Kansas wins 65-59
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- Playing without its standout inside player, No. 2 Kansas got 28 points from the frontline of C.J. Giles, Christian Moody and Sasha Kaun on Sunday in a 65-59 victory over No. 8 Kentucky.
Playing its first game of the season on an opponent's home court, Kansas (11-0) won for the fourth straight time without preseason All-America Wayne Simien, who is out following surgery on his left thumb. Included in that stretch are wins over two Top Ten teams, Georgia Tech and Kentucky (10-2).
The loss snapped Kentucky's six-game winning streak.
Giles, a freshman starting in place of Simien, went 5-of-5 from the field and finished with 10 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots. Moody, a junior walk-on, had 11 points and seven rebounds, while Kaun, who didn't play in Kansas' last game against Texas A&M, added seven points.
The win was only the Jayhawks' fourth in 23 meetings with Kentucky and their first in 11 tries against the Wildcats in Kentucky.

This is a trademark of Tubby Smith teams. His teams play great defense, and do poorly when handed the ball. I watched today's game against Kansas, and it was clear that the Wildcats (UK) have no clue as to what it means to move the ball around, and more importanlty move WITHOUT (setting screens, slashing, cutting along the baseline, kicking it out) the ball. Until Tubby can teach his kids how to set up plays and run them (or at least when he gets an offensive-minded assistant), UK will run into the same problems it runs into every year in the NCAA Tournament: inability to score.

Kansas lost head coach Roy Williams to North Carolina
Illinois' head coach Bill Self left to take over Kansas

Im from Kentucky and Tubby SMith has destroyed our program with his crap coaching and recruiting.
We use to be a national powerhouse a feared and respected team
now we are nothing!!!!!!!
Tubby dont want a player unless he will stay 4 years, rondo is talented but we just dont get big time recruits anymore.
we had one in Crawford but tubby wouldnt play him so he left.
Rick Pitino has already took what was a crappy Louisville program and they are on their way, 2 more years they will be dang near unstoppable.
Tubby is a good coach, i dont wanna knock him too bad cause we couldve done a lot worse
but im tired of us not getting the recognition we deserve anymore.
We lost to UAB last year which was a disgrace
we dont get any kind of shooters anymore, we have a bunch of 6-6 players who are athletic but cant shoot or do much of anything.

I'd say leading ur team to a #1 seed overall in the NCAA tourney is dang near good. Tubby Smith is perfect for Kentucky. Just cuz they don't win the NCAA tournament every year don't mean their bad
Dean Smith only won 2 NCAA tourneys, would you call him a bad coach?
No, because his teams were consistent, always fighting, always up their in the top of the polls.
He (Tubby Smith) recruited 3 McD's AA and you guys complain, give me a break.
Kansas is a talented team, UAB played the game of its life last year.
You would've beaten them 9 times out of 10
Calm down, your program will be ok

I have disagreed with you on many posts before. But here, I appreciate your contribution. People inside the program dont know how good we have it. UK fans are stupid. Simple as that. UK has won a national championship SEVEN times in 101 years of basketball.... SEVEN TIMES! Dont expect one every year guys. Tubby is a great coach, much better than Pitino. I am glad we have him.

are u insane?
Tubby cant hold rick pitino's *****
let me remind u that Tubby hasnt won anything with players he has recruited
Pitino took a louisville team that was horrible and in his 2nd and 3rd year beat UK and shouldve beat us this year.
Pitino built Kentucky from nothing after we got slapped with probation and we were ruined, what did Tubby do at georgia? did he build them into a national champion? No he didnt
Pitino built us back so dont ever diminish his contributions.
With Rick Pitino our bench 5 was just as good as the starting 5 now we dont have anyone that can make it happen in big games cause we no longer have anybody that can shoot the ball.
that UK pressing style was a nightmare that pitino ran at UK
had he not went to Boston its untelling how many more championships we would have.
look at this list
Pitino recruits who made it to the NBA
Jamal mashburn
Antoine Walker
Tony Delk
walter mccarty
Jamal maglore
derek anderson
ron mercer
Tubby
tayshaun prince
keith bogans
When Pitino coached Kentucky we blew people outta the gym, were constantly talked about and on sportscenter as an elite team
now we are just a good team
this is kentucky and good just dont cut it

