Big Green Finally Names New Coach
In a surprise move today the Athletic Department announced the hiring of the Men's Basketball Coach. Most surprising of all was the fact that the new coach is a virtual unknown on the basketball scene. In a press release issued by the university it name John Lee as the coach. It was reported that Coach Lee was signed to a three year contract with monetary arraignments not disclosed. When we ran a check we could find no John Lee listed on a roster anywhere in the country.
We contacted Coach Lee who advised us he was a volunteer coach for a youth basketball program in California. Coach Lee openly admitted to not having a wealth of basketball knowledge but was quoted as saying "When the program finishes 3-27 and at the bottom of the Ivy League there are not a lot of coaches knocking on your door." Coach Lee stated that he would be holding a press conference later in the day and would detail his expectations for the the upcoming season.
As for this reporter I will continue to scratch my head and try and figure if the Dartmouth Athletic Department has lost all its marbles.

In a press conference today Coach Lee freely answered questions from reporters. Coach Lee started his press conference by stating that he has a group of decent ball players on his team. Coach Lee anounced the following as projected starting line-up:
#20 S. Callahan Sr SG/6-3/200
#23 L. Pattman So PG/6-2/180
#43 D. Gardner SR C/6-10-244
#40 C. Arnold Jr PF/6-9/215
#21 M. McLaren Sr SF/6-3/190
Coach Lee stated that the team lacks speed, but with proper conditioning feels that his team can compete in the Ivy League.
Reporter: Coach Lee it has been widley reported that you are an unknown in the world of basketball. How do you respond to that.
Coach: Sir, you are asking me the question and you know my name so I guess I am no longer an unknown.
Reporter: Coach, This squad had a dismal season in a relatively weak conference. How do you see yourselve coming out at the end of the season.
Coach: I would like to say that I will double this teams win output from last year. Of course when you only win three games that is not a big task. I feel with the players that I have I can compete on a competative level within the Ivy League.
Reporter: What do you forsee your record being at the end of the year.
Coach: I think we could finish either at .500 or a little above. We have brought in some promising freshman that can perform off the bench as we get into league play. I also plan on recruiting heavily in the local area. My phylosiphy is to try and keep local talent in a local market.
Reporter: One last question coach, You signed a three year contract do youforsee yourselve fullfilling that.
Coach: As for now yes I do. I am not going to say that one either I bomb here and get let go or I tear it up and they allow me to say. Let's face it I am from California and new Hampshire is a long way from home. If one thing leads to another and the right offer comes closer to home in the next couple of years. I am not going to lie to everyone and say that I plan on staying. To be honset it is just to early to say.
Well folks it sounds as if the new coach has big plans to get the Big Green moving again. It was also stated earlier today that Coach Lee was able to call on some contacts in California and get the team an invitation to the Coaches vs Cancer Tourney at U.C. Berkley.

[b]DARTMOUTH SHOCKS THE NATION
Big Green Defeats #11 Syracuse in Tourney
A night after a tight victory of Bucknell 49-42. The Big Green from Dartmouth took on the mighty Orangemen of Syracuse in game two of the Coaches vs. Cancer Tourney at the Hass Pavilion in Berkley California. Syracuse came into the game ranked eleventh in the nation and heavy favorites to wipe the floor clean with Dartmouth(2-0).
After the final buzzer Syracuse (1-1) looked dazed and confused at a stunning defeat at the hands of the Big Green 69-64. Coach Lee was estatic and could not control himself. Coach Lee was quoted as saying "This is by far the biggest victory in the modern history of Dartmouth Basketball" As he ran of the court yelling and jumpng to the locker room.
During the after game press conference Coach Lee was his typical open self.
Reporter: Coach that was a big win for you guys, how did you pull it off?
Coach. Well these guys really came together. After coming from behind last night and beating Bucnell it really gave us some confidence. Tonight we fell down early 13-2 adn I had to burn an early timeout. I made some quick adjustments and started double-teaming Stoudemire who was killing us. It slowed the tempo of the game down and Syracuse seemed to not be able to deal with that.
Reporter: How big was that last second three pointer by McLaren at the buzzer?
Coach: That was huge we were going in to the locker room at half up by three. Syracuse took a bad shot and we got the rebound left. Mikey let that shot go abou t 1/4 of the way down the court and it went in. You could feel the air come out of the Syracuse faithfull after that.
Reporter: What have you found that you need to improve on?
Coach: There are a lot of things. I am not happy with the production we have gotten from our bench. We have also been lazy on D on occasion and have allowed some spectacular highlight material. However I don't want to see highlights for the other team. We also need to work on the defensive boards we gave up entirely to many second chance shots tonight.
Coach: Gentelmen I hate to cut this short but I have a big game to plan for tomorrow when we play #12 Mississippi St in the semi's.
This team appears to be on the right track. Could they have caought some good teams early in the season that have over looked them and given them some confidence. Coach Boeheim from Syracuse stated " We clearly are the better team, my kids just were to cocky and got it handed to them. It is a good wake up call for my boys. I wish Dartmouth the best of luck this season."

Darthmouth losses in semi's
The Big Green (2-1) lost tonight in a heartbreak game to the #12 Mississippi St Bulldogs (3-0) 85-64. The Big Green were never really in this game and could never get closer then 10 points. Coach Lee appeared a little down but seemed to be in good spirits when he talked with reporters.
Reporter: Coach, How do you feel you team performed tonight.
Coach: There are several things that we need to work on as was eveident tonight. we gave up 20 points on second chance shots. We could not stop Radonivch. On the bright side we did have two players finish with ovwer twenty points and another in double figures.
It appears that this program is on the rise. Hopefully we can keep momentum moving.
