Okay...this isn't a guide on how to beat this tactic, but rather, some of my tips hopefully in exchange for some of your tips too. I can have a really rough time with this strategy and its by far one of the things that I hate to deal with the most.
A few things I've learned...
If your back is to the player you are trying to pass to out of the double team, its almost always a turnover.
If they have a big guy playing the passing lane, you are going to get it picked off.
This basically eliminates the open man bonus as they are stopped in the passing lane.
The tricks I've used to get around this...
- Sprint my pointguard around baseline and look for an open shot.
- Try to pass before the double team reaches me, but this typically leads toa turnover.
- I've experimented with some direct passing (Black button first) but I'm not sure if this is the answer.
Anyone out there a pro at getting past this tactic?