Who cares who recruited them... he COACHED them. Mind you it is harder to coach a team that does not fit your playing style.
Pitino's press was a night mare? Yeah, so much so that Arizona threw over it every time down the floor for easy layups and he wouldnt change it. (You know kinda like that 150-95 loss to Kansas).
Tubby is 2-2 vs Pitino... even record... Tubby is the ONLY former assistant to beat Pitino.
96 Starting lineup
Pg- Epps
sg- Delk
sf- Anderson
pf- mccarty
c - pope (Atleast do homework before posting. Pope is in the NBA as well)
96 Bench
pg- no one comparable in talent(Turner didnt do much his frosh year)
sg- Sheppard (but didnt get many minutes)
sf-Ron Mercer
pf-antoine walker
c- no one comparable in talent(Nazr was a freshman project at that time)
Is this an example of the second team being as good as the first? We didnt have a backup, our 2 guard didnt play much, and Nazr is comparable to Alleyne his frosh season. We had Mercer and Walker coming off the bench.
You say Pitino is doing well at UofL? If starting out 16-1 or so most years and then finishing 22-8 is good... they can have him.
Tubby took a 6 man deep team last year and we went 27-5. Granted we lost in the second round but the point stays.
I am not diminishing Pitino and I appreciate what he did with his time at UK... however, I believe Tubby is the better coach and there is nothing you can say to change my answer.

Roy Williams has never won a national championship, he is a damn good caoch though.
I can't recall never not seeing Kentucky in the top 25. Kentucky is a very good team. They are hurt this year cuz they don't have much maturity. UNC is so good because we have only juniors and seniors on our starting lineup. Same with Kansas and Illinois. UK starts 2 freshman (I think Rondo and Morris start, don't they?) They also start a transfer, Azubuike, and Hayes (I think this is right unless Alleyne starts). Ya'll got hurt by graduation. Fitch was incredible. Hasn't Tubby won the SEC many times in a row? SEC is a good bball confernece.
You can't measure a coach by his National Championships.
Ask Eddie Sutton, Gene Keady, or Lou Hensen

u had allen edwards and i believe antoine walker started
97 if pitino had played anderson we wouldve won 2 straight.
dont forget the saul smith crap that tubby pulled
i wonder how many great players we couldve had, if Tubby didnt insist on his horrible son playin?
exactly tubby is 2-2 against pitino
but look how horrible louisville was when pitino got there?
look how fast he has turned them around?
tubby took a team that was already a national powerhouse and we have declined
say what u want to say
we are still a good team even a great team
but we arent elite anymore.
on scales of 1-10 UK was a 1 when pitino took it over left it at a 10
pitino took louisville over and they were probably a 3 now they are a 7 at least
UK were a 10 when tubby took em over now we have slipped to about a 7.5.
mark pope played briefly with the indiana pacers but he isnt in the league anymore so do your homework!
we are a one dimensional team now, we have no outside scorers. in the postseason if we play a certain style of team its over.
when did we lose to kansas 150-95? must have been before my time cause i dont remember it
and please dont say its when we were on probation, cause that dont count.

will u listen to yourself?
The past 2 years, 2 years!!! Tubby Smith has led Kentucky to th #1 overall seed in the NCAA tournament, the seed that belongs to the best team in the nation. 2 years!
and u r complaining bcuz your team is not playing like they usually do. You guys start 2 freshman, I can assure you, unless the freshman are LeBron James and Amare Stoudamire, you guys won't be the same you were last year. You also start a transfer, who has never played for Tubby. Look at last years Nat'l Champs, UConn. They started 1 senior (Taliek Brown) 3 Juniors (Emeka Okafor, Ben Gordon, Denham Brown) and 1 freshman (Charlie Villanueva). They had maturity. You guys will be ok, this year might be a down year but you'll still win the SEC and you'll still make a 4 or higher seed in the tournament

