Jones and Thierro Gain Elgibility

Lexington, VA- Christmas came soon for the Keydets as Chris Champion announced he would become their New Head Coach. To make the day even better Maryland Sophmore Mike Jones who found himself buried on the depth chart , along with Freshman big man Almammy Thierro from Memphis joined the VMI due to 'special' loopholes.

"I'm from Memphis so I was able to watch Almmamy and he has some skills for a guy 6'10, 250. And of course whenever you can get a former McDonald's All- American you are doing well." The Keydets according to Coach Champion will run a 2-3 zone which will involve lots of trapping and on the ball pressure. On offense look for the Keydets to run the 'Flex' Offense. They will also run a semi slowed down offense, although they will look to often fastbreak.

Season/Home Opener goes well for Keydets

Lexington, VA- What does one expect from a team with 4 freshman, 5 sophmores, 3 juniors...oh and more Freshman who are redshirted? One thing you would not expect is wins. The Keydets despite there youth pulled out the win against Navy 62- 40. Maryland transfer Mike Jones led all scorers with 21 points on 10-15 shooting. "Mike played a good game out there, he did not force anything which was the main thing tonight," Coach Champion stated.

The VMI Keydets made it a point to stress that they wanted to force turnovers and live in the passing lanes, 18 steals on the night for the Keydets is a very nice stat to break down. If anyone wondered if all of these young guys would have any problems coexisting they were squashed after as a team the Keydets assisted on 19 baskets.

"A win is a win so we will take it how it goes. We will need another solid outing during our next game against Old Dominion."

Mike Jones.. WHO?...Mike Jones!

Everybody knows who Mike Jones is, not the rapper but the VMI starting SG who is averaging 17 points a game. "Yea I always here about Mike Jones, ive got some of his cd's. I wouldnt mind money like him though." Mike Jones so far this season has led his Virginia Military Institute (VMI) team to a 4-0 record. VMI has their first away game of the season coming up against New Orleans. The real surprise has to be C Shawn Taylor who is averaging 13.5 points and 10.2 rebounds. "The kid is putting up a double- double, we were doubting if he could take the pounding since he 6'10 and only 215. But the kid is so quick getting to the basket"
