those classic teams in detail.

please email me all if you agree and/or were as bummed as me the 1st tiome you "unlocked" a favorite old team of yours.

Also, every week or so there should be an updated roster on the server for those of us who want to keep our games as accurate as possible.

And finally, there needs to be more effort in the infantile online server system. I'm sure this will naturally improve with next years release.

Thanks though for creating a wonderful game and good luck with next years edition!

i bought this just for the classic teams
i would think they could kick a few dollars over to the NHL players pension fund or something and get the rightd to use their names.
this would have been great

they could do like they do with ESPN college hoops and let you change players name either off of a huge list of coincidentaly similar names which when chosen are pronounced by the comentators or simply type them out.

"As with any college sports game, the developers are prohibited from using the real names of amateur athletes in ESPN College Hoops. You have the option of having only the player numbers displayed (which do correspond to their real-life counterparts) or having the computer generate random fictional names for you. If you're so inclined, you can also input the names yourself, as the game includes extensive lists of first and last names, many of which are the same as the names of the missing players. While modifying Cal's vaunted freshman class, we were pleased to find the unusual given names and surnames of Leon Powe, Marquise Kately, and even Ayinde Ubaka on the huge lists. If you use names from the list, the PA announcer and play-by-play man will actually say the names while calling the game, which is a really nice touch. Aside from names, the player customization feature gives you many options for adjusting a player's appearance and/or accessories. Nope, and it is a big issue with the rights of players not playing anymore. It does suck and should be address in a manner where you have allthe names in the database for the public to select, not just the current names inthe database. Just is not cutting it.. It's a dam shame... Lets get this game going 2K make it even better...