Pitino lost with his own players in '97 while tubby won with them in '98.
No, Walker didnt start in '96... McCarty(a senior) started over him.
150-95 was at Kansas in 1989.
Mark Pope was on Denver earlier this year... but was injured and I believe was then cut. Again, you are wrong.
we are a one dimensional team now, we have no outside scorers
We shot over 50% from 3pt range today
dont forget the saul smith [***]

Saul averaged 4 assists a game his senior year as well as a better than 2-1 TO ratio. What player were you watching?
Pitino built Kentucky from nothing after we got slapped with probation and we were ruined, what did Tubby do at georgia? did he build them into a national champion? No he didnt
Did Pitino build Boston or Providence into national champions either? NO! Sure Pitino did bring Providence(a team that has had basketball success before) to a final 4. Tubby brought TULSA and Georgia to numerous sweet 16s and also gave UGA their first back to back 20 win season... EVER.

Rick has took 2 different teams to the final four and give him a couple more years and louisville will be there.
If the lottery ball had fell like it shouldve, rick wouldve had Tim Duncan on the celtics and would still be coaching.
pope isnt in the nba right now, so i am right. this isnt guys who were, heck jeff sheppard had a 10 day contract a couple years ago with the hawks but that doesnt count.
pitino handed Tubby a great program
what program did tubby build up?
pitino rebuilt Kentucky, and has rebuilt louisville, did a great job at providence
tubby was good at tulsa, good at georgia he is good at kentucky but not great.
im not saying tubby isnt a great coach, he is amazing and i wouldnt trade him for anyone since we cant have pitino back.
if antoine came off the bench why did he go pro after his sophomore season? he wouldnt have if he wasnt a starter.

pitino handed Tubby a great program
what program did tubby build up?
The recruiting cuppard was bear. Pitino left Tubby with Magloire and that was it. Tubby had to buld the team from that respect.
Dont even start on Michael Bradley or any of the other UK transfer after tubby's arrival. Do you know why Bradley transferred? Because Pitino promised him that he would be at UK to coach him... he then promptly left for Boston.
tubby was good at tulsa, good at georgia he is good at kentucky but not great.
Do you consider Tulsa a basketball school? I believe leading a nothing school to multiple sweet 16s is quite an accomplishment.
Do you consider Georgia a basketball school? I believe giving a nothing basketball school its first back to back 20 win season is quite an accomplishment.

Ok, I did. From NBA.com about Walter McCarty
http://www.nba.com/playerfile/walter_mccarty/bio.html
"COLLEGE:
A key member of the 1996 NCAA champion Kentucky Wildcats, started 32 of 36 games in their 1995-96 championship season and compiled career-high averages of 11.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 24.7 minutes per game ... Ranked second on the team with 206 rebounds and 28 three-point field goals. "

i hate some of the media bias against Kentucky.
all u hear about is North Carolina, Wake Forest,Duke blah blah blah on the ACC
Wake Forest and Duke play and they have a 20 minute highlight and convo on it
Kentucky barely gets any press anymore and i hate that
we are getting ready to be a top 5 team
one of the only teams to consistently be in the top 10 for the last 10 years but yet we get very little national ink in the media
i hate the ACC and UK needs more props from Dukie Vitale and those other ESPN clowns
they must have a TV deal with the ACC or something which is why they always hype them over everyone else.

they are too young to be a national championship contender

UNC and Duke start nothing but Juniors and Seniors
same with Illinois (I think)

Yeah, considering the many times Rashad has gotten into fights on the floor and run up into the stands and punched ppl I can see the comparison. Ppl who say this are so fucing dumb
Rashad has never been suspended from any games, he just had a bad attitude his frosh year with Matt Doherty and instantly ppl criticize him in a bad sport and that he is selfish.
He is in the top 15 in the ACC in assists. He ain't selfish, JJ Redick is selfish.
Rashad complains about fouls, get over it, we all do, that duznt mean he has a bad attitude, you show me something he did that makes him like Ron Artest (even remotely) and I'll see about that.
