Looks like that rumor may come true. Looks like Jay Williams may be heading to the Bobcats.

i hope he goes to the Bobcats, that could be good for him, he could be star if the Bobs don't get any big name player, maybe Kobe should go to the Bobcats :)

And the Blue Devil cure continues...
Sad to hear about his accident, and now his release. I mean with Eddie Griffin, you could understand why he got released, but it's real unfortunate with Jay. Hopefully he can come back and gave a successful NBA career.

Doesn't this remind you of what happened to Bobby Hurley? That's the first thing I thought when it happened this summer
Even Grant Hill, you're right, Duke pros have been cursed......

Elton Brand's doin pretty good, I think...
And it's a sad story for Jay... but if you're gonna act a fool and race your motorcycle around town... expect to pay the consequences.
I don't mean to sound cynical... but it's true.
I really do hope he continues his career out somewhere else and does so successfully. If not... well he made a few mil outta that buyout...

and it also against NBA rules for players to ride motorcycles so he's lucky the Bulls management is nice and is paying him this year and then buying out his contract which even gives him more money, b/c they could have just chose to terminate it

I think I was wrong...
Due to the fact that he's injured because of a motorcycle accident, the Bulls were able to buyout some of his contract and pay him 7 million over the time until he's ready to play. He'll still be a Bull once he's back, but due to the fact that it was a motorcycle accident, his contract says that the Bulls can alter his contract because of that (or something like that...).

Doing community work would appear to be Williams' way of repaying the Bulls for their emotional and financial support, and it also would offer him a chance to remain visible in the league. Riding motorcycles violates the standard NBA contract, and the Bulls could have voided the remaining two years of Williams' deal, which are worth a combined $7.7 million. But the Bulls have paid him so far for this season, and the buyout would slightly increase the monetary package.
Even if Williams does regain his NBA skills, it's not certain he would play for the Bulls. ''That I don't know,'' Paxson said.
If it didn't work out with the Bulls, Williams would try to find a spot on another team, perhaps with the expansion Charlotte Bobcats. These are business decisions, which Paxson put aside after the accident to focus on Williams' health.

Yeah, but when you think of some of the teams that Duke has had and the success that the program has enjoyed over the years it amazes me that more of the guys that went there have never emerged as Superstar performers in the NBA
Bobby Hurley, Alaa Abdelnaby, Cherokee Parks, Roshown McLeod, Trajan Langdon, William Avery, Magette, Danny Ferry, Laettner, even Shane Battier are all or have been solid guys in the Pros but not superstars
Grant and Elton, that's it........

The problem there is that he's stuck with the Clips, heh. Though I guess they're doing decently these days, which is cool...he deserves it.

Maggette could become a star but i dunno, Battier is a role player, but a very good role player that could start on many teams

The Buyout has been finalized, and the amount is about $3 million.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1722485
By buying Williams out -- the settlement is believed to be worth more than $3 million -- the Bulls gain a roster spot and added flexibility with the salary cap. It also gives Williams options, including the possibility of re-signing with the Bulls if he returns to the NBA.

The man is a victim of a misfortune that was his own doing. To me it's in the same vein as feeling bad for a hockey player who loses an eye because he refuses to wear the proper protective equipment
Nobody put Jay Williams on a bike or told him to drive such like a maniac at gun point. From there he needs to take it like a man...........

It sounds mean but I don't feel sorry for this guy. He didn't have a license to ride a motorcycle and he clearly violated one of the conditions of his contract. The only reason the Bulls decided not to void his contract is due to all the poisoning that Pippen and Jordan did when it comes to the Bull's image with potential free agents. Jay Williams has not come across the mind of anybody in Chicago because Kirk Heinrich has played extremely well so far. Hell Jay can't even walk yet -- broken pelvis, broken leg, torn knee ligament.

I dunno about the rest of y'all... but it makes me mad to see people like Jay Williams with so much talent, just throw away everything by making stupid decisions...
I would have switched places with Jay at any point before his accident... he just showed so much promise, but then goes and does somethin dumb, and it all ends up in shambles...
It doesn't make me nearly as mad as the guys who smoke weed and do drugs and ruin their careers (Damon Stoudamire, Rasheed Wallace, JR Rider, almost Lamar Odom, Stanley Roberts)...
I mean, you're making millions a year, playing the world's greatest game for a living, you get notoriety world-wide... and you blow it by smokin Buddha or pullin a 2 Fast 2 Furious...
I dunno... that's just me...

Wild lifestyles come with wild jobs.
It's not like the NBA is full of stock brokers who go to business meetings.

Buyout Finalized, and made Official
A team insider said the Bulls are trying to reach an agreement with Williams to work for the organization in some other capacity until he can play again.
