The Nicholls State Colonels have hired a new coach Larry Smith. Smith said his goal is to finish with a winning record. Smith said that his roster and schedule will come soon. Smith said that this program hasnt had much luck but he will try to change that.[/b]

Colonels win on a freethrow

The Colonels defeated the bulldogs on a nailbiter is mississippi. The bulldogs lead as much as 18 points but that didnt stop Willie Depron and the Colonels. At the half the score was pretty high the score was 64-56 bulldogs. After 20 minutes played in the first half Smith talked to his guys at halftime to try to get things setteld down. The begining off the second half looked good for the bulldogs until a steal turned the gamearound followed by an alley-oop. The bulldogs got fould with 2 ticks left on the game clock. Gleeson missed his first but connected with his second free throw to win the game.

Coach Smith said that this game might be tough but coming off a big win against Mississippi state the colonels have the momentum rolling in to Aburn. Depron said look for another upset when we play Auburn because our team has confidence.

The Nicholls State Colonels (1-0) look forward to their meeting with the Aubrurn Tigers (2-0). Toney Douglas of the Tigers said that this should'nt even be a game. "We have to just play good defense and make our shots and free throws" Smith said. Colonels center Kieran Gleeson said that this should be a tough game, but if we play as well as we did against Mississippi State then we should win.

Colonels win a close one

The Tigers started out strong coming off with a 14-4 run. The colonels got into foul trouble early but then struck back with a 13-3 run. At the half the score was Nicholls State 35 Auburn Tigers 30. Larry Smiths Colonels were fired up at the half with a start of a 10-0 run. But the Tigers awnsered back with an 8-2 run. The tigers finally took the lead with 9 minutes left in regulation. The Tigers put up a tough fight but fell short 66-63 loss to the Colones.

We should be able to run with Michigan State, but i think the out come will be Michigan by 23 said Colones gaurd Shawn King. Larry Smith is lokking like a good coach but he will not be able to stand The Spartans reporters told Shawn King. Shawn King told the reporters to stop saying stuff about Smith because they dont know the man.

The Colonels and Willie Depron are heading into eastern lansing, Michigan. The Spartans are led by Chris Hill and Paul Davis this year. I expect this to be a tough game Blaszczynski said.

Coach Smith says "if we win this game over Michigan State then all the teams we play from here on out better be scared because we will be a tough team to beat".

Michigan State roll over Nicholls State


This was a blow out Michigan went 18-23 from the line and shot 57% from the field. 5-11 from the three point line. Michigan States Paul Davis scored 32 points and Chris Hill scored 27 and that was all the Colonels could handle losing a big one. The final of 95-62 win for the Spartans. Coach Smith said that the Spartans played great, didn't miss thier shots, and made their free throws. They were just the better team Depron replied.
