I cant seem to score much. I use the LA teams Lakers and Clippers...I hardly ever make a jump shot and I cant get past the defender. If I do a cross they steal it, if I do a hop step I lose the ball. If I keep passing it around I get it stolen or cant find an open man...my only luck has been posting up and that only works if I'm near the paint.

you guys must play a weird game lol, i rarely have trouble scoring..but for a little help...
1.for one, try and get a fast paced transition game going...
2.when trying your hop step and spin moves, make sure your pretty close the basket after the spin or hop because after you perform the move, you want to shoot the ball ASAP, or you will get ripped.
3. try calling iso plays with a player with great handles....(obvious but still, its a tip )
and i hope that helps you some.

I have never sucked at a NBA game so much...so far I hate this game, it is so hard to score! Every time I spin or try to juke I lose the ball, I pass it around I lose the ball, I hardly ever make a jump shot...HOW DO YOU SHOOT SO GOOD? I play people online that make 3's from half court this game is so unfair.
One thing I have always hated is the free throw system, it sucks and its the dumbest thing ever invented...
Defense is harder than Offense!! Online its not even funny, people shoot 3's with T-mac like 100 times in a row and if I try to double team it doesnt even work properly...if I use any type of play they score, I go man to man they score, if I double team them they score and even if I let the comp play they score its impossible.
Help??

For ESPN NBA 2K5, a NECESSITY, is playcalling. It's not like Live where after running around you'll find an open guy (not a bash to Live), you need a strategy in this game and you need to be smart. Don't hop-step when you have a good defender on you or the defender is close by. Don't take a jump-shot with a hand in your face. Make smart passes by passing the ball around the perimeter instead of a cross-court pass.

I once had the same problem on D while trying to block shots... you can't simply jump up to block their shot, you have to jump "into" them... you really gotta get all up in their grill w/ the pressure. As far as lane penetration goes, I usually start w/ the stepback move to create space between me and the defender, which in turn gives me room to crossover in front of him and then make a move to either side.. It then becomes a guessing game for him. And w/ jump shots, it is important for the shooter to be squarely facing the basket, and the better the look, the better the chance of the shot finding it's way in. You probably know this already, but release at the top of the jump so it looks like one smooth motion.
