What the hell happened to the Big Ten conference in the last three or four years. It used to be five or six teams in the conference that could legitimately contend for the championship every year. Now there is only about three teams that can barely make it to the tournament. Recruiting has gone down steadily and the better players are heading to other conferences. Not to mention that the Big Ten gets killed every year in the ACC/Big Ten challenge. Where U at Big Ten?

The Big Ten has somewhat dissapeared (although I think Illinois will be very good this year) because the teams in the conference play a very borring brand of basketball.
The Big East is known for being very physical (like Big Ten football), the Pac 10 has a lot of scoring and fast breaks and the ACC is just plain good basketball. The Big Ten plays almost like the Ivy League but has more talent. A good example of this is Wisconsin. The Badgers have a bunch of non-athletic white guys who are good passers and team players. I am affraid that kind of basketball is not going to win NCAA Championships, in today's game.

However, I do think that Illinois is a legit contender to get to the Final Four. Whether or not they make it will depend on ho they are playing in March.

Michigan State-National champions 2000/ Final Four 2001/Elite Eight 02&03
Indiana- National Runner-up 2002
Wisconsin- Final Four 2000/ Elite Eight 2002/ Sweet Sixteen 2004

I said the number of teams that could contend for a championship has decreased, I didn't say they couldn't win championships period.
And who told you that Wisconsin is just a bunch of non-athletic white guys. Tell that to the Dallas Mavericks who select Devin Harris as their first round draft choice. As a matter of fact, he beat out Jason Terry(all-star caliber player) for the starting job in Dallas. Devin Harris is the exact opposite of an unathletic white guy.
Also, The Big Ten has always been known as a physical conference, even now as they are struggling. They are way more physical than the Big East with the exception of last years UConn Huskies.[/quote]

Yeah Big Ten just doesn't play the style of bball needed to beat the ACC.

I would love to see my Hawks go all the way just once, but that won't happen. Illinois has the best shot this year, Michigan State is second.

Illinois might just be that breakthrough team this year. Also, look out for Michigan because I like Daniel Horton he has a smooth jumper.
