In a suprising move, the Athletic Director of Tennessee announced yesterday that he will fill the head coaching void in the basketball program with Charles Franning, a veritable unknown.
Obviously, this is a decision that comes from somewhere out in left field, but maybe like a College Hoops version of Reggie Jackson, Franning will be able to hit one out of the park in guiding this young team, who have shown a precocious level of talent and enthusiasm, but have suffered from a chronic lack of leadership. If Franning can get the players singing in harmony from his song sheet, the talent is there for the Volunteers to be a competitive outfit in the Southeastern Conference and suprise the preseason favorites.
Although Franning, offers little in terms of big time college coaching experience, Volunteer fans will have to hope that he will go beyong the paper thin resume and get the program back on track. Here's to optimistically thinking that the man can measure up, or it will be his head that rolls if volunteer fans suffer through yet another disappointing season.

Dicky v had an interview with coach franning of the volunteers today and here is what the coach had to say.
Dicky v- So coach where exactyly did you coach last year?
Coach- I was a head coach at a high school in Louisiana.
Dicky v- How do you feel that you get the oppertunity to coach at high rated program like Tennessee your first year in college basketball?
Coach- I am very excited and i'm going to take advantage of this oppertunity and get some leadership on this team and i am gonna make a promise to all volunteer fans and everybody watching this season that you will see the volunteers in the final four.
Dicky v- Well that kinda tells us wat kind of coach we have on our hands here and we wish him good luck all season long. This is **** Vitale with espn back to you guys in the studio.

Coach Franning of the Tennessee Volunteers released what is expected to be his starting line up today.
Pg. Lucas Davis #32 He is a junior that can run this offense and is a leader.
Sg. Richie Shuma #2 He is a senior that we need to win and we have to have his scoring ability and he will be a first round draft pick this year.
Sf. B.j. Battles #22 He is a junior that will give us rebounding but is not that great of a shooter but will play an important role on this team.
Pf. Zach Sims #33 He is a junior that will give us double digit rebounds and close to ten points a night.
C. Nick Dearman #4 He is a great down low player on defense, offense, and is a great rebounder and he will play in the nba.

Rep. We asked Coach Franning wat he though about the teams he was gonna face this year and this is wat he had to say.
Coach- We face alot of good teams and ranked teams and that is better for us bcuz those wins will help us get to the tournament and get into the top 25 rankings

Today Coach Franning made his college coaching debut against Stanford.
Tennessee played pretty well in the first half even though they were down 33-29 at the half. They did not lead at all in the first half.
Shuma had 19 points at the half.
To win this game they would have to have somebody do something besides shuma.
And at the end Coach Franning came out with his first college win and Tennessee played a great game and hopes to continue their good play.
Shuma ended the game with 31 points and he showed why coach Franning said he would be a first round draft pick after the season.
Coach Franning said after the game that he thought they played really well, as they shot 60% and shot 47% from behind the arch.
He said they really need to improve on their free throw shooting where they were just 5-13.He said that he like how they played together coming out with 25 assists for the game. They got outrebounded 29-22 and that will hurt them against real good teams.

Tennessee was matched up against Texas in the 2nd round of the Maui invitational and this game would not turn out like the first game of the season.
We talked with coach before game and here is wat he had to say.
Rep- Coach Franning congratulations on ur first college win against Stanford.
Coach- Thanks but you should be congratulating the team for their performance.
Rep- You have a much tougher opponent tonight in Texas so wat is ur gamplan coming in to this game.
Coach- We just want to go out and play smart and move the ball around and make sure we are ready to get the rebounds on offense and defense.
Rep-Good luck coach and back to the studio.
With 1:45 to go in the first half Texas had got up 25-7 and Tennessee could not hit a shot not even a lay up.
They would be losing 30-10 at the half. The reason for that was they were shooting 10% and were 1-11 from downtown.
Shuma was out really the whole half in foul trouble.
In the second half they started hitting shots and they were just giving it to davis and shuma and they were raining threes. The first half put them back so far that they couldn't come back and wound up losing 64-51.
Shuma had 22 points and Davis had 20 points with 6 assists.
Dearman added 10 rebounds.
The main reason we lost that game was the first half bcuz when u can't hit a lay up then ur not gonna win said coach franning

yea what a heartbreaker when u lose and only shoot 10 percent in the half. never had it that low. my lowest was like 21 percent, not that much better. i like it so far, keep it up. and gl

Today Tennessee is playing Wofford and this should be a blowout on Tennessee's part.
They were on their way to a blowout winning 38-20 at the half and this is the kind of game they needed after that performance that they put up again Texas.
Halftime stats- Shuma 12pts, Davis 8 pts. 7 assists 2 steals and 1 reb, Battles 5 pts. 2 assist 2 steals and 1 reb, Dearman 5 pts. 2 assist 3 steals and 2 reb, Sims 4 pts. 1 steal 1 block and 2 reb.
They would not put up too many more stats bcuz the bench got to play most of the second half bcuz of the great lead they had. The bench didn't struggle and continued to put up numbers like the starters were and they came out with a 62-40 victory.
Shuma had 14pts 2 steals
Davis had 10 pts 10 assists 2 steals and 2 rebounds
Battles had 6 pts 2 assist 2 steals 1 block and 1 rebound
Sims had 6 pts 2 assist 2 steals 1 block and 1 rebound
Dearman had 11 pts 2 assist 4 steals and 5 rebounds
